Roland Mouret Shuts Town House Store on Madison Avenue

MOVING ON: Roland Mouret has shut his town house store at 1006 Madison Avenue as part of a wider reorganization of the business, which is streamlining and putting a greater focus on e-commerce, digital and wholesale.
Mouret opened the store, at 77th Street, in September 2016, having relocated from number 952 Madison Avenue. It spanned 1,937 square feet over the ground and mezzanine levels of the Twenties-era building.
“It’s the smallest town house on Madison — it’s unique,” the designer told WWD at the time, adding that he was proud to remain near to The Met Breuer, which focuses on the The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 20th and 21st century collections.
The setting was similar to Mouret’s London flagship, which is located in a red brick town house on Carlos Place, across from The Connaught hotel and just off Mount Street. In London, retail is on the ground floor with design studios and offices on the upper levels. The vast Carlos Place town house remains open.
As reported, Madison Avenue has been struggling with declining rents and high vacancies since the 2008 recession. According to research by Cushman & Wakefield, Madison Avenue availability rose to 27.8 percent at the end of the second quarter of

British Online Retailer Avenue 32 Shuts Operations

DEAD END: British online retailer Avenue 32, which sold contemporary women’s wear, has shut down, the company said Wednesday.
The business posted a message on its web site: “Goodbye…After 6 wonderful years, we have decided to focus on new projects and so, sadly, is now closed. Thank you for being such loyal customers. Orders placed before 11th August 2017 will be processed as normal and the returns period remains at 15 days from receiving your order.”
Launched in 2011 by chief executive officer Roberta Benteler, who had spent her career in private equity, Avenue 32 was backed by Germany’s Benteler Group, which makes steel tubes, components and systems for the auto industry.
Sources said the closure came down to financing as the company struggled to generate sales. Financials experts say it’s difficult for small online retailers to secure funding and financing nowadays: Not only do they have to show they are profitable, they are also facing competition from all directions. They have to compete with the big online luxury players such as, Moda Operandi,, Farfetch and, stand-alone brand sites and Instagram sellers.
One industry source speculated that the company’s failure also came down to customer acquisition, which is expensive.

Ben Affleck Shuts Down Rumors That He’s Leaving Batman During Superhero-sized Comic-Con Stop

The Batman has returned. To San Diego Comic-Con that is.

Ben Affleck, the film franchise’s current Caped Crusader, surprised 6,000 enthusiastic fans at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday with his fellow Justice League cast members, who made a dramatic entrance by walking through the crowd during Warner Bros’ star-studded panel in the convention center’s storied Hall H.

The Batman v Superman star, dressed casually in a t-shirt, jeans and a blue bomber jacket, was joined by Justice League costars: Wonder Woman Gal Gadot, Superman Henry Cavill, The Flash Ezra Miller, Aquaman Jason Momoa and Cyborg Ray Fisher.

Throughout the event, Affleck looked happy and relaxed — laughing off rumors that he was being “phased out” as the Caped Crusader and even dropping a few f-bombs.

“Batman is the coolest f—ing part in any universe, DC, Marvel,” Affleck said when he came onstage. “I’m so thrilled to do it.”

He went on to name the Warner Bros. executives who told him that they wanted him to stay on as Batman, adding, “I believe them.” He later added that he thought the rumors got started because he is no longer directing the upcoming Batman solo movie.

The group also introduced a new sneak peek of Justice League.

Ahead of the panel, Gadot shared a smiling selfie with Affleck, Miller and Fisher, in front of what appeared to be a private plane.

“Ready or not here we come,” she wrote.

This first Justice League film sees DC’s most iconic superheroes joining forces to save the world from an enigmatic threat. Affleck and Cavill return as Batman and the Man of Steel, Gadot makes her third appearance as Wonder Woman, while Miller’s The Flash and Momoa’s Aquaman are fully introduced as part of the League ahead of their solo films arriving in 2018. Joss Whedon took over directing duties from Zack Snyder following a family tragedy — his 20-year-old daughter Autumn’s suicide.

