Former NBA Player Tyler Honeycutt Found Dead After Shootout with Police: Reports

Former NBA and UCLA basketball player Tyler Honeycutt was found dead on the scene Friday in Southern California after a shootout with police, members of his family tell ABC-7. He was 27.

According to Los Angeles Police Department, officers “assigned to Van Nuys Division responded to a radio call of a Man with a Gun in the area of Riverside Drive & Tyrone Avenue” at around 5 p.m. ET.

After arriving at the scene, an officer-involved shooting occurred as “they made contact” and were “communicating” with “the suspect, a male in his 20’s.”

“The suspect fired a shot out of the residence and officers returned fire,” the LAPD said.

Neither the LAPD nor the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Coroner would verify to PEOPLE that Honeycutt was the deceased suspect. The late athlete’s family, however, made the confirmation to ABC-7.

That network also reports that the shootout continued for several hours, during which the suspect barricaded himself in the residence.

The LAPD went on to announce that while no officers were injured, after the SWAT team entered the home, they found the man unresponsive and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigations from our Force Investigation Division are at scene conducting a thorough investigation and we will provide more details as they become available,” the LAPD added.

Honeycutt was drafted into the NBA in 2011 by the Sacramento Kings.

After two seasons he was traded in February to the Houston Rockets, before being released from the team the following month.

He went on to play overseas, most recently for the Russian team Khimki.

Retired Principal and Mom Lay Dead at Home for Days — and Police Say They May Have Known the Killer

California authorities continue to investigate the 2017 double slaying of a former elementary school principal and her mother, both of whom were found shot multiple times in the mother’s home, PEOPLE confirms.

Police discovered the bodies of Jennifer DuPras, 55, and her 88-year-old mom, Cynthia Houk, in Houk’s northwest Fresno home on Dec. 11. They were found about 4 p.m. after DuPras didn’t show up to lunch with former colleagues earlier that day. DuPras’ last contact with friends and family was on Dec. 9.

Investigators have since ruled out robbery as a motive and believe DuPras and Houk may have known their killer.

“We didn’t find any points of forced entry, no broken windows or smashed-down doors,” Tony Botti, with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, tells PEOPLE. “It is possible they could have maybe known this person and let them in the house.”

Adding to the mystery, a car was set on fire at Houk’s home prior to the shootings and the headquarters of a French non-profit where DuPras worked also burned down, authorities say.

The slayings have unnerved the residents of the usually quiet neighborhood, Botti says: “We don’t have a ton of calls over there and nothing like a homicide. Something like this really kind of rocked that neighborhood.”

“It’s terrible,” Botti says of the deaths. “That is why we really want to get closure for this family.”

After obtaining numerous snippets of neighborhood video, police now suspect Houk and DuPras — a former principal at Washington Elementary in nearby Kingsburg — were killed on Dec. 9, two days before their bodies were found.

The videos, released this week by the Fresno sheriff, show a white crew-cab Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck leaving Houk’s neighborhood.

The truck has alloy rims, a towing hitch, a toolbox and a decal sticker on the rear portion of the bed.

The footage is dated Dec. 9.

“We came across this one truck in different places,” Botti explains. “One was leaving the neighborhood and the others were on surface streets getting out of the neighborhood. … We know that nobody in that area lived there and owned that truck. Based upon it leaving the area where the home was, that gives us information that it didn’t fit and probably our suspect vehicle getting away.”

One thing the videos do not show is the truck’s driver or license plate.

“That is why we are trying to stir up some public’s help,” Botti says.

As to what the motive might be, Botti says, “A lot of the speculation around here points back to somebody close to them, either family or friend that had something personal going on.”

Botti says police have not yet identified any suspects. “We still continue to look at everybody,” he says. We don’t want to narrow our focus so much that we might miss something.”

At the time of the shootings, DuPras was going through a divorce, he says.

“We spoke to him shortly after the homicide and there is no evidence right now to point directly to him,” he says of DuPras’ estranged spouse, Alan DuPras, whom PEOPLE could not reach for comment.

According to local media, Jennifer DuPras retired from her education job in 2017, saying she was going to volunteer and travel as well as take care of her mother.

Since the slayings, detectives have served multiple search warrants at various locations, including at Alan’s home. They have also scoured through dozens of surveillance videos from the neighborhood.

“Based upon all the images and video we collected, we have been able to puzzle it together and look at this three- or four-mile course this vehicle appears to have taken during the timeframe in which the homicide happened,” Botti says. “Everything is going to lead us back to Dec. 9.”

Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to call 559-600-8400 or 559-498-STOP or go online.

Sorority Sister Dies When She Falls Through Party Bus Window, and Police Are Investigating

A 20-year-old college student died when she fell through an emergency window of a party bus Tuesday night, and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte fraternity chapter that rented the bus has been suspended, according to multiple reports.

Polly Miranda Rogers, 20, fell through the emergency window of a Charlotte Party Charter bus rented by the Kappa Sigma Fraternity’s Kappa-Omega Chapter, KMOV reports. She fell into the roadway and was hit by two cars, and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say passengers on the bus were drinking alcohol and that they are investigating. The charter bus company told local station WBTV they are not responsible for underage drinking.

Amid the investigation, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity suspended its Kappa-Omega Chapter at the college and released a statement saying it is cooperating with authorities.

“The Brothers of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Polly Rogers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Rogers family and to her loved ones,” the statement, obtained by WBTV, said. “We are in the process of conducting an investigation of the event on Tuesday evening. The Kappa Sigma Fraternity will fully cooperate with all investigations of the University and local authorities.”

The bus was heading to a bar in uptown Charlotte Tuesday night after leaving the college’s campus, according to WCNC.

Rogers’ cause of death has not been released, according to WBTV.

