Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Stages First Paris Artistic Presentation

ART ATTACK: Homme Plissé Issey Miyake staged its first artistic presentation in Paris, on Thursday night at the Centre Pompidou. Guests in attendance lined all four walls of a vast room there, which made up the “playground” that the designer had created along with concept and direction by Daniel Ezralow.
To wit, there was a line of rings and a dangling rope, plus a tightrope in place before the beginning of the performance, which featured gymnasts, dancers and models. It sprang to life after a bell was chimed solemnly and men sprinted across the space to begin dressing.
A group of them lined up sporting a selection of the streamlined pleated clothing that comes in a wide array of saturated colors, from the brand’s fall 2019 collection created by Miyake and his design studio, and demonstrated how pieces can be mixed and matched. Two guys sporting wider garb did an amazing balancing act on the tightrope.

Men walked, danced and ran around the room, filling it with a swirl of lush hues and an exuberant, joyful vibe. A high point was when some swung from the rings in ethereal, mesmerizing synchronized movement.

Homme Plissé Issey Miyake to Hold First Presentation in Paris

NEW PLEATS: Homme Plissé Issey Miyake, a men’s line from the Japanese designer, is holding its first presentation in Paris on Jan. 17.
Choreographed by Daniel Ezralow, the artistic presentation will take place at the Pompidou Center at 9 p.m., following the Issey Miyake show earlier in the day at 11 a.m. in the Palais de Tokyo. Ezralow choreographed a presentation for Homme Plissé Issey Miyake featuring the men’s gymnastics team of Aomori University in 2013. The Pompidou Center presentation will take place in same space as a recent exhibit on Japanese architect Tadao Ando, a large room with windows lining one side.
Homme Plissé Issey Miyake was established in 2013 as a masculine counterpart to Pleats Please, which was launched two decades prior. The clothing is meant to be light and comfortable, with uniform pleats to keep fabric from sticking too close to the skin.
Designed by Miyake and his teams, pieces to be featured in the presentation are part of the fall winter 2019 collection, with most of the items pleated after being cut and sewn. The line has been growing with an offer ranging from ath-leisure and casual style clothing to suits.
In another recent Paris performance, Issey Miyake opened the

Matchesfashion.com Stages 40-model Live Presentation for Fall Buy

It’s been four years since Matchesfashion.com began staging seasonal press days in various cities and markets to present its buy to press, influencers and in some cases clients, with varying degrees of fanfare. For the most part, the presentations have featured looks and exclusives on static mannequins or racks, though in 2016 the online retailer took over the WOM Townhouse in Manhattan’s SoHo for a private press day, and then opened it up for consumers — essentially a pop-up — for a weekend of programming and previews of the site’s merchandise. Last year the company did something similar, hosting a series of “In Residence” programs in New York, Paris and Los Angeles that included industry and consumer-focused events, conversations with designers, editors and even a florist demo.
For fall, Matchesfashion.com changed it up again, with a two-hour live presentation featuring 40 models — 20 female, 20 male — in New York on Thursday. The models were arranged in vignettes in an open space at 100 Sixth Avenue in SoHo and styled in multibrand looks, many of them exclusives, giving the event the feeling of a fashion week installation rather than a retail press day. The company flew in international press as

Designers Use Epson Technology for Themed Couture Presentation

DRESSED-UP TECHNOLOGY: For a fourth year, Epson is hosting its annual “digital couture project” pre-New York Fashion Week. The theme of the Feb. 6 presentation, to be held in New York, is “Cosmopolitan Couture with Impossible Colors — How Does Your Culture Dress Up?” Participating designers from North and Latin America will showcase designs that used Epson’s textile printing solutions. Keith Kratzberg, president and chief executive officer of Epson America Inc., said the “future of fashion is customization — from the colors and prints, to the size and shape of garments — all on-demand.”
Kratzberg said the company’s “digital-imaging technology is changing the business of fashion, providing a platform for designers to print higher-quality, more unique designs for customers on-demand, as well as the ability to print just in time.”
Prior to the fashion show, Epson is hosting a panel discussion on how digital technology is changing the fashion industry. Panel participants include: interior designer Ryan Korban; Mark Sunderland from Thomas Jefferson University, and Aliza Licht, executive vice president of brand marketing and communications for Alice + Olivia.

