Chiara Capitani Presents Latest Numero Otto Collection

MILAN — Following the footsteps of her friends Chiara Ferragni and Gilda Ambrosio — influencers-turned-designers of the Chiara Ferragni Collection and The Attico brands, respectively — Italian Internet personality Chiara Capitani presented the latest collection of the Numero Otto label she codesigns with Vasos Sideros.
Capitani, who counts 155,000 followers on Instagram, welcomed friends and buyers at the central Grand Hotel et de Milan during fashion week here to unveil a 20-item lineup of outerwear in fox, lamb, shearling and mink fur, inspired by the Eighties.

Some of the designs in the collection were dubbed after Capitani’s friends, including the Gilda black fur bomber with contrasting blue sleeves; others referenced top models, as in the Cindy fur long coat offered both in leopard and acid green.
For this season, Numero Otto also partnered with Saga Furs, the auction house with the broadest selection of superior furs from strictly regulated European sources, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability initiated joining the WelFur project. This is the global animal welfare program taking into consideration key parameters such as the animal’s health, natural behavior, well-being and feeding, as well as human-animal relationship and how a farm is managed.

Zac Posen Presents Spring — With a Little Help From Friends

Like lots of designers, Zac Posen wears many hats. In fact, he says it shakes out to 16 collections a year. He designs for Brooks Brothers; recently updated the uniforms at Delta Air Lines; released a cookbook; judges on “Project Runway,” and released a documentary. But it was his namesake label that started it all.
To present that collection for spring 2019, Posen is once again forgoing a traditional runway show — something he has done for several seasons — in favor of images and a film. The difference this season is that the film has a more narrative- and character-driven feeling. Gia Coppola shot the piece, with Maya Hawke as muse. To Posen, Hawke was more than just a subject — both she and Coppola are close personal friends, and Hawke, who was looped in and confirmed while he was still designing the collection, helped to influence his designs for the season. So spring 2019 was a family affair.
“The original Zac girl is a creative free spirit. When I think of my early muses, this collection has almost come full circle to that idea. It’s not grande dame, or overt glamour, there is a new side to it,” he says

Lapo Elkann Presents Spiaggina by Garage Italia

RIDING LA DOLCE VITA: Lapo Elkann continues to expand his Garage Italia project.
Founded as a creative hub focused on the customization of already existing vehicles, including cars and motor bikes, as well as boats, Garage Italia is now beginning to design exclusive cars.
The first fruit of this new direction was presented Wednesday night at Garage Italia’s Milan headquarters, which were inaugurated in November 2017.
Garage Italia has teamed with Italian design and engineering company Pininfarina and Fiat to unveil the new Spiaggina by Garage Italia, an exclusive car celebrating the 60th anniversary of Fiat’s Spiaggina series, a range of small models without a roof which were conceived to be used in the chicest ocean resorts.
Developed in a fresh color palette of light blue and white pearl and embellished with graphic details in Garage Italia’s distinctive blue tone, the Spiaggina by Garage Italia car, instead of two traditional front seats, features a leather bench and is defined by a sailing-inspired lowered windshield.

“It’s an extremely emotional moment for me and I think that the Spiaggina by Garage Italia is an example of the beauty, quality and uniqueness defining the Italian lifestyle and savoir faire,” said Elkann, Garage Italia’s president

Cos Presents Men’s Capsule Via Wayne McGregor-Choreographed Performance in Florence

LET’S DANCE: What better way to road-test a capsule of men’s wear essentials in movement than a performance based on the subtlety of everyday actions by British choreographer Wayne McGregor?
That was thinking of Karin Gustafsson and Christophe Copin — respectively creative director and newly appointed head of men’s wear at Cos — for bringing to life a soon-to-launch men’s capsule dubbed Soma.
The serene performance, featuring members of McGregor’s company dressed in items from the line, was held on Wednesday in the courtyard of the Istituto Degli Innocenti in Florence, and was followed by a presentation of the capsule at the local Cos flagship. Items included long bias-cut collarless shirts, a minimalist waxed and washed cotton coat with a crisp, papery surface and lightweight tailoring, in a palette limited to white, navy and gray mélange.
A limited quantity of the pieces worn by the dancers went on sale in the Florence store following the event, but the line will launch online internationally in September.
Speaking to WWD, Copin said a lot of fabric research went into the collection, down to “the sound of the fabrics when in movement.” He argued the decision to limit the capsule’s availability to online was to make it

