Inside Taylor Hall’s transformation — and what’s next

Jacqie Rivera Reveals the Secrets Behind Her 70-Pound Weight Loss and Transformation

Reality star Jacqie Rivera lost a whopping 70 pounds and feels as amazing as she looks. The daughter of Jenni Rivera and famous sibling shares her weight-loss journey in the new season of Universo’s reality show The Riveras, airing in March. The 27-year-old also reveals what her divorce process from the father of her children has been like and how she is adapting to her new life as a single mom.

Her transformation inspiration? “What motivated me is my children. I was starting to see that I didn’t have enough energy to be a good mom, and I wanted to be a good example,” she said about working toward a healthier lifestyle in a promotional video she shared with PEOPLE CHICA. “As you can see in my social media, I’m staying focused. I don’t work out all the time but when I can — and I’m just eating healthy. It actually makes me feel better. I just have more energy now, so I think I’m going to keep doing it.”

Jacqie — in her fuller figure “before” photo in pink dress (above) — began her metamorphosis in October 2016 by waking up at 5:30 in the morning, before her children, and doing cardio on exercise machines at home. She also said goodbye to junk food, including sodas and her favorite chili chips. Learning to eat nutritious and balanced meals and having a more active lifestyle allowed her to shed the unwanted pounds. She is now using a personal trainer to get more toned.

“It’s sometimes overwhelming doing everything I do,” she admitted. “Being a single mom of three and working for my mom’s nonprofit organization and even trying to pursue my own dreams and goals. It’s all balance. And staying close to God because that’s the only way I can stay sane.”

She also opens up about divorce from Mike Campos after five years of marriage in the upcoming third season of the reality show, which also stars her siblings, Chiquis Rivera, Johnny Lopez, Jenicka Lopez and Mikey Marin. “On The Riveras you guys are going to be able to see me in my whole process of being separated and trying to make it work and then finally going through the divorce process. I’m trying to stay positive. It’s hard, it’s a big change, but that’s life and I have to keep pushing. I have three kids to live for so I got to stay strong,” she added.

Jacqie admits that being a mother has helped her understand her own mom, the late Mexican singer Jenni Rivera, better. “I think my kids are my life-savers. Without them, I think I’d be completely crazy. I’m not a perfect mom and now I understand my mom so much more. I think I used to be hard on her and now I can understand what it’s like to be a single mom,” she admitted. “I don’t want to pretend that I’m a perfect mom. I want them to see me for what I am and show them that no, we are never going to be perfect, but we can fight to be better, and they are the reason that I’m better.”

Model Who Used To Eat 500 Calories A Day Shares Stunning Transformation

Horror stories from within the modeling industry are all too common, but each time a new one comes out, it serves as an opportunity to highlight the change that needs to happen toward a healthier, more inclusive environment. It also provides an outlet for the brave women who share those stories.

Liza Golden-Bhojwani, a model who currently lives in India, has been in and out of the modeling industry over the years, most recently getting back to work in 2016. She recently shared harrowing side-by-side images of herself ― one from her first Fashion Week in 2012, and one from today.

A little flashback Friday action for you. This caption will be long and won't fit, so if you'd like to read please find the rest in the comment section….The left side was me at the start of the peak of my career. My first proper fashion week where I was actually the size I needed to be. I was booking amazing shows that one never thinks they actually could, walking with girls who I once looked up to, it was a serious adrenaline rush…but after fainting one night in my apt whilst preparing one of my very low cal meals (I think it was 20 pieces of steamed edamame if I remember correctly), I called it quits with the diet and workout regime I was put on and decided I could do it on my own. I thought to myself, I can still be this thin, but I'll just eat a little more so I don't feel so horrible. Well, eating a little more turned into eating nearly a bag full of almonds, which then turned into eating full size meals, which then turned into a full blown binge. I was craving every single food you could imagine and I was giving in to every craving even though I knew this was such an important time in my career. I made it through NYFW okay, no one had noticed any weight gain, but by the time I had gotten the LFW I could see the pounds starting to show both in the mirror and on the measuring tape, but I kept quiet obviously not wanting to sabotage myself. I found myself going to the grocery store and picking up raw vegetables to try and make up for the near two week binge I had in NY, but I didn't see any weight coming off no matter how "healthy" I was eating and no matter how many workouts I fit in. MFW came and I knew I was bigger and by bigger I mean a 35.5in hip rather than the 34.5in hip I started with in NY, I played it cool and just pretended everything was normal. I did end up booking shows, Dolce & Gabbana being one of them. Which I afterwards received online criticism about my thighs looking fat…Anyways PFW came about, and I found it impossible to resist those chocolate croissants I went on many a casting with one exclusive option being on my schedule, but after meeting the client I knew the reason for me not nailing the gig, my size…

A post shared by Liza Golden-Bhojwani (@lizagoldenreal) on

In a lengthy accompanying caption, she heartbreakingly referred to her size in the left photo as what she “needed to be” to actually book runway jobs.

