Others went for bold, colorful looks with balayage highlights and full coloring in pastel hues of pink, purple and blue.

Name, Age, Occupation & Hometown: Bachelor Stats Reveal Trends Among Contestants

Throughout the past 22 seasons of The Bachelor, audiences have watched hundreds of women of varying ages, names and occupations compete for the final rose.

As a way “to see if there was any location bias” with the selected contestant since season 1 of The Bachelor premiered in 2002, Homes.com decided to examine the stats surrounding the show.

“It quickly became clear that there were a ton of interesting stats on The Bachelor, specifically focusing on the ‘ideal contestant,’ including her ideal location. We thought this was fun, relevant, and might inspire folks living in that area to apply as a contestant knowing, at least from a statistical standpoint, that they have a higher chance of being selected by the producers,” says Homes.com’s Vice President of Search Marketin, gGrant Simmons, whose “data sources were bachelor wikis, databases, and a collection of Homes.com team members.”

“It was great to identify the ‘ideal contestant’ and that is — drum roll please — a 36-year-old nurse from Atlanta named Jennifer,” says Simmons.

From their research, Homes.com found that Lauren is the most popular Bachelor contestant first name, with Sarah, Ashley and Amber tying for the second spot. (Will that stat fair well for current season 22 contestant Lauren B.? Find out next week on Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s dramatic finale!)

“Lauren is the most popular contestant name (15 mentions), but it was the average Jennifer who won the most roses (average of 4.88 vs. Lauren’s 3),” says Simmons.

As for cities that breed the most contestants, Chicago, Illinois, was the top spot, with Los Angeles, California, coming in second and Dallas, Texas, as a close third.

“Chicago, Los Angeles, and Dallas topped the list of most contestants with Chicago (19) having three times as many, and Dallas (12) having twice as many as Atlanta (6), our top city for winners,” says Simmons.

He explains: “California has the most contestants (103), most likely because it’s the most populous state, but it’s the top corners of the country and the Midwest that appears to have more contestants that catch the Bachelor’s eye.”

“The most surprising outcome of the data is that California, for all its sun, beaches, lifestyle and really expensive homes (in the top cities of L.A. and San Diego), doesn’t rate very well when it comes to roses given,” he shares. “Although that may be a numbers game with their 103 contestants averaging one of the lowest rose counts in the country.”

Bachelor Nation fans may or may not be surprised to learn that the majority of contestants were aged 25, with 26 coming in second and 24 in third place.

“It’s apparently true that Bachelors love the older women with the two 36-year-old contestants earning an average of six roses during their appearances,” Simmons explains. “On the flip side, it seems like nobody likes you when you’re 25, at least on The Bachelor. While that is the most common contestant age overall, it is also essentially the worst performing age.”

According to Homes.com’s research, the most common profession for contestants was teacher, second was student and third was in real estate.

The Bachelor airs Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.

What to Watch: The Trends

From baggy denim silhouettes and casual corduroys to unexpected statement logos, the fall runways offered a flood of fashion trends for men — a few of which will undoubtedly migrate from the catwalk to the mainstream over coming seasons. As Nelson Mui, men’s fashion director for Hudson’s Bay at the time, said in February during the shows: “With the political and business climate so uncertain, it felt like everyone wanted the comfort of commercial trends. It was the most commercial season in a while.” Here, a look at some of the men’s trends hitting store floors now.

Millennial Fashion Trends and Purges at Resale

Data from online thrift store ThredUp shows what brands and items are hot and trending this summer, as well as what consumers are purging from their closets.
As for trends, hello Millennial pink — still the hot color for summer, but that means goodbye to coral. According to the resale site, there’s been a 99 percent increase in items purchased in the new shade of pink, while the site reported a 104 percent increase in purged coral-shaded bags and apparel items.
Metallics on the print side are in, with a 99 percent increase in purchased items, while floral prints saw a 104 percent increase in items purged from closets and sent to ThredUp.
ThredUp consumers — many of whom are Millennials — are searching for wide-legged jeans, and there was a 10 percent increase in items that featured the wide-legged style in a medium wash. Excised from closets — at a 103 percent increase — were cropped jeans in dark washes. Still hot among consumers is distressed denim, which was purchased 85 percent more than the average on the resale site. Losing some of its cool factor are apparel items — including jeans — with frayed edges, which are being purged 2.7 percent

