See What The Cast Of ‘Daria’ Is Up To In Today’s Sick, Sad World

You’re standing on my neck … still.

Twenty years ago, MTV debuted “Daria,” a sardonic animated series that taught teens important lessons about love, friendship and how to truly piss off your more athletic schoolmates in gym class.

To commemorate the milestone, co-creator Susie Lewis and character designer Karen Disher reimagined what the characters would look like and be up to today. Let’s just say we’re not entirely shocked that Trent is now a bartender living in Queens. We’re also kind of thrilled about Daria’s career path as a writer on a late-night TV show, and that she’s still chilling with her bestie, Jane Lane, and a potty-trained cat named Godzilla.

“It had been a long time since I watched the show, but this brought back such great memories and reminded me of how much fun it was to create ‘Daria,’” Lewis told Entertainment Weekly.

To see what the beloved characters are up to today, just check out the EW exclusive video above.

10 Comics That Will Speak To You If You’re Totally Sick Of Dating

Are you at the point where you’re debating deleting Tinder and just having your grandma set you up with someone? If the answer is “yeah, maybe,” we’ve found an Instagram account that will speak to you.

On Doodles By Jess, Amsterdam-based art director Jessica Stahl draws super relatable cartoons illustrating her daily life. Some of our favorite doodles document her frustrating experiences with modern dating:

And less-than-generous sex partners:

Thank you for presuming to know my body better than myself

A post shared by Doodles By Jess (@vanillacooldance) on

We know that guy, too.

The 27-year-old illustrator told The Huffington Post that her doodles are based on her own life and observations of people around her. When it comes to dating, her cartoon heroine is “a series of contradictions.”

“She’s someone who doesn’t want to be tied down, but who is also still searching for love,” Stahl explained. “She embraces her sexuality and is comically realizing that her preconceived notions about men and dating are way off the mark.”

See more of Stahl’s illustrations below, or head to her Instagram to see them all.

This Bride Didn’t Think Her Sick Dad Would Make It To Her Wedding. But He Did.

Andre Pearson never thought he would make it to his daughter’s wedding.

The 61-year-old arrived at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in March with heart and kidney failure, according to a press release from the hospital. At the time, doctors thought his condition was so bad that he only had one more year to live. He underwent surgery to repair his heart valve and dialysis treatments, which improved his health, but he was told he was still too sick to fly to his daughter Alexandra Price’s wedding. The plan was for him to watch the Palm Springs, California, ceremony Saturday on FaceTime.

But last week, Pearson’s medical team did a reevaluation and decided he was well enough to fly. They told him they were going to send him to the ceremony at Desert Ridge Estate in Indio so he could surprise his girl, according to local TV station KESQ.

“I really didn’t expect it. It came out of left field,” Pearson told The Huffington Post during a phone call Thursday. “I said, ‘No way this could be happening.’ The first thing I thought was Oprah coming out of the hallway. That would’ve been my next thought, that Oprah’s got a trip for me or something. But it was good.”

His surprise was only matched by his daughter’s, who burst into tears Friday when she opened the door of the house where she was staying and saw her father outside.

“Everybody was excited,” Pearson said. “Especially when I was rolled in the wheelchair into the house where she was at and she had no idea that it was coming, but it was all of a sudden tears everywhere. Tears of joy.”

Price was thrilled.

“I knew he wasn’t coming because I knew the circumstances and everything and I just feel shocked; it feels like a dream,” she told KESQ. “It was amazing since he wasn’t supposed to be here. It was just amazing to have him, sickness and all, here and it just made me feel really happy and whole and complete.”

Pearson, the brother of former Dallas Cowboy Drew Pearson, said his favorite part was getting to walk Price, who is his youngest daughter, down the aisle.

TK gifs

“I gave her away at the altar, that was very special, as well. Then I got a chance to go back to my seat and I started crying right there,” he said. Pearson also got a son that day, he said. “My wife and I never had any sons; we have all girls. I told [Price’s husband] that I just gained another son,” said Pearson, who has another son-in-law who lives in Texas. “Now I have two sons and I’m thankful for that. It’s wonderful that they’re the right guys and will take care of my girls, especially my youngest, my baby.”