Bhojwani unraveled the struggle she faced during that first fateful string of shows, where she recalled eating 20 pieces of steamed edamame as a meal and binge eating her way up from a 34.5- to a 36.5-inch hip measurement throughout the month. She explained that as she traveled from London to Milan to Paris, the show offers dwindled. “I knew the reason for me not nailing the gig, my size,” she wrote.

I just wanted to put this out there… if you see me hashtag #unretouched on a photo, I truly mean it is not retouched at all. My husband shoots with me an i7plus or a Canon G9x in my personal pics…I have been modelling for 10 years and counting, so I know how to pose, angle my body, and I know what light works. All it really takes is good lighting to get a pretty amazing photo even with an iPhone! I have no reason to lie about photoshopping, I am constantly photoshopped in most of my photos because I am a model and at the end of the day whatever the client wants is what they get…On another note, for those of you who are constantly telling me to exercise save your breath! For the 20th time, I work out 5 times a week with a personal trainer, I have toned my stomach/bum up a lot in the past few weeks, clearly enough to make some of you think I'm sitting around photoshopping my candid insta pics. If you're looking for a size 0 model, unfollow me, get off my page, and follow someone else. That's not me, and never will be me again. I am the healthiest and strongest I have ever been. And that is all I care about. Before you open your mouth to comment on someone else's physical appearance on social media, look in the mirror and ask yourself "Do I love myself?". If you truly love yourself, you would never publicly abuse another human being with harsh words and comments. Freedom of speech does not mean you should feel free to abuse people. Spread love, not hate. #loveyourself #unretouched #naturallight #thisisme #effyourbeautystandards #shineon #bodypositive #lovetheskinyourein Photo credit: @thirdeyejedi

A post shared by Liza Golden-Bhojwani (@lizagoldenreal) on

In 2014, she decided to revisit modeling and got into shape in a healthier way, through exercise and a more sustainable diet. But even though she called it the most fit she’d been in her life, it still wasn’t enough “for the likes of VS [Victoria’s Secret] or other brands.”

It was on a trip to India, Bhojwani explained, when things changed. She met her now husband, picked up all her belongings and moved there. Now not only does she have a healthier outlook on life, but she also has a totally different relationship with her body.

“The picture on the right of me as of right now, my body as it is,” she wrote. “Not perfect, not show ready or VS ready, not the best, but it is mine and my soul is happy.”

Bhowjani also wrote that now she works out, eats what she wants without feeling guilty about it and does it all solely for herself. “Maybe I wasn’t made to be on the covers of magazines and shooting the biggest and best brands, but I was made for a reason,” she wrote. “I do deserve to be happy and feel fulfilled. We all do. Maybe I was made to share this story and spread the message of body love to all the women out there struggling.”

While we wouldn’t exactly agree that Bhojwani doesn’t belong as the front of a major photoshoot, we are inspired by her honesty, her story and her words of self-love.

All white everything ❤ #bodylove #loveyourself #effyourbeautystandards

The Transformation of Political Culture in Cuba

The Transformation of Political Culture in Cuba

Ducks herein dealt with belong not to the quack-quack tribe. Bombay Ducks is a time-honoured A nglo Indian expression. In the palmy days of the East India Company, when the now-barren pagoda-tree showered its fruits upon a Uwho shook it, the European residents of the Western Presidency were known as Bombay Ducks to distinguish them from Bengal Qui-his and Madras Mulls. In very early times Ducks was spelt Duckys and is probably a corruption of the Latin duces leaders or -bosses. Dwellers in Bombay are no longer called ducks, nevertheless the expression Bombay Ducks or Bombay Duck st Qlsurvives. It now denotes (I know not why) brittle pieces of sun-dried fish which are eaten with curry in South I ndia. It seems to me that the animals dealt with in this volume, all of which are to be found on the Bombay side, have at least an equal right with pieces of dried fish to be called Bombay Ducks.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don’t occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books’ Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings. Why the Garden Club Couldn't Save Youngstown: The Transformation of the Rust Belt

Why the Garden Club Couldn't Save Youngstown: The Transformation of the Rust Belt

In this book, Sean Safford compares the recent history of Allentown, Pennsylvania, with that of Youngstown, Ohio. Allentown has seen a noticeable rebound over the course of the past twenty years. Facing a collapse of its steel-making firms, its economy has reinvented itself by transforming existing companies, building an entrepreneurial sector, and attracting inward investment. Youngstown was similar to Allentown in its industrial history, the composition of its labor force, and other important variables, and yet instead of adapting in the face of acute economic crisis, it fell into a mean race to the bottom.

