Tom Brokaw Slams Woman Who Accused Him of Sexual Harassment: ‘I Am Angry, Hurt and Unmoored’

Journalist Tom Brokaw eviscerated one of the women accusing him of sexual harassment in a memo to some NBC News colleagues Friday.

The Hollywood Reporter obtained a copy of the email, in which Brokaw, 78, characterizes  Linda Vester as “a former colleague who left NBC News angry that she had failed in her pursuit of stardom.” (The Associated Press confirmed the authenticity of the memo, too.)

In a Washington Post report published on Thursday, Vester, 52, claimed Brokaw made an unwanted advance, including a forcible attempt to kiss her, on two occasions in the 1990s. At the time, Vester was in her 20s and did not file a complaint.

But Brokaw staunchly denies her allegations, writing, “I am angry, hurt and unmoored from what I thought would be the final passage of my life and career, a mix of written and broadcast journalism, philanthropy and participation in environmental and social causes that have always given extra meaning to my life.”

Vester, he said, “has unleashed a torrent of unsubstantiated criticism and attacks on me more than twenty years after I opened the door for her and a new job at Fox news.”

He went on to give his version of their two meetings, during which he said she discussed her career and “office gossip.”

“I deeply resent the pain and anger she inflicted on my wife, daughters and granddaughters – all women of considerable success and passion about women’s rights which they personify in their daily lives and professions,” he concluded. “We’ll go on as a family that pursues social justice in medical emergency rooms, corporate offices, social therapy, African women’s empowerment and journalism. And no one woman’s assault can take that away.”

In a separate memo,  NBC News chairman Andy Lack told the staff, “We take allegations such as these very seriously, and act on them quickly and decisively when the facts dictate.”

Tess Holliday Slams Man Who Penned Viral Instagram Post About ‘Curvy’ Wife: ‘Stop Giving Men Trophies’

Tess Holliday has joined the long list of social media users who aren’t happy with one man’s viral Instagram post about loving his “curvy” wife.

Many initially applauded Robbie Tripp after he shared a photo of himself and his wife, praising her figure and lamenting being teased for liking “girls on the thicker side.” But that praise quickly turned to criticism, with many calling the post self-serving.

“Stop giving men trophies for doing the bare minimum,” Holliday, a 32-year-old model and body positivity advocate, wrote alongside a pair of Instagram photos on Saturday. The first photo showed a tweet that read: “*guy likes curvy woman* 16,667 favs, national news. *curvy woman likes herself* 12 favs, 48 people in your mentions talking about diabetes.”

Tripp’s initial post – a sweet photo (taken by Kailee MaRae) of himself and his wife, Sarah, embracing on a beach – has amassed more than 30,000 likes on Instagram since first being shared last week.

“For me, there is nothing sexier than this woman right here: thick thighs, big booty, cute little side roll, etc,” he wrote in the lengthy caption. “Her shape and size won’t be the one featured on the cover of Cosmopolitan but it’s the one featured in my life and in my heart.”

He added: “Guys, rethink what society has told you that you should desire. A real woman is not a porn star or a bikini mannequin or a movie character. She’s real.”

While many applauded the man for the “beautiful” post, others slammed Tripp, accusing him of patting himself on the back for being attracted to his “thick” wife.

“That Robbie Tripp post gives me hope that one day, I too will find a man who fetishizes my weight to make himself feel like a hero,” one tweeter wrote.

An Instagram user weighed in: “This is incredibly insulting to your wife. Women of all shapes and sizes are beautiful. Putting yourself on a pedestal for being with her is arrogant.”

Tess Holiday in Straight/Curve: Redefining Body Image

As the post – and the backlash – went viral, many began digging deeper into Tripp’s social media presence, finding alleged posts that featured controversial content.

Holliday shared an alleged 2015 tweet from the man that read: “Born a Bruce, always a Bruce. Clothes, makeup, surgery, and public acceptance still won’t change how you came into the world.”

To that, Holliday responded, “Also I’m not here for someone who says transphobic things.”

