Andrisen Morton Puts Succession Plan in Place

Andrisen Morton, Denver’s premier men’s store, has put a plan in motion that is intended to ensure its survival well into the future.
Over the next four years, Craig Andrisen, who founded the store with David Morton nearly 40 years ago, will transition into a different role within the company. And Lindsay Morton, David’s daughter, who has worked with Andrisen in a buying capacity at the business for the past decade, will take over his role.
“This is about brand perpetuation,” said David Morton. “Neither Craig nor I are 30 years old anymore and we wanted to keep the business going.” Lindsay Morton is the only second-generation family member in the company, he said, so it made sense for her to take on a larger role. “She’ll be heading the next generation of leadership,” her father said.
David Morton said he will continue to be involved after the four-year transition period when Andrisen is expected to focus full-time on running the company’s Peter Millar stores. Andrisen Morton has operated the Peter Millar store in the Cherry Creek North development in Denver since 2015 as well as a unit at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, which opened last year.

Dressember Puts Dresses to Work Against Sex Trafficking

Many people go through rotations of dresses every December for countless holiday and New Year’s parties, but for those participating in Dressember, getting dolled up comes with a dose of do-gooding.
“Dressember is an annual campaign where people wear dresses every day during the month of December as a way to raise awareness and money for anti-trafficking organizations,” the organization’s co-founder and chief executive officer Blythe Hill explains. “We focus specifically on sex trafficking, but there are all forms of trafficking as well that go into it. “
Hill got the idea for the dress-a-day style challenge in college, and later connected it with her passion for eradicating sex trafficking.
“There are more people alive today in slavery than ever before in history – the numbers are upwards of 36 million people. It’s a $ 150 billion industry and the vast majority of people trapped in trafficking are women and girls. It’s one of the fastest growing criminal industries,” she says. “When I started hearing about it I was in college and I just felt this immediate urgency to do something about it. At the time, I was an English major and didn’t know [what to do]. I was like, ‘ok, should

Jet-a-porter Puts the Focus on Dressing for Holiday, Adventures

HOLIDAY READY: Net-a-porter is putting more focus on holiday wear as it looks to answer to the needs of an increasingly global and mobile consumer who is big on experiences, travel and her social media image.
The e-tailer has launched a new category, Jet-a-porter, offering a curated selection of resort, swimwear and ski clothing. According to the company, skiwear has increased by more than half since last year. Given its significant growth trajectory, it made up almost three-quarters of Net’s Cruise 2017 buy.
“We’ve seen major growth year-on-year since launching the sports category, Net-a-sporter, in 2014 and we don’t see this slowing down any time soon,” said Elizabeth von der Goltz, Net’s global buying director.
She said that among the best-selling brands were Fendi, Perfect Moment, best known for their onesies, Moncler Grenoble and the knitwear label Chinti and Parker, which recently created an exclusive capsule for the retailer.

She also noted a shift in consumer behavior and the increased importance of experiences as drivers of the new trend.

Molly Goddard Puts on ‘Fashion in Motion’ Show at the V&A

MOLLY’S WORLD: British designer Molly Goddard staged a show at the V&A’s newly opened Sainsbury Gallery — and took the opportunity to introduce pieces from her first pre-collection — as part of the museum’s ongoing Fashion in Motion series.
The range was more wearable than her fantastical main line, with its outsized proportions and sweeps of tulle. They also featured more pattern, from floral prints to tartan ones.
Goddard said the pre-collection was also inspired “by all the bit I love from the V&A’s collection, from embroidery to 17th-century underwear and a section on punk.”
It was the first show that Goddard hosted outside the official fashion week calendar. The Fashion in Motion series is for members of the public and the lines to enter Goddard’s show wound all the way around the museum.
“We made a lot of effort to make the show really special — it’s the biggest one we’ve ever done. It’s great not to have the pressure to produce things that are on-trend or seasonal,” said the designer, adding that she and her sister Alice had fun picking our their favorite designs.
She said their selection included some the “most ridiculous and unwearbale” pieces she has produced. They included a tiered

La Prairie Puts on Paris Art Exhibit

ART ATTACK: La Prairie continues linking up with artists, most recently in Paris’ Triple V gallery on Tuesday night to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Swiss brand’s Caviar collection.
Jean-Baptiste Grosdidier, general manager of France for the company, called La Prairie “the artist of formulation.”
“We asked five artists to create [pieces] thinking of La Prairie and the exclusive Cellular Complex,” the executive explained.
For the Paris show, Paul Coudamy built a sculpture, called “Living Cells,” reminiscent of a cellular structure with black balls — like caviar — attached to sections. In another one of his pieces, called “Solid Frequencies,” sound waves emitted by a person’s arm and hand caused little white balls to jump around in a large glass tube.
Cinq Fruits displayed large-sized photographs reminiscent of the link between beauty and science. While Bonjour Lab and TremensS also created two other pieces especially for the exhibit.
It’s been a busy few months on the art front for La Prairie. In March, the brand launched a digital takeover of its Instagram account, @laprairie, by six Swiss artists. Then in June, the company partnered with Art Basel for the first time.

