Martin Grant Leaps Into Men’s Wear Amid Shift in Collections Calendar

PARIS — Martin Grant, whose razor-sharp tailoring has earned him fans including Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Connelly, is launching a capsule collection for men as part of a broader plan to switch the focus away from his main women’s collection and toward the pre-collection seasons.
Grant is set to unveil the men’s line, featuring between 15 and 20 designs, during presentations at his Paris showroom between Jan. 17 and 24.
Starting in July, the Australian designer, whose last catwalk show was held in October 2015, will resume runway presentations during Paris Couture Week showcasing his men’s designs alongside his women’s pre-fall collections and a smattering of couture.
He will present a few additions to the pre-collection to coincide with the main women’s ready-to-wear shows in March and October, but will no longer produce separate collections. Grant said the decision made sense, as pre-collections now account for 80 percent of his business.
“Logistically it’s much better for us, because it’s what the buyers want anyhow,” he told WWD during an exclusive preview of the men’s collection. “They’re putting all of their budget into the pre-collections, because they need the time to sell. For us, concentrating on that season gives us a longer lead time to develop the

6 Ways to Shift Your Mindset to a Whole New Level

Have you ever felt frustrated or discouraged in your life or career? Does it seem like everyone else is moving faster toward their goals and dream life and with more ease than you are?
Sure you have had some success, but every time you have a win, backwards you go again. You’re probably thinking what is going on here? Why do I struggle so much?

And the answer is simple: Your belief system and subconscious mind needs reprogramming.

Your belief system is stored in the subconscious mind, created from childhood moments where you were taught someone else’s beliefs, or where you decided that this was the way your life is going to be. This programming runs in the background most of the time. Your conscious adult mind is competing with it, constantly!

So now you know why, when you want to bring something into your life that does not already exist in it, your body and mind get distracted, fearful, start comparing and self-sabotaging. Emotions come up or negative mind chatter takes over and you get stuck in a loop of your old programming like: I am not enough, Life is difficult, I will never find my soul mate, I am always in debt, I have to be perfect etc.

This subconscious programming does not want you to leave your comfort zone and it will do anything to make sure you stay there. It will sabotage your creativity, energy and even your health.

If you want to move past this programming so you can finally have the life and business you truly desire, you’ll have to face up to these old beliefs and start making some changes.

Here are six things you can do, right now to empower yourself and move closer to the life you deserve:

1. Allow, Don’t Judge
This isn’t just about judging your thoughts, this is about allowing them. What we resist persists. When you allow yourself to observe your thoughts, you create a space to manifest something that does not already exist. Allowing opens up the flow and creativity of new possibilities.

2. Ask Questions
We have been conditioned to not ask questions. For many, asking questions is a sign of weakness, embarrassing, wrong or it means you are a failure. Asking yourself the right questions instead of judging, opens up a space for you to receive new information that you may not have considered or allowed previously. Ask: What is possible here? What is good about this? What do I not know that I need to know to make this work beneficially in my life? How does it get any better than this?

The answers may not come immediately, and that’s okay. The point is you offered something different for your mind to focus on. What you ask, you shall receive.

3. Write It Down
Write down all the secrets about you that you do not want to reveal to anyone, not even yourself. This exercise will shine a light on everything that is in the way of your progress and will lessen its hold on you, allowing you to receive more of what you do want.

4. Visualize What You Want
Use visualization to see your worries and concerns, allow them to unfold in your mind’s eye without judgment. Thank them for showing you what is really going on.

Now ask your worries and concerns to bow out. You no longer need them. You got this!

Then play a new scene out in your mind of the success and life you desire. The subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between real and imagined, which is why this works.

5. Use Your Energy
Now this may seem a bit different, but you’ve probably heard the phrase, everything is energy, and that’s because it is. Here’s how to use that to your advantage: Using your hands, mind and words, pull the energy of what you want towards you.

Ask whatever it is you want in your life to come play with you. Look at this as a playful experiment!

If you are new to this, start with something small like butterflies or a particular book. Then use this for manifesting things that matter like: money, clients or happiness! Use your imagination and watch what happens.

6. Value Yourself
No one can ever value you more than you can. Make yourself and your life a priority. Set aside designated times to do something to propel yourself forward in life and create what you deserve and desire.

Commit to five days a week until it becomes a habit.

Only you will really know what needs to change, and only you can make those changes. In order to design and create something different, you have to do something different.

Make this self-discovery journey a fun adventure. Imagine you are digging for hidden treasure, the treasures within.