Ready-to-Wear Fabrics, Silhouettes Key Trends at Miami Swim Week

MIAMI — Resortwear’s evolution into a year-round business and lifestyle was clearly on display at the annual Miami Swim Week.
During the three trade shows — the longest and largest being SwimShow with four days and 2,500 lines, followed by Cabana and Hammock — buyers wrote more orders and immediates and vendors showed their move from two collections a year to fast-fashion’s model of multiple deliveries for constant newness. The line has blurred between resort and ready-to-wear, whether beach-to-street styles or a swimsuit and bodysuit hybrid.
“We don’t even call it resortwear anymore but elevated destination wear,” said Roge Hanlon, swim director for Fiftytwo showroom, regarding Adriana Degreas’ silk and silk georgette blouses and dresses that work back to triangle tops and one-pieces. “These pieces don’t restrict women from going to their next stop, and we all know how terrible traffic can be.”
Skin Worldwide Inc. further illustrated the trend with its entrance into swimwear, which was shown at Cabana. The collection, introduced for resort 2017, is targeted as an answer to the question: “As you travel through the day, wouldn’t it be nice if your beachwear did, too?” The collection is as much resortwear as swimwear, featuring reversible maillots and bikini tops and

Swim and Active Collective Shows Highlight 2018 Trends, Brisk Business

Swimwear and activewear buyers got a leg up on the action and preview of spring 2018 trends during last week’s Swim Collective and Active Collective shows, which wrapped up on Tuesday in Huntington Beach, Calif., ahead of Miami Swim Week.
The shows, which normally take place about two weeks after Miami and in January, moved up on the calendar for the first time due to venue construction during their regularly scheduled dates, giving buyers a chance to concentrate on brands within a smaller show footprint before heading to the Miami sprawl of four shows.
The boutique-like shows, which featured about 222 swim and 200 activewear exhibitors ranging from Gottex to Reebok and emerging brands from Australia and Hawaii, are a key stop for regional buyers as well as majors such as Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.
“The theories run different from brand to brand. Here it is orders and in Miami you may be working your advertisements and events. Some are rolling out a specific launch in Miami, but they are able to pre-line with their key buyers here so they can narrow down their lines,” said Roy Turner, senior vice president and show director for organizer Emerald Expositions.
Turner said the need

MAGIC Fall 2017 Fashion Trends: Embroidery

Put a stitch on it.
UBM Fashion’s MAGIC and Project trade shows for fall were rich with pieces enhanced by embroidered details to inspire a tension between tough and whimsical. Jean jackets with back panel stitching, army-inspired fatigue shirts and billowing dresses manifested a laissez-faire attitude with intricate stitching techniques that ultimately upgraded many of the pieces.
Chambray and military-green khaki shirts were key items that underwent updates with the detailing. Proving that bohemian angles will endure for another season, these tops were frequently oversize in order to achieve a billowing effect. Other popular items that were shown with embroidered details were leather and denim jackets. The actual patterns and stitching ranged from southwestern patterns to lettering and florals. Especially impressive pieces included a velvet jacket with back panel and sleeve details that channeled Twenties Parisian bohemia and Asilio’s leather jacket that featured biker insignia of hearts and crosses.
In line with Alessandro Michele’s successful spring 2017 collection for Gucci that displayed chinoiserie-inspired stitching in unexpected areas of pieces, brands at Project and MAGIC used sleeves, collars, and back panels for prime embroidery real estate. Celebrities and style tastemakers Rihanna, Olivia Palermo, Bella Hadid and Karlie Kloss have all been captured wearing embroidered

International Wedding Trends for 2017

image via Georgina Harrison Photography

According to Kylie Carson’s third annual International Wedding Trend Report and the Report’s more than 50 expert contributors, 2017 will be influenced in large part by world events and a desire to deliver the best guest experiences that a budget will buy. Personalization, prioritization, and a respect for quality over quantity are all reflected in the hottest weddings trends of 2017.

Enter the concept of “Curated Weddings.”

You’ve most likely heard of curators in terms of museums. They are the experts who choose which artifacts or art become part of an exhibition. They look at everything in a collection and decide what best represents the “vision” for the show.

That is exactly what couples are doing in 2017 – looking at all of the possibilities and choosing, as Sara Burnett of Burnett’s Boards says, “to have their weddings exactly as they want, wearing what they want, sticking to a budget, and still having a beautiful, ‘curated’ wedding day.”

image via Rocksalt Photography

Fine Art Weddings

This concept of curating goes deliciously hand-in-hand with one of the most popular wedding themes for 2017: Fine Art Weddings. Louise Beukes of B. Loved calls them “the new vintage,” explaining that the trend “is all about keeping things simple and elegant by having less, but curating the most beautiful, artisanal items at every step.”

Demonstrating this focus on choice and prioritization, Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York sees brides moving “away from favors and gifts and spending more of their time and budget on fabulous menus and items that create a wow effect for their guests to experience at their wedding.” She is finding that for 2017, “it’s all about the details and creating personalized memorable moments”.

Denise Fouracre of The Wedding Zone predicts couples will host smaller weddings in 2017. They “are spending more money on small events (less than 30 guests) with high end details such as catering, beverages, décor and key suppliers such as cars and photography,” and thus asserting their desire for quality over quantity.

Applying Priorities to Wedding Design

According to Eddie Zaratsian of Eddie Zaratsian Lifestyle & Design, elaborate design elements like flower walls will continue to be in-demand in 2017. While the cost of the labor and materials involved can make these on-trend features seem inaccessible, he encourages his couples to consider where a single section would make the most impact, such as “giving focus to the head table or sweet table.”

