‘Fashion Police’ Returns In August With Melissa Rivers As Co-Host

After the death of Joan Rivers, losing two co-hosts and a whole lot of drama, “Fashion Police” will return this August with Melissa Rivers, reports Variety.

E! announced that veteran co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski will also return to the show, kicking off the first episode with coverage of the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 31. The new season will feature the trio of co-hosts, as well as two other rotating celebrity guests in each episode.

Back in March, E! announced the show was going on hiatus after co-hosts Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin left the series. The former co-hosts exited amid drama surrounding Rancic’s offensive remarks about actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks during a post-Oscars episode of “Fashion Police.”

On the show, Rancic said Zendaya’s dreadlocks made her look as if she smelled “like patchouli oil” or “weed,” though it was later confirmed that the co-host’s remarks were edited, and that she was making a reference to “hippie culture.”

Melissa Rivers Is Set to Host Fashion Police

After turbulent times at Fashion Police following the September passing of Joan Rivers, it looks like the seas are finally settling. Joan’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, is set to join the show and will be taping her first episodes at the end of August.

melissa-and-joan-rivers

“Melissa’s going on. The idea actually came from her, [and] the bosses like it,” a source told the New York Daily News. “It’ll be a tribute to her mom, and Melissa’s the one who understands how it’s done. She can pull it off.”

Melissa is set to record six episodes, with no official word on when the shows will start airing. In lieu of permanent cohosts, different celebrities will sit alongside Rivers on each episode. The set is also reportedly going to get a redesign.

After a widely publicized hunt for an original replacement (including rumors swirling around The Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Nene Leakes), Kathy Griffin was announced as the official heir. Flash forward three months and Griffin turned in her resignation letter, saying, “I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance toward difference… I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show, and now it’s time to move on.” The month prior, Kelly Osbourne left, reportedly due to Giuliana Rancic’s red carpet hair gaffe with Zendaya.

The Year of the Angler and the Year of the Trout: Tales of Fly Fishing, Rivers, the Environment, and Life

The Year of the Angler and the Year of the Trout: Tales of Fly Fishing, Rivers, the Environment, and Life

The Year of the Angler and The Year of the Trout have long been underground classics, the kind of books used-book sellers can’t keep in stock, the ones its owners won’t loan out. Now they’re back in print, under one cover.Arnold Gingrich, the fly-fishing maven and editor of Esquire, ranked Steve Raymond with the great fishing writers, and Gingrich knew writers and good writing. So great is its reputation, that a copy of The Year of the Angler was presented to the White House by the American Booksellers Association.Raymond fishes Western waters, particularly the Northwest. Here are accounts of adventures on the Hoh, the Duwamish, the North Fork of the Stillaguamish, the Hanford Reach of the Columbia, Pass Lake, and Columbia Basin Pond. Here, too, are affectionate portraits of the great fish of those waters, the sea-run cutthroat, salmon, steelhead, rainbow, and brown trout. And solid advice on catching them. Raymond tells stories, too, of men like John Huelsdonk, the Iron Man of the Hoh, who killed one hundred cougars. As much as it is a book about fish and rivers, it is also a book about life, about the passage of time, the seasons, man and his place in the environment, family, pain and pleasure. Truly a classic, The Year of the Angler and the Year of the Trout will find a place on every serious angler’s shelf, if only to replace one imprudently loaned to a friend. The Year of the Angler and The Year of the Trout have long been underground classics, the kind of books used-book sellers can''t keep in stock, the ones its owners won''t loan out. Joan Rivers Death Investigation Says Clinic Made Multiple Errors During Medical Procedure

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York City clinic where Joan Rivers suffered a fatal complication during a medical procedure made several errors, including failing to keep proper medication records and snapping cellphone photos of her while she was unconscious, state health investigators said Monday.

Rivers, who was 81, died Sept. 4. New York City’s medical examiner found she died of brain damage due to lack of oxygen after she stopped breathing during an endoscopy days earlier.

A report released by the state Department of Health on Monday cited Yorkville Endoscopy for numerous deficiencies related to the Rivers case, although negligence is not alleged. The comedian’s death was classified as a therapeutic complication.

As a result of the state investigation, the federal Department of Health and Human Services has given Yorkville Endoscopy until Jan. 7 to correct deficiencies to avoid losing Medicare accreditation.

In a statement to NBC News on Monday, Yorkville said it has submitted a plan to state and federal accreditation agencies addressing all issues raised. It said the physicians referenced in the report no longer provide services there.

The state report said the Manhattan clinic “failed to identify deteriorating vital signs and provide timely intervention” in Rivers’ case.

Investigators found conflicting information in Rivers’ medical records regarding the amount of the sedation drug Propofol she was administered and about the time resuscitation was initiated. They also faulted the clinic for allowing a surgeon who was not a member of the medical staff to perform two nose and throat scoping procedures.

Investigators also noted that a staff member took cellphone photos of Rivers and a surgeon while she was under anesthesia without her consent and in violation of the facility’s cellphone policy.

This Is What Joan Rivers Hoped Her Funeral Would Look Like

Joan Rivers accomplished an incredible amount in her life, and it was apparent that she was always thinking of what was next to come.

As a woman of very particular tastes, Rivers knew exactly how she hoped her funeral would be when the day came, and she wrote about it in her 2012 book, “I Hate Everyone … Starting with Me.”

She was also a woman who loved the death reel at the Oscars:

A good death reel can almost compensate for five hours of French actors trying to make adorable acceptance speeches. One of my favorite things to do is guess which of the dead actors will get the most applause and who’s going to be surprisingly underappreciated. It’s tricky you can’t always tell. Some years the most applause go to whoever died young and tragically; other years it goes to the old and beloved. I really love it when the Academy leaves a deadie out of the reel and the error of omission becomes a huge cause célèbre. Remember a few years ago when they left Bea Arthur out of the death reel [at the Oscars]? Bea Arthur! How did they leave Bea Arthur out? She was in “Mame;” she was in “All in the Family;” she was in “Maude;” she was a “Golden Girl,” for God’s sake! Bea was not only one of Hollywood’s leading ladies, she was one of Hollywood’s leading men! There are still people talking about that horrible gaffe and to this day, in Beverly Hills, when the subject comes up, people say Bea Arthur’s name in a muffled whisper like they used to do when they said “cancer.”

Rivers died on Sept. 4 at the age of 81 following complications from a procedure on her vocal cords. Her actual funeral is planned for Sept. 7 at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan, the temple’s spokeswoman Elizabeth Fezrine told CNN. Details, including the time and if the public will be invited to attend, are not known at this time.

Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work (blu-ray Disc)

Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work (blu-ray Disc)

Joan Rivers launched her career as a standup comic in the early ’60s, a time when female comedians were few and far between, and after several years of working nightclubs to unresponsive audiences, she was booked on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1965 and soon became one of the most successful comedy acts in the nation. Since then, Rivers has hosted several TV talk shows, written best-selling books, directed a feature film, launched a line of jewelry, and kept up a busy schedule of personal appearances, determined to hold on to her stardom regardless of the fickle winds of show business. Filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg followed Rivers through a typically eventful year in her life, and in Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, they offer a look at the woman behind the laughter as she struggles to stay in the spotlight, works on new material, launches a one-woman show in the United Kingdom that doesn’t fare as well as she hopes, takes a chance as a participant on a reality TV show, and ponders her career in show business at the age of 75. Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work received its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