Rogers was a sorority sister of the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and in a statement released by the organization was described as “one of the friendliest people you would ever meet.”

“She could always be found in the common areas of the house greeting sisters after their day at classes and making sure their day was going well,” the statement posted on Facebook continues.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help pay for Rogers’ memorial.

PETA’s ‘Fashion Police’ Write Tickets for Fur-Clad Pedestrians as NYFW Wraps Up

FUR’S FIRST OFFENSE: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals tried to leave their own stamp on New York Fashion Week on Wednesday afternoon.
Looking to crack down on showgoers wearing animal skins, the animal rights group recruited two supporters to pose as “fashion police” writing tickets for unsuspecting passersby. A delayed noontime start wasn’t the only glitch. Most of the runway shows were finished throughout the city, never mind at the corner of West Houston and Washington Street where their patrol began. (A utility worker off to work did look very Calvin Klein-esque in a reflective jacket though.)
While handling some last-minute adjustments to her fellow officer-for-an-hour’s costume, Mary Ann Persad said her real job is in finance. She had taken the day off to support PETA. Todd Elkins, a model represented by Major and a bartender for catered events, had a more flexible schedule to work with. Practicing her lines for a PETA photographer, Persad said, “It’s New York Fashion Week and the fashion police are out. If you’re wearing any kind of animal garment — fur, wool, leather, down — you might get a ticket.”
Aside from a few why-are-you-here type questions, most of the passersby waved off the “tickets”

Police Pull Over Two Cars Packed Full of Almost 9,000 Lbs. of Stolen Oranges

Cops in Seville, Spain got exposed to a heavy dose of Vitamin C after pulling over two cars that were driving suspiciously close together.

The vehicles—which belonged to a family of five—were involved in a short chase with police, who eventually pulled them over and discovered they were packed to the brim with nearly 9,000 pounds of oranges, Europa Press reports.

The citrus fruit spilled out of the cars, which the authorities proceeded to collect in bags and pack up in their van.

According to Europa Press, the drivers’ excuse was that they were “coming from very far away and had been stopping and collecting oranges along the way.” Cops later discovered they were stolen from a shipment.

Police Capture Mom and Boyfriend Accused of Torturing and Killing Her 4-Year-Old Daughter

Unites States Marshals have captured a Michigan couple accused of torturing and murdering the woman’s young daughter in Georgia, PEOPLE confirms.

Candice Renea Diaz, 24, and her boyfriend, Brad Edward Fields, 28, were arrested near Lake Park, Georgia, Tuesday after Michigan police announced they were wanted in the death of Diaz’s 4-year-old daughter.

The child was found severely injured on New Year’s Day but died later in the hospital, according to the Sumpter Township Police Department. She had severe burns to her extremities and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

On Jan. 3, the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the child’s death a homicide, and the medical examiner allegedly found evidence of multiple traumatic injuries and signs of Battered Child Syndrome — meaning the girl had multiple injuries to her body that were sustained at different times.

Ohio Mom and Her Two Daughters Found Dead in Bed in Triple Homicide: Police Think They Were Targeted

A mother and her two adults daughters were found dead Sunday night in their North Royalton, Ohio, home in what police are calling a targeted attack, PEOPLE confirms.

The body of 45-year-old Suzanne Taylor was found in her bed beside the bodies of her daughters, 21-year-old Taylor Pifer and Kylie Pifer, 18, on Sunday night, North Royalton police tell PEOPLE.

The three bodies were under covers, almost tucked into bed, detective Dave Loeding tells PEOPLE.

Investigators believe the killings were specific — not random — but they do not have a suspect and they have not made an arrest, Loeding says, describing the case as “tragic.”

Police received a 911 call from Taylor’s boyfriend on Sunday night, Loeding says, claiming one of the girl’s boyfriends called him after finding their bodies.

Upon arrival, investigators noticed there appeared to be no signs of forced entry, Loeding says. Police suspect the daughters were killed elsewhere in the home before their bodies were moved to their mother’s bed.

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

According to Loeding, Taylor appeared to have died after sustaining a fatal knife wound while her daughters’ causes of death remain unknown. They did not appear to have “obvious signs of death,” but police believe both daughters were homicide victims.

Forensic evidence collected from the scene is currently being investigated, Loeding says. Autopsies are also being conducted.

“ feel confident that all the things we’re doing are going to turn into a positive outcome,” he says.

On Monday, the girl’s stepmother told local TV station WJW that the family was blindsided. “They were great kids,” she said. “Taylor and Kylie were great students.  Taylor was majoring in fashion design, while Kylie was involved in theater and was majoring in forensic science.”

Police Officer Dances with Children at Manchester Benefit Concert

As Ariana Grande took the stage in Manchester less than two weeks after a terrorist attack outside her concert killed 22 and injured over 100 people, fans in attendance bonded together.

A uniformed officer was taped skipping with children in a circle as others looked on during the concert.

“This is just amazing,” Elliot Wagland, Head of Pictures at the London Evening Standard, captioned the video on Twitter.

The mood at the concert was especially somber after a terrorist attack in London — which left seven dead and 48 injured after three men drove into a crowd and attacked with knives — occurred less than 24 hours ahead of the concert. Despite the attack and the severe threat level, Grande’s manager Scooter Braun and the Greater Manchester Police had stated that the show would go on as a message of resilience in the face of hatred.

Along with Grande, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That, Coldplay, Niall Horan, Robbie Williams, and Black Eyed Peas performed.

All proceeds from the concert, taking place at the Emirates Old Trafford stadium in the city, are going to the Red Cross’s Manchester Emergency Fund to help victims and families impacted by the attack. Those who were at the original gig were offered free tickets, and additional tickets sold out in just six minutes.

The show is expected to bring in around $ 2.6 million.