Tripp did not seem too bothered by the outrage though. On Saturday he shared a Twitter photo of himself lounging on a beach-side balcony.

“This is what I’m currently doing while sad and sarcastic people are getting angry with their keyboard,” he tweeted.

Drake Rep Slams Former Porn Star’s Paternity Accusation: ‘She’s Just Another Woman Claiming He Got Them Pregnant’

Drake is hitting back at accusations from former porn star Sophie Brussaux, who claims she is pregnant with his child.

Brussaux—who was spotted with the rapper, 30, in January following his split from Jennifer Lopez—has hired two major New York City attorneys to begin the proceedings to prove paternity and seek child support, TMZ reports.

The site says Brussaux claims she is three and-a-half months pregnant, and believes the conception occurred at the end of January. A photo of the pair together in Amsterdam was taken on Jan. 24.

“If it’s in fact Drake’s child, which he does not believe it is, he will do right by the child,” Drake’s rep tells PEOPLE. “She’s just another woman in a long line of women claiming he got them pregnant.”

Jay Pharoah Slams SNL over Firing: ‘You Go Where You’re Appreciated’

A version of this article originally appeared on EW.com.

It’s been eight months since Jay Pharoah’s surprise departure from Saturday Night Live, and the comedian is finally opening up about his exit.

In an interview with HOT 97, Pharoah shared his feelings about his role, or lack thereof, on the show where he starred for six seasons.

“You go where you’re appreciated,” he said. “They put people into boxes. Whatever they want you to do, they expect you to do. And I’m fiery too … I’m not a ‘yes n—–.’ That’s not me.”

The comedian acknowledged that he grew frustrated as his fellow cast members told him how they felt his talent wasn’t being used. Arriving at SNL thanks in great part to the viral success of his spot-on impressions of Jay Z and other stars, Pharoah says he felt he was put in an “impression box.”

After years of sitting behind Fred Armisen, the actor was finally able to showcase his most popular impression, when he was promoted to play President Obama in 2013. While the show has seen a surge in viewership and buzz amid Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of President Trump, Pharoah opines that SNL “gave up” on Obama.

FROM COINAGE: The True Cost of Famous TV Apartments

“If you really noticed, for the last year and a half, they didn’t do any Obama sketches,” he said. “I was like, ‘Just let me do my character and we’ll be fine.’ didn’t want to do that.”

Pharoah also discussed in the interview his involvement in adding more black performers and writers to the show. Saying he was almost fired in 2013 for his push to diversify, he took credit for the likes of Leslie Jones and Sasheer Zamata coming onboard. “I am the reason it happened,” he claimed.

Despite his criticism and dismissal, the comedian, who is set to star in Showtime’s White Famous, contends he doesn’t hold any ill will toward the show or boss Lorne Michaels. Impersonating fellow SNL alum Chris Rock, Pharaoh cracked, “I met Lorne Michaels and I ain’t been broke ever since.”

Manchester By the Sea Director Defends Casey Affleck After Student Journalist Slams the Actor

The Oscar-winning writer/director of Manchester By the Sea is slamming a student journalist from his alma mater for writing an opinion piece highlighting the sexual harassment allegations against the film’s star, Casey Affleck.

Kenneth Lonergan condemned the article in a letter to the editor of The Wesleyan Argus, in which he accused the sophomore journalism student of writing a “tangle of illogic, misinformation, and flat-out slander” against Affleck, who recently won an Oscar for his performance in the film.

Last week, in a piece titled “How Wesleyan Is Complicit in Affleck’s Sexual Misconducted by Endorsing Lonergan ’84,” assistant opinion editor Connor Aberle criticized the college for its “praise” of Lonergan, and called Affleck’s Best Actor win “severely problematic.”

“Wesleyan University cannot insist on claiming credit for Kenneth Lonergan unless they also acknowledge their complicity in the success of a perpetrator of sexual violence,” Aberle wrote. “Lonergan essentially won Affleck his Oscar by handpicking Affleck for his movie.”

