While some girls dream of looking like a princess, this girl dreamed of making that wish come true for young cancer patients.
Charlie Tillotson, 6, of Sidmouth, England, had never gotten a haircut, and was passionate about protecting her long, golden locks, according to the Daily Star.
“She has always wanted to grow it as long as Rapunzel,” her father said.
However, after watching a T.V. show about kids battling cancer, Charlie was inspired to chop off her locks for Little Princess Trust, an organization that donates wigs to young cancer patients. She also decided to raise money for Children With Cancer U.K. — a charity that aims to help children and teenagers fight cancer — through a fundraising page that her father helped her set up.
Charlie’s father, Steve Tillotson, said he was moved by his daughter’s request.
“She came up to me … and said, ‘Daddy, would you mind if I had all my hair cut off for children with cancer?'” Tillotson told the Sidmouth Herald. “I welled up.“
Her haircut took 2 feet off her total length of hair, and will be made into a wig for a child with cancer, according to Metro. While the cut took place two weeks ago, Charlie has already said she wants to do it all over again once her hair has grown back, and bring a smile to another child’s face, the Daily Star reported.
Her fundraiser was also successful. Tillotson said he and his daughter originally set a goal of raising 600 British pounds (about $ 1,010) through their Just Giving page. The fundraiser more than doubled their goal, bringing in more than 1300 pounds (about $ 2,200).
Charlie’s good deeds did not go unnoticed. The town of Sidmouth is rewarding her by giving her a true princess treatment. Charlie will get her own float at the Sidmouth carnival, as well as a ball gown and tiara, according to the Sidmouth Herald.