Ahead of the concert, Grande visited the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where many of he young fans are being treated.

Grande announced plans for the show in a special Twitter message just four days after the tragedy.

“Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before,” she wrote in the statement.

“I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend some time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families.”

The concert will aired live on Freeform at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. A one-hour highlight special will later air on ABC following the NBA Finals. BBC, the host broadcaster, is producing TV coverage.

Police Escort Drunk Man Home, Tuck Him In Bed And Take A Selfie

Reece Park, a man living in Tasmania, got so drunk on Sunday night that he couldn’t remember how he got home.

But a photo he found on his cell phone the next morning left a pretty interesting clue.

The photo, which Park posted to Facebook and was shared by Tasmanian Police, featured two cops taking a selfie with Park in the background, doing the “hang ten” gesture in bed.

Park’s caption reads:

“So was just looking through my phone and turns out these good ***** took some banger selfies after they took my drunk ass home! Bloody legends.”

Constable Jeremy Blyth told Yahoo 7 News in Australia that he and fellow officer Natalie Siggins found Park in the back of a taxi after the company called the police for assistance. Blyth said that Park “didn’t know where he lived, he wasn’t saying much.”

Eventually the officers figured out where he lived and took him home.

“Because he was a bit worse for wear, our officers took the opportunity to record the moment with a selfie in the likely event he could not remember how he got home,” Senior Sergeant Craig Fox said in the Tasmanian Police’s Facebook post.

Blyth and Siggins also waited for a friend to come by Park’s house before they left to keep an eye on him.

Siggins said taxi companies occasionally call the police to assist with riders who are too inebriated to get home, but it’s part of the job.

“People’s friends put them in taxis thinking they’ll get home safe,” she told Yahoo. “But unfortunately they end up like Reece, asleep in the backseat, not able to get themselves all the way home.”

Fox advised that people make a plan before they drink.

“Then there’s no risk to you, your family, friends or others on the road,” he said on Facebook.

As for Park, the experience hasn’t exactly deterred him from getting completely tanked in the future.

When asked by Yahoo if this has sworn him off booze, he responded with, “Don’t know. I’ll soon find out, I reckon.”

Police Brutality Set Off The L.A. Riots 25 Years Ago. We’ve Learned Nothing Since.

Go watch the video of Rodney King being beaten. Really watch it. You’ll see eight brutal minutes of an unarmed black man being kicked, clubbed, and tasered within an inch of his life by LAPD officers ― men sworn to protect and serve.

When the clandestinely shot video of King’s beating came out in 1991, it sent shockwaves throughout the entire country, sparking a conversation about racial bias and police brutality. The four police officers charged in the King beating were acquitted, and the city saw one of the most destructive riots in American history.

April 29th will mark the 25th anniversary of the LA riots, 25 years since a mirror was held up to the face of America and revealed a grotesque reflection. Anniversaries are about looking back. They are about legacy. But what is the legacy of the three days of carnage that ensued back then, sending much of Los Angeles into a deluge of violence, looting, and burning buildings?

In their new National Geographic documentary “LA92,” filmmakers T.J. Martin and Daniel Lindsay go in-depth to explore the legacy of the riots, forgoing the usual talking heads and experts and using only raw, unedited archival footage, leaving it up to the audience to make up their minds about the meaning of the riots.

There’s a moment in the documentary, one day into the deluge, where a Korean shop owner defiantly defends her store from a band of black and Latino looters.

“This is America!” She screams at the crowd. “This is America!”

The moment, is the film, and the riots themselves, in microcosm. In other words ― the riots were complicated, and messy. They weren’t just black-and-white. The underlying tensions weren’t just about the beating, but the racist justice system that allowed the cops to go free and, just a year earlier, Korean shop owner Soon Ja Du to go free in the senseless killing of Latasha Harlins

I spoke with T.J. Martin and Dan Lindsay about what they learned about the riots in retelling this story on film ― and what America has yet to learn.

HuffPost: The film opens and closes with black-and-white footage from the Watts Riots on 1965, which juxtapose in such a stunning way with the LA Riots which took place decades later. There’s this sense of history repeating itself. Why do you think this keeps happening ― the beatings and killings of unarmed black folk, and the subsequent unrest?

Dan Lindsay: Our country has never reconciled the inherent contradictions of its founding. The people that wrote the document that said all men are created equal owned human beings. That’s just mind-blowing. As a country, we’ve never been able to reconcile that. And as long as we continue to have marginalized communities that don’t have a voice, as long as that happens, you shouldn’t be surprised if uprisings or unrest happen. It’s happened throughout all human history, throughout all of the world, from the same circumstances.

HP: The film is derived entirely from archival footage of news broadcasts, court videos, aerial footage and so on. What was the reasoning behind that, and what was the process like to organize all those hours of footage into a cohesive narrative?

T.J. Martin: We wanted to take a unique approach that would maybe inspire a unique perspective, and ultimately create a new way of thinking about these events. We didn’t want the the filter of an expert telling you what you think. It was less about deconstructing the anatomy of the events. It became much more immersive as an experience.

DL: We wanted to challenge the audience to begin thinking about these things, to have conversations, to ask the question: What do we need to do to make it so this never happens again? Because clearly we tend to have these cycles of things. We deal with it for a little bit, then everybody goes back to their lives.

HP: There are a lot of interesting moments with the media in this film, little vignettes where we see anchors right before going live, adjusting their hair and doing their makeup before launching into somber broadcasts. What do you think the role of the media was, and continues to be, in conversations about police brutality?

DL: That was a really intentional device because we had concerns that, not all of this, but a lot of this, was created by the media. The media was complicit in creating the events that led to this. We wanted to find a way to imply the idea and that was showing the getting ready. It indicates the facade of the media. It’s presentation. It’s business as usual. To us, that’s representative of America. We have this facade, this image we sell, that we don’t necessarily live up to.

