Five Mothers Dress As Disney Princesses For Magical Maternity Shoot

Victor and Marie Luna, a husband-wife photography team in Texas, might have come up with the most magical maternity shoot ever.

On April 7, Victor, a photographer, and Marie, a photo editor, went to Newman’s Castle in Bellville, Texas, for a maternity shoot with five women. The theme? Disney princesses.

The couple was first inspired by the new popularity of “Beauty and the Beast” and then decided to expand their idea.

“It started out with a Belle-inspired shoot, but as we talked about the ideas and planned it, the more we wanted to go outside of our own element,” the couple told HuffPost. “That is where the group shot of the Disney-inspired photo shoot with all the princesses came to be.”

For the shoot, the mothers (who were either previous clients or models) dressed as Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog,” Snow White, Cinderella, Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” and Jasmine from “Aladdin.” Sew Trendy Accessories, a business that makes handmade maternity gowns, provided the dresses.

Victor and Marie told HuffPost that they aligned the “beautiful mommies” with the princesses they thought they represented. They also described the shoot as “a mix of magic and chaos.”

“Between the wardrobe changes, the makeup retouches, the pee breaks, and one mommy close to giving birth, we managed to make it come together beautifully,” they said.

The couple didn’t want to dive too deep into the characters, but did add a few touches to the shoot like ribbons, headpieces and flowers to represent the princesses. For example, the mom who dressed as Cinderella held a glass slipper for some of her photos.

The moms in the shoot were “incredibly excited” to see the final results, according to the couple, and Victor and Marie said they were happy to make the moms feel like Disney royalty for the day.

“When we noticed that a few people started to share the photos, our mommies would get in contact with us to let us know that they were famous!” they said. “It made us feel so happy that they were feeling like actual princesses.”

See what some of your favorite royal ladies look like when they’re off duty:

Charlotte Casiraghi wore an on-trend denim dress with a straw hat and easy thong sandals for a daytime outing.

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands wore clamdiggers with a printed tunic for a jaunt to the beach.

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana of Thailand’s ladylike blue day dress is summer-perfect.

Princess Beatrice of York plays it cool with a motorcycle jacket over a fit-and-fare dress.

Princess Victoria of Sweden (with adorable little Princess Estelle) chose a floral print dress with a dainty cardigan and block-heeled sandals.

Queen Letizia of Spain wore ikat-print pants for a walk with King Felipe VI.

Empowering Series Gives Princesses Lives Beyond Happily Ever After

The usual fairy tale goes: Prince Charming sweeps a princess off her feet, they ride into the sunset and that’s where the story ends. But that’s not how it works in Amelia Case’s fairy tale universe.

Case, mother to 12-year-old Isabella and 9-year-old Sophia, is the creator of “Princesses with a Twist,” a book series that gives readers a look at what life is like for princesses after their happy endings. She came up with this added layer of princess fiction to spread a message of female empowerment to her daughters and show that these classic characters can accomplish their goals — even after they find their prince.

“It’s a way to give the princesses some self-esteem, too,” Case told the Chicago Tribune. “They’ve been through some serious stuff. Why on earth would any story end there?”

So far, Case and her daughters have written 15 stories about beloved princess characters. In Cinderella’s post-pumpkin carriage life, the princess finds meaning in starting a business that creates — you guessed it — glass slippers. Snow White faces her fear of apples in Case’s fictional tale, and they end up becoming her favorite food. Other featured princesses include Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid.

From offering their imaginations to choosing an illustrator (and even sketching illustration ideas of their own), Isabella and Sophia have been there every step of the way. “Except for choosing the font and paying the bills, they have just about done it all,” Case said in an email to The Huffington Post.

Case hopes to create the first three books with help from a Kickstarter campaign. According to a video featured on the page, the money raised will fund things like professional illustrations and legal fees. As of July 9, the campaign has raised more than $ 16,000 of the $ 30,000 goal.

With more than half of the money raised and two weeks left in the campaign, it seems like the “Princesses with a Twist” series is well on its way to proving that the life of a princess isn’t all ball gowns and cute animal sidekicks. Like the site suggests, “there is more to all of these lovely characters than just a pretty face and a handsome prince.”
