Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘Heart Is Screaming’ for Families Separated at the U.S.-Mexico Border

Jada Pinkett Smith is the latest celebrity to speak out against the Trump administration’s child separation policy.

The Girls Trip star, 46, posted a photo to Instagram on Wednesday showing a crying child trapped in a cage.

“This is our solution in handling immigration? Has history taught us nothing? My heart is screaming,” she captioned the image.

Since President Donald Trump’s administration rolled out its “zero-tolerance” immigration policy — which prosecutes undocumented immigrants who cross the border between the U.S. and Mexico — more than 2,300 children have been separated from their parents since April, it’s been reported.

On Wednesday, the president did an about-face, signing an executive order reversing his administration’s policy of separating children from their parents when they illegally cross at the border.

Pinkett Smith joined a chorus of other celebrities who have also spoken out against the policy.

After House Speaker Paul Ryan shared a Father’s Day post on Twitter talking about how his life changed when he became a dad, John Legend shot back, “Seriously, f— you. Reunite the families at the border and we can talk about father’s day.”

The tweet came days after Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, announced they were making a $ 288K donation to the ACLU on President Trump’s birthday to draw attention to the “immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration.”

In response to a statement from First Lady Melania Trump where she said she “hates to see children separated from their families,” Kathy Griffin fired back in a tweet on Sunday. “F— you, Melanie,” she said, spelling Mrs. Trump’s first name wrong. “You know damn well your husband can end this immediately…you feckless complicit piece of s—.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda retweeted a viral photo shared by his father, Luis, of a two-year-old Honduran asylum seeker crying as her mother was searched and detained near the U.S.-Mexico border last week. Luis said that despite having a great Father’s Day planned with his family, he couldn’t “shake image of this little girl that Trump is traumatizing.”

The Hamilton creator and star replied, “Same boat as you, Pa. Sick to my stomach and heartbroken for our nation this Father’s Day. Love you.”

Reese Witherspoon, Alyssa Milano, Common, Ellen DeGeneres and more celebrities also spoke out against the current conditions.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith Celebrate Son Jaden Smith’s 19th Birthday with Epic Throwbacks

Jaden Smith turned 19 on Saturday, and his family celebrated with a series of painfully cute photos from his childhood.

Mom Jada Pinkett Smith kicked things off with a throwback photo of Jaden in what looks like a sunflower costume, praising her son’s style and calling Jaden her “treasure.”

“Jaden, you’ve always had style,” the 45-year-old Girls Trip star wrote in the post’s caption. “Happy 19th my treasure. I love you.”

Dad Will Smith was right behind her. Last year he wrote a sweet Facebook post for his son, saying that he’s “still tryna figure out what the hell  doing.” (An old picture of the 47-year-old actor scratching his head while holding baby Jaden accompanied the message).

This year the proud papa took to Facebook again, also posting a very sweet photo of baby Jaden sitting on Smith’s lap. This caption cleverly read, “Happy Birthday, Jaden.19 today! I’ma have to sit on your lap from here on out.”

Sister Willow, 16, threw her brother some love too.

“Happy Birthday Big-Bro,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a childhood photo of Jaden.

For his 18th birthday, Jaden also released “LABOR V2,” a rap song with a jazzy backtrack, to commemorate his becoming a legal adult.

Though his Netflix series The Get Down has been canceled, Jaden is still staying busy. He’s currently filming a new movie called Life in a Year, alongside Cara Delevingne and Cuba Gooding, Jr.. The project is slated for release in 2018.

Anna Nicole Smith’s Daughter Dannielynn Birkhead Looks All Grown up at the Kentucky Derby

Anna Nicole Smith‘s 10-year-old daughter Dannielynn Birkhead looked adorable in her Kentucky Derby-ready get-up, posing with dad Larry Birkhead  ahead of the big race on Saturday.

Perhaps topping prior years’ outfits, her dress featured multiple shades of pink, complemented by her fascinator hat and flower-studded shoes.

The father-daughter pair, who live in rural Kentucky, have been attending the Derby together for the past seven years. And on Twitter on Saturday, Birkhead noted he met Smith at a Derby party.

