Brother-in-Law Surprises Groom in Wedding Dress During Couple’s First Look: ‘It Was So Funny!’

Heidi Zherelyev, of Tempe, Arizona, has always been a prankster. So she just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a laugh out of Val Zherelyev before they wed on June 30.

For the couple’s first look — just before they said their “I dos” in a sweet ceremony at The Gathering Place — Heidi enlisted the help of her older brother, Eric Dodds, to slip into a wedding dress, stand in her place, and surprise her unsuspecting husband-to-be. Photos of the funny moment showed Val laughing with a shocked expression when he saw Dodds in the white, form-fitting gown and brown tennis shoes.

“I was totally convinced it was gonna be Heidi. As I turned around, it was just so unexpected. It took me about five or six seconds to process what was happening. It was just so funny,” Val, 26, tells PEOPLE. “I’ve known Eric almost 10 years … seeing him like that was totally out of his character. It was hilarious.”

Heidi says she and her friend Chelsea had been cooking up the prank for several months before the big day, intending for the joke to “break the ice and get rid of the wedding-day jitters.” Chelsea even lent her own wedding dress from her big day for the joke, and Dodds didn’t join in on the fun until the day of the ceremony, Heidi, 25, says.

“I sprung it on him last minute,” Heidi recalls. “He was a little apprehensive at first, but of course he obliged. Because he’s my big brother and he has to. Once he started putting on the dress, he transformed into the character of the bride.”

She adds: “He had fun with it. We were making jokes. He was putting on my deodorant and perfume so he’d smell more girly.”

In the silly shots, Eric is shown playfully touching the gown. And he and Val even posed for a wedding photo of their own.

“I’ve never seen him do anything remotely close to something like that,” Val tells PEOPLE. “Being a big brother, he kind of stepped up. I was anxious to see … and having that happen threw everything off the rails for a second. But then it put the cherry on top of the day.”

The photos quickly made their way around the interview, amassing thousands of “likes” on Facebook since they were first posted last week.

But Heidi says Dodds still doesn’t understand just how “famous” he is as a result of the viral photos.

“He’s in disbelief,” Heidi says of her brother. “He hasn’t even really seen how far this has spread. We tried to explain to him … girls are even asking who the guy in the dress is. He can’t believe that something so silly and normal for our family, that people think it’s so great.”

She adds: “He’s always been such a good older brother to me. This was just natural of him to help his little sister out and make her wedding day the best that he possibly could and do his part, as silly as it may have been..”

Ariana Grande Surprises Young Fans Injured In Manchester Attack

Ariana Grande brought a much-needed smile on Friday to the faces of some of her young fans who were injured in the Manchester terror attack.

The pop star paid a surprise visit to youngsters at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, who continue to be treated following the May 22 suicide bombing following her concert at the Manchester Arena.

Grande spoke with and hugged the children, and posed for photographs.

The singer spent some time talking to nurses:

She left some gifts:

And she also penned a heartfelt note to one of her fans:

She surprised those she couldn’t visit with video chats:

Adam Harrison, whose daughter Lily sustained spinal injuries in the attack, said she was “on cloud nine” following Grande’s visit.

This means more to us than all the amazing things people have done this week,” said Peter Mann, whose daughter Jaden was also injured in the blast.

“So happy she came I could burst. Never seen Jaden so happy; even cried again myself,” Mann told the BBC.

Grande made the hospital visit soon after returning to Manchester for the first time since the May 22 attack, which killed 22 people and injured dozens more.

It came ahead of her all-star “One Love Manchester” benefit concert at the Emirates Old Trafford stadium in Greater Manchester on Sunday.

Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay and Pharrell Williams are all set to perform. Proceeds will go to the Red Cross’ “We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.”

‘This Is Us’ Cast Surprises Fans, Starts Crying Like The Rest Of Us

Much has been written about the semi-torturous experience of watching “This Is Us,” NBC’s hit show that leaves viewers in a puddle of their own tears after every episode.

After emotionally destroying us for 18 episodes, it’s about time the cast got a taste of their own medicine. As part of the network’s upfront presentation on Monday, NBC gathered some of the show’s biggest fans to share their own stories about family, parenting, adoption and grief.

What they didn’t know was that stars like Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown and Chrissy Metz were listening off-screen. As fans recounted heartwarming (and heartbreaking) stories about how the show hit home for them, the actors quietly broke down in tears.

The feels kept on coming when the stars surprised the fans, leading to meetings so emotional, series creator Dan Fogelman must have crafted them himself.