Aberle’s comments refer to the two sexual-harassment lawsuits that were filed against Affleck in 2010 by two women who worked with him on the film I’m Still Here. Affleck has denied the allegations, and settled the suits out of court for undisclosed amounts. In the settlement, the actor did not admit any guilt, and he and his accusers are barred from discussing details of the case.

Lonergan responded to Aberle’s article with an opinion piece of his own, titled, “How Connor Aberle and The Argus are Complicit in Slandering Casey Affleck.” The director slammed Aberle’s writing as slander, writing, “Only the author’s presumed youth can possibly excuse his deeply offensive display of ignorance, and warped PC-fueled sense of indignation.”

RELATED: Casey Affleck Responds to Criticism Following Controversial Oscar Win

He added, “He writes as if Casey Affleck were actually guilty of a crime. In fact, it was alleged 7 years ago, in a civil lawsuit for breach of contract, that Casey sexually harassed two women formerly in his employ. Casey denounced the allegations as being totally fabricated. Like most civil suits, this one was settled out of court by mutual consent on undisclosed terms … In other words nothing was proved or disproved. So how does Mr Aberle dare to write as if he knows who was telling the truth and who was not?”

After Affleck won the Oscar, many took to social media to criticize the decision. In a recent interview with the Boston Globe, Affleck — the younger brother of Ben Affleck — addressed the criticism, saying, “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

Affleck told the Globe that he is not permitted to speak about the now-settled lawsuits, and said that the people condemning him on social media don’t know the facts of the situation. “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent,” he added. “Everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”

Rumer Willis Slams Photographers For Allegedly Retouching Her Jawline In Vanity Fair Photos

Rumer Willis loves her jawline just the way it is.

After an outtake from a Vanity Fair photo shoot appeared online, Willis took to Instagram to express her disappointment over what she seems to think was a Photoshopping job gone wrong.

The 27-year-old actress wrote that the size of her jawline was reduced in the high-fashion spread, but photographers Mark Williams and Sara Hirakawa quickly responded to Willis’ claim, explaining that the photo was not retouched “to alter or modify anyone’s face.”

“The photographer Photoshopped my face to make my jaw smaller and I find it really offensive for anyone to try and change the way you look so drastically,” Willis captioned the photo on Instagram.

“I love the way I look and I won’t support anyone who would feel a need to change the way I look to make me beautiful. Whether or not they realize it, it is a form of bullying, which I won’t stand for,” she continued.

After Willis posted the image, the photographers issued a statement to The Cut to explain their editing choices, claiming that “there was never any intention … to alter her appearance.”

Read their response below:

The retouching that was done to the photograph was only done to resolve some distortion with using a wide angle lens for a group shot, and not to alter or modify anyone’s face. We used a wide angle lens, and it might’ve made Rumer’s chin look smaller from the higher angle that we shot the image. We did correct for the optics of the lens slightly as people’s heads get distorted through the wide angle lens. We certainly did not intend to change the way she naturally looks. Our intention was to capture the special bond between Rumer and her sisters.

It saddens us that Rumer feels the way she does about the image and hope she understands that there was never any intention with it to alter her appearance.

We should make clear that this image was an outtake and was not published in Vanity Fair or vf.com nor did they ever see it.

Regardless of the motivation behind the retouching, Willis, the eldest daughter of superstars Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has been routinely criticized for her appearance from a young age. She’s been vocal about her battle with insecurity and the pressures of fame in the past, penning a powerful essay in Glamour after taking home the Mirror Ball trophy on “Dancing with the Stars” last year.

“When you grow up in the public eye the way that I did, everyone’s looking at you and waiting for you to do something crazy or say something wrong or have a meltdown,” she wrote. “I was constantly bullied because of my looks, so I struggled a lot with my body image.”

“After I finished [the show] I felt more beautiful than I had in my entire life … because of what I’d accomplished and worked so hard for,” she continued. “What it comes down to is this: We all need to stop bullying ourselves and being cruel to other women.”