“Dannielynn b4 she raided the dessert room at the Barnstable-Brown Party where I met her Mom in 2003 #lifefullcircle #BarnstableBrownParty,” Birkhead, 44, tweeted on Saturday as he posed alongside his daughter.

Birkhead, who works as a photographer and dabbles in real estate for a living, has raised his daughter — who looks just like her mother — as a single dad. Dannielynn was only 5 months old when Smith, a former Playmate of the Year, died at age 39 following a drug overdose in Florida in 2007.

In February, during a sneak peek on Good Morning America of a new 20/20 interview, Birkhead shared a sweet letter the 10-year-old wrote to explain her love of coloring and how it connects to her mother.

RELATED VIDEO: Dannielynn Birkhead is ‘Fearless’

“Ever since my mother’s death, a friend of hers said she would send me pretty butterflies,” Dannielynn had written. “So, butterflies chase me everywhere and I let the butterfly come out of my pencil and fly on my paper with its wings of love.”

Anna Nicole Smith’s Daughter Is Adorable In Annual Kentucky Derby Showing

No matter who snags the crown Saturday, Dannielynn Birkhead and father LarryBirkhead have won for the sweetest dad-and-daughter appearance.

The 10-year-old daughter of the late model Anna Nicole Smith continued her annual tradition of hitting the Kentucky Derby red carpet with her father this weekend. Both were decked out in cream and pink outfits Saturday, with Dannielynn topping her outfit off with a headpiece perfectly suited for the festivities.

The pair also made an appearance the night before, all dolled up in formal attire for the 29th Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby Eve gala.

In an interview with the “Today” show last year, Larry explained that he’s not interested in pushing his daughter into the spotlight.

“People call me all the time and say can she be in a movie, can she model?” Birkhead said at the time. “I didn’t care about it, so I’d say no, she’s not interested. She’s just a regular kid.”

Dannielynn has been making the Kentucky Derby rounds with her dad since 2010, when she was 3 years old. Clearly, her love of pink hasn’t changed a bit. And neither has her close bond with her dad.

Harry Smith’s Last Throw

Harry Smith’s Last Throw

The War of Mlanjeni was the longest conflict in South African history until the second Anglo-Boer War. The loss of life was substantially heavier than that of the Zulu War of 1879 and the political after-effects of it were significantly greater than those that followed the Zulu War. The Zulu War has been the subject of numerous accounts but the silence surrounding the Eighth Frontier War is deafening. Harry Smith’s Last Throw fills this gap: a moving history, vividly drawn out using eye-witness accounts. The narrative is not limited to the British perspective. Xhosa accounts have been translated (many for the first time) to avoid an Anglo-centric bias. For both sides by the 8th War there was a great deal of blood to avenge and brutal killings were perpetrated by many combatants. The author provides a colorful backdrop, explaining how the Dutch East India Company came to the Cape to establish a provision station for ships on the way to its East Indies empire. Dutch Burghers settled there but the Company had no interest in Africa itself. In order to be viable farms had to be large and this created a class of independent-minded who looked increasingly to the interior of Africa, pushing the Colony&supl;s borders. The wars with the Xhosa were the result of the eventual expansion of these boundaries into Xhosa territory.

Dame Maggie Smith’s Best One-Liners From Downton, As Told By Gifs

Happy birthday Dame Maggie Smith — or should we saw Lady Grantham? The Dowager Countess turns 80 on Sunday and though her “Harry Potter” days are over, we thank our lucky stars we can still get our weekly dose of her sharp wit and biting humor when “Downton Abbey” returns for its fifth season on January 4th on PBS.

While Smith has had quite a distinguished career with roles in acclaimed films like “The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie,” for which she won an Oscar, “A Room With A View,” and the recent “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” films, perhaps her most memorable role is that of the nosy, pushy, caustic family matriarch at “Downton Abbey.”

While millions of viewers tune in to see the drama unfold, Smith herself says she has never watched the show. She says what she gets out of the role is simply “the delight of acting.” We’re pretty sure the pleasure is all ours, Dame Maggie.