HP: It’s been 25 years since the riots, and while we haven’t had anything as destructive as that happen again ― there’s a sense that it’s only a matter of time. What, to you, is the legacy of the riots?

T.J.:  I think what came out of it was for a short moment, an engaged conversation on race and class. But that same short engaged moment of conversation happened after 65 Watts. That same short engaged moment of conversation happened during the race riots in Detroit. These spurts operate as fads. It’s a symptom and also an extension of the problem. I don’t know about legacy. To me I just think of [the L.A. riots] as one chapter of an ongoing story.

HP: What’s stopping us from bringing this story to a close then?

T.J.: We haven’t figured out the tools of how to talk about this thing where it becomes a constructive conversation. The moment you bring up race and class, it becomes a debate. But it’s not about a debate. There are marginalized communities. This is real.

DL: But we’re trying to activate the audience’s own realization of these things, right? Near the end of the film, you see Bill Clinton watching Bush give his address after the riots, and you realize the riots were at least part of what made Clinton president. And then you think of today, when you hear phrases like “law and order,” the [fear-mongering], and then Trump becomes president. It’s our collective society’s reaction to things, these shifts.

HP: There are moments in this film that are difficult to watch ― the looting of businesses, especially Korean-American businesses. The beating of the white truck driver Reginald Denny. When we talk about riots and unrest, there’s always criticism about rioters destroying their own communities, or resorting to violence instead of peace. What would be your reaction to someone who saw this film and felt the black and Latino rioters weren’t justified in their acts?

T.J.: If anyone were to come with that type of argument, they are neglecting the visceral violence that happened to Rodney King. What we try to do, at the very least, is set context. King just happened to have a video. These atrocities, these abuses of power have been happening since the birth of the country. So by isolating members of a community (who were rightfully so angry) and dismissing 400 years of horrible treatment of one specific community…. that alone is an unfair analysis of the situation, period. We are not watching the same movie.

Kurt Russell And Goldie Hawn’s First Date Was Interrupted By Police

As much as we may hate the term “relationship goals,” there’s really no better way to describe Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. The couple, who’ve been together for over 30 years, have defied the odds of celebrity romances.

During a Friday appearance on Harry Connick Jr.’s talk show “Harry,” Russell dished on the night it all began. Russell and Hawn were filming the 1984 World War II movie “Swing Shift.” Sexy times were had and police were involved.

“I said, ‘You know, if we have to dance in this, you’re a professional dancer,’” Russell recalled. “‘You know how to dance, but I just need to figure something out.’ She said, ‘We should go somewhere and dance to that kind of swing music.’ I said, ‘I’ll find that.’ The Playboy Club was the only place that had that. So we went to the Playboy Club, and I just immediately was having a great time with this girl, Goldie.”

When the two left the club, they agreed their night was far from over. They wound up back at Hawn’s house, which was being renovated at the time. That’s when things started to get interesting.

“We eventually found our way upstairs, looking around at imaginary furniture, and we were in the imaginary bedroom, now, and we are realistically having sex when the police walked in, because we had to break into the place to get in,” “The Hateful Eight” star said.

Russell couldn’t help but laugh about the incident as he retold the story, noting it was “bizarre and weird.” “We were being told to go get a hotel room, which we did,” he said.

And the rest is history.

Why ‘Shots Fired’ Made An Unarmed White Student The Victim Of A Police Shooting

Filmmakers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood are aiming to uncover the complexities of America’s criminal justice system with their new Fox drama series “Shots Fired.”

Starring Sanaa Lathan, Tristan “Mack” Wilds, Stephan James, Helen Hunt and Aisha Hinds, the 10-episode series chronicles the aftermath of two racially charged shootings in a small North Carolina town following African American police officer Joshua Beck (played by Wilds) killing an unarmed white college student.

The decision by the husband-wife team to reverse the narrative of police brutality came during the early stages of the show’s development, according to Prince-Bythewood.

The “Love & Basketball” director tells The Huffington Post that the story was inspired by George Zimmerman’s much-publicized 2013 trial in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, in which the former neighborhood watch coordinator received over $ 200,000 from supporters to help fund his legal defense.

“What struck us after the Zimmerman trial was how they kept reporting on how much money was being donated to George Zimmerman,” she said. “And it was a shock that so much of the population was empathizing with him and not the 17-year-old boy who was killed for absolutely no reason. And it shocked us, but not everyone was seeing that. And the fact that when these shootings happen, it seems like the first thing that happens is that people start to demonize the victim and make excuses for what happened.”

“So we felt if we flipped it, it would give people who normally don’t deal with this an opportunity to feel what it’s like to be in our shoes, so to speak,” she continued. “And hopefully empathize and understand so that when it happens you’re not desensitized anymore.”

The show’s recurring themes of race and social justice also delve into the related economic effects of federal private prisons and America’s school-to-prison pipeline.

Through the years, privately owned prison facilities have faced scrutiny over safety and security, especially in comparison to federally run prisons.

Various reports have concluded that students of color face harsher disciplinary action and are more likely to be pushed out of school than their white counterparts ― all of which contributes to America’s increasing mass incarceration rates and the disproportionate number of black and Latino prisoners.

“We don’t think people understand and know about the pipeline and what private prisons do and how they make money and how corrupt it is and how it absolutely affects policing,” Prince-Bythewood said. “That was one of the things that we wanted to do with the show is be able to open it up and show this issue from every seat in the house, not just the victims and the families and the police, but how it rises up into the politics and how laws are made and why they’re made to benefit people in power.”

“All of this affects the people on the ground. The private prison complex is a horrifying thing,” she added. “And also what happens in our schools and the equity in schools can absolutely affect a child’s chance of living life.”