Carrie Underwood Surprises Fans With National Anthem At Husband’s Game

On top of being a country superstar and an adoring mother, Carrie Underwood is one seriously supportive wife.

On Monday, Underwood ― who’s married to Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher ― surprised hockey fans with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem before game three of the NHL playoffs when Fisher’s team played the Chicago Blackhawks at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

For the powerhouse performance (watch a video above), the seven-time Grammy winner sported her husband’s No. 12 jersey and painted her nails to match the team’s blue and gold colors.

Underwood may have been a good luck charm for Fisher because the Predators won the game 3 to 2.

The couple tied the knot in July 2010 and welcomed a baby boy named Isaiah in February 2015.

“Time sure does fly when you’re having fun and you marry up,” Fisher wrote to his wife in an anniversary Instagram post in July 2016. “I’m very grateful to have an amazing wife and mother by my side!”

Underwood shared a similar sentiment, writing, “Six years ago today, I said ‘I do,’ to this handsome fella. I meant it then and I mean it now. God put us together and continues to bless our marriage. I couldn’t imagine this life without you.”

The Broad Surprises

For the many visitors who’ve flooded The Broad Museum at its official opening this past weekend, the experience was full of surprises. Built by prominent architectural firm, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the museum building grabs ones’ attention from the get-go. Its striking façade is covered with a porous, honeycomb-like veil with a single eye-like window, which stares across the street at its older cousin, MOCA.

2015-09-22-1442962544-6755754-HP_1_Broad_Exterior_Interior_Composite.jpg

An even bigger surprise greets visitors upon entering the museum lobby, whose warping, dancing walls, with their sinuous lines, give the impression that visitors just entered into a dark, mysterious cave. I had the privilege of visiting The Broad several times during its construction, and every time the romantic architecture of its lobby made me think of an operatic overture, taking place before the curtain goes up. Just think for a minute about the impersonal, bank-like lobby of the Museum of Modern Art in New York… Here in LA, the entrance to our newest museum puts one into a particularly adventurous mood.

2015-09-22-1442962594-7438166-HP_2_Broad_Museum_Night_Art_Storage_Composite.jpg

The last few days, I’ve been snapping pictures of The Broad both day and night. It definitely commands attention. With almost 50 years of art collecting, LA philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad have amassed an impressive collection of 2,000 contemporary artworks, which is housed in their new museum on its three floors. But only 250 works were chosen for the inaugural display in the galleries on the first and third floors. The rest of the collection is stored in a specially designed storage facility occupying the museum’s second floor.

2015-09-22-1442962632-9688528-HP_3_Koons.jpg

Knowing the Broads’ particular affection for the art of Jeff Koons, it was somewhat expected that his numerous sculptures would dominate a few rooms. Of course, it’s impossible not to be impressed by his gigantic shining blue Balloon Dog. But wisely, Koons’ rather boring, inept paintings were left to rest in storage.

2015-09-22-1442962670-2138707-HP_4_Red_Woman_Table_Composite.jpg

There are interesting and unexpected juxtapositions of various artworks, as is the case of larger than life sculpture by Charles Ray of a formally dressed businesswoman, with an unintentional and surprising resemblance to Carly Fiorina. Next to it, there is a monumental lightbox transparency by Jeff Wall, with a staged scene of battle with dead soldiers coming back to life. Don’t ask… You just have to see it.

Every time I encounter Robert Therrien’s huge sculpture — a seemingly banal furniture set consisting of a dining table and chairs — I find myself in awe. And I bet that you, my friends, will feel the same when you find yourselves dwarfed by the gigantic scale of this sculpture — one of my favorites here.

2015-09-22-1442962710-3112829-HP_5_Installation_View_Broad_Composite.jpg

The inaugural exhibition demonstrates not only the width of the Broads’ collection, but also shows its sustaining focus on the art of several artists particularly appealing to them. Any major museum would be lucky to have such in-depth collections of Cy Twombly and Jean-Michel Basquiat as those assembled by the Broads.

2015-09-22-1442962764-2702516-HP_6_Video_Walker_Composite.jpg

During my first visit to the museum, I spent almost three hours slowly walking through the numerous galleries, snapping photos and chatting with fellow art aficionados. Some were rather critical of what they deemed rather unadventurous and predictable choices. I told them to take a look at the huge catalog of the Broad collection, and see how many more surprises they find. I dare anyone to go to the room with a curving wall showing the provocative black paper cutouts by Kara Walker and call it unadventurous. And when I stepped into the dark gallery awash with music and holding 9 large screens projecting bizarre, fascinating videos by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, I felt as if the mysterious, operatic promise of the museum’s cavernous lobby had been fully fulfilled.

