Cher’s Favorite Designer Bob Mackie to Speak at 92Y With Fern Mallis

Theatergoers, who haven’t lined up tickets for “The Cher Show,” can catch her famed fashion designer Bob Mackie at a Jan. 29 Q&A at 92Y.
Looking to give the glitzy bedazzler his due after more than 50 years in the fashion industry, Fern Mallis said she has been trying to get him to commit to the stage for a year. About a year ago, the Fashion Icons interviewer started the process. “Booking people for this is not exactly easy,” she said, adding that news reports of the Cher-inspired Broadway show only made her more impassioned to seek him out.
Mallis said she first met Mackie more than 30 years ago through the Council of Fashion Designers of America. “I remember going to one of his shows in the tents at Bryant Park that was just mind-boggling. It was so theatrical that it was like watching a Broadway show. The crowd was just on their feet. It wasn’t about the latest trends or fads. It was spectacle.”
While Cher remains perennially linked to Mackie’s career, he worked with Carol Burnett for 11 years, and dressed standouts like Judy Garland and Diana Ross, too. Mackie also sketched the nude-colored rhinestone-encrusted gown that Marilyn Monroe wore

Nicolas Ghesquière and Grace Coddington to Speak With Alina Cho at the Met

THEY MET IN FASHION: Two of the fashion world’s more elusive personalities — Nicolas Ghesquière and Grace Coddington — will sit down for a conversation with Alina Cho at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Oct. 22.
Ghesquière, artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s women’s collections, and Grace Coddington, former creative director for Vogue, have a lot of common ground in and out of fashion. They will speak about their recent collaboration for Louis Vuitton, their love of animals and future plans. One shared commitment is their chat on “Face to Grace,” Coddington’s new Made to Measure series.
In next month’s installment of “The Atelier With Alina Cho,” the pair will have a good deal to discuss, given their contributions to the fashion industry. Their creativity and stewardship has led to an understanding of fashion as art — a topic that will no doubt be a hit with guests in the audience.
In May, Ghesquière renewed his contract with the LVMH Moët Hennessy-owned Louis Vuitton. The designer first took on the role in 2013, following in the footsteps of Marc Jacobs. With Ghesquière’s creative input, the world’s biggest luxury brand reported “unprecedented” growth in ready-to-wear and leather goods in a statement last spring. His

GoFundMe Donors Speak Out as Couple Is Accused of Spending Homeless Man’s Money: ‘Despicable’

Donors who contributed money to help a homeless man in need say they are “saddened” by reports that the New Jersey couple who launched the GoFundMe campaign may have spent the funds on luxurious vacations and even a BMW.

Johnny Bobbitt, 35, was living on the streets of Philadelphia when he famously spent his last $ 20 to buy gas for 28-year-old Kate McClure after her car broke down on Interstate 95 last October. To repay him, McClure and her 39-year-old boyfriend Mark D’Amico launched a GoFundMe campaign, with more than 14,000 people donating a total of $ 402,706 to the man.

Now, less than a year later, Bobbitt is back on the streets and McClure and D’Amico are under criminal investigation. Through his lawyer, Bobbit has accused them of engaging in fraud and conspiracy by withholding money from him and spending the funds on a lavish lifestyle.

“It looks like they scammed him. That is despicable,” donor Janine McClenny, of Houston, tells PEOPLE. “I didn’t donate money to the couple. I donated to Johnny.”

McClure and D’Amico have denied the fraud allegations contained in Bobbitt’s lawsuit, and they have not been criminally charged.

On Thursday, the Florence Police Department executed a search warrant at McClure and D’Amico’s apartment and seized the couple’s BMW, a spokesperson for the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office told PEOPLE. The search came just days after the couple’s attorney said in court that the money they had been court-ordered to hand over to Bobbitt’s legal team is all gone.

“That kind of money can bring out the worst in people,” donor Sheilah Scofield tells PEOPLE of McClure and D’Amico. “It was just too much money for them to handle,” she speculated. “I thought was right to . They were withholding money that was raised for him.”

Burlington County Judge Paula Dow ordered the search warrant that prompted the prosecutor’s office to tow away the pair’s BMW, the spokesperson with the prosecutor’s office told PEOPLE. The spokesperson said that should criminal charges be filed, the couple could potentially face arrest.