In addition to her hope for the show’s characters to spark more activism in America, the 47-year-old filmmaker also wants politicians and law enforcement officials to take note of the show’s underlying messages to help create a more unified America.

“We hope that we give a blueprint,” she said. “Our show isn’t just ten hours of venting, but hopefully at the end of the ten hours we’re offering some thoughts on how things can change.”

“Shots Fired” airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox.

People Are Loving This Police Department’s Unofficial K-9 Pug

A pug pictured with his police officer human dad is stealing a lot of hearts across the internet.

“Introducing the Rochester Police Department’s new K-9: Hercules,” reads a Tuesday Facebook post from the New Hampshire department.

They note that Hercules has been “trained on how to aggressively hunt down any loose treats” and “knows how to sleep all day no matter what the weather may be.”

But he’s not really an employee of the force, Officer Geoff Moore, pictured in the photo, clarified to The Huffington Post.

“Hercules is my personal pug,” Moore said in a Facebook message. “I just thought it would be a fun post for everyone.”

Public information officer Jason Thomas said in an email that they snapped the shot after Moore’s fiancee stopped by the department with Hercules in tow. Thomas added that the photo has “truly gone viral” and had reached more than 10 million people as of Thursday.

Honestly, it’s a little disappointing to learn that Hercules isn’t a real K-9, as we were really looking forward to hearing more about his crime-fighting exploits.

That said, maybe hunting down treats is exactly the right amount of adventure for Hercules.

Police Officer Stops Speeding Student, Then Fixes His Tie

Now that’s a clothes call.

When a police officer in Menomonie, Wisconsin, pulled over a speeding driver Nov. 30, he was considering giving a ticket, not a lesson in the sartorial arts.

Officer Martin Folczyk pulled the car over and discovered University of Wisconsin-Stout student Trevor Keeney, who was very agitated.

“I have to get a tie tied,” Keeney said, according to KMSP TV. “I have a presentation and I thought my buddy was home but he’s not, and I’m running behind.”

Officer Folczyk then asked for the necktie and immediately started multitasking, putting the tie around his own neck, and tying it, while making sure Keeney’s license and insurance checked out.

Folczyk’s nice gesture wasn’t without slight complications. When he handed the tie back, it was too short for Keeney.

Folczyk took the tie back from Keeney and re-tied it. He then gave it back and let the student go with just a warning.

Properly dressed, Keeney went on to get 92 percent on his presentation for an outside sales class, according to ABC News.

Of course, Dave Chappelle might have a few thoughts about this interaction.

‘South Park’ To Take On Police Violence In New Episode

The national debate on police violence has spread from Ferguson and Baltimore all the way to the small town of South Park, Colorado.

On this Wednesday’s episode of long-running animated series “South Park,” the town’s residents decide to abolish the police because they’re fed up with people who “impose their authority on the underprivileged.” Given the Comedy Central show’s history of iconoclasm, and its focus in Season 19 on political correctness, we’re gonna go ahead and guess that it doesn’t end well.

Here’s a clip from the episode, in which one of the town’s police officers defends his kind, saying that “not all cops are racist, trigger-happy assholes.”

“South Park,” which was created by college friends Trey Stone and Matt Parker, has a long and storied history of tackling controversial topics. Many of its most inflammatory episodes have focused on religious figures like Muhammad to the Virgin Mary.

‘Fashion Police’ Returns In August With Melissa Rivers As Co-Host

After the death of Joan Rivers, losing two co-hosts and a whole lot of drama, “Fashion Police” will return this August with Melissa Rivers, reports Variety.

E! announced that veteran co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski will also return to the show, kicking off the first episode with coverage of the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 31. The new season will feature the trio of co-hosts, as well as two other rotating celebrity guests in each episode.

Back in March, E! announced the show was going on hiatus after co-hosts Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin left the series. The former co-hosts exited amid drama surrounding Rancic’s offensive remarks about actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks during a post-Oscars episode of “Fashion Police.”

On the show, Rancic said Zendaya’s dreadlocks made her look as if she smelled “like patchouli oil” or “weed,” though it was later confirmed that the co-host’s remarks were edited, and that she was making a reference to “hippie culture.”

Melissa Rivers Is Set to Host Fashion Police

After turbulent times at Fashion Police following the September passing of Joan Rivers, it looks like the seas are finally settling. Joan’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, is set to join the show and will be taping her first episodes at the end of August.

melissa-and-joan-rivers

“Melissa’s going on. The idea actually came from her, [and] the bosses like it,” a source told the New York Daily News. “It’ll be a tribute to her mom, and Melissa’s the one who understands how it’s done. She can pull it off.”

Melissa is set to record six episodes, with no official word on when the shows will start airing. In lieu of permanent cohosts, different celebrities will sit alongside Rivers on each episode. The set is also reportedly going to get a redesign.

After a widely publicized hunt for an original replacement (including rumors swirling around The Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Nene Leakes), Kathy Griffin was announced as the official heir. Flash forward three months and Griffin turned in her resignation letter, saying, “I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance toward difference… I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show, and now it’s time to move on.” The month prior, Kelly Osbourne left, reportedly due to Giuliana Rancic’s red carpet hair gaffe with Zendaya.

This Striking Image Flips The Narrative Around Black Women And Police Brutality On Its Head

When 29-year-old artist Markus Prime watched footage of a McKinney, Texas police officer aggressively manhandling a 15-year-old black girl, he was overcome with emotions.

Markus said he felt a rush of anger followed by seeping frustration as he watched the viral video of patrol supervisor Cpl. Eric Casebolt’s blatantly disrespect a teenage girl, whose name is Dajerria Becton. He said watching footage of Casebolt forcing Benton face-down to the ground and sitting on top of her as she cried out for her mother triggered an immediate need to respond. He decided to channel these emotions, use them as fuel and express them through art.