Couple Surprises Wedding Guests With An Epic One-Take Music Video

Newlyweds Robert and Teresa Ly know how to have a good time.

That couldn’t have been more evident at their August 22 wedding in Maitland, Florida. During the reception, the couple shot a surprise music video that included dancing and lip-syncing along with their 250 guests. Oh, and they filmed the whole thing in a single take.

Teresa told The Huffington Post that she and Robert considered doing a dance with just the bridal party, but decided against it because they wanted to include as many of their family and friends as possible.

“Robert and I stand for fun in our business and personal life so when it came time to plan our wedding, we wanted it to be fun for not only ourselves, but ultimately all our guests,” she said.

Under each table at the reception was an envelope that told guests what their role in the video would be.

“Each person in our bridal party was in charge of a song/section,” the bride told HuffPost. “They helped put our guests into position and briefed them for about 10 minutes. They really didn’t know what was about to happen.”

The music medley kicks off with Frozen’s “Love Is An Open Door,” followed by other jams including Silentò’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” T. Swift’s “Shake It Off,” Maroon 5’s “Sugar” and a sweet finale to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.”

“Our guests had a blast!” the bride said. “Before the wedding reception, we had already made the claim that it was going to be epic and I think we did a pretty good job at delivering on our promise.”

Watch the awesomeness above.

Photos Capture Tender Moment When Man Surprises His Wife In Hospital On Their 57th Anniversary

The sweet story of an elderly man’s tuxedoed surprise for his wife on their 57th anniversary has spread like wildfire on the Interwebs this week as netizens everywhere celebrated the Georgia couple’s enduring love.

James “Jim” Russell told ABC News that he and his wife Elinor don’t typically celebrate their wedding anniversaries in a big way, but this year, his family encouraged him to do something extra special.

So on May 20, Russell — who says he’s known Elinor “since she was in pigtails” — donned a tuxedo and, bearing an armful of flowers and chocolates, surprised his beloved in her hospital room. Elinor has reportedly been hospitalized for the past month.

The couple shared a meal in her room, then watched her favorite TV shows. Elinor told ABC News that the duo “had a wonderful time.”

“Being in a hospital bed, you get bored so when they came in, it made me smile like the younger days when we were dancing,” she said.

The couple’s granddaughter, Reid Russell, shared photographs of the special occasion on Twitter this week. Her tweet promptly went viral, racking up more than 25,000 retweets.

On Thursday, Russell wrote that she was “blessed” to have her grandparents in her life.

Dan Williams, Oklahoma Teen, Surprises All 1,076 Girls At His School With Valentine’s Day Gifts

Wanting every girl at his high school to feel loved on Valentine’s Day, one big-hearted Oklahoma teen decided to surprise all of them with cards and candy this year — a total of 1,076 girls.

According to KFOR, Dan Williams, a student at Edmond High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, had to work all summer to raise enough money for the surprise gifts. “To know that someone cares about them, that’s the best feeling in the world I think,” he told the news outlet.

(Story continues below)

Though Williams intended the gifts to be anonymous, he was reportedly unable to keep his identity a secret for long.

He’s since won the praise of his classmates — and the school itself.

On Valentine’s Day, Edmond High School, whose mascot is a bulldog, honored the young man with this tweet:

Dan Williams: You’re a champ.

Beyonce Surprises Fans With New Album Featuring Jay Z, Blue Ivy, Drake

Beyonce knows her way around a holiday surprise. The singer end-capped 2013 with an “exclusive visual album” that hit iTunes as Thursday ticked into Friday morning. Her fifth LP is entitled “Beyoncé” and features tracks with Jay Z, Drake, Frank Ocean and the singer’s daughter, Blue Ivy.

Every song on the album also comes with its own music video, a mammoth investment for a singer at Bey’s level. The project comes amid whispers that Beyonce — who let the Presidential Inauguration and Super Bowl pass without a new single — wouldn’t let 2013 go without a new album. Whispers turned into a reality that played out on Twitter, where fans excitedly shared the news, mostly in all-caps messages that included the letters “OMG.”

Previously teased tracks “Standing in the Sun” and “Grown Woman” (which apparently has a video on the way, too) — did not make the album. “I see music,” Beyoncé said in a press release provided shortly after the album hit iTunes. “It’s more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music.”

“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” she continued. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”

This is a joyous and developing story. Please check back for more information.