Earlier this week, the couple’s attorney, Ernest Badway, said in court that all of the remaining funds are gone and Dow has ordered D’Amico and McClure to appear before her on Monday to explain where the money went. A court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14.

McClure and D’Amico have said they began to keep the remaining funds from Bobbitt after he allegedly spent $ 25,000 in less than two weeks, some of it on drugs. They spoke about the incident last week on Megyn Kelly Today, claiming that they went above and beyond to track down the man’s birth certificate and get him identification.

They said they used the money raised to buy Bobbitt a camper that he asked for, an SUV, clothes, food and to admit Bobbitt to rehab for drug addiction.

Scofield says she is “saddened” by the recent developments, and McClenny tells PEOPLE that she thinks the couple should never have withheld the money.

“I don’t think the couple should have the right to decide to keep the money from Johnny,” she says. “He is an adult. They are not in a position to make decisions about how he spends money raised for him.”

Attorneys for neither Bobbitt nor the couple immediately responded to a request for comment from PEOPLE.

“He was our family. He is our family. I still think, to this day, that he is our family,” McClure told Kelly. McClure spoke through tears as she claimed the couple’s been receiving death threats.

On Thursday, GoFundMe officials said that they would ensure Bobbitt received money through their GoFundMe Guarantee program.

“Johnny will be made whole and we’re committing that he’ll get the balance of the funds that he has not yet received or benefited from,” officials wrote on the organization’s Facebook page. “GoFundMe’s goal has always been to ensure Johnny gets support he deserves.”

Dwayne Johnson Has a Long Conversation with Daughter Tiana — Even Though She Can’t Speak Yet!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s 3-month-old daughter Tiana Gia may not be talking quite yet, but she’s definitely not afraid to express what’s on her mind!

While spending some quality time with their youngest daughter, the 46-year-old actor’s girlfriend Lauren Hashian shared a sweet clip of a conversation the proud parents had with their very vocal baby.

Presumably speaking about their daughter’s next meal, Johnson asked little Tiana, “Would you like those chilled or…?”

“On the rocks,” Hashian, 33, added.

After being presented with the option, Tiana let out a variety of sounds and then cried out while looking around at her surroundings with wide eyes.

“Yes, we can go there,” Johnson remarked, as his daughter immediately broke into a huge smile and began letting out a few more communicative cries.

“That’s fantastic. I love that idea,” the actor replied.

Later on, after asking his daughter whether she would “like to say some more,” Tiana smiled while letting out another cry.

“Sure, would you like — ” the actor began to reply, before their daughter let out her biggest cry yet.

“Oh absolutely, we love that song too,” he remarked.

“Morning convos,” Hashian captioned the adorably silly clip.

Of course, the parenting hilarity doesn’t stop once children learn how to talk. While spending some time with the couple’s eldest daughter Jasmine Lia, 2, earlier this month, the Skyscraper actor revealed he had gotten a very interesting compliment from the child.

“Great to recharge the batteries this weekend, back home with all my girls and teaching this lil’ tornado how to swim,” the doting dad wrote alongside a photo of himself and his daughter in the pool.

“Took my shirt off and she said, Daddy I like it your brown boobies.. 😂🤔 Thank you baby, but daddy has pecs, not boobies,” he wrote, adding the humorous hashtag, “#MrBrownBoobs.”

The former wrestling star announced Tiana’s arrival in late April with a sweet skin-to-skin photo of the newborn laying on his chest, calling Hashian a “true rockstar” in the post’s caption.

“I was raised and surrounded by strong, loving women all my life, but after participating in baby Tia’s delivery, it’s hard to express the new level of love, respect and admiration I have for @laurenhashianofficial and all mamas and women out there,” he wrote.

The Cranberries Speak Out After Dolores O’Riordan’s Death: ‘We Are Devastated’

Following the news of The Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan’s sudden death at the age of 46, the remaining members of the band have spoken out about their grief.

We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores,” Fergal Lawler, Noel and Mike Hogan wrote in a joint statement on social media.

“She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today,” they added.

The Irish musician was in London at the time of her death for a recording session, her publicist confirmed in a statement to the BBC. “Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” read the statement.

A cause of death has not been announced.