Organizers of Berlin 032c Presents: Reference I Festival Reveal a Few More Details

At a small press conference here late Friday, the powers that be moved to fill in some of the informational gaps behind the new interdisciplinary happening, 032c Presents: Reference I Festival.
As reported April 26, a Gucci and Welt-hosted prelaunch dinner to celebrate the new project left more questions open than answered. At the follow-up session, the festival’s founders, Maria Koch and Thom Bettridge of contemporary culture magazine 032c; Mumi Haiati, ceo of fashion and lifestyle communications agency Reference Studios; art historian and gallerist Robert Grunenberg, and the festival’s special guest and cocurator Hans-Ulrich Obrist, curator of the Serpentine Gallery London, laid down a few more facts. Spanning fashion, design, art and technology in various forms including performances, installations, discussions, and interdisciplinary collaborations of all sorts, the festival will be held for a 24-hour period at Berlin’s most famous club, Berghain.
So far, so good.
Contrary to previous reports linking Reference Berlin I to Berlin Art Week in late September, the festival will be held on one of the last Saturdays in October, the final date to be determined as soon as the club’s owners return from holiday. It might have made sense to link the two events had Art Week and the

Mystery Still Surrounds New Interdisciplinary Festival: 032c Presents Reference Berlin I

REFERENCING BERLIN: The view from the private Journalists Club on the 19th floor of Axel Springer Haus was spectacular. The dinner’s hosts — Gucci and Welt — clearly top-notch, and the fashion, press and art world guests most eager and curious. Yet when the evening broke up, the outlook regarding the subject of the gathering — the upcoming 032c Presents: Reference I festival — remained as shrouded in mystery as ever.
Of the five W’s, where is the only real known: Berlin’s über club, Berghain. When: fall 2018, reportedly for a 24-hour period coinciding with Berlin Art Week, which runs Sept. 26 to 30. What: “an interdisciplinary festival spanning design, fashion, art and technology.” Who: the festival’s founders, including Maria and Joerg Koch as well as Thom Bettridge of contemporary culture magazine 032c; Mumi Haiati, ceo of fashion and lifestyle communications agency Reference Studios; and art historian and gallerist Robert Grunenberg. Hans-Ulrich Obrist, curator of the Serpentine Gallery London, will cocurate the festival as special guest.
As for the participants, the first unconfirmed names floating around are Gucci, which wouldn’t verify the report but is expected to be on hand with the second chapter of a three-part video, the first to be

Gwyneth Paltrow Presents Newest Crop of ‘Trend-Proof’ Goop Label Pieces in NYC

While Gwyneth Paltrow is a year into designing clothes for her brand, Goop Label, she maintains that the mix of chunky cashmere sweaters, pique blouses and tweed shift dresses isn’t at all fashion.
“It’s really the opposite of fashion,” said Paltrow at her first preview of the line in New York on Thursday. “We’re not trying to move the needle.”
Wearing a navy velvet pantsuit of her own design and white sneakers, Paltrow walked WWD through the newest pieces, which start at $ 195 and go up to $ 1,395. New looks include dark-rinse wide-leg jeans, a cargo parka with a fake fur hood and a camel coat made from Loro Piana cashmere.
“Everything we make at Goop comes out of a white space; it’s like that with our skin care,” said Paltrow. “I love designer fashion, I’m a fan, but it’s so incredibly expensive. My point was, is there an under $ 600 version of that blazer that’s made in the same factory in Italy? It turns out, yeah. The idea of it is, how do you respect the modern woman and make beautiful designer clothing that’s trend-proof?”
From Paltrow’s “white space” came a black silk mock turtleneck jumpsuit that would be a no-brainer for an office holiday party,

