Predicting which NHL teams’ fortunes will reverse

We’re through about one-third of the campaign, and some teams’ good (or bad) starts are misleading. Here’s who will turn things around. – NHL

A Bathing Ape Teams With Paris Saint-Germain

TEAM PLAYER: Japanese streetwear label A Bathing Ape is launching a capsule collection with French soccer team Paris Saint-Germain.
The collection features BAPE’s signature camouflage print in the French football club’s patriotic hues on sweatshirts, outerwear and accessories. T-shirts from the capsule mix the Japanese brand’s logo, a gorilla head, with the Paris Saint-Germain crest, a red Eiffel Tower.
The 13 pieces will launch in stores and online on Dec. 1. The collection will be available first at the BAPE store in the Marais district of Paris in honor of its first anniversary, before hitting flagships in the rest of the world.
The Instagram account for BAPE France announced the collaboration by posting a picture of the Parc des Princes stadium, where the Paris Saint-Germain has been the resident team since 1974, with both the BAPE and PSG logos visible on the field. The caption read “#IciCestParis” (“This is Paris”), the football club’s official tag line.
Owned by Qatar Sports Investments, the Paris Saint-Germain is no stranger to fashion collaborations: The soccer club teamed with Manish Arora for his spring 2019 ready-to-wear collection presented in September. The designer sent models down the catwalk wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the faces of soccer stars Kylian Mbappé and Neymar.

Shaniqwa Jarvis Teams With X-Girl to Drop Capsule Collection at Social Studies NY

STREET-SMART FASHION: The streetwear brand X-Girl has lined up portrait photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis for its latest collaboration.
Compact to the degree that only three items are offered, the styles are available through Sunday at Social Studies NY, a multipurpose space and pop-up. To help spread the word about the collaboration, photographer Chandler Kennedy shot the painter and model Monica Hernandez wearing the assortment. A “Mini Me” crewneck sweatshirt retails for $ 95, the $ 50 “Too Many Rich People in NY” T-shirt and the $ 50 “Less, Less, Less” tote bag, which was hand-dyed by Jarvis, are up-for-grabs.
Jarvis, who has shot for Gap, Supreme, Riposte and others, dove into the capsule collection sector last year for the launch of her Baque Creative Press-published book. Started by musician Kim Gordon and stylist Daisy von Furth in 1994, the X-Girl brand has renewed its focus on New York, and is on the lookout for new talent and creatives that align with the brand. The company has more than 100 stores in Japan and has loyalists like Chloë Sevigny and Sofia Coppola. Early on, the Lafayette Street-rooted label rallied young feminists and that ethos remains.
Housed in Milk Studios, Social Studies NY builds from the success of last year’s Social

Jean Paul Gaultier Teams With Samba School for Rio Carnival

COSTUME PARTY: Moving from cabaret to carnival, Jean Paul Gaultier has partnered with leading samba school Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Portela for the 2019 edition of the Rio Carnival in Brazil.
On March 4 at the city’s Sambadrome stadium, the school is to parade seven floats themed around the story of the late Brazilian samba singer Clara Nunes.
All of the troupe’s dancers will sport costumes designed by the couturier, working alongside iconic carnival designer Rosa Magalhães, Portela’s artistic director, and themed around the eagle, the school’s symbol. The traditional carnival costume is based on a lavish plumed headdress and heels.
Gaultier, who in September opened his “Fashion Freak Show” revue at the Folies Bergère in Paris, traveled to Rio de Janeiro last month to visit Portela’s hangarlike base in the city’s north, meet with Magalhães and learn about the history of the school. Founded in 1923, Portela is the biggest title holder of the Rio Carnival, having won 22 championships.

Developed to honor the work of New York’s bravest, the nine-piece collection of genderless streetwear features FDNY logos and incorporates uniform accents and fire truck insignia.

More recently, she started doing a little personal shopping on the side at the request of her friends including Halsey, whom she first met six years ago. One of Giuzio’s childhood friends is now the musician’s manager. The designer said she first got to know of Halsey via the Internet. “It might have even been before Instagram,” she said.
The pair became friends during their leaner days, when each was trying to make their way. At that time, Halsey was sleeping on the floor with two of Giuzio’s other friends in a New York apartment. After teaming with Céline on an exclusive range, the retailer’s next project includes the release of an exclusive capsule with Louis Vuitton.
Five of the most buzzy products from the label’s fall 2018 collection have been reissued for the capsule, including a black logo dress, the popular “Vanity” structured tote bag in taupe, the “Party” aviator sunglasses in blue-tinged frames and the famous Archlight sneakers recreated in a blue, yellow and white color palette.

