Élan Flowers Helps Mimi Prober Keep Things Local With Floral Display and Botanical Dyeing

IT TAKES A VILLAGE: Community, or the lack thereof, is an ongoing topic of conversation, as “Vanishing New York” blogger Jeremiah Moss can attest.
But Mimi Prober, a designer who specializes in “creating modern heirlooms using antique textiles,” created her spring collection with the help of Élan Flowers.

About a year ago en route to People’s Revolution’s Grand Street office, where she keeps a space, she started dropping by the local florist. “I got really excited because I’ve always used natural color dyes in my process. ‘Stranger Things’ Producer Says Season 2 Will Be Even Scarier

Stranger Things” producer and director Shawn Levy has offered up some hints on the future of the surprise Netflix hit that’s going to be a lot darker in Season 2.

In fact, the new installment of the Duffer brothers’ series “makes the Demogorgon look quaint,” Levy said during a Facebook Live interview Thursday with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I was just in the edit room with the brothers yesterday, and we were like, ‘This is definitely darker. I hope everyone’s down with this.’ Because the threats to Hawkins and to our characters are bigger, darker, oftentimes scarier,” he said.

“So, people who found Season 1 too scary for them, probably you’re going to be more scared by Season 2. But again, the best thing I can tell you is, through it all, it’s got the best heart. But it is ― cinematically and budgetarily ― it’s definitely more ambitious.”

Season 2 kicks off one year after Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) returns from the Upside Down. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is seemingly alive, according to the trailer that aired during the Super Bowl, and some new kind of monster is terrorizing Hawkins, Indiana. Will is also having trouble adjusting back into life after his trauma, along with Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard).

Levy stressed that although the “Stranger Things” bosses were fascinated by the outpouring of support last summer, they aren’t going to let fans’ wishes come before the creators’ instincts.

“We are going to do things that fans will be disappointed in, but I think they will be more satisfied by,” he said.

Like what?

“People still think Barb’s alive,” Levy explained. “You think you want that! But you wouldn’t really want that,” he said, saying that celebrities have come up to him to ask about the fate of Shannon Purser’s character.

“No, you saw! She had a creature ― a slug-worm-snake ― coming out of her mouth. I don’t know that there’s a bounce-back from that. So, no, we are not going to cravenly service the wish list of fans.”

Season 2 premieres Oct. 31 on Netflix.

8 Things Every Broadway Fan Should Watch, Read Or See Before The Tonys

Still deciding whether to forego rent this month and see Bette Midler in “Hello, Dolly!”? Is your obsession with Ben Platt starting to verge on unhealthy? Were you put on this earth to see Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon swap roles every night in “The Little Foxes”?

Well, fear not, theater fans, because the Tony Awards are upon us, with host Kevin Spacey leading the festivities this year on CBS. The stars of stage and screen (alert: Cate Blanchett will be in attendance) will gather in New York City on Sunday night to celebrate the stellar year in theater.

This Broadway season took us everywhere, from working-class Pennsylvania in Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning play “Sweat” to inside the hearts of a fractured family facing the HIV/AIDS crisis in “Falsettos.” Also, though he may not be nominated, but now is a good time as ever to thank the theater gods for casting Jake Gyllenhaal in “Sunday in the Park with George.”

So whether you’re a diehard fan or just tuning into this whole Broadway thing, it’s time to do your homework and check out some theater #content from around the internet about the shows nominated this year.

And for those “Hamilton” fanatics, yes, the Tonys still happen when the musical isn’t nominated, but, rest assured, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be there.

“Dear Evan Hansen” (Best Musical)

From the minds of “La La Land” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, “Dear Evan Hansen” has won over audiences (and Hollywood) thanks to a career-defining performance from Ben Platt and catchy ballads that tug at the heartstrings. Watch Platt and co-star Laura Dreyfuss’ performance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” below.

“Sweat” (Best Play)

The early favorite to pick up the award for Best Play this Sunday, Pulitzer winner “Sweat” is the most politIcally relevant of the bunch, exploring the lives of factory workers in a small Pennsylvanian city. HuffPost recently interviewed playwright Lynn Nottage about what the play says about Trump’s America.

Nottage is also working on a companion piece titled “Floyd,” which will … twist … be a comedy.

“The Little Foxes” (Best Revival of a Play)

Laura Linney. Cynthia Nixon. Period piece. Need we say more? Set in a small town in Alabama circa 1900, both deliver tour de force performances and then switch roles on the subsequent night. They’re also close friends offstage, and brought the fun to “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” earlier this year.

“Falsettos” (Best Revival of a Musical)

We cried and then we cried some more. This musical revival about an imperfect family struggling to stay together in the wake of a divorce and a father’s coming out was a standout this season. The cast is slated to perform at the Tonys this Sunday, so read this comprehensive piece from BuzzFeed about why the show means so much to the LGBT community and how it’s more timely than ever.