“Police in Westminster are dealing with a sudden death. Officers were called at 9:05 a.m. on Monday 15th January to a hotel in Park Lane. A woman in her mid-40s was pronounced dead at the scene. At this early stage the death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries continue,” Scotland Yard officials said in a statement to PEOPLE.

RELATEDDolores O’Riordan Assured Fans She Was ‘Feeling Good’ Three Weeks Before Sudden Death at Age 46

Just a little more than three weeks before her sudden death, O’Riordan assured her fans she was “feeling good” after canceling the band’s tour earlier in the year because of ongoing issues with her health.

“Hi All, Dolores here. Feeling good!” she wrote on the band’s Facebook account. “I did my first bit of gigging in months at the weekend, performed a few songs at the Billboard annual staff holiday party in New York with the house band. Really enjoyed it! Happy Christmas to all our fans!!”

Last July, the band thanked their fans for their “outpouring of support” after they were forced to cancel most of their European summer tour because of O’Riordan’s “recovery from her ongoing back problem.”

“Her doctors have now instructed her to cancel her upcoming almost sold out tour of North America with the band,” they added, saying her recovery “has not been going as well as expected.” The musicians had been scheduled to tour in the States from Sept. 11 through Oct. 6.

O’Riordan is survived by her three children, 20-year-old son Taylor, 16-year-old daughter Molly and 12-year-old daughter Dakota.

“She’s someone who doesn’t want to be tied down, but who is also still searching for love,” Stahl explained. “She embraces her sexuality and is comically realizing that her preconceived notions about men and dating are way off the mark.”

New Musical Aims To Speak To Those Rattled By ‘Social Injustice’

Broadway playwright and novelist Marc Acito and Grammy-nominated songwriter Amy Engelhardt are teaming up for a new musical project with a socially-conscious slant.

The pair have written a new musical, “Bastard Jones,” that is aiming for a spring premiere at The Cell in New York. The comedy is based on The History of Tom Jones, Henry Fielding’s 18th century novel which follows “an outsider’s quest for acceptance.” The book’s titular character, played by Albert Finney in the 1963 film, “Tom Jones,” is repeatedly rejected for being illegitimate. Both Acito and Engelhardt feel that plot point will particularly resonate among contemporary audiences given the struggles the LGBTQ community and other minority groups are facing under President Donald Trump’s administration.

“In 1749, being illegitimate made you a second-class citizen. We’re channeling our rage at social injustice into a door-slamming sex farce,” Engelhardt, who likened the music she’s written for the show to “Candide, Spring Awakening and Meat Loaf,” told The Huffington Post. Added Acito, “Substitute any oppressed minority with the word ‘bastard’ and it’s the same story, different characters.”

The writers have launched a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to cover production costs. They’re also planning to donate all royalties and proceeds from the show to Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund, an advocacy group for homeless LGBTQ youth.

Acito, who wrote the book for the 2015 Broadway musical, “Allegiance,” told HuffPost that his debut novel, How I Paid For College, was inspired by his own decision to leave home after coming out as gay in high school. Were it not for a friend’s mother who took me in, I easily could have ended up on the streets,” he explained. “I look at any displaced person—homeless, immigrant, refugee—and I don’t see ‘other.’ I see myself.”

Watch Acito and Engelhardt talk about the project in the video above, then head here to read more about the fundraiser.

Hi, Death? I’d Like To Speak To Your Manager, Please

No, I don’t mind waiting.

Hello, sorry to have to do this, but I’ve recently had trouble with one of your employees. I think his name is Derek? Or maybe Darth?

Yes, Death, that’s it. Well, I can tell by your grim expression that perhaps you’ve had trouble with this one before.

I’ve been a customer here for over 30 years now, and I have to say I don’t remember the last time I was so disappointed with the service. I would say over the last year the quality has taken quite a dive.

Have you guys changed owners? Listen, shit happens, I get it. You can’t expect the service to always be perfect. But 2016 was awful.

I heard Barry is leaving! Awww, we love Barry. So smart, so courteous. He’s been a great leader around here.

Is it because of Don, that jackass you put in charge in November? Sorry for being frank, but he says the most insulting things, especially to women, and he attracts a lot of unsavory characters wherever he goes.

But anyway, I just really hope Death’s not around forever. Is that why you’ve been losing so many people?