Jes Gordon of jesGORDON / properFUN, says that many “clients are choosing to put their budgets more into ‘hard goods’ (than flowers)…like specialty dining tables, chairs, lighting, couture china or serving pieces, and custom napkins often complemented by masses of candlelight.”

image via Tim Dunk Photography

Other important 2017 trends highlighted in the Report include customizing open, urban spaces like warehouses and factories to use as unique venues; featuring dishes from couple’s ethnic traditions on menus; the use of greenery instead of blooms in décor; and a rise in demand for high tech options like digital mapping and drone photography.

Special Tip Update!

The 17 Hottest Wedding Trends for 2017

By Debra Witt for Bridal Guide

The new year brings new ideas for all things wedding, from invitations to flowers, cocktails to cake…and more!

1. Vintage glamour (with a twist). Picture an industrial warehouse decked out with ornate, over-the-top centerpieces and set aglow with strands of twinkling lights and candles. You get the picture: a whimsical mash-up of old and new.

Related: 50 Ideas for a Vintage-Inspired Wedding

2. Encore metallics. Brides continue to embrace copper, rose gold, and pewter because they’re so versatile, says Sara Fried, of Fete Nashville. Not only do they work with other colors for a look that’s at once relaxed and fun, they are ideal tones for a black-tie evening. Pro tip: “Use shine strategically,” says Sarah Chancey, founder of Chancey Charm Weddings, in Atlanta and 11 other cities. “Metallic linens on every table is too much: better to save the shine for the head and display tables.”

3. Neutral territory. From charcoal to blue-greys, or grey-browns, “This color palette is perfect for the bride who wants to achieve a classic, sophisticated feel that won’t seem dated or look too trendy in years to come,” says Michelle Cousins, the planning guru behind Michelle Leo Events in Utah.

Related: 200+ Color Combinations for Your Wedding

4. Surprise settings. Today’s couples want a wedding that will blow their guests away, and one of the key elements to an unforgettable event is the choice of venue. “Any place with a large plot of land or a distinct building — or both — will allow couples to really personalize their wedding and help them tell their unique story,” says Amy Cagginello, founder of Amy Champagne Events in Connecticut.

5. Swoon-worthy blooms. Peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, dahlias and other “soft-petal” blooms are the top-requested flowers from coast to coast — and for good reason. “They epitomize romance,” says Zoe Gallina, creative director of Botanica international Floral Design in Florida. Peonies, in particular are in high demand, with one planner noting that some brides will time their weddings to take place when peonies are in peak season. Loose rose petals, used as a “garland” or runner atop tables or scattered among floating candles, are another trend that’s coming on strong.

6. Sophisticated whimsy. At the other end of the trend spectrum, gallina says flowering plants like king- and pink-ice protea, along with assorted bold tropical blooms and small potted plants, lend a dose of stateliness for brides who want arrangements that feel natural and organic — yet elegant.

7. Paper form follows fashion. “Wedding invitation styles often mimic what’s happening in fashion and home decor,” says Jill Ryder of Shindig Bespoke, a custom design studio based in new York City and Philadelphia. For 2017 that means mixing two patterns, like stripes and florals, on the backs of cards or on envelope liners, as well as textured paper.

8. Handcrafted. “Hand calligraphy is such a strong trend that it’s not uncommon for brides and grooms to learn how to do it themselves,” says Chancey. Fortunately for those with a less steady hand, sites like minted and Wedding Paper Divas feature a wide range of invitation suites that look hand-calligraphed.

9. Local specialties. With more couples infusing pride of location in their hometown celebrations, local flavors are taking the spotlight. For example, in Utah, buffalo is often featured as both a main course and as an appetizer, says Cousins. In Vermont, maple flavoring can make several appearances in the menu. Gulf shrimp is on display in various parts of the South, and so on. (The trend carries over to drinks.) “It’s an extension of the farm-to-table trend that popped up a few years ago,” says Chancey, “but even more fun for the guests.”

10. Paired up. Wine-and-cheese pairings have become a familiar site at cocktail receptions, but the idea of matching different foods with different drinks is being carried over to other types of beverages and appetizers, says Hall. “It elevates the guest experience by keeping folks active and engaged,” she says. Some duets to consider: wine and pasta, cake and craft beer, margaritas and guacamole, or for a wedding brunch, try mimosas and pastries.

11. What’s old is new again. In 2017, bartenders and mixologists are moving away from the very sweet and/or colorful pours in favor of old-time classics, including the moscow mule, a Pimm’s Cup, and the sidecar.

12. Sugar high. Tall cakes that look as if they leapt off the pages of your mother’s wedding album are suddenly in vogue. “After the last few years of pies, cake pops, doughnuts, and cupcakes, there’s been a strong shift back to tiered wedding cakes,” says Bosse. “There’s something nostalgic to people about wedding cake.” As for the height aspect of the trend, she says tall cakes lend visual interest to a dessert table and allow for some very creative artistry — anything from hand painting to jeweled accents.

