Tennis Player Banned From French Open After Forcibly Kissing Reporter On Live TV

French tennis player Maxime Hamou has been banned from the duration of 2017’s French Open for kissing a female reporter without her consent on live television.

After losing to Pablo Cuevas during a match on Monday, 21-year-old Hamou was interviewed by Eurosport reporter Maly Thomas. During the 45-second interview, Hamou repeatedly wrapped his arm around Thomas’s neck and pulled her towards him in order to kiss her cheek and ear. Thomas ― knowing she was on live TV ― attempted to laugh it off and escape Hamou’s grip. Despite Thomas’ obvious protest, Hamou continued to grab and kiss her.

Watch the full interview below:

On Tuesday, Thomas told HuffPost France that the interview was “frankly unpleasant.”

“If I hadn’t been live on air, I would have punched him,” she added.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) announced on Tuesday that Hamou will be banned from the duration of the tournament because of his actions.

“The leadership of the tournament has decided to remove the accreditation of Maxime Hamou, following his reprehensible behavior with a (female) journalist, yesterday, Monday, May 29,” the federation said in a statement

A few hours after FFT released their statement, Hamou posted an apology to Instagram

“I would like to offer my deepest apologies to Maly Thomas if she felt hurt or shocked by my behavior during her interview,” Hamou wrote. “I just spent a wonderful week here at Roland Garros, living my most beautiful emotions as a tennis player, and I let my overflow of enthusiasm express itself awkwardly toward Maly, who I know and who I sincerely respect. Nothing of what is written was my intention. I am available to her to present my apologies in person if she would like. I still learn every day from my mistakes to become a better tennis player and a better person.”

In a statement released Tuesday, Eurosport condemned Hamou’s behavior as “highly inappropriate,” adding that “Maly is a highly respected journalist and we are pleased that a full apology is being offered.”

Blake Lively Goes Off On Reporter Who Asks About Her ‘Power Outfit’

Blake Lively was having none of the status-quo red carpet sexism while attending Variety’s Power of Women event Friday.

The actress, who is one of Variety’s honorees, was answering questions on the red carpet at New York City’s Cipriani when she was asked about her go-to “power outfit” by a female reporter, according to the New York Daily News.

“Come on, you want to talk about an outfit today?” she asked. “Come on, what about building women up? Outfits? Would you ask a man that? … You wouldn’t ask a man what a power outfit was. I’m sorry.”

A Twitter video from the moment shows Lively telling the reporter it’s time to learn ― and change.

Back in January, Lively joined the Women’s March in New York City to help be a face for the movement. She has been vocal about championing women’s rights, for herself, for her daughters and for complete strangers.

When it comes to raising her children, she is conscious about pushing back against Hollywood’s beauty standards

“We have really unrealistic beauty standards and beauty norms,” Lively told Refinery29 in February. “What you’re seeing on red carpets and in magazines takes a lot of effort and a lot of people. People don’t understand that it’s all very constructed. What little girls are seeing isn’t what [these celebrities] look like when they wake up in the morning — even though it’s no less beautiful.”

The Hollywood Reporter Asked 7 White Guys To Talk About Diversity In Animation

The Hollywood Reporter brings together A-listers and industry veterans for thought-provoking conversations around awards season every year to give all of us watching at home a seat at the proverbial roundtable.

But for some reason, the media outlet thought the best candidates to engage in a much-needed discussion about diversity in animation were seven white guys, drawing ire across social media for the complete and total absence of diversity

Byron Howard, Garth Jennings, Travis Knight, Mike Mitchell, John Musker, and Mark Osborne and Seth Rogen, who are responsible for such films like “Zootopia,” “Moana,” and “Sing,” sat down earlier this week to talk “avoiding ethnic stereotypes” and trying to “break the mold” of princesses.

The conversation was essentially facepalm central given the many worthy non-white and female animators working in the industry today who were not included. Even when acknowledging the importance of accurately representing different cultures on screen, the group fell into the very same traps of cultural insensitivity and bias they claim to avoid in their films.

Rogen later acknowledged the irony of having the “white male take on ethnic stereotypes and sexism” in a tweet after the roundtable was published, joking that he was “Proud to break new ground.”

Read some excerpts from the conversation below:

John Musker on directing “Moana”:

“We had the challenge in ‘Moana’ of dealing with this culture that we were really outsiders to in a way. I knew something about the South Pacific just from a distance, reading books set there and seeing paintings by Paul Gauguin and that sort of thing … So we cobbled together a story and pitched it to John and he said, ‘This is great, but you’ve got to dig deeper, do more research.’ So we were forced to go to Tahiti and Samoa and Fiji.”

“It was an added challenge that we didn’t have when we did ‘Aladdin.’ Our research on ‘Aladdin,’ it was during the first Gulf War, so for our research, we went to the L.A. Convention Center, where there was a Saudi Arabian expo.”

Mark Osborne on developing “Kung Fu Panda”:

“That’s pretty good. On ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ we just Googled China. That was as far as we could go.”

Seth Rogen on the backlash to Salma Hayek’s taco character in “Sausage Party”:

“You know, our movie is directly about racial stereotypes and how religion divides us and how our beliefs divide us and how we look different divides us and how we speak different divides us. And at the same time, as a lover of Disney animated movies, we took a lot of cues from those types of movies.”

Social media immediately took issue with the makeup of the roundtable, expressing their frustration toward the media outlet for not including a single person of color or woman in the conversation.