“It struck a nerve,” Markus told The Huffington Post. “This particular incident spoke to me because these things happen every day but this time it happened to a child.

Markus said the officer’s actions were inexcusable, and the narrative around police officers using excessive force against black individuals, specifically black women, is an all-too-common and overlooked concern.

Markus wanted to show what it would look like if a black woman were awarded the kind of respect white men receive.

mckinney artwork

The image shows a white police officer lying face-down on the ground with his hands tied behind him. Meanwhile, a black girl wearing an orange swimsuit stands over him with one leg placed on the officer’s back and her hands triumphantly on her hips.

“The video bothered me and I didn’t want [my response] to be anything complicated,” he said. “I just wanted to make my point in the most simplistic but powerful way possible.”

Though the figures pictured draw parallels to Becton and Casebolt, they are faceless in Markus’ image, which reflects the ongoing harsh treatment of black lives at the hands of the police. The message it sends is symbolic of the entire Black Lives Matter movement, Markus said.

The image captures the scope of #BlackLivesMatter, while putting systemic nuances into sharp focus. With these two characters, Markus hones in on a group that has largely gone overlooked in the national conversation around race and policing: Black women and girls.

Markus explained that the positioning of the players in the drawing are important. “The officer is restrained and under control, that’s the point,” Markus said, explaining that he thinks officers should practice these traits more often. “They’re not supposed to create more chaos.”

Markus said using his artwork to react to real-life events is the sort of thing he doesn’t do too often, mainly because he despises the idea of using his work as a prop to gain more attention. But watching Becton forced face-down to the ground by a police officer was something that he, as an artist, couldn’t ignore.

“I’m behind her, I support her and I hope that there’s some kind of justice and closure for her and her family,” he said.

As an artist, Markus said he simply wants to create — and isn’t too concerned with the praise or recognition he receives. Most of his work is centered around various empowering depictions of black women and reimagining how they’re presented.

“Black women are strong and powerful,” he said. “They’re resilient because they deal with everything a black man deals with, plus some. Personally, it’s an obligation because of what we’re going through as a race, we should put black women at a higher platform.”

And if viewers don’t recognize that message reflected in this image, Markus doesn’t seem to care. He says he’d rather share his work with those who do.

The most fashionable and rock’n’roll soul of the collection is conveyed by metal and acetate styles combined with temples featuring the iconic, gothic P inserted into a sort of one-colour or contrasting-colour wedge and embellished with metal decorations. The design of temples is enhanced by elaborate and original treatments, such as the two, thin, perforated horizontal lines that give temples a light and ultra-performing elastic quality. Frames in the high-tech NXT polymer, a cutting-edge material, continue to be very popular, and are offered in a wide palette of bright and soft colours and minimum thicknesses. The Eyewear 2013 Collection also marks the debut of the women’s capsule collection that retains the same identifying features of the men’s collection from Police. Original design and attention to detail characterize rectangular-shaped styles, thanks to an interplay of colours conveyed by contrasting wedges on the temples matched with milled metal front pieces and streaked plastic in bright and sophisticated hues. Sober colours, instead, customize the most linear and slightly butterfly-shaped styles embellished with metal ornaments. Josh Duggar Records Destroyed By Arkansas Police At Judge’s Request

Police in Arkansas have destroyed records detailing the investigation into sexual abuse allegations against TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” star Josh Duggar.

“The judge ordered us yesterday to expunge that record,” Springdale Police spokesman Scott Lewis told The Associated Press on Friday. “As far as the Springdale Police Department is concerned this report doesn’t exist.”

Lewis also told the AP that these types of records are usually kept indefinitely.

A 2006 police report, which was obtained by In Touch before its destruction, indicates that family patriarch Jim Bob Duggar knew as early as 2002 that Josh Duggar — who was 14 at the time — was accused of sexually abusing an underage girl. The teen was ultimately accused of inappropriately touching five underage girls, some of whom were his sisters, between 2002 and 2003.

Police did not find out about the allegations until 2006, when they were tipped off to a letter discussing the incidents, the AP reports. A family friend had lent another person a book, and the letter was stuck inside.

The police report obtained by In Touch indicates Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar told police in 2006 that they had disciplined their son themselves.

The couple allegedly said that they sent Josh Duggar to a “Christian program” that “consisted of physical hard work and counseling.” Michelle Duggar later admitted that they actually just sent him to live with a family friend to help with a home remodeling business, according to In Touch.

Both Josh Duggar, now 27, and his parents acknowledged the incidents and publicly apologized in Facebook posts on Thursday.

TLC pulled all airings of “19 Kids and Counting” from its lineup the day after Duggar admitted the allegations were true.

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee voiced his support for the judge’s decision to destroy the records in a Facebook post Friday. “There was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed — not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims,” Huckabee wrote.

The Duggar family has “a long and active history of political advocacy for social conservative causes,” CNN noted. Josh Duggar resigned from his position at the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group and lobbying organization, on Thursday. According to the AP, Duggar was previously “a public face” of the group.

Female Genitalia Police

I recently wrote a humorous piece on things I would never subject my vagina to (key word here being humorous). One of the things on my list was waxing. I have nothing against it personally, I am just a quaking coward and at 59 don’t feel the need to bare it all.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered there are actually Female Genitalia Police, lots of them, stalking the Interwebz for any and all slang references we ignorant sluts have been venomously spewing to reference our nether regions. Their job is to comment and admonish the author and those commenting for their complete and utter disregard for all things vulva.

In order to earn your Vag Badge, you must pass a daunting test, including labeling a chart of the female reproductive system. I have heard that there are over 532 areas that must be correctly labeled. GASP!