“Hello, Dolly!” (Best Revival of a Musical)

As turn-of-the-century matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi, Bette Midler has been earning rave reviews for her long-awaited musical comeback to Broadway. The glorious cast album was recently released and, trust us, your ears will immediately thank you for this musical theater goodness.

Also, the movie adaptation starring Barbra Streisand is currently streaming on Netflix, so what’s the holdup?

“Jitney” (Best Revival of a Play)

From the mind of August Wilson, “Jitney” follows a group of drivers of unofficial and unlicensed taxi drivers ― called “jitneys” ―who transport residents of Pittsburgh Hill District in the 1970s because others refuse to do so. If you haven’t seen Wilson’s best known play “Fences,” the powerful film adaptation starring Viola Davis and Denzel Washington was released last year and also explores the experience and struggle of working class black Americans.

“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” (Best Musical)

This interactive musical needs to be seen to be believed and it’s far too complicated to explain (seriously, it’s adapted from a section of War & Peace), so check out the cast, including Josh Groban, performing two songs on the “Today Show.”

“The Present” (Cate Blanchett for Best Actress)

No one plays morally complex women like Cate Blanchett, and the Oscar winner is in fine form in this surprisingly modern adaptation of an unfinished Chekhov play. Directed by the actress’ husband Andrew Upton, the standout scene features a drunk Blanchett pouring vodka all over herself, as she dances on a dinner table. Watch his interview with the cast below, and for more vodka and Blanchett, check out “Blue Jasmine.”

The Tony Awards air at 8 p.m. June 11 on CBS.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Will End With Another Cliffhanger

“Stranger Things” Season 2 is shaping up to be an Eleven out of 10.

Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin already told HuffPost that Season 2 of the breakout Netflix series is going to be better than Season 1, and now Gaten Matarazzo is here to hype fans up even more.

The actor is teaming up with Holiday Inn for their “Summer of Smiles” event, which, among other things, involves chocolate milk happy hours at participating hotels. One of Matarazzo’s most memorable scenes from “Stranger Things” is when his character Dustin discovers a stash of chocolate pudding in school, so chocolate milk happy hours seem right up his alley.

While casually hanging out by a pool, the actor filled us in on what to expect in Season 2. (You can watch the interview in the video above.)

Ladies, gentlemen, Demogorgons, get ready for another cliffhanger.

Matarazzo said people can look forward to “a good amount of explanation that they’ve been looking for, but also there are some new stories coming in that you’re gonna want to hear about if there is a Season 3. Also, we got another cliffhanger in there for ya, so that’s gonna be exciting.”

The actor told HuffPost that the new season is action-packed, and you’ll learn more about the Upside Down.

But we can’t help but think, “What could the cliffhanger be? And what are the explanations we’re finally going to get?”

One revelation you probably shouldn’t count on is that Dustin is one of the test subjects like Eleven. Matarazzo told us that’s the craziest “Stranger Things” theory he’s heard so far … but he’s into it.

“Who doesn’t want to be like Eleven? Eleven’s awesome,” the actor said.

“Stranger Things” Season 2 is out Oct. 31.

8 Things The Happiest Couples Do Before Bed

We live in a busy world and between work, kids, bills and other daily stressors, many couples struggle to find time to connect.

That’s why it’s so important for couples to make the most of whatever alone time they have together ― whether it’s an hour or just 10 minutes. We asked relationship experts to tell us what the happiest couples do before bed to keep their bond strong. See what they had to say below.

1. They exchange “I love yous.”

“Despite all the hassles of the day, the quirks and annoyances you experience from one another and ominous feelings about the day ahead, make the effort to let your partner know they are loved. And rather than just heave it out with your last sigh of the night, say it like you really feel it.” ― Ryan Howes, psychologist

2. They go to bed at the same time if possible.

“Too many couples go to bed at different times, leading disconnected lives in the evening after already having spent all day apart. Happy couples, however, are intentional about coming back together at bedtime and reconnecting, if only for the few minutes of brushing teeth and getting under the covers. Going to bed together builds connection and provides opportunity for more intimate connecting.” ― Kurt Smith, therapist who specializes in counseling for men

3. They unplug from their phones and other devices.

“We live in a wired world, and more often than not, this takes away from the time couples could spend connecting through dialogue, affection or intimacy. What’s more is that when your partner is on their phone, you feel like they’re not in the room and are somewhere else instead. In my therapy practice, couples who become aware of this intrusiveness sometimes create general rules such as ‘no phones past 9 p.m.’ or ‘no phones in the bed’ to counter such dopamine-inducing but oxytocin-suppressing social media habits. This can really set a couple up for feeling close throughout the entire next day.” ― Kari Carroll, couples therapist