Related: 101 Amazing Wedding Cakes

13. Sweet satisfaction. S’mores stations and candy bars have been around for a few years, but one new dessert trend is to forgo a formal dessert course and instead serve guests passed desserts and/or set up several grazing dessert stations so guests can mingle and sample, “just like cocktail hour,” says Cagginello. “It keeps the energy going.”

14. Snap and chat. Sara Fried says her clients are loving the newest takes on the traditional photo booth. “There’s the slo-mo booth, the animated GIF booth, the flip-book booth and others,” she says. “All are amazing ways to keep guests fully entertained.” Most booths will text the content directly to smartphones, so your friends can share immediately on social media — and you get copies of everything at the end of the night.

15. Cut and share. Instagram video edits are an increasingly popular package option from videographers, says Lisa Ashley, owner and curator of the Wedding Artists Collective, a specialty group of wedding photographers and videographers. These 60- to 90-second films “have the look and feel of a cinematic trailer and are wonderful representations of the day,” she says.

16. Reaching new heights. Couples can’t get enough of the unique perspectives offered by drone technology for both videos and aerial stills, and pros are following suit, offering packages that include drone footage as an add-on option. Poised for take-off: professional-quality, user-friendly drones for non-pros (and perhaps a wedding guest), such as EHang Ghostdrone 2.0, which is controlled by your smartphone via the EHang Play mobile app.

17. Setting a mood. Lounge areas have been an important decor element at wedding cocktail hours for years, but as after-parties come into fashion wedding pros find themselves setting up more lounge-style seating vignettes closer to the dance floor. “We’ll also change the lighting so the room or tent has more of a club feel,” says Cousins.

Your Fall Fashion Horoscope: The Trends You Should Try Based on Your Sign

We’re thisclose to autumn, making now the perfect time to figure out which of fall 2015’s trends you want to incorporate in your wardrobe. Because all that fashion can be a bit overwhelming (in the best possible way, of course), we decided to do the only logical thing: consult the stars. Loft teamed up with Stefanie Iris Weiss and Sherene Schostak, a.k.a. the Saturn Sisters, for a series of fall horoscopes and gave us the chance to chat with them about the best fall trend for different astrological signs.

Sign: Aries
Best fall trend: Statement earrings

“As a rambunctious Ram, you tumble into new situations headfirst, sometimes without thinking, and a pair of statement earrings announce your arrival in advance. You’re brave, impetuous sign actually rules the head, so accentuating yours with can’t-turn-away jewelry is definitely the right call.” Kendra Scott earrings, $ 55, kendrascott.com

Sign: Taurus
Best fall trend: Turtlenecks

“You were born to make everything around you super cozy, and a formfitting turtleneck does the trick in an instant. This choice keeps you comfortable all season long.” Cos wool sweater, $ 69, cosstores.com

Sign: Gemini
Best fall trend: Neon

“Not many signs can rock neon, but as a fashion-forward, always-on-trend Gem, it’s an easy choice. You’re a born communicator, and flash of bright, bold color is just another way of announcing the presence of your genius before you’ve even opened your mouth.” J.Crew cashmere sweater, $ 198, jcrew.com

Sign: Cancer
Best fall trend: Winter florals

“You were born to soothe and nurture everyone around you, but you often forget that a little bit of self-care goes a long way. Swathed in delicious, alluring winter florals, you’ll be transported back to the lush and abundant month of your birth, even if, baby, it’s still cold outside.” Loft dress, $ 90, loft.com

Sign: Leo
Best fall trend: Over-the-knee boots

“As the zodiac’s most beloved drama queen, you make sartorial statements that say, ‘Turn on the floodlights: I have arrived!’ Adding a pair of over-the-knee boots to your fall wardrobe does just that; there’s no way you won’t be noticed when you confidently stride into the room.” Ivanka Trump boots, $ 179, lordandtaylor.com

Sign: Virgo
Best fall trend: White or cream monochrome

“You’re having a really good year, Virgo, thanks to lucky Jupiter’s presence in your sign. Take that auspiciousness to the next level by rocking your signature look: all white. White is your color, and no one wears pure, unadulterated perfection quite like you.” Apiece Apart shirt, $ 310, apieceapart.com

Sign: Libra
Best fall trend: Skinny scarf

“You just can’t help it: elegance, glamour, and beauty are practically oozing out of your perfectly sized pores. A thin, skinny scarf, artfully tied around your lovely neck, shows the world that you might just be another incarnation of Jackie O.” Nasty Gal scarf, $ 18, nastygal.com

Sign: Scorpio
Best fall trend: All black

“You were born to brood in the chicest way possible, and wearing all black is a simple, direct way to embody your feminine toughness. In the darkest head-to-toe hues, you’re telling everyone that you’re a Scorpio, through and through. Only the powerful need apply.” Misha Nonoo jacket, $ 595, mishanonoo.com