Other than an advanced degree in Latin, the only other requirement is:

Absolutely and with no exception, you may not possess a sense of humor. Ever.

Some have gone so far as to have frontal lobotomies to meet this stringent requirement.

SO listen up ladies! From here on out, we are to use the correct terminology for anything related to our “situation”. No more crass references like, snatch, poonanie, love muffin, cooter, beaver, minge, snapper, honey pot, snake charmer, hot pocket….you get the idea.

I hear you snickering and damn it, this is no laughing matter, especially to the Female Genitalia Police (herein referred to as IDIOTS).

Until such time as we have all been properly educated and enlightened, check-in for your next Mimsy Maintenance (doh! I’m going to get a Vulva Violation ticket for that mimsy reference!) may sound something like this:

WALK INTO SPA

Miss Mimsy: “Hi, yes, my name is Miss Mimsy and I have a 2:00 appointment for a Vulva Molten Magma Maintenance.”

Receptionist: “Uh, what? We don’t do that here, you need to see your OB/GYN for that kind of thing!”

Miss Mimsy: “No, no, you do, you see, because that IS what you are actually waxing. Your vagina is the inside part, dear, the tunnel of love, the sausage shroud, you know, the love glove! You must use the proper terminology. One cannot wax a vagina, silly one, it’s the VULVA that actually gets waxed.

Oh, and I want you to tell my technician to be particularly attentive when it comes to me left Labia Majora (leaning in whispering) – there was a Spanx elastic snapping “incident” that is simply still to traumatic for me to speak of.

Also, my Mons Pubus area is quite sore, I slept with a very vigorous lover, he was, well, how shall I put this,….an over-zealous humper. My God, he was like the Energizer Bunny on methamphetamine but alas, I digress.

Receptionist: I’m so sorry to hear that ma’am, I don’t mean to be rude but I think you are in the wrong place.

Miss Mimsy: Dear, I am in the proper place, this is The Landing Strip – the one that advertises “We don’t scare, there’s nowhere we won’t dare to bare“, yes?

Receptionist: Yes, ma’am we are but we are a spa, you know, a salon. We do hair, nails, and waxing. We don’t so any major pubus stuff. I don’t even know what that is and I’ve worked here six whole weeks! I think you want the clinic two blocks down on the right.

Miss Mimsy: As I indicated before, I will need some firm assurance that my Posterior Labial Commissure and my Labia Minora will most definitely not be touched, not touched at all. While we are being so brutally honest here, I must report to you that my overly enthusiastic lover of which I spoke earlier was also a bit clumsy in his desire to please and inadvertently entered my rectum. Oh my, it was quite the surprise, I must say, painful really, he was quite well endowed and hard as rock. He was stabbing and poking me with that giant penis like a plastic surgeon with his lipo wand – but to my point, dear, I will need my anus handled with the utmost delicacy. I can tell you that while I am not a gymnast and could not view the area with my magnifying hand mirror, the entire region is quite inflamed already.

Receptionist: Lady, look, I am really busy here. I don’t have a fucking clue what you are talking about and I have a lot of shit to do so what exactly is it you expect me to do here?

Miss Mimsy: OH ALRIGHT, DAMNIT!!

Gimme a full on Brazilian snatch wax, easy on the butthole! And no inexperienced little twat tech trainee, I need an experienced carpet cleaner for this hag shag! I did get shitfaced the other night and went home with a dude who was hung like a horse and took quite a pounding so I’ll also be needing a bottle of Merlot and a 10mg valium.

Receptionist: Damn, lady, why didn’t you just say that in the first place!

Nickelback Wanted By Australian Police For Crimes Against Music

Trashing Nickelback may be one of our great American pastimes, but this Australian police department just took hating the band to a whole new level.

The Queensland Police Service issued a tongue-in-cheek BOLO (Be On The Lookout) warning to locals via Facebook that the much maligned Canadian group would be bringing their crimes against music to the area. The faux wanted poster mocks the band for “impersonating musicians.”

Police are on the lookout for these men who are believed to be impersonating musicians around Boondall this…

Posted by Queensland Police Service on Tuesday, May 19, 2015

The quartet has been widely seen as a musical public enemy for decades. They were once deemed the second worst rock band of the ’90s in Rolling Stone.

Despite the disdain, Nickelback is still going strong and played in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday.

Elitist haters, the New York Times mused, might be what gives Nickelback “a foundation on which to build an enduring fan base in the shrunken marketplace of the digital age,” despite being slammed for a commercial, formulaic sound and insincere lyrics.

Based on frontman Chad Kroeger’s reaction to an online petition to ban the band from the United Kingdom last fall, we’d guess he isn’t sweating the Queensland police.

“All these critics, they’re just tireless,” he told The Pulse of Radio in October. “They keep ragging on the band. If they had stopped writing all this stuff about us, there would be no controversy left in the band and we probably would have died out years ago. They don’t know that they’re still responsible for us being around today.”

E! Is Pulling The Plug On ‘Fashion Police’ Until September

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Fashion Police” is taking a break after losing co-hosts Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin and plans to slip into something new for fall, the E! channel said.

Co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski and executive producer Melissa Rivers will be back in September with the series, which will “evolve” into its next chapter, E! said in a statement Tuesday.

Previously, E! said the celebrity critique fest would air as scheduled March 30 despite the exits of Osbourne and Griffin.

The hiatus announcement came a day after Griffin went on “The View” and discussed why she chose to quit March 12 after just seven episodes. The comedian, who replaced the late Joan Rivers, her friend and mentor, already had tweeted about leaving because she was uneasy being part of the show.

Griffin told “The View” Monday that the E! series didn’t suit her improvisational style and that she felt forced to “comment about pictures of beautiful women in perfect dresses and say kind of bad things.”