Etro to Kick Off 50th Anniversary With Men’s Presentation in Milan

MILAN — “They affectionately call me the upholstery designer here,” said Kean Etro with a laugh.
Tanned and refreshed after his Christmas holidays spent between skiing in the Dolomites and sailing across the Indian Ocean, the creative director of the men’s wear line at the family-owned company is brimming with energy as he walks through the collection in an exclusive preview with WWD. His interest in home interiors is reflected in his designs and the nickname also comes from his deep and extensive knowledge of habitats around the world.
“Habitat is also the house that surrounds you and that you wear as a dress,” said Etro affably.

A medallion detail from Persian carpets that is reproduced on exquisitely embroidered jackets in silk and cotton velour is just one example of Etro’s ability to import from interiors to fashion. The lining shows colorful Etro banknotes and is so carefully defined it would be worth wearing the blazer inside out — although it is not reversible, the designer pointed out.
On a board is a mock-up of the installation that will serve as the background to the men’s wear presentation to be held on Jan. 13 at the Palazzo del Ghiaccio,

Roberto Bolle, Kendall Jenner Front Tod’s Spring Campaign, Attend Milan Men’s Presentation

BELLE AND BOLLE: Too bad Roberto Bolle couldn’t do one of his Grand Jetés at Tod’s chaotic presentation, held once again at the exquisite Villa Necchi in Milan. The Italian ballet star was literally squeezed between buyers, the press and TV cameras trying to see the new men’s collection — not to mention hordes of revelers sipping the free drinks and nibbling the canapés — with almost no room to breathe, let alone dance. Ever the pro, Bolle took the sardine-like conditions in stride and calmly and politely talked about the shoot of Tod’s spring campaign in Malibu, Calif., with Kendall Jenner, as images from the video were projected at the entrance. Jenner opened and closed Tod’s women’s spring runway show in September.
“It was fun and a pleasant break from a very intense period. It gave me a breather from the hours of training and tension, an escape from the daily sacrifice and sweat theater life requires,” said Bolle, who is seen dancing on the beach and warmly embracing a fresh-faced Jenner in the video. “These are fragments of Italian inspiration and we want to show the Italian style in the world.  It’s a joyful campaign and I think this

Eugenia Kim Marks 20th Anniversary With First NYFW Presentation

Accessories veteran Eugenia Kim marked her brand’s 20th anniversary as a novice at New York Fashion Week.
The brand held its first fashion week presentation at Pier 59 studios on Saturday, presenting a gaggle of models dressed in high-cut swimsuits — accessorized with Eugenia Kim hats, shoes and bags.
Kim said after 20 years, it finally made sense to hold a presentation given her label’s recent expansion from solely a hat business to one that offers shoes and bags as well.
“I feel like it’s hard as an accessories brand if you are only showing things in still life — it’s hard to bring it to life. But now that we have hats and shoes and bags we can create a full look. I think it’s a moment for us to reemerge and change people’s understanding of us as an accessories brand,” the designer noted.
Kim launched shoes in 2014, while bags were introduced for spring 2017.
The designer said between 60 and 70 percent of her business is presently dedicated to hats, while the remainder is nearly evenly split between shoes and bags. She hopes that ratio will level out in coming seasons.
Kim greatly expanded her bag offering for spring — growing it from

Paul Smith Returns to Pitti Uomo for Second PS by Paul Smith Presentation

BACK IN FLORENCE: Paul Smith is returning to Pitti Uomo for a second season to present the spring 2018 collection of PS by Paul Smith, his secondary label that was first launched in the Florence trade fair last January.
The designer said the big variety of brands and industry professionals Pitti Uomo draws together was one of the main reasons he decided to accept Pitti chief executive officer Raffaello Napoleone’s invitation to participate in the event for a second time: “Pitti is a great platform because it has such diversity both in terms of the brands presented and the people who attend from all over the world. Wandering around the Fortezza you can see everything from beautiful classic shoes to more directional and contemporary fashion.”
The new line continues to build on the contemporary, sporty aesthetic established during the brand’s first outing, with a focus on functional clothes that “people can really live their lives in.” There are plenty of striped jersey knits and track suit bottoms which reference Smith’s love of cycling, as well as windproof jackets and every-day sneakers. For spring, the designer also added more denim styles, as well as playful prints, which are featured all over messenger bags,

