Ganni Prepares to Open First London Store in Soho

NORDIC NOOK: London’s Soho district is getting its own small slice of Scandinavia, with a Danish fashion retailer and Swedish eyewear seller touching town near Golden Square in the spring.
Danish contemporary fashion brand Ganni, which is majority owned by L Catterton, will open a 2,750-square-foot store at 36 Beak Street. Harper Dennis Hobbs advised Ganni on the deal. And Sweden’s Viu Eyewear, which allows customers to take up to four frames home to test them, plans to open at 5-6 Upper James Street. That store will span 850 square feet.
Both sites will be a cinnamon bun’s throw from The Nordic Bakery, the Soho institution that serves up sweet and savory dishes from the region. A concept restaurant called Folly will open nearby over the summer, but that will have a French, rather than a Scandi, angle. Behind the venture are Guillaume Depoix and Thierry Costes of the Parisian hospitality family.
The two shops and the restaurant will move into a site that is still under construction, according to Matt Paulson at Levy Real Estate, which advised the landlord Titan Investments. He added that high-end residences will be built on the upper floors of the site.
London’s Soho is buzzing with real estate activity.

Royal Wild Child Prince Harry Prepares to Settle Down

LONDON – Prince Harry has become the star of his very own fairytale, closing the chapter on years of mad, bad – and generally naughty – behavior and starting a new life with his actress and fashion-loving fiancée Meghan Markle.
His engagement to Markle, which was revealed early Monday, finally puts an end to years of broken relationships, notably with the Zimbabwean lawyer Chelsy Davy and the British actress Cressida Bonas, and the prince’s sadness about not being able to find the right partner.

That all changed when Markle, a glamorous mixed-race actress, humanitarian campaigner — and divorcee — arrived on the scene. Although she’s kept a relatively low profile – Prince Harry asked the media last year to lay off – it’s clear the

Family of Tenn. Teen Elizabeth Thomas Prepares for ‘Highly Emotional’ Trial of Ex-Teacher and Alleged Kidnapper

On July 25, Tad Cummins, the 51-year-old Tennessee man accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student for 38 days and taking her across the country, will go on trial in federal court.

Cummins is currently behind bars in Nashville, charged with kidnapping and sex crimes in the alleged abduction of Elizabeth Thomas, then a freshman at Culleoka Unit School in Maury County. Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s father says the family is still coming to terms with the “horrific experience” he allegedly put them and their loved one through.

“It’s a highly emotional issue,” Anthony Thomas tells PEOPLE. “ is going to be very difficult for everybody.”

Both authorities and Elizabeth’s family allege Cummins “groomed” Elizabeth for months before the alleged abduction. Shortly after the pair was reported missing, becoming the subject of an ongoing AMBER Alert, Cummins was fired from his teaching job after having previously been suspended for allegedly kissing Elizabeth on school grounds.

It is unclear at this time whether Elizabeth will testify, but the family plans on attending the trial to show their support for her.

“We’ve spoken many times as a family,” Anthony says. “ is just something we’re going to have to go through.”

When she returned home after being missing for more than a month, Elizabeth was taken to an undisclosed location to work with psychologists and counselors. While she was not physically harmed, she had allegedly undergone a series of traumatic events, authorities said.

Thomas would not disclose how Elizabeth is currently doing but he said that with the family’s support and help of counselors, she is making progress.

“We are doing fine,” Thomas says. “It’s just a process you have to go through. being very supportive.”

On April 20, 38 days after she went missing, Elizabeth was recovered safely in Northern California where investigators say she had been staying in a remote cabin with her accused abductor. Cummins was arrested and later extradited back to Tennessee, where he awaits trial.

If convicted, Cummins faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison.

PEOPLE’s calls to Cummins’ public defender, Dumaka Shabazz, were not returned.

He also faces charges in California for alleged kidnapping and possession of stolen property.

Cummins’ public defender in California, Benjamin Galloway, issued a statement defending his client, claiming he has “no history of violence and no criminal history whatsoever,” and that he didn’t coerce, force or threaten Elizabeth, Cummins’ former student at the Culleoka Unit School in Maury County, Tennessee.

The Thomas family attorney, Jason Whatley has said any suggestion that Elizabeth might have gone willingly is “amazingly absurd.”

“This is classic grooming and manipulation,” he adds. “And I predict this case will be studied years in the future about how authority figures like Tad Cummins can mess up young children who believe their lies and are manipulated into doing things they would never do.”

Jeffrey Rudes Prepares New Men’s Collection for Global Ride

Jeffrey Rudes now has a flagship store in Manhattan’s SoHo section for his fledgling brand of luxury men’s wear, but it’s unlikely to remain the sole brick-and-mortar home for it.
Rudes, often cited as one of the patriarchs of the premium denim business for his founding and stewardship of the J Brand, opened his 5,800-square-foot store at 57 Greene Street Thursday after a presentation of his spring collection and opening party on Wednesday night. Even as he and his team struggled with last-minute details for the presentation and opening, he was already open to discussion of what’s next for what, until now, has been a self-financed enterprise.
“We expect to have a global, multichannel retail footprint,” he told WWD, “but first we want to get it right in our store and on our Web site. Would we use franchisees or finance the rollout internally? It’s too soon to say, but if I’m thinking in terms of a global rollout of the brand, I’m not going to be doing it myself.”
Rudes, who stuck to a wholesale, albeit global, model at J Brand, said “there’s been a little buzz created in the wholesale world. But, as with retail, first things first. We’re thinking in