The ‘Cage Cage’ Puts You In A Cage, Forces You To Watch Nicolas Cage Movies

In an ideal world, none of us would have to work and we could just watch Nicolas Cage movies all day. Sadly, we don’t live in that world so we’ll just have to settle for the next best thing.

Enter The Cage Cage, “a VR simulation of what it’s like to be trapped in a cage and forced to watch Nic Cage movies.”

Once you’ve passed that main page, it looks something like this:

Incredible, no?

The Cage Cage is meant to be viewed with a VR headset, but even on desktop, it is a masterpiece. We’re extremely unsure how we ever lived in a world without this.

This deliciously wonderful ode to Nicolas Cage was made by Mike Lacher, a writer and developer, and Chris Baker, who defines himself as a maker of “things on the internet that people like to talk about.” The co-collaborators are “big Cage fans” who “love watching clips of him at his cagiest.”

“When Chris suggested we make a cage where you’re surrounded by Nic Cage movies, we had no choice but to see it to completion. Watching one Nic Cage movie is great, but watching four simultaneously while locked in a cage is even better,” Lacher told The Huffington Post.

“I hacked it together in a few hours and just posted it today.”

The Cage Cage features clips from classic Cage flicks like “Adaptation,” “The Wicker Man,” “Face/Off,” “Wild At Heart,” and many others.

We didn’t spot any inclusion of “National Treasure” or “Moonstruck” ― clearly, two of Cage’s best films ― but perhaps if you stay in the cage long enough, either of those will appear.

(Though, if you’re like us, you have them on DVD and VHS so it doesn’t much matter anyway.)

Lacher and Baker hope that the use of virtual reality will “give the world a whole new appreciation of Nicolas Cage’s work.”

We couldn’t hope for more from this gorgeous piece of art ourselves. The world could use a little more Nicolas Cage in it.

We asked Lacher and Baker what their favorite Nic Cage movies are ― a choice that is arguably harder than Sophie’s ― and Lacher said “Face/Off.”

“But if I had to pick one single Cage moment, it might be in Bangkok Dangerous when he’s eating the spicy soup and keeps talking about how spicy it is,” he said.

That is solid Cage, Lacher. Solid.

Milan Puts Spotlight on Young Talents

YOUNG GUNS: Milan’s Palazzo Morando on Wednesday evening was lit up for two back-to-back events hinging on fashion’s generation next: “Empower Talents 3,” hosted by Vogue Italia editor in chief Franca Sozzani and Kering chairman and ceo François-Henri Pinault, a project that offers internships at the luxury brands that are part of the French group in Italy; and the “Who is On Next? and Vogue Talents” happening, also hosted by Sozzani.
“It’s always beautiful to channel the energy of youth and work with new talents,” said Carlo Capasa, president of the Italian chamber of fashion.
“I came earlier to Milan to check out the new designers,” said Laudomia Pucci. “It’s our duty not only to find them but to help them.” How did she feel about the debut show of Massimo Giorgetti at the helm of Emilio Pucci on Thursday? “Very confident,” she grinned.
Salvatore Ferragamo’s Massimiliano Giornetti was taking a break from putting the finishing touches to his collection, to be shown on Sunday.
“It’s all ready and done,” countered Anna Molinari about her own lineup. Giambattista Valli, Lapo Elkann, siblings Alberta and Massimo Ferretti, Moncler’s Remo Ruffini, Sara Battaglia, and Elena Ghisellini also attended.

“Wood, Metal, Screw 2” Puts a Ban on Canvas – August 22, at Gabba Gallery!

“Art is very often put into categories, and the canvas dominates the art category,” explained Jason Ostro, owner of the Gabba Gallery, and co-curator of “Wood, Metal, Screw 2.” Opening on Saturday, August 22, the group exhibition celebrates alternative media, and will feature the work of forty-five artists. Ostro continues, “‘Wood, Metal, Screw 2’ is a new style art show where the medium of art on canvas is not allowed.”