4. They prioritize getting a good night’s sleep.

“Although this isn’t very romantic, beyond the usual advice ― i.e. kiss goodnight, have sex, and say, ‘I love you’ ― getting a solid night’s sleep fosters good mental health, which in turn, makes people more emotionally available during the day. If sleep is hard to come by, get professional advice to develop good sleep habits.”  ― Michele Weiner-Davis, therapist and author of Divorce Busting

5. They take a few minutes to practice gratitude.

“Gratitude has been shown to have a wonderfully positive effect on mood and mindset, so why not share that together? Whether it’s something specific you appreciate about one another or a positive experience from the day, share something you’re thankful for to end the day on a bright note.” ― Howes

6. They don’t try to settle arguments that aren’t easily resolvable.

“It may not seem logical, but happy couples don’t actually settle disagreements before going to bed. We’ve all heard the adage, ‘do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,’ but it’s actually misunderstood. Trying to address heavy subjects, especially those you disagree on, at the end of the day when you’re both tired and short on patience is not smart. Too many couples make the mistake of starting fights at this time of day when they should be building connection ― not creating division.” ― Smith

7. They set aside time to chat about the day and open up about their feelings.

“The happiest couples regularly discuss the external stressors in their life and allow their partner to vent often. This doesn’t mean going into negativity overload all evening, but it does mean setting aside 15 to 30 minutes to unwind and lean into the relationship by showing support for the other relationships and experiences in your partner’s life. In my practice, I help couples listen to their partner’s stresses without feeling the need to take them on or problem-solve. Their partner tends to be appreciative of this opportunity and just feeling understood empowers them to be ready to tackle the next day’s stresses.” ― Carroll

8. They keep the kids out of the bedroom.

“Your bedroom should be a sanctuary for the two of you. Although nightmares and illnesses might trigger children to climb into bed with you, in general, if intimacy and connection is your goal, encourage children to stay in their own rooms. Couples need privacy and boundaries to stay connected.” ― Weiner-Davis

Rosie O’Donnell Says ‘Things Have Been Rough’ for Her Family: I Feel ‘Joan Crawford Was Framed’

The 28th GLAAD Media Awards in N.Y.C. had a very special surprise guest this year: Rosie O’Donnell.

The actress and television personality took the stage Saturday at the New York Hilton Midtown to bestow the Vito Russo Award upon Broadway star and longtime friend Billy Porter, opening her speech with a very honest personal admission.

“Things have been rough in my family in the last week. Let’s just say I feel strongly Joan Crawford was framed,” said O’Donnell, 55, likely referring to the late actress’s strained relationship with her older children, as chronicled in Mommie Dearest.

RELATED VIDEO: Rosie O’Donnell Responds to Question About Daughter’s Disappearance: “No Mom Is Perfect”

O’Donnell didn’t speak further on the details of the recent troubles in her family, which in the past included an estrangement from daughter Chelsea, 19. As of March, the twosome were not on speaking terms, although they reconciled last summer after Chelsea ran away from home at 17 and subsequently married plumber Nicholas Alliegro, who is 12 years her senior.

On Wednesday, O’Donnell shared a cryptic post on Instagram: a poem including such lines as “i struck back when u kicked my chest” and “a trick by nick, mommy is too smart.”

“2:06 – r u up? all this time – just minutes away … miscarriage? no idea – him still – sad really – HE put u out – more than once – should i brace for impact – u got more to say – make a home chelsea – this one u never liked,” O’Donnell captioned the post.

FROM COINAGE: This Is How Much it Would Cost to Paint the White House (And More Crazy Facts)

In early March, Chelsea told Inside Edition that, “the last time we got into an argument, we ended up screaming at each other and I left the room,” saying she was “done” after O’Donnell kicked her out of the house.

“I would just want her to know that we’re doing really great and we’re happy,” Chelsea added, saying she’d “someday” like to have a better relationship with O’Donnell: “I hope.”

11 Things You’ll Relate To If Your Cousin Is Your Best Friend

Sure, some people only see their cousins at family reunions ― along with other distant relatives. But for those lucky to enough to call a cousin a best friend ― myself included ― life is pretty damn great.

Having a cousin for a bestie means you have a sidekick at family events and someone to vent to when your parents or siblings are being annoying. But most importantly, you know that they’re always there for you. Below are some truths about having a cousin for a BFF:

1. You can count on them to be there at every holiday.

Likely with wine in hand, ready to gossip about all the family drama. Plus, if you have to split the last slice of pumpkin pie, it may as well be with each other.

2. And you’re bound to text them under the table at those family gatherings.

If something ridiculous happens, your cousin is the first person you reach out to on the sly.

3. You’ll likely be in each other’s weddings.

And there’s no one else either of you would rather have at the altar when you say “I do.”

4. There’s still a chance you’ll fight like siblings.

Your cousin is not afraid to call you out when you’re being moody, and you’re not scared to tell them that their hairstyle looks lame. You’re stuck with each other for life, so you might as well be honest.