Thorsun Teams With Surf Lodge

George Sotelo has snagged a great summer job.
The founder and designer of Thorsun, a luxury men’s and women’s swimwear brand, has been named the Designer in Residence for the trendy Surf Lodge in Montauk, N.Y.
No, the gig doesn’t mean he’s spending the summer there hanging by the pool, but it does mean he’s designed the uniforms for the staff as well as the upholstery for the outdoor furniture.
Sotelo said he got to know the Surf Lodge team last summer when he did a charity pop-up there for Project Paz, which allowed him to actually sell to customers in person for the first time. “It was successful and super fun,” he said, “and I met a whole new demographic who had never heard of the brand.”
So when Surf Lodge founder Jayma Cardoso reached out to see if he’d follow Rachel Comey and Zimmerman as this year’s designer, he immediately agreed. The gig also allowed him to do women’s ready-to-wear for the first time — he designed three different patterned dresses for the staff. The men are being outfitted in surf shorts and sport shirts in one of his custom prints that he based on the color palette of the resort.

Huntsman Teams With Sotheby’s for First Online-Only Auction

TAILOR MADE: In partnership with Sotheby’s auction house, the Savile Row tailor Huntsman & Sons is staging its first online-only luxury lifestyle sale. Bidding starts May 22 and stretches until the end of June.
“At first I wasn’t interested in doing this collaboration, but then I started thinking of all the interesting things I wanted to produce, and before you know it, we had a lot of possibilities,” said Pierre Lagrange, Huntsman’s owner.
Lots range from bespoke jackets and sportswear to sporting goods and objects for the home.
Some of the pieces serve more than one purpose, such as a safari jacket with a backgammon print (for impromptu games in the Serengeti) and a walking stick that doubles as a cigarette holder, in the vein of James Bond. Other noteworthy pieces include those created in collaboration with Harley Davidson, Adidas and Reebok. There is also an orange suit jacket worn by Taron Egerton in the movie “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

Sofia Sanchez de Betak Teams With the Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts for Japanese-Inspired Capsule Collection

ALL WRAPPED UP: The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts has recruited Sofia Sanchez de Betak to launch a capsule collection.
Thirty-plus styles will be featured in the Chufy x The Luxury Collection when it debuts next month at Bergdorf Goodman, The Webster, FiveStory and other international outposts. Known as “Chufy,” the Buenos Aires-born, New York-based art director and fashion consultant was literally on-the-go walking in New York during a phone interview Tuesday.

Tracy Reese Teams With Artist Mel Chin for Art Project Designed to Raise Awareness of Flint’s Water Crisis

EVERY LAST DROP: Conceptual artist Mel Chin recruited Tracy Reese to create a fashion element for his retrospective “All Over the Place” at the Queens Museum in New York.
Coproduced by the public art-focused nonprofit No Longer Empty, the exhibition will feature 70-plus examples of his work — drawings, paintings, sculpture, installations and videos. Running through Aug. 7, the multilocation show will include sites in Times Square and the Broadway-Lafayette subway station. Adept at revealing environmental and socioeconomic systems and injustices, Chin recruited the Detroit-born Reese for “Flint Fit,” a fashion project designed to magnify the water crisis in Flint, Mich.
At Chin’s suggestion, 90,000 used water bottles were collected by Flint residents, who continue to use bottled water for everyday purposes more than three years after lead-contaminated water became a citywide problem. Once shipped to Unifi in Greensboro, N.C., the bottles were shredded and converted into fabric. Reese then designed a water-inspired collection that included rainwear and swimwear. About 14 women at the St. Luke N.E.W. Center produced the nine looks, which will be unveiled in a fashion event Sunday in the museum’s Watershed Gallery.

Celebrity Stylist Ilaria Urbinati Teams With Strong Suit

NEW YORK — Expect to see Armie Hammer sporting a black-and-white hopsack sport coat on a red carpet sometime soon.
The jacket is part of a collaboration between celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati and the Little Rock, Ark.-based Strong Suit that will be launching for spring.
The pair was introduced around two years ago by actress Cameron Richardson, and the result of that meeting will be a collection of men’s suits, sport coats and dress shirts under the Strong Suit by Ilaria Urbinati label that will launch at Nordstrom’s new men’s store slated to open in New York in April. The collection will also be carried at the retailer’s Los Angeles store at The Grove.
“Ilaria is genuinely looking for the best style for her clients,” said Jamie Davidson, founder and creative director of Strong Suit, which was purchased one year ago by Oxford Industries. “She cares about the substance of the clothes, not the branding. So I’m incredibly grateful that she decided to work with a little start-up from Little Rock.”
The negotiations with Nordstrom, which carries Strong Suit’s regular men’s collection at several stores, started over a year ago. But once they saw the collection, “they were totally on board with it,” he said.