2015-08-18-1439861477-4170211-1Aug222015croppedGABBAflyerWoodMetalScrew.jpg

Gabba Gallery is an up-and-coming gallery that has presented a long list of unique exhibitions since it opened in 2012. Unlike the typical gallery owner, Ostro is also a street artist. He has a diverse background that also includes fashion, music as well as art. Citing his mother as the impetus to luring him to the art world, Ostro has helped many emerging artists sell their work and is responsible for organizing numerous art shows. For this exhibition he and co-curator Phil Santos have gathered together a varied assortment of talented artists. “I’m looking for art that captures imagination, expresses happiness, love or sorrow,” said Ostro. “I want art that makes people feel!”

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2008, the Canadian born artist Jennifer Verge has immersed herself in her art as well as the LA art scene. Although it has not always been an easy road, Verge has persevered with a positive attitude, which is ever present in her art. “I am grateful to be a part of this particular show. This type of mixed media art really excites me,” said Verge. This will be her second time showing with the Gabba Gallery. “I’m really proud to be showing at this gallery. Jason the owner is amazing! He and Phil have curated fantastic shows together. With over 45 different artists the opening is going to bring a huge crowd…a guaranteed fun night.”

“Jennifer Verge is an artist with heart and love,” said Ostro. “It shows up in her work perfectly. Jennifer’s combination and use of materials to convey her messages are the perfect art for ‘Wood, Metal, Screw.'”

Verge will be showing one of her brand new works titled Some People Feel the Rain Others just Get Wet, which was inspired by a recent outing with her sister and some close friends during a rare LA rainstorm. “It’s important to surround yourself with people who live by these words.”

Verge has found inspiration in family and friends before. She incorporated the phrase “Enjoy your Life 24/7” into one of her first mixed media works to be shown at a gallery. “It was the last thing one of my favorite aunts said to me before she passed away,” she revealed. “It will always be one of my favorites.” The work sold that night – one might say it was a sign from above. http://www.jenniferverge.com/

Nathan Cartwright, probably best known as the owner/curator of the Hive Gallery. Cartwright has played an active part of the downtown art community for over ten years. Prior to owning his gallery, he curated underground art exhibitions at Hangar 1018.

For “Wood, Metal, Screw 2,” Cartwright will be showing a sculpture titled the Ladder. The above image is a photo of just one portion of the entire sculpture. He explains, “This piece illustrates the evolution and transformation of self through playful images, robotics and lights.” The multi-dimensional work is influenced by Alchemy. The artist incorporated symbols of from several religions and perhaps a bit of his own sarcasm while commenting on the destructive roles that people choose to play. The piece also celebrates transformation. “My mission is to move my viewers to a place of play and communicate about the evolution of the self,” said Cartwright.

When asked what he thought of the theme of the exhibit, he said, “I love the concept – it is basically mixed media, constructed work and this is what I love to do! Plus, I love looking for new junk and shapes and toys to make art with…it makes every trip out of my door an adventure. Who knows? You may find the perfect cabinet door to make a masterpiece on!!! http://www.artwrightstudio.com/ http://hivegallery.com/honey/

Chicago based artist Nate Otto has been creating as long as he can remember. He is known for his imagined cityscapes, which he will be showing as part of the “Wood Metal Screw” exhibition.

“For this piece I wanted to show one building set off from the rest of the city, as living in a large city can sometimes be lonely and alienating. I was thinking about Los Angeles and I wanted to show the city tapping into a dwindling water supply below. Some of the pipes don’t reach the water level.” http://nateotto.com/home.html

Jason Ostro continues to be an active implement of change and a positive force for the survival of the arts in the Rampart District (adjacent to Silverlake). In 2013, he began the Gabba Arts District Mural Tour, which is a true labor of love. To date, he is responsible for creating over eighty murals in the area. He has utilized talented artists from all over the world to better his community.

Both Ostro and Phil Santos will each have one work in “Wood, Metal, Screw” showing along with over forty artists. When asked what he loves most about curating, Ostro answered. “The energy, the art, the pulse of fresh art.” @jasonostro @philsantosart

There will be an opening reception for “Wood, Metal, Screw” on August 22 from 7-10pm at Gabba Gallery (3126 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90057). The event will feature guest DJ Jonathan Williams, and is sponsored by 7/11, Hubert’s and Perrier. Teen’s Hilarious Senior Quote Puts New Spin On Coming Out Of The Closet

Maxwell Barrett wanted to leave high school “with a bang.” He succeeded.