5. They were there during your awkward teenage years.

And they’re not afraid to remind you of it. That includes, but is not limited to, making fun of your old school photos, poor style choices or nerdy hobbies. (Beanie Baby collecting, anyone?)

6. You’re able to vent to them about your other relationships.

Your sister is being insufferable? Your cousin is always there to give you some sound wisdom. Their significant other is driving them bonkers? You’re there to talk it out over lunch.

7. You’re always told that you look alike ― and you love it.

It runs in the family, after all.

8. They understand and are sensitive to your family issues.

Because it’s their family, too, and they know how ridiculous the clan can be. It’s always helpful to have an ally when grandma asks when you’re going to start dating.

9. Your wardrobe is full of clothes they gave you.

Hand-me-downs are totally okay when they come from your cousin’s closet.

10. Your parents are constantly comparing the two of you.

Or accidentally calling you by the other one’s name. But this is more of a compliment than an annoyance.

11. You wouldn’t trade your relationship for the world.

You guys are siblings at heart and best friends for life. What’s better than that?

7 Things We Love AND Hate About Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a masterpiece of open-world design and interconnected systems. And while there’s a lot of love about it, that doesn’t mean everyone is crazy about every little thing!

We asked several members of the IGN staff who’ve leaped headfirst into Hyrule what their favorite, and least favorite, moments in Breath of the Wild are after many hours spent adventuring. Here are seven things we love and hate about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is AWESOME, but that voice acting… man. It’s not-so-awesome. Many of the line readings feel rushed and cramped, and almost everyone feels like they’re simply ‘playing a character.’ They don’t sound natural, or realistic. I don’t want the Zelda team to give up, though. I’m firmly in the camp that thinks it’s time for Link to talk. But hopefully their next attempt improves over what we got in Breath of the Wild. — Justin Davis, Executive Editor

8 Things The Happiest Couples Do Every Morning

Mornings can feel frantic with everyone trying to get out of bed and out the door on schedule.

But making time ― even just a few minutes! ― to connect with your partner before the chaos of the day sets in can make a big difference in your relationship. Here’s what the happiest couples do daily, according to Huffpost readers and marriage experts.

1. They make eye contact.

“We brush our teeth together. For those few minutes we look into each other’s eyes. We touch each other, a hand on the waist, hand on the cheek, head on the chest.” ― reader Brandi W.

2. They cuddle.

“My husband leaves for work before I can even imagine getting up and being a fully functional human being. So every morning after he’s gotten ready, he climbs back in bed and pulls me in close. And that five minutes, being close to one another, breath by breath, it’s the best way to start our day.” ― Meg Conley, marriage blogger

3. They try to get up around the same time when they can.

“Too many couples have two completely different morning routines and often barely see or speak to each other in the morning. I know of many partners who don’t even get up before their significant other is out of the house for the day ― and it’s not because he leaves at 4 a.m. or because she worked a swing shift. They just sleep late. As a couple, they don’t make it important to connect at the beginning of the day.” ― Dr. Kurt Smiththerapist who specializes in counseling for men

4. They enjoy a cup of coffee of tea together.

“My wife and I have breakfast together sitting on the front porch, side by side on the love seat. Even if it’s just for 15 minutes, we have our coffee and talk about plans for the day and watch the birds.” ― reader Steve T.

5. They kiss goodbye.

“It so important to us that we always show affection before one of us leaves. Usually he leaves for work an hour before I wake up so he always says goodbye with a kiss on my head. It’s not about me needing the affection but more so knowing he is thinking of me before he heads to work.” ― reader Rebecca C.

6. They put down their devices.

“Even if we only have five to 10 minutes before one or the other of us has to rush out the door or get on the phone, we sit down to have tea. No phones or iPads allowed. No claiming we don’t have time. Maybe we talk about something coming up in our day or something in the news. Maybe we just sit quietly. With life being as crazy busy as it is, it’s a way to slow down and connect before we launch into the day.” ― Winifred M. Reilly, marriage and family therapist

7. They divvy up the morning chores.

“Getting the kids up, ready and off to school every morning can be a real chore. Nothing says that this has to be the mom’s job, but frequently it is ― or at least the majority of it. Couples who are happier share these kinds of family and parental responsibilities. Working as a team in the morning builds connection and relationship happiness that carries through the day.” ― Dr. Kurt Smith

8. They smile, no matter how tired they are.

Mornings can be hectic for most people but it’s important to be able to at least smile at your partner. Even when trying to get ready and out the door, many happy couples find it natural to give a quick smile when interacting with their partner.” ― Dr. Marie Land, psychologist

8 Things You Didn’t Know About Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn’t put you on a set path, it doesn’t hold your hand, and we love it for that. Nintendo had to conduct a lot of experiments in order to make a dynamic, open world game like it.  We recently sat down with game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, technical director Takuhiro Dohta, and art director Satoru Takizawa to learn more about the process of creating one of the boldest entries in Nintendo’s lauded Zelda series.