Seems like every week there’s another person gone, and Facebook explodes with goodbye posts … Oh, I follow you guys on Facebook.

I’ve spoken to other customers who expressed similar concerns. Maybe it’s the nostalgia element, but we miss the way this place used to be. We miss the people who used to be here.

And hey, maybe they’ve gone to a better place, but I think 2017 could still be a great year for everyone here, too.

Anyway, sorry to be that customer. I just felt the need to say something. Thanks for listening.

Psst, and maybe think about getting rid of that jackass you put in charge!

Keanan Duffty, Glen Matlock to Speak on Fashion, Music at Polimoda School

The Polimoda fashion school in Florence will host a lecture on the intersection of fashion and music during the Pitti Uomo show in January.
Sex Pistols founder Glen Matlock will join Council of Fashion Designers of America member Keanan Duffty for a guest lecture entitled The Saturday Boys on Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
The presentation will open the Polimoda Rendez-Vous series for 2017.
Duffty said he was invited to give a keynote lecture by Polimoda’s dean, Danilo Venturi and asked Matlock to join him since 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollock album, which was a defining moment for punk music.
According to Duffty, Matlock worked in Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s Let It Rock shop in the early Seventies and printed many of their early provocative T-shirts. “He has an insider’s view of London rock ‘n’ roll fashion, which can also be found in his autobiography ‘I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol.’ He has an encyclopedia knowledge of youth culture like that of Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet,” Duffty said.

Why I Invited Marc Maron to Speak at Princeton University

Several months ago, I decided to invite the comedian Marc Maron, host of the popular podcast WTF and the star of the television show Maron, to speak at Princeton University. The popular stand-up comedian might not be the most predictable choice to deliver a lecture in our public event series. When I tweeted out that he will be speaking in McCosh 50, the same room where Albert Einstein delivered lectures about the Theory of Relativity, Maron himself seemed a little surprised, tweeting back: “Cool. No Pressure Man.” “Thanks for telling me that guy who’s running the lecture, oh man, not a lot of pressure,” he said on the October 5 podcast.

The truth is that, in my mind Maron, is a terrific and important figure who students and faculty should hear. The idea of inviting him to the university occurred to me before he announced that he was going to interview the president of the United States, a show that greatly bolstered his standing.

Besides the fact that stand-up comedy often provides some of the most insightful commentary about American culture, Maron is living proof of the great potential in modern communications technology. We have all heard the standard litany of complaints about what has resulted from the modern media world: the voices in broadcasting are increasingly shrill, quality control seems to have virtually disappeared along with tight production and editorial standards, and the hyper-fragmentation of broadcasting has made it difficult for any single voice to gain a sizable audience.

Yet since first airing in 2009, WTF has demonstrated that new technology has created important space for innovation.

Through his podcast, Maron has shown how the medium offers a type environment for conversation and discussion that was not always possible in the formal setting of traditional television and radio broadcasting. By literally conducting the interviews in his garage, Maron has convinced a huge number of guests — ranging from comedians like Robin Williams to public figures such as President Obama — to open up about their personal lives and their professional experiences in ways that have been absolutely riveting to listeners. The ease of contemporary technology helped him to create a “studio” space in which Maron nurtures a style of informal and intimate conversation that shatters the walls usually separating the listener from the show. As he told The New Yorker, “Guests sit within a history of me, artifacts from different times of my life.” Maron likens his interviews to the “ongoing conversations” that his grandfather (Grandpa Jack) had with the locals at a hardware store where he worked.

Without the large infrastructure of a network around him, podcasting also gives Maron the flexibility to move about and to interview a wide variety of guests, some of whom have proven to be extraordinarily interesting (such as a series of conversations with comedians about “borrowing” or stealing material from each other) that might otherwise not have found support in traditional broadcasting outlets. Indeed, he was able to follow his show with President Obama by interviewing comedians like Rich Vos.

Podcasts are also attracting younger listeners who are often turned off and tuned out to the traditional networks. Studies have shown that podcast audiences lean toward younger listeners, which creates an opportunity to provide quality shows to generations of Americans who are otherwise not listening. One can imagine how hosts interested in politics might take the Maron model to over political news in ways that attract disenchanted youth to this subject matter.