Tattooed Mom Shuts Down Suggestion That She’s Not The Motherhood ‘Type’

A U.K. mom’s viral Facebook post is dispelling the notion that mothers have to conform to a specific image.

Blogger Gylisa Jayne of Cornwall shared a photo of herself with her almost 2-year-old daughter, Lily. In the caption, she offered some powerful thoughts about what motherhood really means.

“Someone said to me a few days ago, that she hadn’t thought I was the type ‘to be a Mum,’ Jayne wrote, adding that she initially shrugged the comment off. However, the woman’s words bothered her days later.

“It’s one of those common phrases, we label ‘Mother’ and have a stereotype in our heads,” she said, noting that this label comes with standards beyond simply caring for your child. Jayne wrote:

Mothers are meant to sacrifice every aspect of themselves, to fulfill their role.

Mothers aren’t allowed expensive bags, or shopping trips out, or to have a fresh manicure every few weeks.

Mothers aren’t meant to have tattoos, or coloured hair or piercings.

Mothers aren’t supposed to have histories of being reckless, feckless or just plain fun.

Mothers aren’t meant to have had a colourful life of experiences before they bear children, they are expected to forget their identity to raise someone else.

However, the blogger highlighted the value of “experiencing a bit of life” before becoming a parent. “Without navigating my own chequered past how could I possibly hope to guide a new soul through similar times?” she asked.

Ultimately, Jayne explained that motherhood is not an “exclusive club” requiring all members to look or act a certain way.

Instead, she said the motherhood community is filled with women from countless different backgrounds who take different approaches to parenting.

“So I might not fit someone else’s expectations of how I should be, but my daughter reckons I’m doing a pretty good job,” she concluded.

Jayne told HuffPost the comment that prompted her to write the post came from an old friend she hadn’t seen in awhile but that it was representative of comments and looks she’s gotten from people in the past.

While many “alternative” moms reacted positively to the post’s message that looks and experiences don’t define a mother, some more traditional or “stereotypical” mom figures said they couldn’t relate as much, Jayne noted.

The blogger told HuffPost she believes many dads deal with unfair labels too, as fathers are often thought of as helpless bumbling fools.

Jayne said she mainly wants mothers who read her post to know that you don’t have to lose any part of yourself to become a “good” mom.

“There isn’t a one size fits all to motherhood, quite the opposite ― everything that we experience in life, and the way we express ourselves are paramount to helping raise another individual,” she told HuffPost. “That’s what we want isn’t it? More individuals, instead of everyone being the same. It’s something to embrace. And something to love.”

‘Riverdale’ Star Madelaine Petsch Hilariously Shuts Down Redhead Stereotypes

“Riverdale” actress Madelaine Petsch (a.k.a. Cheryl Blossom) released a comical video in collaboration with TV Guide, debunking the many myths of being a redhead.

“Redheads throughout the ages have been subjected to myths and misinformation, and these tales of redheaded fiction have gone on for far too long,” she begins.

What follows is a hilarious list of ridiculous ginger stereotypes, which Petsch shuts down. She claps back at stories of redheads going extinct, redheads having bad tempers, and redheads having no souls. In fact, to prove redheads do in fact have souls, Petsch references Amy Adams, the Weaseleys, and Ed Sheeran.

Amen to that. Gingers aren’t the problem. As far as Petsch is concerned, the true enemy is blondes.

Oh and one more thing.

The cookbook author and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model recently revealed her bouts with postpartum depression in a essay for Glamour‘s April cover story, in which she wrote about how her life changed after she and husband John Legend welcomed little Luna. PEOPLE had an exclusive first look at the story Monday.

“Getting out of bed to get to set on time was painful. My lower back throbbed; my shoulders — even my wrists — hurt. I didn’t have an appetite. I would go two days without a bite of food, and you know how big of a deal food is for me,” she wrote.

“I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy. I blamed it on being tired and possibly growing out of the role: ‘Maybe I’m just not a goofy person anymore. Maybe I’m just supposed to be a mom,’ ” she said.