Different teams take a variety of approaches when making prototypes at Nintendo according to Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi. “Even with the Zelda franchise, it’s different,” he said. “For example, Breath of the Wild started with less than 10 people.” Fujibayashi told us a small team can work on early ideas to make a game for roughly a year or possibly longer, and there isn’t a set time limit. The first phase is spent figuring out the game idea the team wants to make. Once the initial prototype is completed, the findings are presented to Nintendo’s senior staff. If it proves the ideas will work, the team begins staffing up.

11 Women Who Did Groundbreaking Things That Men Got The Credit For

The man who invented Monopoly did not invent Monopoly. Charles Darrow made millions off the game that he sold to Parker Brothers ― 30 years after a woman named Elizabeth Magie created it.

It’s a tale as old as time: A man took credit for a woman’s idea.

We’ve seen this theme play out through history, with women’s work being erased from the labor movement, civil rights movements, and over and over again in science.

In the spirit of unearthing the “hidden figures” whose stories often go untold, we’re highlighting remarkable women who, despite their contributions, were sidelined by men.

10 Things Anyone Who Loves An Introvert Needs To Know

Introverts often find themselves in romantic relationships with extroverts, despite their fundamental differences in temperament.

Perhaps it’s because they balance each other out. Introverts (or “innies”) ― who gain energy by spending time alone ― are drawn to extroverts because of their easy-breezy social nature. Extroverts (or “outies”) ― who recharge their batteries by spending time with other people ― may find themselves attracted to introverts because of their ability to listen and ground the more restless parts of the extrovert’s personality.

If you’re married to, dating or even just romantically interested in an introvert, below are 10 things our self-proclaimed “innie” readers want you to know.

1. Please don’t take our need for alone time personally.

“An introvert needs time alone, and it has nothing to do with you. She’s not mad, she’s not holding anything in and she certainly doesn’t need to ‘talk it out.’ She just needs to recharge so that when she does come back, she can be 100 percent in the moment with you. Giving her the space to do this without guilt or nagging means you both win in the end. My husband gladly backs off when I’m ‘introverting’ because he knows the payoff for our relationship is huge.” ― Betsy Talbot

2. Small talk is not our strong suit. Deeper conversations are where we shine.

“The general small talk chit-chat grates on my nerves ― I don’t like it and feel awkward trying to engage in it. However, discussions on more meaningful topics truly catch my interest and I can ramble on and on or listen at length with keen interest.” ― Julie Lombard

3. Don’t try to change us.

“Just let your introvert partner be him or herself. Understand that our personalities are different and that we have our own way of loving.” ― CM Dimen

4. That said, the occasional nudge to help us come out of our shells is welcome.

“While we might complain and whine, getting out is good for the balance of introvert-extrovert dating. It is ideal in a balanced relationship. If my wife never got me out, I might never go.” ― Darcy Johnston

5. Sometimes silence really is golden.

“It’s okay not to talk all the time. Sometimes the greatest intimacy is just being together in comfortable silence. It can be cuddling or it can be separate, but it’s okay to be quiet.”― Jenna Schulcz

6. We might be slow to warm up so just be patient, OK?

“I may appear quite serious at first; however, once I feel comfortable around you, then I open up more and reveal my rather quirky, silly and witty side. I truly am such a friendly, sweet-natured oddball that yearns for friendships and a boyfriend but I need to be invited to join a discussion or event otherwise I feel like I am being a bother or intrusive.” ― Julie Lombard

7. Understand our need to decompress after a long day.

“Most of us are out in the world all day and are drained when we get home. We need some quiet recharge time, and having someone ask us how our day was, what happened, etc. is very off-putting. Give us 15 to 30 minutes just to be quiet and recharge a bit. We’ll be happy to talk and catch up, we just need some time first.” ― Jenna Schulcz

8. You don’t need to tell us we’re quiet ― we already know.

“Please, for the love of god, don’t comment on how quiet we are. We know. Sometimes we just need quiet time. When we’re ready to talk we will, just have some patience.” ― Mia Montez Lopez

9. We might require more low-key nights at home than you do.

“Don’t challenge your partner’s desire to spend a few nights at home by pointing out that ‘normal people’ go out on weekends.” ― Nicholas Mercuro

10. We prefer to gather our thoughts instead of thinking out loud.

“An introvert likes to think about things, so if you spring a new topic or pick a fight, don’t be surprised if you don’t get the level of participation you want from your introvert lover. Our default stance is to consider, to play things out in our heads before opening our mouths. Give us time to do that, and you’ll get the kind of conversation or debate you were looking for. We have some of our best conversations and liveliest arguments on our morning walks because my extrovert husband will lay the groundwork for the topic the afternoon before (politics, personal matters, where to go on vacation next, etc.)” ― Betsy Talbot

Mural Shows 37 Real And Repulsive Things Politicians Have Said About Women

The time to remain silent about misogyny and discrimination is over. As artist Zoë Buckman told The Huffington Post: “We all have a responsibility to act now.”