Sign: Sagittarius
Best fall trend: Flares

“You’re the zodiac’s gypsy spirit, so looks inspired by the sixties are just your jam, Sadge. This easy-breezy bohemian look says, ‘I’m about to jet off on yet another adventure.’ You may not even know where you’re going until you get there, but in leg-flattering flares, the journey is just as important as the destination.” Siwy jeans, $ 238, siwydenim.com

Sign: Capricorn
Best fall trend: Utility jacket

“You’re endlessly practical and continually amaze your colleagues and friends with your ability to get things done with little fuss. Are you actually a super hero, Capricorn? This fall you’ll totally rule the world in an on-trend utility coat. So many pockets in which to stash the tools of your world-dominating trade.” Loft anorak, $ 90, loft.com

Sign: Aquarius
Best fall trend: ’70s

“No era in history better befits your quirky, eccentric fashion sense. This fall, you can dress like you think: like a crazy, beautiful genius torn between going to Studio 54 or a feminist consciousness-raising meeting. The seventies may have been four decades ago, but it was way ahead of its time—and so are you.” H&M dress, $ 15, hm.com

Sign: Pisces
Best fall trend: Velvet shoes

“Your dreamy, compassionate sign rules the feet, so it’s always important to treat yours to the very best. This fall, add a pair of elegant velvet shoes to your ethereal repertoire. They will remind you to stand your stylish ground even as you rescue all the people and animals around you, as you’re always wont to do.” Jimmy Choo flats, $ 550, jimmychoo.com

Hot Off the Runway: Women’s Fashion Trends for Fall

If you want to be on the cutting edge of fashion for fall, don’t look to shop windows, look to the future! As I often tell my clients, if you see it in stores, it’s already out, which is why I keep an eye on global trend forecasts. This week at MAGIC, the semiannual fashion trade show in Las Vegas, I soaked up the latest in men’s and women’s lifestyle and apparel trends, color trends, and much, much more.

In a seminar led by Melissa Moylan, Creative Director of Womenswear at FashionSnoops (a trend forecasting agency), I got the scoop on global trends for gals next year (fall/winter ’16-17). So if you’re a buyer, a designer, or a forward-thinking fashionista, read on! FashionSnoops identified four major up-and-coming trend stories for fall: Method + Madness, Weekender, Raven, and Varsity Daze. And while each of these distinct trends is uniquely inspired, they do share some common elements–colors, fabrics, silhouettes, and details–you can look out for regardless of your affinity for any particular trend.

Hues predicted to be popular for winter come from an earthy and warm, yet bold, color palette. Neutrals such as Ivory, Biscuit, Flax, Camel, Toffee, and Dust Grey form a supple base for the richer, more vibrant colors in the Fall ’16 color story.

Vintage hues and jewel tones also play an important role across global trend forecasts with colors like Forest, Navy, Plum, Crimson, Scarlet Fever (a bright, orange-based red) and Roast (a chocolatey espresso brown) laying a foundation of deep undertones.

Mid-tones and accent colors include Olive, Pea, Marigold, Tangerine, Cyan, Teal, and Indigo, along with my personal favorites (for their freshness): Baby Blue, Rose Taupe, Bronze, and Lavender Grey.

The key silhouettes to look out for in ladies’ fall fashion are A-line skirts and dresses (in both mid-lengths and floor dusters), culottes, and wide-leg pants. Also predicted to turn heads are turtlenecks and mock turtlenecks, as well as oversized sweaters, blanket coats, and floor-length overcoats.

According to the forecast, textiles such as boiled and compressed wools, twills, tweeds, and chunky knits will keep you both stylish and warm when the weather start to cool. On the softer side, sheer satin, chiffon, cozy cashmere, and plush, teddy-bear-like fabrics (think: wearable Ted) will be white-hot for winter.

Already dangling in your favorite boutiques, suede fringe will continue to play a prominent role in apparel and accessories. (Ladies, it’s time to let your inner cowgirl lose!) Lace and laser cut-outs are two details also forecasted to remain strong. Keep an eye out for vintage-y patches and appliqués; think old-school letterman jackets and sweaters, along with team pennants and athletic patches. In a nod to handicraft, big buttons, quilting, and patchwork will also be popular, while updated ditsies, graphics, and photography will spice up patterns and prints. As for footwear, the wedge bootie is predicted to give your seasonal style a kick!

So if you want your winter wardrobe to weather more than just one season–while still being on the forefront of fashion–start stocking your closet now with vintage-inspired colors and details; cozy, oversized knits; and cowgirl-meets-Little-House-on-the-Prairie fabrics and accessories.

Take a Spin in These 6 New Shoe and Boot Trends this Fall

Everyone enjoys a social media moment that goes viral, but one such viral moment last week hit home for the team here at Conde Nast, Glamour’s headquarters. And Louboutins were involved.