The 18-year-old senior at Raritan High School in Hazlet, New Jersey, tweeted a screenshot of his yearbook photo and accompanying quote on Tuesday:

The quote, credited to “Unknown,” reads: “Of course I dress well, I didn’t spend all that time in the closet for nothing.”

“I wanted to go out with a bang,” Barrett, who is indeed very snappily dressed in the photo, told The Huffington Post. “I had never done sports, or clubs. I was always just an art student. I wanted to go out in a way people would remember me by!” He added that he didn’t come up with the quote completely on his own, but had rephrased a similar quote he’d seen online.

Barrett said he was “out” as gay to most people around him. Though he had never officially told his parents, he said he could tell that they already knew. “It was just more of a confirmation to [my parents] than a coming-out story,” he said.

And his parents’ reaction?

“They said it was the best one in the yearbook and that they were proud of me,” Barrett said. He mentioned that his classmates also loved it, and that even teachers had pulled him aside to congratulate him and comment on the quote.

Barrett said a yearbook supervisor initially told him they weren’t going to run the quote because of its “shock value.”

However, Hazlet Township Public School Superintendent Bernard Bragen could not confirm that happened.

“My understanding is that it was never pulled,” he said.

Bridget Barkan Puts A Modern Spin On A Judy Garland Classic In Honor Of Homeless LGBT Youth

Among gay audiences, Judy Garland is one of few performers who never seems to go out of style.

New York singer-actress Bridget Barkan proved that point at 2014’s “Night of a Thousand Judys” when she crooned a tender version of “As Long as He Needs Me,” which was introduced in the Broadway musical “Oliver!” and performed by Garland on her television series, “The Judy Garland Show,” in 1963.

Now in its fifth year, “Night of a Thousand Judys” — which is a special presentation of New York- and Los Angeles-based actor, writer and performer Justin Sayre’s variety show, “The Meeting,” and timed to coincide with LGBT Pride Month — will benefit the Ali Forney Center, an advocacy group dedicated to homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) teens and young adults.

As in previous installments, performers from Broadway, television and downtown cabaret will hit New York’s Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Center June 1 to croon songs made famous by Garland during her fabled career. The 2015 lineup includes Melissa Errico, Liz Callaway, Michael McElroy, Lauren Worsham and The Skivvies, among others.

Sayre interviewed Ali Forney Center founder Carl Siciliano for his “Sparkle & Circulate with Justin Sayre” podcast. You can check that out here.

Meanwhile, you can also view some previous performances from “The Meeting” on Sayre’s official YouTube page. For more Sayre, head to Facebook and Twitter, too.

This Puts Run-Of-The-Mill Father-Daughter Wedding Dances To Shame

When bride Kandice Mickunas joined her dad on the dance floor for their father-daughter dance, she had no idea what her ‘ol pops had in store.

The dance started out traditionally — a slow number to Louis Armstrong’ “What A Wonderful World.” A few moments in, dad Jim Mickunas grabbed a glove and baseball for himself and his newlywed daughter and started throwing around the ball to the tune of John Foggerty’s “Centerfield.”

“My daughter has always found her own path,” Jim captioned a video of the dance on YouTube. “She played flag football at 6. She hated wearing dresses. She wore a tuxedo to her first communion. She lettered in soccer and track. She then became an engineer for the largest automaker in the world when she was 22. I could not imagine having a traditional father-daughter dance with her. That is not what we were or are… So I came up with this. She had no idea!”

In a sweet twist, Jim hands off the glove and ball to his new son-in-law. Watch the video above to see how it all unfolds.

‘American Sniper’ Trailer Puts Bradley Cooper Back In Oscar Season

Warner Bros. dropped the first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper” on Thursday, and it’s a doozy: The two-minute clip focuses on Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in United States history, and provides a brief window into what kind of decisions he was asked to make during his time as a Navy SEAL. Bradley Cooper plays Kyle in Eastwood’s film, and from the extra bulk on Cooper’s frame to the Texas accent he affects, it’s the kind of part that could put the two-time Oscar nominee in line for a third straight nod. Either way, keep “American Sniper” on your long list of Oscar contenders for one simple reason: Eastwood’s “Million Dollar Baby,” which had a similar “surprise” release in 2004 and went on to win Best Picture.
