Girl Scout Writes Hilariously Honest Reviews For Cookies She’s Selling

Sixth-grader Charlotte McCourt is nothing if not an honest saleswoman.

While selling Girl Scout cookies, the 11-year-old from South Orange, New Jersey emailed some hilariously honest “reviews” of the products to one of her potential buyers. Charlotte’s dad, Sean McCourt, shared the email with television personality Mike Rowe, whose podcast he produces.

Rowe loved the little girl’s brutal honesty and read the letter out loud for his fans on Facebook.

As Rowe explains in the video, the letter came about after Sean mentioned to Charlotte that his best friend from high school is “very rich.” The enterprising little girl took it upon herself to email the friend to ask if he’d like to buy some cookies or donate a few boxes to men and women serving in the military.

In her pitch, Charlotte noted that she feels the Girl Scouts organization sometimes use “false advertising” to sell cookies. For the sake of being honest with her clients, she reviewed each type of cookie and assigned ratings on a scale of one to 10.

Though Charlotte praised the “inspired” flavor combination in Thin Mints and the Savannah Smiles “divine taste,” she dismissed Do-si-dos for their “unoriginality” and “blandness” and said Trefoils were “kind of boring.”

In her most scathing review, she wrote that the Toffee-tastic “is a bleak, flavorless gluten-free wasteland. I’m telling you, it is flavorless as dirt.”

Still, the little girl cautioned, “These ratings are only my opinion. Yours may vary.”

Rowe shared a link to Charlotte’s cookie-selling website with his video, which reached over eight million views.

Following Rowe’s shout-out, Charlotte’s sales skyrocketed, and she quickly surpassed her goal to sell 300 boxes. As of Jan. 27, she’d sold over 11,000.

She sent Rowe a video message updating him on her progress and thanking him and everyone who bought cookies.

As Charlotte noted in her initial email, she’s a member of Troop 22918, “a minuscule but mighty troop of five people.”

With cookie sales like those, “mighty” is certainly accurate.

Soundcast Reviews: Any Time with Vin Forte & Comedy Film Nerds

2016-11-20-1479672070-150276-anytime.jpegAny Time with Vin Forte
Epi34: I Should Not Have This Power”
[Guest: Daniel Kibblesmith]

Vin Forte snags some very interesting guests for his Any Time with Vin Forte soundcast. Recent examples: Director of Photography for Netflix’ Luke Cage series Manuel Billeter, A Carlin Home Companion author Kelly Carlin, and Brian Stack, a wrier/performer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The current drop, Episode 34, invites in one of Stack’s compadres, Daniel Kibblesmith, a fellow writer on Colbert’s CBS nighttime show.

Kibblesmith describes his interesting path through the comedy writing world, starting out writing funny copy for Groupon before moving onto The Onion, which led to helping to jumpstart the offshoot and equally phony news-based Clickhole website and then BuzzFeed.

Forte starts things off having Kibblesmith get into the surreal experience that was Colbert’s live election night edition on Showtime, where the atmosphere got odder and odder as the results came in and it was becoming clear that Donald Trump was going to be next up in the Big Chair.

There is a lot of delicious delving into the nuts and bolts of Kibblesmith’s philosophy of how “world-building” is an essential nugget to create comedy around. As a guy who has written a lot of easily digestible comedy, Kibblesmith comes across as well-anchored and analytical, with a dry delivery that belies the sorts of laughs his material elicits. He’s even been putting his stamp on a new medium, writing for Valiant comics.

The episode is an entertaining peek behind a number of scenes where comedy is made.

Epi344: Dr. Strange with Kevin Pollak

Kevin Pollak (Misery Loves Comedy, Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show) makes a return to Comedy Film Nerds with Graham Elwood and Chris Mancini to join them in discussing and non-spoiling deconstruction of the newest entry into the Marvel movie universe, Dr. Strange.

The show kicks off with a recap of Game 7 of the World Series, as Elwood had been over to Pollak’s house to view the historic occasion, but then the trio quickly wades into the business of the movie at hand. The two hosts enjoyed the movie, including the fact it was shot in 3D (instead of just having 3D tacked onto a 2D movie.) To be clear, Elwood and Mancini wax on about the movie. Pollak abstains, as he’s not only not seen Dr. Strange, but starting from a place where he has little or no knowledge of the Marvel comics and then a dislike for the “Disney-fication” of the properties, he launches in a great rant about how the movies offer little of substance.

He points out that those who are lured in by the visuals-without-heart have been “sucked into the Matrix.” Pollak, having directed films (including this year’s direct-to-Amazon The Late Bloomer, about an adult male who goes through a late puberty due to a medical condition), has become a discriminating consumer of movies. He sounds dismayed as he answers the question, “What’s the last film you through was really great.” He begs for time to think, as he points out that he leaves the theater mostly giving an “It was okay,” summation to films these days.

Pollak’s humor, sharply barbed as ever, really adds to the conversation, continuing on through the show’s trademark look at trailers from upcoming films.

The “People Power” Family Superbook: Book 13. Shopping Guide (Online Shopping, Product Reviews, Department Stores, Trade Shows, Closeout – Wholesale, Factory Outlets)

In my opinion, unless you’re a total introvert, agoraphobic, disabled or too lazy to leave the house, your best bet to buy most things you need is locally. Go to the Yellow Pages, read your local newspapers, drive around the shopping areas, go to local free ad websites and talk to people you know about what you need. I generally buy most of my stuff from the big department stores but if I need something like furniture, I’ll check out the furniture stores on the poor side of the town because the prices for the same goods are often much cheaper than a store in the higher class part of town plus you can often haggle with the owner on a cash deal. By shopping on the poor side of town at supermarkets for food, you can often save several dollars on a load of groceries. Beyond that, I generally go to the thrift stores a few times a year to buy t-shirts, clothes and anything else that strikes my fancy as I look around.