Irfé Presents New Direction

WINDS OF CHANGE: Irfé teased its new direction during Paris couture week by presenting a line chockablock with embroidery and fur.
“This collection is mainly for image, mainly [to show] the style using the codes of the house,” explained a company spokeswoman, who added none of the pieces on display was for retail. “They wanted to show the house’s know-how.”
Since discontinuing its ready-to-wear line, Irfé has undergone a series of modifications. There’s a new company management and studio team in place working with designer Olga Sorokina. However, the spokeswoman would not divulge names.
“The structure has changed,” she confirmed. “There is a new direction — everything is new.”
Meanwhile, the label’s clothes were shown in Irfé’s Paris showroom of three months, on Rue Vivienne.
The label’s collection took a cue from images of ballet dresses photographed by former dancer Vladimir Glynin.
“It’s only couture for now, but next time it is only going to be prêt-à-porter with a small couture collection,” said the spokeswoman. She added Irfé is hoping to take the presentation on the road — maybe to two or three key retailers.

“Post Mortem Presents: A Very Victorian Christmas,” Post Mortem Movement Theatre, Long Beach CA

The party prelude hooks you. There’s a Door Girl (Danielle Kaufman), a vampy pre-Henry Higgins Eliza Doolittle. A long, dark passageway – wait, is this Halloween? Rooms (so many possibilities but, alas, locked) off to the side. You emerge from this dim lit vaguely Christmassy birth canal and – gasp! – light. Crowd noise, music, a bar – red and green potent potables for one, please. A vampire, burlesque girls, a ghost, a clown and other dignitaries of darkness and noir hold court. A Host (Beth Pennington) calls the assembly to order and, like steel filings that hurl themselves at a redheaded magnet, it begins.

“Post Mortem Presents: A Very Victorian Christmas” is a staggering (in more ways than one) achievement. It gifts you the perfect antidote for the Whitman Sampler of bah, humbug Noel platitudes.

Conceived, directed and choreographed by Andrea Luna and Angela Lopez, it’s a riot of song, a rhapsody of dance and movement. In short, it’s a scream. It recovers and re-enacts the delightfully sinister Victorian winter solstice tradition. The shortest day of the year, an abundance of darkness, and that membrane that separates the undead and us dissolves.

What better occasion, then, for a couple of horror stories. ‘Tis the season, after all.

2014-12-20-vic3.jpg

Both stories concern ghosts. Each occasion dance numbers that build drama, enhance rhythm. One is frightful and ends happy ever, ever, after. The other is funny and ends tragic. Both run the gamut of the difference between one’s joyous expectations of the holidays and their grim reality. They are spooky, articulated nicely in that patent pending Post Mortem style of rave war paint, skulking movement, woeful facial expressions and gestures that, were one inclined towards physics, could be described as Heisenberg uncertain.

One concerns the woeful tale of Grimwald (Kyle Johnston) the sad clown. The other concerns a scaredy cat Santa Claus (Jeffrey Kieviet). Both are enchanting to watch, better yet, to share, as the stage is a few feet from the audience. The drama is as psychological as it is physical though it’s the physical bits, of course, we notice first. The humor, on the other hand, is Keystone Cops physical.

2014-12-20-vic2.jpg

No spoiler alert is necessary because this production was a one timer. Grimwald, a compelling combination of Heath Ledger’s Joker and Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp, becomes a successful entertainer. He becomes so successful that he hires a Jester (Alexis Udo-Udoma). The Jester – boo! Hiss! – steals the act. Talk about tit for tat sectarian violence. Grimwald kills the Jester, the Jester, undead but lethal, kills Grimwald’s Lover (Andrea Luna). Because it’s Christmas, though, Grimwald’s undead lover returns and they live happy ever (ever as in vampire ever).

And then there’s Santa. Probably because he reads The Daily Mail, his annual rounds scare the bejeezus out of him. Each time he stumbles, literally and figuratively, into each house, he expects something to befall him. Not even remotely jolly, he traipses in, defenses up, and then, no threat. The anthropomorphic Christmas Tree takes it all in gleeful stride. Santa relaxes, suspects nothing’s going to happen. Then he becomes the victim of a Murphy’s Law. Santa, R.I.P.

2014-12-20-vic1.jpg

Speaking of Eliza Doolittle, you do get accustomed to the face of Post Mortem. They’re energetic and innovative. In every sense of the word, they’re original. A vampire (Ashley Allen), burlesque girls (Sayaka Miyatani and Jessica Rae), and a ghost (Luna). Song (Ellen Warkentine and Andrew Pedroza), movement, and dance. Stories that tangentially evoke Christmas and massively describe the human condition. “A Very Victorian Christmas” offers one big festive wassail. A grog or two in, you might even say it’s good for wassails you.