Part of the reason that they can do this is because podcasts embody the trend of narrowcasting that began back in the 1970s when the networks started to lose their monopoly. When shows can thrive within a certain niche and only have to appeal to certain audiences, they have the ability to refine their stylistic approach and substantive foci rather than feeling the need to do a little of everything but nothing with much depth.

Podcasts open up the constraints of time in a way that facilitates more open-ended and in-depth conversations. Podcasts can vary greatly in length. The host does not have to feel the pressure of finishing within a certain time frame imposed by commercials and radio or television airspace. The extra time, as well as the ability to go shorter, can liberate conversations to move in all sorts of directions when the host and producer don’t have to keep their eye on the clock.

So inviting Marc Maron was actually a no-brainer. Maron has done something truly spectacular with this new technological form. For those who constantly lament what each new innovation brings, they should download his app and listen to some of the exciting directions the media might take. Today, I’ll be enjoying what he has to say the old-fashioned way, sitting in my seat for his lecture right here at Princeton.

Teen Who Was Told She Would Never Speak Is Now A Talented Singer

This young woman has something to sing about.

Born with a birth defect, Amber Simone Chinn was not expected to breathe, much less speak, on her own. But now, the 19-year-old is a powerful singer, and a video of her performing has gone viral, WGRZ reported.

Chinn was born with craniosynostosis — a defect in which the joints between the skull bones close prematurely — which led to a procedure at the age of 6 months, from which she was not expected to fully recover, the news outlet reported. Chinn’s parents were told she would never talk, but she beat the odds, calling her recovery a miracle.

At a friend’s graduation party earlier this month, Chinn was caught on camera singing by the pool. The video of her performing “The Worst,” by Jhene Akio, was uploaded to Facebook and has received over 2 million views as of Tuesday.

“It’s hard to grasp,” Chinn told WGRZ. “I have confidence, but I never thought me sitting by the pool, a random video would be so viral.”

Now, the young musician is a student at SUNY Buffalo State and is working with local music producers on an original song. On her GoFundMe page to create a music label, Chinn cites her performance of “The Worst” as a “music video about women empowerment and the need to confront and walk away from domestic abuse.”

Last December, another young woman shared a small musical moment to address a larger issue. Single mom Kimberly Henson uploaded a video of herself singing Sam Smith’s version of Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know” to her baby daughter. Overnight, she reached more than 20 million people on Facebook alone, WLTX reported. In January, she released an original song called “Tiny Hearts” to share her experiences as a single parent.

“I may have taken a different path and missed little things here and there,” Henson told The Huffington Post. “But coming home and being a little person’s superhero means a lot of more in the end.”

Speak Up Chef: The Making of Marc Vetri

Introduced by his friend Mario Batali as a “hero to young people who stutter”, chef Marc Vetri took the stage. He was being honored by the Stuttering Association for the Young and he received his award almost sheepishly, as he smiled out to the packed auditorium. “With the stage lights on me I couldn’t see a single person in the audience. I hadn’t written a speech, but I knew I wanted to thank my parents, my wife and my speech therapist. I knew the story I wanted to tell.” After a couple seconds, he began his speech.
It was an eloquent and humble acceptance speech, one that earned him a standing ovation. More surprisingly perhaps, it was a speech given with the kind of voice we don’t often hear. A voice peppered with blocks of silence and repeated vowels. It was the voice of someone who stutters.
We know that Joe Biden and Jack Welch and Emily Blunt are ‘stutterers’. Many of us can rattle off a couple more names of famous people who stutter, or grew up stuttering. And yet, we rarely, if ever, hear the sound of their stuttered voices. They are held up as examples for young people, examples of what can be achieved if you grow out of your stutter, or learn to tame it. Examples of what is possible if you become largely fluent.
Marc Vetri is a different kind of hero. He is a man who has become a leader in his profession whilst stuttering.
“I was first drawn to the kitchen because I thought it was a place you didn’t have to talk.” He laughs at the memory as he tells me that these days he never stops talking. As well as a nightly prep talk to the 30 man team at his restaurant Vetri, he does radio interviews, appears on TV shows and gives speeches at industry events. “I know that people will listen to me, that they are interested in what I have to say. I don’t think about my speech too much these days.”
Still, he admits that it took a while to achieve that kind of acceptance. “There was a time when I was obsessed with my speech.” On the first food order he called in when he was working at Granita back in the early 90s, he remembers calling the vegetable guy back 10 times to complete the order because the answering machine kept cutting him off. The first time he had to work the expo station in the kitchen he sweated bullets calling out the orders.
And yet, he stuck it out. He kept speaking, kept working, kept desensitizing himself to the situations that scared him. As much as his stutter was a challenge, it also became a driving force in his career. “I believed that I had to work harder to compensate for my speech. I worked as if the guy next to me was working 24 hours to steal my job.”
Walking around Marc’s hometown of Philadelphia, it is clear that all that determination has paid off. Having first opened the critically acclaimed Vetri in 1998, Marc has since won a James Beard award for his cooking and he has opened 5 more restaurants around the city. Signed copies of his three cookbooks line the shelves of local bookstores and the culinary scene in the city gets ‘hotter’ every time one of his protégés opens a new restaurant.
If his stutter has shaped some of that outsize ambition, it is also the keeper of his humility. “I know the guys in my kitchens do impressions of me. One day I asked one of them to do it for me. He was all uncomfortable, kept telling me he’d never make fun of me. Eventually I persuaded him to do it. You know, he was good, too good.”
It is easy to assume that Marc can laugh at his stutter, because he knows how good he has it. He gets to do work he loves, expressing himself through food, and he has a young family that he seems to adore.