Buckman joined forces with fellow feminist artist Natalie Frank to call out some of the real and entirely repulsive statements said by politicians about women and their bodies, in a painful yet necessary project called “We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident.”

The artists were inspired to do something about the rampant sexism that has long plagued politics after President Donald Trump’s comments about grabbing women “by the pussy” surfaced. “Women have been so traumatized about the language Trump used,” Frank told The Huffington Post, “the way he talks about sexual violence, the way he mocks it.”

Unfortunately, Trump is far from the first elected official to make shameful and abhorrent comments about women’s rights and health. Frank and Buckman resolved to unearth some of the most heinous comments and share them with the public. The mural is now on view for all to see, in the Ford Foundation Live Gallery at New York Live Arts.

“Researching the quotes was tough, emotionally,” Buckman said. “Seeing these words typed out, reading sentiment after sentiment of disrespect and hatred, the preposterous absence of science, fact, or reality, the utter lack of compassion, and the blatant misogyny: It’s blindingly clear that there is a war on women right now and that there always has been.”

The mural includes quotes by both liberal and conservative politicians, including Mike Pence, Ben Carson, Bill Clinton and Rick Santorum. The first quote, credited to former Wisconsin State Assembly member Roger Rivard, reads: “Some girls, they rape so easy.”

The statements are projected atop an image of a group of older white men gathered around a table. Atop the mantle sits a painting of a nude odalisque, referencing the long history of objectification aimed at women’s bodies, both in politics and art.

“It hasn’t been 100 years since women got the right to vote,” Frank added. “There is a real fragility there, and a gravity to women taking a stand for themselves and their rights. If there is anything this election has shown us [it’s that] the things we take for granted can be wiped out.”

“We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident” is now on view in the Ford Foundation Live Gallery at New York Live Arts, and will be up throughout the spring season.

WATCH: “Finding” the Time to Do Things

Do you have things you’d like to do, but keep putting them off until you “find the time”…? And in today’s busy world, where we are constantly bombarded with different things to give our attention to, how often does that strategy actually work out? Here’s a video to help you stop kidding yourself, and start enhancing your chances of success.

If you are new to tapping, it will be beneficial to also watch the first episode in the “Tap Out Your Fears” series — which explains the basics of EFT — click here.

As with any of my tapping videos, this is an abbreviated process for releasing uncomfortable feelings and enhancing good ones. Some folks may find their fear dissolve after just one tapping session, but for others, it will take some repetition, bringing the discomfort down little by little each time. (Still others may uncover specific issues that are best addressed directly with a wellness practitioner.) In any event, this brief video should help at least take the edge off the discomfort, freeing you up to enjoy life much more. Let us know how it helped you!

For a picture of the tapping points — and more info on EFT — click here.

Tapping can sometimes bring up long-buried emotions, which is why I state that, before tapping along, folks must take full responsibility for their own well-being. For more information about that, please read this disclaimer.

Until next time, feel free to tap along with any of the many videos I have on YouTube or the many recordings I have at www.TapWithBrad.com.

An unattractive fat young man with pimples and solitary habits finds a brooch behind some dustbins outside his flat and recognizes it as belonging to an old woman who lives down the road from him. The next day a policeman knocks on his door and tells him that the old woman has been found dead in her flat. Things begin to stir in the fat young man’s mind and that night he has a dream in which she tells him she has been murdered and that the brooch is a clue to the identity of the killer. He is increasingly beset by troubling visions and cryptic dreams as forgotten memories begin to bubble to the surface: a pipe-smoking man who paints toy soldiers; a frightening woman with a tattoo of a snake on her breast; an unearthly storm that sweeps him off to a strange bedroom where a giant of a man with jangling keys stands menacingly over him. The final straw comes when he sees the dead old woman walk past his window wearing the brooch he believes to be in his kitchen drawer. Now, deep in his madness he searches desperately for the missing brooch and his sanity among the dustbins where he first found it. The story now continues with a child being carried through a dark stormy night by the pipe man. They are running from something terrible that has happened. The bruised and bleeding child clutches his mother’s brooch which the pipe man bought for her from a young lady in a shop called the Pink Paradise. It is early morning when he regretfully abandons the boy outside this young lady’s shop and then flees into the night. The lady takes the child home and cares for him despite the protests of her husband, a brutal prison Warden. The woman and child fall in love with each other and spend an idyllic few weeks together before the Warden reports the boy to the authorities. The child is put into an orphanage, but only after the lady has given the child a special farewell supper where he presents her with his mother’s brooch as a token of his love. Meanwhile the boy’s real mother, the wom

10 Things Truly Confident People Do Differently

2017-02-09-1486663049-3269831-10ThingsTrulyConfidentPeopleDoDifferentlyHP.jpeg

True confidence–as opposed to the false confidence people project to mask their insecurities–has a look all its own. One thing is certain: truly confident people always have the upper hand over the doubtful and the skittish because they inspire others and they make things happen.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”
– Henry Ford

Ford’s notion that your mentality has a powerful effect on your ability to succeed is seen in the results of a recent study at the University of Melbourne that showed that confident people earn higher wages and get promoted more quickly than anyone else.

