As Barneys’ Destiny Remains Uncertain, Nanushka Celebrates Joining the Retailer

Signs reading “Not Closed” and “Barneys Til I’m Dead” were posted on the doors of Barneys New York’s Beverly Hills flagship, which has always had a sense of humor, even about itself. While the future for the bankrupt retailer may still be unclear, Nanushka — the Budapest-based brand designed by Sandra Sandor — was celebrating its arrival at the store Thursday night in Los Angeles.
“Nanushka has been at least two times almost bankrupt,” shared Sandor of the influencer-loved sustainable brand with vegan leather basics that’s been worn by Gigi Hadid, Drew Barrymore and Charlize Theron, among others. “We said, ‘We’re going to close the business.’ But I never believed in closing the business. I knew it would go on. And I see Barneys in a similar way.…I feel that they will solve it. I don’t think it’s going to close down.”
“We heard the rumors and the news,” chimed in co-owner and chief executive officer of the brand Peter Baldaszti. He’s also Sandor’s fiancé. “But Barneys has its place in the retail landscape, despite the struggles.”
Things took a turn for the better for Nanushka after it received an investment from a Hungarian private equity firm. Sandor, who started the label in

Missing Woman’s Remains Found Burned in S.C. Home — and Brothers Who Lived There Are Charged

Two brothers face multiple charges after the charred remains of a South Carolina woman who had not been seen all month were found last Friday in their home, PEOPLE confirms.

Stacy Davidson Carmack’s burned body was found in the home of brothers Charles Alexander Dogan and Tony Nolan Dogan by investigators last Friday, a Greenville County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

Carmack, 45, was reported missing on June 13, WSPA reports. She was last seen on the same road as the Dorgan’s residence on May 28 or 29, according to a sheriff’s office news release obtained by PEOPLE.

On Friday, deputies went to the Dogan’s residence to collect forensic evidence in Carmack’s disappearance. During their search, investigators discovered Carmack’s remains, which had been burned.

On Monday, the brothers were taken into custody.

Charles Dogan, 60, has been charged with desecration of human remains, criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice while Tony Dogan, 52, has been charged with criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice for his alleged involvement in the case, according to the spokesperson.

Charles Dogan is accused of burning Carmack’s body and taking “steps to conceal death from investigators by providing misleading statements hampering the investigation,” according to an arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE.

He is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center on a $ 30,000 bond, according to jail records.

Tony Dogan’s bond was set at $ 15,000, according to jail records. He will be held under house arrest with a GPS monitor, Fox Carolina reports.

Carmack’s cause of death is still under investigation.

It is unclear whether Charles Dogan or Tony Dogan have attorneys. They have not yet entered pleas.

Thor: Ragnarok Remains Box Office Champ in 2nd Weekend

Thor: Ragnarok held strong in first place during its second weekend at the North American box office, earning an estimated $ 56.6 million.

Marvel Studios’ latest, which had the fourth-largest opening of 2017 last weekend, now has a domestic total of $ 211.6 million, eclipsing the earnings of the first Thor movie and Thor: The Dark World. Additionally, Ragnarok’s global total now stands at $ 650 million, making it the twelfth consecutive film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to soar past the $ 500 million mark in worldwide earnings.

Cambodia’s Bomb Divers Overcome Dangers To Remove Remains Of War

A small group of Cambodians — some of whom only recently learned to swim — is doing zero-visibility dives to rid the country’s waters of bombs. Photographer Charles Fox has documented their journey in an incredible new photo series that beautifully captures these unexploded ordnance divers trying to make their nation a safer place.

Decades of conflict in Cambodia have made it one of the most densely mined countries in the world. The country has worked hard to eliminate these threats, with numerous groups clearing Cambodia of mines and significantly reducing the death rate from these weapons in recent decades.

It’s not just the land that is filled with unexploded bombs, but the waters as well. To combat that problem, the Cambodian Mine Action Center and Golden West Humanitarian Foundation formed the nation’s first elite salvage dive team tasked with clearing rivers of unexploded ordnance, or UXO.

Fox started photographing the unit after seeing a small item in the local news. He got to know the nine members as he documented their progress.

“Most of them couldn’t swim at the beginning, and none of them had ever dived before,” he told The WorldPost.

The divers face dark, difficult conditions and the hazards that come with handling unexploded ordnance. “If that UXO goes off in the water there’s very little chance they’ll survive,” Fox said. But despite the risks, the divers approach the job with a humble dedication.

“They haven’t changed, they’re just still these really down to earth guys who do an incredibly dangerous job,” he said. “This group of guys who couldn’t even swim volunteered to do this work and two years down the line, they’re pulling stuff out of the river.”

The team this week led a search that uncovered a 500-pound bomb left over from the Vietnam war.

Fox was awarded a space at the Brunei Gallery in London to exhibit his work in July. He’s currently raising money on Kickstarter to pay for making the prints for that show and for an exhibit that will take place in Phnom Penh, where the divers will get a first proper look at the images of their success.

Read more about the project here and see Fox’s website for more of his work.

“Night of the Clipper”: “In the Aftermath of One of the Nation’s Worst Air Disasters, One Passenger Remains.”

“Night of the Clipper” is a ghostly story of mystery, action, suspense, and even budding romance centered in the small town of Elkton, Maryland. The date is December, 2013, and young Douglas Pledger and his family are newcomers to the neighborhood, after having moved to escape the bustle of the big city, and for his father, Rick Pledger, to begin a new law practice. For Douglas, confused and frustrated over having to leave his former home and friends, what should be a new beginning for this now-lonely ninth grader is just the beginning of strange and mysterious events that, initially, only he experiences. Douglas’ sister Marcy, his father Rick and his mother Rachel become gravely concerned with his sudden change in behavior. It isn’t until Douglas enlists the help of former firefighter, Dave Holt, Dave’s dog Gretchen and Dr. Celeste Creeley from Villanova University that the truth surrounding Douglas’ ghostly encounters becomes clear, after which the only question is, “What now?” Marcy, Rick and Rachel also become deeply involved as answers become known. For Dave Holt, a former fire fighter’s haunted past is awakened as he and Douglas become close friends. For Dave’s faithful dog, Gretchen, her uncanny instincts will help move the action in the most chilling ways as she helps guide the others to important clues. Celeste Creeley will be met with a realization she would never have anticipated before leaving her home in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania, to travel to Elkton at Dave Holt’s invitation as the dynamic background story requires her presence there. Douglas’ sister Marcy, father, Rick, and mother, Rachel, will make a shocking transition from disbelievers to unwilling participants in a bizarre series of events as the action unfolds. Elkton CID detective Ed Neevers is initially on the outside looking in as the actions of the other characters present an entirely different picture, where his law enforcement responsibilities require that he begin to investigate the st