As a feminist and a comic, she said, it didn’t feel right.

Osbourne left the show in late February, after complaining about Rancic’s red-carpet criticism of African-American singer-actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks. Rancic said they suggested the smell of marijuana.

Zendaya went online to slam the remarks as “outrageously offensive” and Rancic later apologized, saying the experience taught her not to perpetuate cliches and stereotypes.

E! did not detail how “Fashion Police” would change or who its new co-hosts will be. The show has faltered since losing the wily, tart-tongued Joan Rivers, Melissa’s mother.

Police: Bobbi Kristina Brown Was In Traffic Wreck

ATLANTA (AP) — Whitney Houston’s daughter was involved in a traffic accident that injured two people days before she was found face-down in a bathtub, according to a police report obtained by The Associated Press.

Bobbi Kristina Brown lost control of her Jeep Liberty when a tire blew out on Jan. 27, crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding with another vehicle. Police in the Atlanta suburb of Roswell described “extensive damage” to both vehicles. Brown’s passenger and the other car’s driver were hospitalized. Brown blamed tire failure, and officers found a nail in the Jeep’s blown-out right rear tire, the incident report says.

Brown’s family said she’s been “fighting for her life” since she was found in her bathtub four days later, face-down and unresponsive. A police investigation is ongoing and few details on her condition have been released.

It wasn’t the first time police have been called to the townhouse in adjacent Alpharetta, Georgia, where Brown has lived with her partner, Nick Gordon. Brown frequently referred to Gordon as her husband, but a lawyer for her father, singer Bobby Brown, said they never married.

The Associated Press requested records from the Roswell Police Department, the agency that responded to the Jan. 31 call, for any previous contact with Brown or Gordon.

On Jan. 23, a security guard at their gated community called 911 reporting a fight at Brown’s address. The guard said a neighbor reported people “hitting each other and swinging” outside the townhome. The guard did not describe the people involved, and no one was there when officers arrived.

Police were called to the home on July 8, 2013, and Gordon told officers Brown was unresponsive after falling on the floor. Gordon described it as a seizure, but Brown told police she had no history of medical conditions and had never had a seizure. The incident report says Brown was disoriented and was taken to a hospital.

Last month’s crash also wasn’t Brown’s first car wreck. Police in Alpharetta cited her in November 2012 for failing to maintain her lane after the black Chevrolet Camaro she was driving landed in a ditch. No injuries were reported in that crash.

Gordon has also been cited for driving infractions. On Dec. 30, he was driving Brown’s Lexus and she was a passenger when police said Gordon rear-ended the car in front of him at a red light. Roswell police arrested him then on an unspecified Fulton County warrant.

Last August, Roswell police found Gordon with thick speech and droopy eyes at the scene of an overturned BMW, an incident report says. He was cited for failure to maintain his lane, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.

Gordon was also cited in April 2011 on a charge of pointing a pistol at another person during a fight. Brown was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol during that same incident.

Adult Swim’s ‘Black Dynamite’ Addresses Police Brutality On Season Finale Special, ‘The Wizards Of Watts’

In addition to competitive NFL post season match-ups and the annual Golden Globes taking place this weekend, Adult Swim’s hit animated series, “Black Dynamite” will also air its season finale titled, “The Wizards of Watts.”

The hour-long musical special, which will feature guest appearances from the likes of Tyler The Creator, Erykah Badu, Tim Blake Nelson and J.B. Smoove, will follow the show’s lead character, Black Dynamite, as he finds himself in the middle of a police infused riot during his one-day vacation. And despite the topic of police misconduct leading news headlines in recent months, show writers ironically insist it wasn’t in their intent to be “current.”

“This episode was written over a year and a half ago so it was never with the intent and purpose to be current,” writer-director, Carl Jones, revealed in a email statement to the Huffington Post. “It started as a parody of the Wizard of Oz that dealt with the pre-existing epidemic of police brutality.”

“It’s always important to me to tell stories that are honest and that not only speak to me but the human condition,” he added. “Police brutality itself is a byproduct of black people’s socioeconomic disposition in this country. Institutionalized racism is interwoven into the fabric of the country, police brutality is just one thread.”

Black Dynamite’s “The Wizards of Watts” will air Saturday, January 10th, at 10:30 PM ET/PT on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.

Teen Cosplayer Sexually Assaulted And Beaten Near Comic-Con, Police Say

A teen cosplayer who had been attending Comic-Con in San Diego was attacked, sexually assaulted and left bloody and unconscious on the side of a road early Sunday, according to reports.

Police said late Tuesday that they had arrested a 29-year-old man at the nearby Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, and charged him with sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The suspect has not been identified.

“The victim, a juvenile female, was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment,” the Port of San Diego Harbor Police said in a statement posted on G33K-HQ. “This investigation is ongoing.”

Earlier in the day, the victim’s parents posted a plea for information that was widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter as well as in fan forums and blogs.

The victim, who had been dressed in a creative take on a Roger Rabbit costume, was out with friends on Saturday night but left them after a disagreement, Raw Story reported.

Messages from family and friends posted on social media indicate the victim is currently in the ICU and may be suffering from bleeding in the brain. However, a more recent post on Facebook says “each day she is getting better.”

The Huffington Post is not linking to these posts so as to avoid revealing the identity of the victim.

It’s not yet clear whether the suspect attended Comic-Con, although the hotel where he was arrested is the event’s official headquarters and as a result is popular among attendees.

The assault has led to renewed calls in the cosplay community for a strict and more formal anti-harassment policy at the annual comic book and movie convention. Earlier this week, the group Geeks for CONsent presented a petition calling for a new policy, saying some women — especially those who attend in costume — report being being groped, harassed and insulted.