‘Today’ Show Teams Supports Savannah Guthrie at Book Party Hosted by Nanette Lepore

AFTER HOURS: The “Today” show team always has an up-and-at-’em start to the work day, but that didn’t deter the morning crew from supporting Savannah Guthrie at her book party at Nanette Lepore’s showroom Thursday night.
NBC’s Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Hoda Kotb, Bobbie Thomas and Willie Geist (who now coanchors MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”) turned up at the rooftop cocktail party. Newcomer Megyn Kelly, who kicked off her much-anticipated run on the morning show earlier in the week, was not in the crowd. Musician Jon Bon Jovi, who at one time was NBC’s artist in residence, made the rounds. Lepore opened up her West 35th Street showroom to about 70 guests who helped Guthrie celebrate the children’s book “Princesses Wear Pants.” The pair first met a few years ago when the designer did a fashion trend segment with Thomas on the morning show.
Lepore was on board with the empowerment message of Guthrie’s book, as well as its fashion theme, a company spokeswoman said. While Guthrie signed some books, partygoers indulged in mini Guinness beers and short-rib sandwiches, compliments of Peter Callahan Catering. As she routinely does on air, the guest of honor wore a look from Lepore, in this case an

Destiney Bleu Creates Tights for Rihanna, Teams With Minimale Animale

RIHANNA’S DESTINEY: Destiney Bleu was days late in getting to Malibu’s Will Rogers State Beach Thursday afternoon. The Los Angeles designer had gladly put her plans for an afternoon out of the office on ice, after Rihanna’s team requested a rush order of crystal-encrusted tights.
That was a first for Bleu, who said the Grammy winner has been on her wish list forever, so much so that she and her design team have been known to chant “Rihanna” to try to will that to happen. In Miami recently for a collaboration with the Minimale Animale label during the SwimShow, Bleu said Rihanna’s new song “Wild Thoughts” with DJ Khaled was heard practically everywhere she went. “It was playing literally every five minutes. Every time we would get into an Uber, it would be playing. We were like, ‘Oh my God, she is like following us around.’ I said, ‘We should take it as a sign that that’s what’s next.’ And lo and behold, they e-mailed me to design some tights for the Crop Over Festival [in Barbados last weekend].”
Truth be told, Bleu was hoping the designer-loving singer would come calling for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 27. (They

Rihanna Teams With Ofo Bike-sharing to Bring Bikes, Scholarships to Foundation

RIHANNA’S WHEEL POWER: Less than a week after meeting French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss educational matters, Rihanna has launched a five-year educational partnership with the world’s leading bike-sharing program Ofo.
Set up through her Clara Lionel Foundation, the eight-time Grammy winner-led “1 KM Action” will help fund CLF’s Global Scholarship Program and support dynamic educational programs in Malawi. In addition, some students have already received bikes to help young girls get to school safely, “cutting down those very long walks they make to and from school all alone,” Rihanna said. Some teachers have also been given bicycles to get to class on time.
After graduating from college and before starting Ofo and becoming its chief executive officer, Dai Wei volunteered for a year as a teacher in one of China’s more impoverished regions. “We believe in unlocking every corner in the world with equal access to education as well as with our bike-sharing scheme,” he said.
The pairing with the Clara Lionel Foundation comes at a time when the station-free Ofo is in the process of trying to raise $ 1 billion. Last month Alibaba helped the three-year-old bike-sharing start-up raise $ 700 million. The 29-year-old Barbadian does not have a deal with Ofo

Charlotte Olympia Teams With Marvel

CHARLOTTE’S COMIC: Charlotte Olympia has looked outside the fashion industry for its latest collaboration. The British footwear brand revealed via Instagram that it’s teaming with the American comics publisher and movie producer Marvel.
Marvel is behind famous comics, including the likes of Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men. Designer Charlotte Dellal has always been partial to spider webs — a gold spider-web motif features on the back of all Charlotte Olympia shoes — so a Spider-Man-themed collaboration seemed most apt.
“We are teaming up with the world’s most iconic web-slinger,” she wrote on Instagram.
News of the collaboration was announced via an animated video that incorporates illustrations of the accessories from the Charlotte Olympia collaboration into a scene from Spider-Man filled with comics illustrations.

The capsule collection consists of signature Charlotte Olympia styles, such as high-heeled, strappy sandals, a pair of red Kitty slip-on sneakers and a clutch with a spider web motif embroidered all over each style.
Friends of the brand, including Julia Roitfeld and Jasmine Guinness, were quick to leave excited responses on Instagram.
Charlotte Dellal has often used collaborations as a means of tapping into new categories and audiences.

ALL ABOUT THE EIGHTIES: Asos has teamed with MTV on a capsule range for women and men that launches on June 23. The collaboration came about as music-video channel and the British online retailer share the same demographic and appeal to the twentysomething market.

Blushington Teams With Tucker by Gaby Basora for All-Day Trunk Show

UPTOWN GABFEST: Women buzzing by Blushington’s Upper East Side location Thursday had the added bonus of checking out spring styles from Tucker by Gaby Basora, and meeting the designer.
“The Sugar Detox” author Brooke Alpert was one of the 40 women who picked up a blouse during the all-day trunk show. Having gone from having a lot of wholesale accounts to being largely direct-to-customers, Basora said events such as the one at Blushington are “really great since people have been e-mailing inquiring where they might be able to try things on and feel the fabrics. We’ve been having a nice turnout doing little collaborations with people that we adore.”
As one brand owned by Resonance’s Lawrence D. Lenihan and Joseph Ferrara, Basora’s company is based in the West 28th Street building that once housed The Tunnel nightclub. The designer plans to use the facility’s bleacher seating for readings and other special events that will include a shopping element. With many people short on free time, it can be difficult to find time for both, Basora said.