Indeed, confident people have a profound impact on everyone they encounter. Yet, they achieve this only because they exert so much influence inside, on themselves.

We see only their outside. We see them innovate, speak their mind, and propel themselves forward toward bigger and better things.

And, yet, we’re missing the best part.

We don’t see the habits they develop to become so confident. It’s a labor of love that they pursue behind the scenes, every single day.

And while what people are influenced by changes with the season, the unique habits of truly confident people remain constant. Their focused pursuit is driven by these habits that you can emulate and absorb:

1. They speak with certainty. It’s rare to hear the truly confident utter phrases such as “Um,” “I’m not sure,” and “I think.” Confident people speak assertively because they know that it’s difficult to get people to listen to you if you can’t deliver your ideas with conviction.

2. They seek out small victories. Confident people like to challenge themselves and compete, even when their efforts yield small victories. Small victories build new androgen receptors in the areas of the brain responsible for reward and motivation. The increase in androgen receptors increases the influence of testosterone, which further increases their confidence and eagerness to tackle future challenges. When you have a series of small victories, the boost in your confidence can last for months.

3. They exercise. A study conducted at the Eastern Ontario Research Institute found that people who exercised twice a week for 10 weeks felt more competent socially, academically, and athletically. They also rated their body image and self-esteem higher. Best of all, rather than the physical changes in their bodies being responsible for the uptick in confidence, it was the immediate, endorphin-fueled positivity from exercise that made all the difference.

4. They don’t seek attention. People are turned off by those who are desperate for attention. Confident people know that being yourself is much more effective than trying to prove that you’re important. People catch on to your attitude quickly and are more attracted to the right attitude than what, or how many, people you know. Confident people always seem to bring the right attitude.

Confident people are masters of attention diffusion. When they’re receiving attention for an accomplishment, they quickly shift the focus to all the people who worked hard to help get them there. They don’t crave approval or praise because they draw their self-worth from within.

5. They don’t pass judgment.
Confident people don’t pass judgment on others because they know that everyone has something to offer, and they don’t need to take other people down a notch in order to feel good about themselves. Comparing yourself to other people is limiting. Confident people don’t waste time sizing people up and worrying about whether or not they measure up to everyone they meet.

6. They get their happiness from within. Happiness is a critical element of confidence, because in order to be confident in what you do, you have to be happy with who you are. People who brim with confidence derive their sense of pleasure and satisfaction from their own accomplishments, as opposed to what other people think of their accomplishments.

7. They listen more than they speak.
People with confidence listen more than they speak because they don’t feel as though they have anything to prove. Confident people know that by actively listening and paying attention to others, they are much more likely to learn and grow. Instead of seeing interactions as opportunities to prove themselves to others, they focus on the interaction itself, because they know that this is a far more enjoyable and productive approach to people. If you struggle with this, emotional intelligence training can help.

8. They take risks. When confident people see an opportunity, they take it. Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, they ask themselves, “What’s stopping me? Why can’t I do that?” and they go for it. Fear doesn’t hold them back because they know that if they never try, they will never succeed.

9. They aren’t afraid to be wrong. Confident people aren’t afraid to be proven wrong. They like putting their opinions out there to see if they hold up because they learn a lot from the times they are wrong and other people learn from them when they’re right. Self-assured people know what they are capable of and don’t treat being wrong as a personal slight.

10. They celebrate other people’s successes.
Insecure people constantly doubt their relevance, and because of this, they try to steal the spotlight and criticize others in order to prove their worth. Confident people, on the other hand, aren’t worried about their relevance because they draw their self-worth from within. Instead of insecurely focusing inward, confident people focus outward, which allows them to see all the wonderful things that other people bring to the table. Praising people for their contributions is a natural result of this.

Bringing It All Together

Building confidence is a journey, not a destination. To become more confident you must be passionate in your pursuit of a greater future.

Please share your thoughts on confidence in the comments section below, as I learn just as much from you as you do from me.

3 Things We Wish Bill Maher Would

First of all, a confession: I probably agree with 90% of Bill’s Maher’s political/ideological positions, so the piddling complaints that follow aren’t the result of any fundamental difference in philosophy or political doctrine.