Besides seeing what becomes of the Grantham ladies’ love lives, the upstairs/downstairs relationships and apparently, a cameo appearance by none other than George Clooney, we’re looking forward to seeing what the Dowager Countess has up her sleeve next, whether it’s bickering with Mrs. Crawley or battling with new technologies.

So to celebrate Dame Maggie’ birthday and to get you excited about the next season, here are the Dowager Countess’ very best one-liners in gifs. Enjoy!

Young Singles, Seth Adam Smith’s Marriage Advice Isn’t for You

Dear nieces and nephews (biological and metaphorical),

There’s a marriage advice post spreading across the Internet like low-fat mayo over Wonder Bread. It’s called “Marriage Isn’t for You,” and it’s full of sweet-sounding ideas handed out by Seth Adam Smith, a guy who resembles the male half of the the straight couple that tops every wedding cake. In addition to being handsome, Smith has an inspiring and sad story, so we find ourselves nodding and sharing before we realize what he’s really saying.

You’ll probably run across his post at some point, and it will probably make an impression, since you are “at that age” and some of you are dating, but I want you to take a closer look and really give some thought to the ideas he feels entitled to share as gospel after a year and a half of marriage.

Marry your best friend: Good advice if you can swing it, and advice that I’d love to see you follow. Of course, my best friend and I are both male. In fact, many people find that their best friend shares their gender. Alas, in 36 states marriage is indeed not for us, often thanks to the intervention of Smith’s church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But that probably doesn’t bother Smith, since he thinks that…

Marriage is for your future children: Your great-uncles are too old to have kids, but some of them have recently married. You have cousins who can’t have children, but they got married. One day my partner and I will get married. Do our marriages still count if they’re not about children? They certainly do. You can have a wonderful marriage without having babies. So if you do decide to have children, let it be your choice. Don’t let family or friends or anyone tell you that your marriage is less than theirs if it doesn’t produce babies.

Marriage is for the other person’s happiness: If you love someone, you want them to be happy. And it’s very nice to think that you can make another person happy, but it’s also very arrogant. What really makes a person happy? Lots of things: family, friends, hobbies, work, and more. It will be your job to add to their lives and help them be even happier. The way to do that is to be happy yourself, with hobbies, friends, and work of your own. And when those things aren’t going so well in your lives, you can each help the other through the bad times. Together, two happy people can create an even happier couple, but if you make someone else’s happiness your mission in life, you give them the power to make your life a failure. Which brings me to the last point he makes:

A woman’s selfless love cures everything (but a man’s love can come and go): Smith went through a time when he was being very selfish, and his wife forgave him. That’s great for him, but I want you, especially my nieces, to know that you are under no obligation to be the saint in your relationship. If a relationship depends completely on one partner doing all of the forgiving, all of the loving, all of the sacrificing, then it is not a fair relationship, and you deserve a fair relationship. Don’t let anyone tell you that real men misbehave and real women forgive. Find someone who is prepared to be just as loving and devoted as you are.

See, “marriage is for others” is exactly what women have been told for centuries, and it’s done a lot of harm. “Marriage is for the family” kept women ashamed of their marriage problems and too scared to divorce their husbands. “Marriage is for children” has kept multitudes of women locked in abusive marriages “until the kids are grown.”

Cody and I have been together for almost 20 years now, without state sanction, families pushing us together, or children at our feet. Maybe we’ve managed this long because we didn’t have the “benefit” of very much family advice, so we remain reluctant to give much advice ourselves.

But you know what? Since we were never allowed to be the idealized couple atop the wedding cake, we’ve had to find our own way, and we’ve learned an awful lot. We have advice for what to do when marriage isn’t an option, when kids aren’t in the future, when bromides about selflessness give way to realities about careers, priorities, health, and aging. I may not always put that advice on the Internet, but it will always be here for you. And even if we’re not the first people you think of, I hope you come to us before you put much stock in some of the popular advice floating around out there.

Love,
Uncle Wayne