Challenging various theoretical perspectives on regional socioeconomic change, Why the Garden Club Couldn’t Save Youngstown argues that the structure of social networks among the cities’ economic, political, and civic leaders account for the divergent trajectories of post-industrial regions. It offers a probing historical explanation for the decline, fall, and unlikely rejuvenation of the Rust Belt. Emphasizing the power of social networks to shape action, determine access to and control over information and resources, define the contexts in which problems are viewed, and enable collective action in the face of externally generated crises, this book points toward present-day policy prescriptions for the ongoing plight of mature industrial regions in the U.S. and abroad.

Meet the Woman Behind Beyoncé’s Street Style Transformation

by EDWARD BARSAMIAN

“She wears the crown for all the work that she’s put into the industry,” says Beyoncé’s personal wardrobe curator, Zerina Akers. “But I also want her to have fun. After all she is a woman.”

Over the past year, Akers has worked with the multiplatinum superstar analyzing the right cuts, fits, and silhouettes solidifying Queen Bey’s place in fashion royalty–one which the consummately best-dressed singer maintains through not only her own wardrobe, but a forthcoming partnership with Topshop, too. But there’s another, equally stylish side of the pop icon, and anyone who visits the 33-year-old’s Instagram or website will notice: Recently she has been upping her fashion game with seemingly impromptu shoots no matter where in the world she happens to be. We’ve also seen Bey sport some names outside the runway regulars including Harbison, Marco de Vincenzo, and Romeo Hunte–courtesy of Akers. “I really wanted to bring in some new designers, some younger kids to see what they’re doing,” Akers told us recently, adding, “and then incorporate more international designers and underground streetwear designers out of London.”

It’s been a masterful evolution for the singer who has lately taken to bold color, feminine prints, and punchy accessories. For the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, Mrs. Carter slipped into a cardinal Harbison jumpsuit, while another occasion saw her opt for a tailored, canary yellow Zadig & Voltaire suit emphasizing the star’s renewed focus on rainbow-like shades. “I wanted to be a little more experimental with color,” says Akers, adding, “like the orange Cushnie et Ochs top and pink Dsquared2 shorts. She’s such a bright person and I feel like in fashion today everyone strays away from color.”

However, one outfit that Akers references as a favorite was an all-cream look Beyoncé wore earlier this summer, which hinted at the shift in wardrobe that’s sophisticated and clean, but accessible: Pairing a topper from Barneys New York with Frame Denim jeans, her ensemble was a study in how to approach neutral dressing at all price points. “High-low is all about color selection, shape, and fabrication of the garment,” explains Akers. “I can get a skirt for $ 50 in matte jersey. It’s going to move and hug the body in a similar way as a skirt that’s $ 795.” Akers says the secret to her A-list client’s style comes down to the fit: She and Bey have been gravitating toward asymmetrical and bias cuts.

But the best part of her role, the stylist maintains, is being able see Beyoncé excited about the looks. “That’s the reward,” says Akers matter-of-factly. “That she’s enjoying herself and feels beautiful and confident.” How else, after all, to run the world?

Chicken: The Dangerous Transformation of America’s Favorite Food

Chicken: The Dangerous Transformation of America’s Favorite Food

Anthropologist Steve Striffler begins this book in a poultry processing plant, drawing on his own experiences there as a worker. He also reports on the way chickens are raised today and how they are consumed. What he discovers about America’s favorite meat is not just unpleasant but a powerful indictment of our industrial food system. The process of bringing chicken to our dinner tables is unhealthy for all concerned-from farmer to factory worker to consumer. The book traces the development of the poultry industry since the Second World War, analyzing the impact of such changes as the destruction of the family farm, the processing of chicken into nuggets and patties, and the changing makeup of the industrial labor force. The author describes the lives of immigrant workers and their reception in the small towns where they live. The conclusion is clear: there has to be a better way. Striffler proposes radical but practical change, a plan that promises more humane treatment of chickens, better food for the consumer, and fair payment for food workers and farmers.