Many times we believe that we need to ‘fix ourselves’, that we need to iron out our imperfections before we can be what we want to be. Instead, Marc has reached the height of his profession while stuttering. He proves that you can refuse to let your challenges harness your dreams.

Design & Incubation – When does the Muse finally speak?

All may be familiar with the experience of working hard on a challenge, getting stuck and then, while taking a shower, exercising or preparing for bed, the answer suddenly pops up into one’s brain. The answer can be more or less complete, however, it is often quite novel.

Of course, without first putting in the long hours of focused work, no ideas will ever materialize. All new ideas are a combination of existing ideas, so, the more interconnected ideas one has accumulated the more likely one is to produce novel and useful ideas. However, an important question is, can one count on incubation as a reliable instrument for creative problem solving?

To answer this question, we studied thirty-four design students in Europe and the US. One student mentioned having a “aha” moment while in the shower, while most participants seemed to have insights while conducting ordinary activities, such as driving, walking, eating, people watching, going to bed or waking up.

Since the muse seems to be unconcerned about where her magic is acquired, we examined the time-lapse between when someone stops working hard on a problem and when the eureka-moment occurred. The following is what we found.

If one hopes for their muse to speak to them with twenty-five per cent luck, give her six hours. If one is indifferent to their muse, one has a fifty per cent chance, so, allow her four days. If one really needs her voice, with a seventy-five percent likelihood, allow her seven days and if one wants to be absolutely certain, with a ninety-five per cent probability, two weeks is ample time. Finally, if one’s life depends on it, with a ninety-nine per cent probability, make dead sure she has at least three and a half weeks to work her magic.

Essential for one’s muse to do her work is to stop thinking vertically/analytically and start thinking laterally/associatively. For this to happen, distance is needed from the creative challenge and then, begin to do something completely different. Relaxation is also very important since stress tends to converge thoughts and what are needed here are divergent thoughts. This may be where the mundane tasks of showering, cooking, walking, etc. work their simple magic.

So, how good is the muse at producing ideas? Well, design experts may be somewhat quicker than students and laypeople at coming up with new ideas and the chances that their ideas are actually new might also be much higher. Experts also may be more likely to come up with breakthrough new ideas, especially, if these experts master multiple domains and understand how to navigate them. With this experience, one will be able to judge the newness of ideas and, therefore, avoid re-inventing the wheel over and over again. On the other hand, those who retain their abilities of wonder and quiet observation within their environment can also occasionally surprise themselves and others with breakthrough innovations.

When designing incremental ideas/innovations, old ideas are readily available from which to extrapolate. However, if one is striving for breakthrough ideas/innovation, one must allow two to three weeks incubation time, on top of the up-front, hard prep work. In other words, when taking on an assignment, do not dilly-dally, since time wasted at the outset will be stolen from the incubation time of one’s muse. Respect the muse and her bountiful gifts and she will reward one handsomely!