Serious Louboutin drama in the Conde Nast lobby…

A photo posted by Leah Melby Clinton (@lmcshops) on

Yep, right here at Glamour HQ, one nameless woman’s Christian Louboutin pump got lodged in the slats of our escalators. While we’re glad to report the shoe’s owner was ok, the stilleto, alas, was not. The picture, taken by our very own Lead Writer, Leah Melby, was picked up by blogs and papers across the city, including The Cut and The New York Post. RIP pretty pumps.

The Louboutin debacle got us thinking…there’s no better place to show off your shoes than on an escalator! So our Senior Accessories Editor, Elissa Velluto, curated a selection of the best fall shoe styles, which were filmed (safely) on those very same escalators.

And perhaps that’s the last pair of stilettos to go down via the well-shod steps of the Conde Nast escalators—because fall 2015 is all about chunky heels, embellished flats, and low-heeled Mary Janes, with nary a skinny stem in sight. Check out the best of the best shoes, booties, and block-heels in our brand-new video! Hey, it just might go viral.

7 Childhood Trends From The 2015 Paris Couture Week Runways

Haute couture is often viewed as spectacle rather than practical wear. But here we are at the end of Paris Couture Fashion Week, thinking of all the things we could wear from designers like Elie Saab and Fendi

If there’s one trend we noticed it’s that some of our childhood outfits made it down the runway. Remember the Champagne-colored Jessica McClintock gowns from junior prom? Ralph & Russo is trying to make them a thing. Oh, and striped tights? Looks like Jean Paul Gaultier is calling for a resurgence.

Check out the childhood trends that sauntered down the runway and be inspired to play some dress-up this weekend.

12 of Your Favorite Summer Camp Trends Are All Grown Up

Nostalgic for the care-free days of summer camp? Though you may have outgrown the canoeing, craft-making, and color wars that made up the childhood experience, allow us to offer you a consolation prize: The trends you loved as a kid—friendship bracelets, tie-dye, ringer tees, and more—are back and all grown up. Take styling tips for how to rock these pieces as an adult from any of the 12 stylish ladies featured.

Atlantic Pacific

Elevate tie-dye, the ultimate summer camp DIY, with single-hue prints in tailored silhouettes—think a midi skirt or shirtdress.

Where Did U Get That

Shredded denim shorts don’t have to be tossed now that you’ve entered adulthood. Create your own from an old pair of jeans, then pair them with a crisp, tailored top and elegant shoes to make them feel more styled.

Sincerely Jules

As a child, campfire nights called for crewneck sweatshirts, but the cozy style has reentered the wardrobe mix in a totally different way. Try styling it with a ladylike skirt and heels for a summer Friday at the office.

We Wore What

If you’re looking for casual, cool comfort turn to a pair of Converse sneakers. The rubber-soled classic works with everything from denim to silk chiffon!

Something Navy

Add a little pop to a monochromatic outfit with a ringer tee. The piece lends an athletic flair to feminine items.

Look de Pernille

If you haven’t jumped on the overalls train yet, summer is the perfect chance to do it. As a child you probably wore them with little more than a bathing suit underneath, but as an adult we suggest paring them with a crisp button-down shirt and flats.

Getty Images

Patches, the ultimate badges of honor and skill, now function as little accents that personalize leather bags and jeans alike.

Friendship bracelets, arguably the most quintessential summer camp piece, can be worked as an adult with a few minor tweaks. Go with a tassel bracelet, an updated version of the camp staple, then upgrade it with bracelets and bangles made of silver and gold.

The Northern Light

For camping trips and drives to get ice cream, a backpack was always a must. These days, they’re back in buttery soft leather that looks just as chic as every other bag silhouette on the market.

Peace Love Shea

Though Soffee shorts served their purpose while playing soccer and baseball, as we got older the slouchy and sporty style was was benched. But in soft leather, textured linen, or tweed, the style feels more grown-up and elevated.

Camille Over The Rainbow

We crowned pool slides and Birkenstocks one of eight ugly trends we refuse to give up, and with good reason. Sometimes a gal just wants to be comfortable! Use them as the off-kilter finish to either a full-on normcore-inspired look or to style down a tailored look of trousers and a silk blouse.

Fashion Me Now

One-piece bathing suits once conjured up memories of unflattering athletic garments, but all that has changed. With cutouts, ties, cute trims, and interesting silhouettes, one-piece bathing suits are chicer than ever. See how you can style them for beyond the beach!

GoldGirl’s Jewelry Trends to Watch for!

As I entered the Wynn Hotel’s ballroom for The Couture Jewelry Show, my eyes were immediately drawn to the annual plethora of sparkle and shine. After three years I’ve learned to navigate my way through the booths to find the best of the best, while also zoning in on particular jewelry trends that could be seen throughout the upcoming year. While it is definitely a “sales” show, Couture could also be dubbed as an incubator for the futures best fashion and styles.