Tommy Gets Techie for Pitti Uomo Presentation

The traditional runway show is so last century.
So instead of trotting a bevy of male models down a catwalk, Tommy Hilfiger is preparing to unleash a multimedia extravaganza at Pitti Uomo to showcase his fall collection.
Hilfiger’s installation at the Florence trade fair from today through Friday takes the place of his traditional dinner in London, where he’s shown for the past few seasons and continues the designer’s move to reinvent the show format.
Last September, he unveiled his Tommy x Gigi Collection by creating a Tommy Pier at the South Street Seaport in New York City to showcase the see-now-buy-now line of women’s wear. And he has already revealed that his fall women’s show will jump to Los Angeles from New York next month.
Hilfiger’s presentation at Pitti marks the first time the brand will be shown at the Florentine trade show. “It’s the right time,” the designer said.
His participation will serve to showcase three levels of the company’s business: sportswear, tailored clothing and Hilfiger Edition, a modern take on men’s wear classics executed in premium fabrics and with luxe details.
On Tuesday the company will host a two-hour presentation at Palazzo Corsini where 20 looks from the Hilfiger Edition collection will be

Will.i.am and Brother Carl Gilliam Host MCCVIII Presentation

The duo behind sneaker brand MCCVIII hosted a presentation at the ICA during London Fashion Week Men’s in London.
While Carl Gilliam was watching “Ben-Hur” with his 14-year old daughter, the father and teen enjoyed the chariot scene so much that he referenced the Ancient Roman sport and named the lineup The Chariot collection. Resembling the curvatures of a two-wheeled, horse-driven carriage and the silhouette of a charioteer’s helmet, Gilliam treated the sneaker with rounded curves and lines. They also had puffer-style backs and gum soles. Available in two styles — high-top and low-top — the Chariot Archer was done in bright tones of orange, pink, blue and metallic gold. At a presentation held at the Institute for Contemporary Arts during London Fashion Week Men’s, the brand also showed off its Pharaoh style, which was updated with a gum sole and fringe embellishments. The collection will retail at 375 pounds, or $ 456, and will be sold at Harvey Nichols.

Denim North America Creates New Product Presentation Package

Denim North America, a division of DNA Textile Group, is introducing a new style of product presentation called the Dyed & Woven Collaborative Workshop.
“Since the mid-Nineties, there has been no significant change in the way that denim mills present fabric,” said Lisa Harris, DNA’s creative director. “We transitioned from fabric cards, to washed-leg panels and finally to full garment presentations, as it has remained for the past 10 years. We are taking a new approach by sharing our development tools directly with our customers and bringing the mill process to them. This allows for a truly transparent and collaborative development effort.”
DNA is showing the flexibility and diversity of a single base component across multiple fabrics, silhouettes and a variety of washes in the collection.
The Dyed & Woven Collaborative tool kit contains a sample from each step of the design process — from yarn slub and shade to construction, and wash — offering the ability to visualize many different combinations that the components are capable of producing. The kit has pouches of fabric swatches and yarns in a rolled up carrier ready for traveling, with pockets for DNA’s look book and other materials.
Denim North America collaborated with Seattle-based manufacturing company Hardmill to produce

Max Irons Attends Hogan Presentation

MILAN — Max Irons is no stranger to Milan since his girlfriend Sophie Pera was born in the Italian city, but this season he flew in just for the Hogan presentation on Saturday. Irons just wrapped up filming the TV series “Tutankhamun,” which also stars Sam Neill and was shot in South Africa. “I was in every single scene, and we filmed in the desert from September to December, so it was quite intense,” said the affable Irons, who played the role of archaeologist Howard Carter, who discovered the tomb of famed pharaoh. Of South Africa, the actor said its “recent history is potent, still alive and kicking.”
Irons is working on the movie “Blood Over Water.” The film is based on a true story and the book by David and James Livingston, the brothers who raced against each other in the 149th Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. In the movie, “I rowed for Oxford,” said Irons.