Jon Stewart Slams Donald Trump Supporters For Defending ‘Mexican Rapists’ Comments

Donald Trump has found himself in the center of controversy since he first announced his bid for presidency, and Jon Stewart is having a field day.

On Thursday night’s show, “The Daily Show” host told viewers he wanted to thank one person “who’s been there really throughout this whole run, but specially near the end of the run.” That person was Trump.

“Donald recently glided back into my life on his solid gold up-and-down people mover, cranked up the unauthorized Neil Young, opened up his crazy hole, and promised me I would never be without material again,” Stewart told his viewers.

The focus of Stewart’s segment was a string of anti-immigrant remarks Trump made during his presidential announcement speech. You may remember hearing the Donald say: “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Like many of us, Stewart was baffled by these comments, but even more so by the people who continued to defend them.

“The one good thing to come out of this is that the farce of his candidacy is finally exposed: his un-seriousness on display, for all people and voters to see! And the results will be obvious,” said Stewart, before showing that Trump is actually in second place among Republican voters in a national poll in three states flashed on screen.

“F–k me,” was all he could say.

Sheryl Underwood Slams The Duggars On ‘The Talk’ After Fox Interview

“19 Kids and Counting” stars Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar broke their silence in an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Wednesday, and it brought out a very powerful and emotional response from “The Talk” host Sheryl Underwood on Thursday.

During their interview, the Duggars revealed they didn’t seek any sort of help for their oldest son Josh until the third time he confessed to them that he had molested five minor girls. The breaking point, they said, was when Josh admitted to touching his youngest sister, who was only 5 years old at the time. Sisters Jessa, 22, and Jill, 24, spoke out near the end of the interview, confirming they were two of Josh’s victims.

Underwood, who is a survivor of sexual abuse, did not accept what many saw as excuses from the Duggar parents.

“I went through that [at] 3, 4, 5 years old … you know something is wrong and if nobody listens to you and nobody is going to stop it whether I’m asleep or not. I didn’t sleep. I learned how to stay up as long as I could. I may sleep at school, because nobody is going to protect me, so I had to protect myself,” she said.

She continued, “Aisha you said that it didn’t help [the Duggars] to do this interview. What it really did was it helped us, the world, to see what happens to people when they’re in some type of family structure when the people you’re supposed to trust to protect you seem to be your co-conspirator in your violation.”

During their interview with Kelly, the Duggars made sure to state that, “As parents, you aren’t mandatory reporters,” also noting, Josh “was still a kid and he was still a juvenile. He wasn’t an adult … This wasn’t rape or anything like that.”

Bill Maher Slams Liberals For Slamming Liberals

“Don’t throw the synthetic baby out with the bathwater,” said Bill Maher on Friday.

During his “New Rules” segment on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the talk show host took some time to call out liberals for attacking other liberals. “What is the point of attacking people who are 95 percent on your side?” said Maher, later adding, “I see atheists and agnostics bitching at each other. Why is this even a thing? Do you believe in a talking snake? Me neither. We’re on the same team.”

Bill Maher Slams Islam Again In Wake Of Charlie Hebdo Attacks

On the Season 13 premiere of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday night, the host continued to slam Islam following his comments earlier in the week on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Maher spoke out against “hundreds of millions” of Muslims on Wednesday night on “Kimmel” for supposedly supporting the Jan. 7 terrorist attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which resulted in the death of 12 people.

Maher revisited the topic on his own show on Friday in a discussion with bestselling author Salman Rushdie, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and CNN commentator Paul Begala. “We tend to forget how often it happens, and we’re Americans so we don’t want to single out people,” Maher said before listing terrorist attacks that have occurred across the globe since 9/11. “What we’ve said all along, and have been called bigots for it, is when there’s this many bad apples, there’s something wrong with the orchard.”