Besides all the sparkle, what I love most about Couture is that each collection has an artist standing behind it, literally. As you approach a booth, the artist is typically there and can explain their technique, story, and craft. They all show the same passion on day 3 as they did on day 1, which is impressive considering the successful turnout for this year’s show.

Each year I’ve dedicated a blog post to share the pieces that relate to an overall trend for the upcoming year and I am quite excited about the variety that I saw- as you would expect, the designers continue to get more and more inventive and gold continuously remains the precious metal of choice.

Here are my 2015’s best trends seen at Couture 2015:

Pearls: Slice ’em, dice ’em, hang ’em – they are making a comeback in the most unconventional way yet still maintain a classy and elegant appeal in fine jewelry.

Above are just a few of my favorite pieces being done by Couture newbie Jordan Alexander Jewelry. I fell in love with the leather snakeskin cuff with a sliced pearl surrounded by 18kt and diamonds.

Whimsical and perfect 18kt with pearls Monkey earrings by Marc Alary

A Longer Chain: While layering and stacking has been a constant trend, I have noticed many designers elongating a single necklace to add a longer layer of necklaces.

Alison Cohen, APC PR, demonstrates the ideal look wearing all Kismet by Milka.

A long simple and elegant lariat in 18kt by Jade Trau.

A serious piece! This 18kt necklace with diamonds is by Gumuchian. It can also transform into two pieces and be worn as a bracelet/necklace set!

Playful Pink Gemstones: Last year was the year of the fire Opals and deep blue Lapis Lazuli stones. While those gorgeous stones will never ever dare to go out of style, new light was shed on its cousin stone – the beautiful pink opal and quartz.

The most beautiful collection of pink rings in his well-known “fluid” design by Fernando Jorge in 18kt gold.

The Neverending pink opal with 14kt ring and bangle by Jade Jagger

A rose quartz stone necklace by Noor Fares.

Suzanne Kalan rose quartz earrings surrounded by her signature baguette diamond design.

The 10 Hottest Trends For Spring Weddings

Pretty pastels, sky-high cakes, bold brows and gold foil paper are all trending for spring. Here’s how to make them yours.

By Lauren Kay for TheKnot.com

Bold Brows and Colored Nails

Agape Moments

A well-shaped brow can totally transform your best features, so don’t be tempted to over-tweeze! Instead, blend over-plucked or sparse areas with a brow pencil in a matching shade (try to stick with a hue that’s one to two shades from your natural hair color). Pair with a pale pink lip for a stunning, natural bridal look. And while you’re at it, add just a little intensity to that mani. Bridal nails are getting a subtle wash of color thanks to some pastel-hued polishes in shades of soft peach and light lavender. It’s enough color to be noticed while still being refined.

Pastels Aplenty

Swoon by Katie

Spring is all about pastels (think: soft yellow, blush pink and light lavender). Layer with shiny metallics like copper and rose gold for a luxe look, or pair with neutrals like gray and taupe to keep the palette from feeling too “Easter.” And don’t be afraid to mix more than two colors. Try dressing your bridesmaids in various shades or create pairings for individual elements of your wedding, like lavender and mint for the ceremony, champagne and yellow for the cocktail hour, and gray and pale blue for the reception. Also hot, Pantone’s Color of the Year, marsala. Because this wine-like hue has rich undertones, pair it with ice blue to soften the look.

Sassy Skirts

Dress, Dennis Basso, KleinfeldBridal.com

We know how hard it can be to pick just one wedding dress, but thanks to designers like Monique Lhuillier, Dennis Basso and Romona Keveza, you can get two dresses in one. These gorgeous silhouettes with removable skirts stole the show at Bridal Fashion Week and have become a must-have for fashion-forward brides everywhere. Now you can look glamorous for your strut down the aisle and also be ready to boogie come reception time.

Tall Tiers

Ron Ben-Israel Cakes

Wedding cakes are on the rise — in tiers, that is. We’re talking five and six layers, plus the return of columns to give the confections even more height. These sugar masterpieces are as elegant as ever with bold sugar flowers, detailed patterns and pretty piping. A wedding cake is like the exclamation point to your day, so why not go big and tall?

Passed Eats

Larissa Cleveland Photography

From artisan spirits to interactive food stations, spring receptions are all about the eats and specialty sips. If you’re opposed to a sit-down dinner, consider this new twist on food stations: Serve a whole meal in small plates passed by servers. Your caterer can create a menu that moves from light cocktail bites to heavier hors d’oeuvres and finishes with something sweet. Your guests will be free to chat and move about the party (no bad table assignments here!) and still get fed. Consider sourcing locally produced spirits or having a bar stocked with a single liquor (whiskey is pretty popular), bitters and colorful glassware so guests can help themselves.

More from The Knot: Help! How Do I Choose My Maid of Honor?