Exchange Your Presents for Presence

There is always a moment around Thanksgiving — that time when the hype of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sets in — when we begin to dread the responsibilities and chaos of the holidays. To counter that feeling, I have reframed my thinking, shifting focus from presents to presence, to reclaim the spirit and peace of the season. That has made all the difference.

We teach this shift to the professionals in our leadership class. The December sessions focus on connecting with the humanity of others — others whose wants and needs may differ from your own. We work on the gifts of presence: listening, storytelling, and paying it forward.

As families gather this season, shifting focus to the gift of presence can enrich the conversation and bring back the spirit of joy. It begins and ends with listening. Instead of repeating the same old mundane travel stories or complaints about relatives who are not in the room, how about laser-focusing on one another in a loving and positive way? We use the following strategies in class to gift presence to one another, and they are easily adapted to the dinner table.

2014-12-17-Presencedadandchild.jpg

1. Shining the Spotlight: In class, members of a team take turns shining the spotlight on each other with undivided attention and specific positive feedback. Starting with one person, everyone around the table takes turn sharing what they admire about that person, what they have learned from them, or how they have been helped by them. Then the attention moves to the next person, and then the next. It’s a bit awkward at first, but quickly the conversation warms up as group members rivet on one another’s strengths. The givers and the receiver are enriched in this exchange, and the shared joy warms the room.

2. Storytelling: Storytelling animates the room and creates the ties that bind us. We do a variety of exercises in class designed to help people share their stories. At the dinner table, ask each person (this works for all ages) to share a story that made them smile or touched their hearts. This bonding experience opens our hearts and eyes to the goodness we experience around us. Everyone has a tale to contribute.

2014-12-17-Presencewomanandmother.jpg

3. Pay It Forward: Each year, we give our class members one actual present: a $ 20 bill. The only stipulation is that they must pay the $ 20 forward to someone, without expecting anything in return. This requires that people pay attention to the wants and needs of strangers around them, and step up to help them. I’ve made a tradition of giving my children Pay It Forward $ 20 bills as stocking stuffers, so that they continue this practice. They have helped street musicians, mailmen, and mothers in the grocery line with this unexpected generosity and presence.

4. Legacy: As the new year approaches, we often take time to reflect on what we’ve done in the past year and what we hope to do in the coming year. In class, we ask our students to take this a step further and consider their legacy 40 years from now. How do they want to be remembered by their family, colleagues, friends, and community? In the end, what will they have done that mattered? What will they do to make this world a better place? How will they contribute to the goodness that this world needs so desperately? By listening inwardly to discern what calls to them, they gain insight into what to start doing right now.

This can feel like the best of seasons — filled with love, joy, and possibilities — or the worst, filled with the frustration of buying presents, being bombarded with advertisements for things we do not need or cannot afford, and national news stories of tragedy and grief. What we do need and can afford is to demonstrate leadership in conversations with family and friends and take action to increase our presence and that of those around us. Exchange presents for presence to experience and spread the joy that we all hope for at this time of year.

‘Bob’s Burgers’ Presents New Thanksgiving Song, ‘Gravy Boat’

There aren’t enough Thanksgiving songs in the world, and that’s why we’re shining a spotlight on Gene, Linda and Gayle’s addition to that limited selection. On the Thanksgiving episode of “Bob’s Burgers,” the sisters took a moment before the turkey was cut to regale the assembled family and friends with “Gravy Boat” — with Gene providing the musical accompaniment.

What starts off as fairly cute and innocuous quickly takes a turn toward the weird — much like most episodes of “Bob’s Burgers.” Unfortunately, Bob fell asleep, interrupting the song. But here’s what we got:

A ding, a ding, a-what’s that sound?
It’s the gravy boat a-comin’ around
It’s not a Navy boat, it’s the gravy boat
Filled with bravery, savory, sailor folk

Sailors in your mouth
Sailors in your mouth

Now it’s stuck in your head and you’ll find yourself hoping they get to continue this masterpiece next Thanksgiving.

“Bob’s Burgers” airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. EST on Fox.
