Outerwear Brand Bacon Creates Capsule for Saks Fifth Avenue

Customers into cozy, fashionable puffer jackets have yet another option to choose from.
Italian contemporary outerwear brand Bacon — which already lists Gigi Hadid among its fans — has unveiled a small capsule collection with luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue.
The brand’s signature women’s “Puffa” style jacket was reinterpreted in two exclusive colorways: red and blue. The cropped jacket, retailing at $ 615, boasts an exaggerated collar and a tie detail.
Additional styles and dedicated colorways will be added to the capsule early next year, strengthening the tie-up with the U.S. department store.

“We want to shift the customers’ perspective on down jackets and we are really focused on trying to evolve the silhouettes. After a few seasons of oversized shapes, we’re gently shifting toward more refined styles, without giving up our rock soul,” said founder and ceo Andrea Pilato Barrara.
The brand delivers fall duvet coats for women featuring oversized proportions and in a number of bright colors informed by the Nineties aesthetic. Saks Backs New York Times, Sacai ‘Truth’ Capsule With Window

The New York Times is getting bit more fashionable.
With a small collaboration with Sacai, which created for fall a T-shirt and hoodie featuring the paper’s “Truth” campaign that rolled out last year after the President Trump-led advent of public figures labeling any unfriendly news story “fake news,” the Times’ mission is getting its own window display at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Although the small collection gives Saks the opportunity to participate in the trendy “drop” concept by releasing a capsule along with the window reveal, Yumi Shin, general merchandising manager of Saks, said there was a little more to wanting the collaboration.
“We felt Saks is an iconic New York department store and The New York Times is an iconic New York publisher and we wanted to get behind the capsule,” Shin said. “We feel that Sacai is such a creative brand and is super authentic in its approach and the message is very relevant today, so we wanted to support it.”
Steve Mayne, executive director of commerce at the Times, said the paper was “thrilled” to work with Sacai, which includes a licensing agreement, not least because it “was an excellent opportunity to amplify the message” of the Truth campaign.

Saks Elevates DiGiacomo to Men’s GMM

Saks Fifth Avenue has a new chief men’s merchant and it’s a familiar face.
Louis DiGiacomo, a 22-year veteran who most recently served as divisional merchandise manager of footwear, accessories and men’s private brands, has been promoted to general merchandise manager of men’s wear for the upscale retailer.
He succeeds Tom Ott, who last month was named chief merchant of Saks Off 5th and Gilt, which, along with Saks Fifth Avenue, are divisions of Hudson’s Bay Co.
At Saks, DiGiacomo will report to Tracy Margolies, the retailer’s chief merchant.
In his more than two-decade career at the store, DiGiacomo has held a variety of positions. He began his career as an executive trainee in 1995 and has since served in positions including assistant buyer for home and gifts; assistant buyer, men’s designer sportswear; planner and buyer in men’s sportswear; and dmm of men’s, home and gifts.
Saks’ men’s division has been in a state of flux this summer with Ott moving over to Off 5th and Gilt and men’s fashion director Eric Jennings being let go. Shawn Howell, who had overseen luxury collections for Saks, also went over to Off 5th and Gilt as dmm of contemporary collections in June.

Saks, Sony Team Up With ‘The Emoji Movie’

EMOJI MOMENT: “We love partnering with of-the-moment pop culture experiences,” said John Antonini, director of stores, New York Metro, at Saks Fifth Avenue, who was standing on the red carpet outside the Saks flagship Monday night. He was pointing to “The Emoji Movie” windows that were installed along 50th Street — so appropriate, considering it was World Emoji Day. “They really bring emojis to life,” he said.
“Anytime we can bring technology into the windows is exciting,” he added, pointing out that customers can interact, play and dance with the emojis.
Saks has partnered with brands such as Jason Wu, Mackage, Del Toro Footwear, Orlebar Brown, Gents and Havianas to create “The Emoji Movie” merchandise, ranging from swimsuits and bomber jackets to sweaters (with removable emojis) and flip-flops.
“The Emoji Movie,” which opens July 28, has a pop-up on the fifth floor in the Collective, and items are scattered throughout the store in both the New York flagship and Beverly Hills store. The merchandise is geared to men, women and children.

Saks Opens Traveling Pop-up Shop for North Sails in Miami

MIAMI — Saks Fifth Avenue christened its wholesale partnership with North Sails Collection with a pop-up at its new Brickell City Centre store in Miami. The shop, which will be housed on the store’s third level during the month of March, will then travel to the retailer’s Union Square store in San Francisco in May, followed by Manhattan’s Brookfield Place in July.
North Sails’ foray into U.S. wholesale — it operates freestanding stores in New York; Annapolis, Md.; and Newport, R.I. — coincides with the 52 Super Series Miami Royal Cup regatta, which runs through March 11, when top local clients are invited to be in the center of the action on a spectator boat.
“Guys are interested in pop-ups and an elevated shopping experience, and we’re putting a lot of effort into them,” said Tom Ott, senior vice president and general merchandise manager for men’s wear at Saks Fifth Avenue, of the afternoon outing on Biscayne Bay, which he believes will appeal to Miamians’ outdoor lifestyle, sailor or not. “Once you do these experiential events, customers become loyal and excited about the brick-and-mortar experience.”

Blame it on the new year, the changing of the guard in Washington or the first real winter storm of the season, but taking flight was a recurring theme for many of the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star nominees at a warm-up party Wednesday night at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Beauty Entrepreneur contenders Isabel and Ruben Toledo were stranded in Spain en route back from vacation. Florida-bound snowbirds can find their new uniform creations at the Bjarke Ingels-designed Grove at Grand Bay in Coconut Grove. Women’s wear contestant Alejandra Alonso Rojas, a fourth-generation designer, planned to fly to Madrid Thursday to shoot her look book in the house that her great grandparents moved into in 1915. “My main inspiration is the women in my family, so I want to keep it very close to home in terms of branding, the location and the technique I’ve learned from them.” All of the rivals in her category — Claudia Li, Jeffrey Dodd, Ji Oh, Protagonist’s Georgia Lazzaro, Romeo Hunte New York’s Romeo Hunte and Wai Ming’s Emily Brady Koplar — made it to the flagship. There Saks’ triumvirate of Marc Metrick, Tracy Margolies and Roopal Patel were unquestionably a welcome site.

Saks Fifth Avenue Dedicates Windows to Fern Mallis

SAKS CELEBRATES MALLIS: Saks Fifth Avenue is putting Fern Mallis in the spotlight by dedicating 16 of its streetfront windows — including all of the Fifth Avenue ones — to her new book “Fashion Icons.” Drawing from her “Fashion Icons” conversations at 92Y with the likes of Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs, the Rizzoli-published tome will be stacked up in the displays with select mannequins adorned in designer attire from each of her respective subjects.
