Child’s Play Remake in the Works From IT Producers

MGM is said to be developing a Child’s Play remake with the producers behind Stephen King’s IT.

THR reports MGM is fast-tracking the film, with production set to begin in September. IT’s David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith will produce.

Polaroid director Lars Klevberg is set to helm the remake from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury 2). A release date has not been set yet.

The Child’s Play franchise centers on a toy doll named Chucky that becomes possessed by the soul of a serial killer.

A Child’s Play TV series is also reportedly in development from franchise creator Don Mancini and franchise producer David Kirschner. The series is said to be a continuation of the existing story rather than a reboot.

Free Demo for Horror RPG Pathologic Remake Released

In preparation for the Pathologic remake’s launch later this year, developer Ice-Pick Lodge has released a free “several-hour-long” standalone demo called Pathologic: The Marble Nest, which you can download now on Steam.

Check out a trailer for The Marble Nest below, which, like the demo, aims to introduce players to the “strange town, destroyed by an ungodly plague” at the center of Pathologic’s story.

Pathologic, the surreal psychological horror adventure from Russian-based studio Ice-Pick Lodge, gained something of a cult following when it launched back in 2005. Combining elements from several genres, such as horror, adventure, survival, and RPGs, Pathologic gave players 12 in-game days to explore a town plagued by a mysterious disease.

‘The Lion King’ Remake Has A New Simba

Back in September, Disney announced plans to create a remake of its animated classic “The Lion King.” This time around, director Jon Favreau will likely use CGI animation to create a circle of life that looks much more realistic than it did in the 1994 version.

Disney is currently rebooting many of the music-filled movies that dominated previous generations’ childhoods ― including “Beauty and the Beast,” “Cinderella,” “Pete’s Dragon” and “The Jungle Book,” which Favreau also directed.

In very 2016 fashion, Favreau used emojis to reveal his involvement in the new movie on Twitter:

Last night, Favreau tweeted more details about the project, finally revealing that Donald Glover will play Simba and James Earl Jones will reclaim the role of the patriarch, Mufasa.

Glover is becoming reboot royalty. He just landed the role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo “Star Wars” movie. Of course, Disney now owns the rights to that franchise as well.

Glover’s two Golden Globe wins earlier this year, for the creation and lead acting role in his new show, “Atlanta,” are contributing to the young actor’s rise.

Jones, meanwhile, has voiced Mufasa multiple times since he first lent his talents to the original Disney movie. His voice appears in a “Lion King” video game, short side clips, and the sequels “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride” and “The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar.”

The actor also recently reprised his speaking role as the villainous Darth Vader in Disney’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

Hopefully Jones and Glover can pull off a father-son dynamic in “The Lion King” that has less of an underlying dark side than the one in “Star Wars.”

It remains unclear when the new version of “The Lion King” will finally debut.

Federico Fellini’s ‘La Dolce Vita’ Getting A Remake Is Proof We’ve Gone Too Far

Clearly the film industry has run out of any and all good, original ideas. Sadly, the unstoppable remake machine is about to touch a cinematic classic.

On Thursday, AMBI Group announced plans to remake Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita.” The company has reached an agreement with the Italian director’s family and estate to make a modern retelling of the 1960 film. The filmmaker’s niece, Francesca Fellini, said in a statement that while the family has been approached about remakes and sequels before, AMBI Group’s Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi changed their minds.

The original “La Dolce Vita” follows Marcello Mastroianni’s gossip journalist over a week traveling through Rome. In a statement, Iervolino said that the contemporary remake of the film will be “every bit as commercial, iconic and award-worthy as the original.” We can’t help but wonder one thing, though: Why?

With nearly every movie being remade, adapted into a musical, reworked for a sequel, revamped for a modern interpretation or rebooted for the small screen, nothing is safe these days. Nope, not even a Palme d’Or-winning, influential Fellini classic. While there are some noteworthy and partially original recreations in the works, like Paul Feig’s all-female “Ghostbusters” and Netflix’s clever take on a “Wet Hot American Summer” prequel – it takes us back to the first day of Camp Firewood – the majority of other remakes are simply unnecessary.

What’s next, a “Citizen Kane” remake? Hey, why don’t we turn Ingmar Bergman’s filmography into a musical web series? What about a reboot of Gus Van Sant’s shot-for-shot “Psycho” remake? Brilliant!

This Lego Remake Of ‘The Matrix’ Lobby Scene Changes The Entire Trilogy

The lobby shootout scene in “The Matrix” is one of the most iconic sequences in the Wachowskis’ 1999 film. There are endless guns, one-armed handstands and Trinity crawling up walls like a boss. YouTube user Snooperking decided to create a shot-for-shot Lego remake of the entire scene, and the results are nothing short of awesome.

Snooperking, who also did a Lego remake of the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer last November, said on Reddit that the entire “Matrix” project took about 160 hours total over three months. He also made two behind-the-scenes videos, revealing that one six-second shot took him “over an hour and a half to film and [edit in] Photoshop.”

The Lego remake is spot-on, but Snooperking throws in a huge surprise at the end. We’ll just say that it changes everything about “The Matrix” franchise (for the better?). Watch Neo and Trinity shoot up the lobby Lego-style above and the original scene below.