Maher then referenced the heated debate between Ben Affleck, author Sam Harris and himself back in October. During the discussion, Harris said that the religion is a “mother lode of bad ideas.” “But it is,” Maher agreed on Friday night. “And, unfortunately, the terrorists and the mainstream share a lot of these bad ideas.”

Hollywood Slams Decision To Cancel ‘The Interview’

(Reuters) – Hollywood filmmakers and actors voiced outrage on Wednesday after Sony Pictures pulled the release of North Korea parody “The Interview,” following threats from hackers who waged a massive cyberattack on the movie studio.

Actors Ben Stiller, Steve Carell, Rob Lowe, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and filmmaker Judd Apatow, all friends of “The Interview” stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, criticized the decision made by movie theaters and Sony.

Lowe, who has a cameo in the film, tweeted “Wow. Everyone caved. The hackers won. An utter and complete victory for them.”

Raunchy satire “The Interview” follows a hapless TV host (Franco) and producer (Rogen) who score an interview with the elusive North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and are recruited by the CIA to assassinate him.

Sony Pictures canceled the film’s Dec. 25 release as major U.S. theater chains decided to postpone screenings after hackers forced an apparently unprecedented change of plans for a major movie release.

Kimmel, writing on Twitter, called the decision “an un-American act of cowardice that validates terrorist actions and sets a terrifying precedent.”

Stiller, who directed and starred in 2001’s “Zoolander”, about a male fashion model brainwashed to assassinate a fictional prime minister of Malaysia, called “The Interview” cancellation “a threat to freedom of expression.”

Carell, who has starred alongside Rogen in numerous comedies, said “Sad day for creative expression,” with the hashtag #feareatsthesoul.

Both Carell and Stiller also tweeted pictures of Charlie Chaplin playing his Adolf Hitler parody in 1940 film “The Great Dictator.”

Franco and Rogen, who directed, produced and wrote “The Interview” with filmmaking partner Evan Goldberg, did not make any public statements on Wednesday.

A U.S. government source said investigators had determined North Korea was behind last month’s cyber attack on Sony Corp’s movie studio, leaking documents that drew global headlines.

One Texas cinema chain, Alamo Drafthouse, said early on Wednesday it planned to show “The Interview”, even as other theaters bailed.

When Sony pulled “The Interview,” the chain said it would screen at its Dallas-Fort Worth theater the 2004 puppet-comedy “Team America: World Police” in which a U.S. paramilitary force tries to foil a plot by then-North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

Sony said it had no plans to release “The Interview” on DVD, video-on-demand or online streaming platforms, despite support of the idea from fans on social media.

‘Golden Boy’ Director Slams Sharon Stone, Says Her Demands ‘Bordered On Ridiculousness’

Italian director Pupi Avati knew he wanted Sharon Stone to star in his film, “Golden Boy.” What he didn’t know, he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview on Friday, is how difficult it would be to work with her.

Avati told The Hollywood Reporter that he was thrilled that Stone agreed to act in the low-budget project, until Stone’s reps reportedly reached out with a lengthy list of demands.

“It was a negotiation that bordered on ridiculousness, concerning embarrassing details, as if Italy was a third world country. By the way, we do have electricity in Italy,” he said.

The director claimed Stone’s antics didn’t end there, either. According to Avati, when Stone saw a television crew and photographers filming a scene, she allegedly left the set unannounced.

“Then my brother [Antonio Avati] received a phone call from Los Angeles from her manager. She wouldn’t come back on the set until the photographers and especially that damned TV cameramen had gone away. Obviously we did so and she, like nothing happened, shot the scene. The thing that I found most absurd is that she had to call to the States and to close herself in a car, instead of coming to ask us directly,” Avati said.

“None of this is true,” a representative for Stone told HuffPost Entertainment in an email. “Ms. Stone is the consummate professional.”

This isn’t the first time someone has alluded to Stone being difficult to work with. In a scathing 2010 piece for Deadline.com, Nikki Finke, the site’s former editor-in-chief, slammed the actress for her on-set behavior.

For more on Avati’s complaints about Stone, read the full interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