As far as I’m concerned, Bill Maher’s view of the world is very much in synch with my own. In fact, if he and I were to sit down at a neighborhood bar (I with a cheap domestic beer, he with a top-of-the-line reefer) and discuss politics, we could very likely go a whole hour without a single meaningful dispute.

My beef is more “personal” than ideological, more about “style” than “substance.” Alas, it seems that somewhere along the line Mr. Bill Maher has fallen hopelessly in love with himself. This has altered his act, and not in a good way. As a consequence of that high self-regard, he now comes off as some sort of a “latter day prophet” or elder statesman rather than a stand-up comic.

With all due respect, here are 3 things I wish Bill would do:

1. Grab on to a little humility, dude. You’re funny, you’re quick, you’re entertaining, but you’re no comedic or political genius. Mort Sahl, Richard Pryor and George Carlin were geniuses. As talented as you are, you ain’t one of those guys. Also, didn’t Mort Sahl, George Carlin and Richard Pryor write their own material? At the end of your HBO show we see listed the names of 6-8 co-writers. Show a little modesty.

2. Don’t be such an obvious “applause whore.” It is so damned annoying to watch you stop talking–to stop delivering your jokes and come to a complete halt–so long as even one person in the audience is still applauding. It makes you look insecure and weirdly “needy.”

You should do what Jimmy Kimmel does during his monologue. Understandably not wanting to have his next joke drowned out by applause, Kimmel will wait a moment for the applause to die down after a particularly funny remark.

But one thing Kimmel doesn’t do is destroy the pace. He doesn’t stand there waiting for that one appreciative guy in Row 3 to stop clapping before continuing. He keeps it going, which is what you need to do, Bill. Stop milking it.

3. Also, in the same vein, don’t look at the audience with dismay or disapproval when they don’t laugh at a particular gag or when, God forbid, they actually boo or groan at something you say. Again, not only does that make you seem prickly and unnecessarily “desperate,” it disrupts the flow; it alters the mood.

You need to remind yourself that this is a comedy show, not a townhall meeting, political convention or self-improvement seminar. Instead of “challenging” or scolding the audience (and I’ve seen you do this too many times) when they appear to disagree or underappreciate one of your gags, you need to keep your shtick rolling.

Finally, you have to remind yourself that, as perceptive, well informed and sharp as you may be (and you are all of those things), you are not a philosopher. You are not an icon and you’re not a fountain of wisdom. In the final analysis you’re a comic, and a damned good one. Basically, you need to channel Shecky Greene rather than Walter Lippman. Is that too much to ask?

Ten Things You Need to do Before You Turn Thirty

What are 10 things that you should definitely do before turning 30? originally appeared on Quorathe place to gain and share knowledge, empowering people to learn from others and better understand the world.

Answer by Max Lukominskyi, Founder of Perfect Impulse, on Quora:

Ten things you should definitely do before you turn thirty:

  1. Get Your Heart Broken. It is not the most pleasant experience in life. Unfortunately, it is inevitable. However, it is the invaluable lesson everyone should go through. Get your heart broken to learn the hard way how cruel and tough the life can be.
  2. Realize That Life Has Already Begun. The sooner you do this the sooner you will be able to start doing the things that matter. Every decision matters and every choice counts. There is no interlude. Nor is there a trial version. Therefore, strive to live a meaningful life now.
  3. Write An Article. Develop a strong point of view regarding the particular issue and do your best to express your thoughts in the best way possible. Get your voice featured on the popular outlet and praise yourself for this small accomplishment.
  4. Master A Valuable Skill. Your ability to apply your knowledge and produce some great results is what lets you stand out and makes others pay you for your services. Opt for mastery and strive to become the best at what you do.
  5. Slay Your Fears. Stop living your fears as soon as possible. Do not enter the fourth decade of your life being afraid of trivial things. Learn to live beyond your comfort zone and slay your fears to live the life to the fullest.
  6. Establish A Few Useful Connections. You cannot know everyone and know how to do everything. The good thing is that you do not need to. Meanwhile, you can meet some great people that can give a valuable advice or come in your hour of need.
  7. Live Abroad For At Least A Year. Living abroad is not always fun and easy. This experience is often full of struggle and difficulties. Learn how to adapt to and survive in unfamiliar environments. Find out how to meet new friends and get used to a different culture.
  8. Establish A Good Habit Attitude. Then you won`t need to break a bad one. Habits might seem innocuous daily actions that do not make any impact on your life. In fact, they define how productive and successful you are. Adopt the habits that are the perfect fit for a person you`d like to be.
  9. Define Your Goals. Make sure you are not going to float along after you are 30. Make sure you get closer to the things you want to accomplish with every step you take. Make sure you know what you want and channel your energy towards attaining your goals.
  10. Get Into Challenging Environment. If you are not willing to start stagnating too soon, surround yourself with the people that are smarter, stronger and faster than you. They will motivate you to catch up and become better than you ever thought possible.