Travel, Discovery, Transformation

Travel, Discovery, Transformation

This latest volume in the Culture & Civilization series gathers interdisciplinary voices to present a collection of essays on travel and travel narratives. The essays span a range of topics from iconic ancient travel stories to modern tourism. They discuss travel in the ancient world, modern heroic travels, the literary culture of missionary travel, the intersection of fiction and travel narratives, modern literary traditions and visions of Greece, personal identity, and expatriation. Essays also address travel memoirs, the re-imagining of worlds through travel, transformed landscapes and animals in travel narratives, diplomacy, English women travel writers, and pilgrimage and health in the medieval world. The history of travel writing takes in multiple pursuits: exploration and conquest, religious pilgrimage and missionary work, educational tourism and diplomacy, scientific and personal discovery, and natural history and oral history. As a literary genre, it has enhanced a wide range of disciplines, including geography, ethnography, anthropology, and linguistics. Moreover, twenty-first-century interests in travel and travel writing have produced a global framework that promises to expand travel’s theoretical reach into the depths of the Internet, thus challenging our conventional concept of what it means to travel. The fact that travel and travel writing have a prehistory that is embedded in foundational religious texts and ancient narratives of journey, like the Odyssey and the Epic of Gilgamesh, makes both travel and travel writing fundamental and essential expressions of humanity. Travel encourages writing, particularly as epistolary and poetic chronicling. This is clearly a history and tradition that began with human communication and which has kept pace with our collective development.

What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848

The Oxford History of the United States is by far the most respected multi-volume history of our nation. In this Pulitzer prize-winning, critically acclaimed addition to the series, historian Daniel Walker Howe illuminates the period from the battle of New Orleans to the end of the Mexican-American War, an era when the United States expanded to the Pacific and won control over the richest part of the North American continent. A panoramic narrative, What Hath God Wrought portrays revolutionary improvements in transportation and communications that accelerated the extension of the American empire. Railroads, canals, newspapers, and the telegraph dramatically lowered travel times and spurred the spread of information. These innovations prompted the emergence of mass political parties and stimulated America’s economic development from an overwhelmingly rural country to a diversified economy in which commerce and industry took their place alongside agriculture. In his story, the author weaves together political and military events with social, economic, and cultural history. Howe examines the rise of Andrew Jackson and his Democratic party, but contends that John Quincy Adams and other Whigs–advocates of public education and economic integration, defenders of the rights of Indians, women, and African-Americans–were the true prophets of America’s future. In addition, Howe reveals the power of religion to shape many aspects of American life during this period, including slavery and antislavery, women’s rights and other reform movements, politics, education, and literature. Howe’s story of American expansion culminates in the bitterly controversial but brilliantly executed war waged against Mexico to gain California and Texas for the United States. The Transformation of the Psyche in British Primary Care, 1880-1970: Critical Insights into Psychology and Medicine, 1880-1980

The Transformation of the Psyche in British Primary Care, 1880-1970: Critical Insights into Psychology and Medicine, 1880-1980

Conflicting models of selfhood have become central to debates over modern medicine. Newspaper columnists and new age gurus claim that the roots of many of our physical ailments lie in repressed experiences and emotions. Critics of biomedicine argue that a renewed engagement with the patient’s inner feelings is needed to humanise contemporary clinical practice. Government initiatives extend medicine’s remit beyond the maintenance of the population’s health to the achievement of ‘well-being’: the psychological state of the population is now used to benchmark the effectiveness and success of policies. These debates, in turn, have helped shape contemporary culture. Concepts of ‘stress’ and ‘psychosomatic illness’ have become part of every-day speech, allowing us to interpret physical disorders as a commentary on our personal troubles or adverse circumstances. Yet we still lack a clear historical account of how this psychological sensibility came to be established.Psychology and Medicine in Modern Britain will remedy this situation by demonstrating that there is nothing inevitable about the current connection between health, identity and personal history. It traces the changing conception of the psyche in Britain over the last two centuries and it demonstrates how these changes were rooted in transformed patterns of medical care. The shifts from private medicine through to National Insurance and the National Health Service fostered different kinds of relationship between doctor and patient and different understandings of psychological distress. Psychology and Medicine in Modern Britain examines these transformations and, in so doing, provides new critical insights into our modern sense of identity and changing notions of health that will be of great value to anyone interested in the modern history of British medicine.