After successful treatment at the Mayo Clinic, Pearson is now well enough to likely return home to Nebraska within the next month, according to the clinic’s press release.

Love Sick, Really

We hear a lot about falling in and out of love through our business, Never Liked It Anyway.

There are many clichés about falling in love, or having a crush on someone such as “takes my breath away,” “makes my heart skip a beat,” “gives me butterflies,” etc, etc, etc. But realistically, aren’t those ‘butterflies’ the same as overwhelming nausea?

Who would want to be plagued with excessive sweating? And if high school health class taught us anything (aside from “no glove no love”), I’m pretty sure any loss of breath isn’t a good thing. The symptoms of falling for someone are like wearing a wet turtleneck sweater in august: uncomfortable and confusing, or like having a terminal illness and not knowing where you stand on the donor list. I’m no doctor, but these afflictive feelings sound an awful lot like the following medical conditions according to WebMD:

What you’re feeling: nervous sweaty palms, or excited goosebumps from a slight brush of the skin
Actual symptom: excessive sweating and anxiety are common signs of oncoming panic attacks or an Anxiety Disorder. The intense fear that can’t be controlled is on par with the overwhelming feelings to burst like firework whenever you see your crush. Just try not to cross the line between “oh it’s a little hot in here”(I’m just a little nervous), and “why do I have sweat stains down to my hip?” because that much sweating isn’t cute (or normal).

What you’re feeling: a kaleidoscope of butterflies painting your body head to toe
Actual symptom: nausea as a result of possible food poisoning from eating the leftovers from that take-out you ordered two nights ago, or the pint of ice cream you downed within the first half of a rom-com movie. This feeling isn’t ideal after a couple of drinks, so why is it welcomed when “crushing” on someone?

What you’re feeling: straining in your face and stomach from excessive smiling and laughing (sincere or fake)
Actual symptom: pain and discomfort, which are tied to nearly any illness, including constipation. WebMD states one, “may have hard, dry stools that are difficult to pass.” Like these stools, some crushes hit harder than others.

What you’re feeling: light headed around your new target’s intoxicating charm, especially when they whip out a guitar, and “take your breath away.”
Actual symptom: girl, you might just have asthma. I can assure you carrying around an emergency inhaler is a pain, and having to use it when your breathing becomes rough is even more of a pain. “Others may have severe symptoms that interfere with daily life,” like when you stalk their social media 10x a day (side note: don’t do that, but if you do, checking twice a day should suffice). Also, Michelle Branch’s song, “Everywhere” seems to endlessly play in the back of your mind. Difficulty sleeping is also common, and similar to when its 3 am and you’re laying in bed, staring into the darkness contemplating the imaginary wedding details, your future children’s names, you two’s inside jokes that don’t exist….

Like the lifelong journey of endless crushes, many of these are “lifelong conditions that can be managed but not cured.” So for all you single, unattached ladies out there, kudos to you for not having to deal with a dictionary worth of symptoms caused by “falling for someone.”

Teen’s Instagram Tribute To His Sick Great Grandma Needs No Filter

When Louisville, Ky., teen, Zach Belden, created an Instagram account for his great grandma, he had no idea how big of a following it would attract, WDRB reported.

Grandma Betty is dying of cancer, so Zach thought this would be a great opportunity to share happy moments with his family and friends, and also have something to remember her by.

But, it hasn’t only reached their family and friends: the account, grandmabetty33, was made in January and already has more than 6,500 followers.

Grandma Betty gets a huge kick out of it, asking how many new followers they’ve gained every day, according to WDRB.

“I’ve been here 80 years, maybe they’ll learn something good from me,” she told the outlet.

On March 10, Zach posted an Instagram thanking all their followers:

From photos of her and her late husband, to videos of her dancing to Pharrell’s “Happy,” the sweet account is definitely worth checking out.