You may want to start with just one of these exercises and master it before adding a new one. These practices will build your confidence and chip away at the old patterns holding you back.
Be consistent and persistent. Everything takes time to manifest. Just as art or sculptures take time to bring into existence, the same is true with your life creations. Stick with it ’till your art piece is finished.

When you clear the programming and beliefs deep inside your mind, your life starts to flow with more joy and ease. Less effort will be required, as the struggle with yourself is gone. More opportunities are revealed, as there is no longer any limiting program in your way. You see them and grab them! Problems are solved right away, because you naturally become solution-oriented and more creative.

So now you are strong, confident inside and out, in your life or career.

God Bless the Night Shift

I went into an all night pharmacy recently, after getting off of work at 10 p.m. I had to pick up a prescription for my endless, insomnia-inducing cough. Walking up to the counter, I was bathed in the smell of cigarette smoke, carried on the coats of patrons. Eight of us stood by the counter, outnumbering the staff by 100 percent. I checked in and waited for my prescription to be filled. And in the eyes of the pharmacist and technicians, I saw exhaustion: physical and emotional.

It’s a 24/7/365 world out there, and nowhere is it more evident than in anything related to healthcare. It’s easy for me to think doctors are the most weary. But that’s arrogant poppycock. I’m only a cog in the great wheel. Pharmacies dispense medicine all night because people are sick and go to the hospital all night. Nurses comfort the sick and ambulances run all night long, in weather and situations that make even the postman shudder.

Furthermore, when it comes to safety, firefighters rescue the imperiled all night and police officers risk their lives and enforce the law at all hours. Power company workers repair lines and road workers keep highways flowing as rail workers run the trains on time and air traffic controllers watch the skies. And none of it stops at 5 p.m. Airmen, sailors, soldiers and marines keep watch all night as well, in dangerous and inhospitable places.

At Christmas, we sometimes forget that packages are moving across country while we sleep, driven by tired drivers and pilots, sorted by fatigued men and women in shipping departments. God bless them, people are processing orders and doing tech support all night by phone and computer. Many restaurants, especially the kind frequented by those listed above, prepare, serve and deliver food throughout the watches of the night. Gas stations, hotels and convenience stores are always open and staffed by the weary.

The list goes on and on. But the truth is, we have created a world in which some group of people always has to be awake at night. There’s really no going back to the time when the lights went off at 8 p.m and we were all in our beds waiting for the rooster to wake us to another rested, bucolic day of agrarian simplicity.

Anyone who has worked at night, for any length of time, knows the toll it takes. I have spent more than my share of nights awake, working in the ER. I’m proud of that. I have learned to power through, to make the right decisions. Nevertheless, a few long nights and I’m weary to the bone; I hurt all over and I feel dizzy. My 50-year-old body crying out for deep, restorative sleep. It’s not just me; studies on sleep deprivation paint a grim picture of the physical and mental problems associated with fatigue.

I knew what I was getting into as a doctor. But all too many people find themselves on nights, in industry or public service, because the new guy gets nights. And doesn’t get days until someone, or several someones, leaves or dies. Yes, it’s a job. They’re glad to have it. Certainly, too, some people just seem designed for nights. I’ve worked with them. They’re happiest working ‘third.’ They’re probably vampires.

On the balance, though, almost everyone would rather work in the daytime or evening. Not only because we feel lousy when we’re tired. But because there’s a magic to being home with the ones we love. Tucking the kids in bed, sleeping with our spouses, locking the doors and turning off the lights — those are gifts to treasure. It’s hard to replace those things with white noise, fans and blacked-out windows.

All of it is more pronounced during the holiday season. Admittedly, I sometimes enjoy the hospital at night, especially when it slows down and we can turn on a little music. And there is a beauty to driving to work in the darkness and coming home as the world wakes up. Still, it’s sweeter to be home with lights around the tree and Christmas movies on the television.

So perhaps this holiday season, and even after, everyone who doesn’t work at night could just be a little kinder and a little more sensitive to those who do. If you have to call someone out, give them a tip or a snack. If you order in a restaurant, be a little kinder, a little gentler. If the problem you have can wait until morning, let it. The men and women awake all night are there, yes, and it’s their job. But a slow night is a rare wonder.

And especially for all those who risk their lives at night to keep us safe, warm and comfortable, we should all say a special thanks and prayer for safety. Because being up all night is interesting, and sometimes profitable.

But it’s almost never preferable. And I speak from experience.