Floral Prints

Dress, ElizabethFillmoreBridal.com

Add a pop of color with a pretty floral pattern. Pastel, floral-print bridal gowns were big on the spring runways. Want to stick with white? Dress your bridesmaids in a happy print instead. You could even opt for printed floral pocket squares for the guys to tie the whole bridal party look together.

Spring Greens and Blooms

Aaron Delesie

Embrace this blooming season in full force. Green garlands of ivy, lemon leaves or seeded eucalyptus will add a fresh look to long feasting tables or aisles. Or opt for flowering branches, like cherry blossoms or forsythia–they’ll add height to your reception tables and make for easy conversation. Take advantage of spring flowers like sweet peas, lilacs, hyacinths, tulips and peonies (everyone’s favorite wedding flower). Choosing in-season stems gives you the freshest flowers and the most bang for your buck.

Estate Gems

Engagement ring, $ 11,250, TrumpetAndHorn.com

One-of-a-kind engagement rings are trending. Brides and grooms are not only embracing warm tone metals like yellow and rose gold, they’re seeking out unique estate pieces as well. Want a brand-new ring, but love the vintage-heirloom look? Designers like Catbird, Anna Sheffield and Trumpet and Horn are creating vintage-inspired designs that give you the best of both worlds.

Gaga for Gold

Gold foil reigns! The foil trend — gold, rose gold, sliver and copper — is here to stay. From light dustings to full-on gold rushes, this luxe printing technique can add a fancy touch to an otherwise casual invitation, or can really dress up black-tie correspondence. Bold pops of color are also trending (think: your envelope, a vibrant belly band or a colorful patterned invite backing).

If you’re not the veil-wearing type, you’re in luck. This spring is all about the hair accessory. From ethereal tiaras to flowering vines and bridal hats, there’s something for every bridal look. Choose a piece that complements the style of your dress, like a gold-leaf tiara paired with a long-sleeve gown. If you want to modify your look between the ceremony and reception without changing your dress, switch up your hair accessory to something more playful.

4 Ways to Master Summer’s Trickiest Fashion Trends

The countdown to summer 2015 is officially on. At this point you’ve got your essentials and you’ve got most of the latest trends down. But there are a few trends every summer that are always a bit tricky to pull off. Enter Claire Distenfeld, owner of the posh New York City boutique Fivestory. With news of the three-year-old boutique launching e-commerce this week, we decided to peruse the site and see how the fabulously fashionable Distenfeld models some of the most chic, but challenging, looks out there.

Balmain cardigan, Gap T-shirt, Lyn Devon trousers, and Chloe espadrilles.

Printed Pants: “I always say balance, balance, balance,” muses Distenfeld as she models pineapple print trousers with a Gap white T-shirt and crisp white cardigan. “If the pants are fun and loud, keep the top and shoes as simple as possible—white T-shirts are my favorite, white button-downs are great too.” She also advises to avoid wearing colored tops with printed pants. But at the end of the day it’s not just what you style them with. Says Distenfeld: “You have to own them! Strut in them and let them speak to your personality.”

Cushnie et Ochs top, Giamba culottes, Chloe espadrilles, Smoke and Mirrors sunglasses.

Crop Tops: Crop tops have become a perennial summer trend, but if you’re shy about baring your midriff, choose an in-between option. This Cushnie et Ochs shirt has a crop top underneath with a flowing tank overlay, giving you the crop top feel but covering you from the front and back. “As I said before, balance is my mantra,” says the store owner. “Crop tops allow me to get there, whether it’s with wide-leg pants, a long flowy skirt, or a pair of culotte shorts.”

Cushnie et Ochs dress, Alexandre Birman sandals, and a Rauwolf clutch.

Cutouts: “Cutouts are always a great way to take something average and add a little pizzazz to it,” says Distenfeld. “The little glimpses of skin that one does not usually show create such a moment of feminine power.” In order to avoid looking too sexy in cutouts, choose a neutral color, like this khaki green dress. “In its essence, khaki is a workman’s fabric so it creates a nice balance of masculine and feminine.”

Emilia Wickstead romper, Nicholas Kirkwood platforms.

The Dressy Romper: Get ready to trade in your cocktail dress for a fancy romper! When looking for a dressy romper, consider the color and cut. “This romper’s high neck and conservative cut keeps the elegance on top while being playful and fun on the bottom,” Distenfeld says. “I’d definitely wear it to a cocktail party or a non-black-tie event.”

Ditch The Trends, Liberate The Risque, And Create A Wedding Of Your Dreams

Tell me, honestly, how many times have you seen the image of the same floral peony bouquet wrapped in blush tulle on your Facebook feed or bridal magazines or the wedding blogs you follow? Too many, right? After a while it seems as if you are looking at the same wedding over and over again on all the different social media channels. But, really, they are not the same wedding.

So, how about we drop the notion that we need to follow the trends in order to make our wedding look incredibly gorgeous? How about we embrace the ‘un-think’ and work towards creating a little bit of ‘ish’ so that those photos that we look at years down the road remind us of what we were made of, and who we really were.

As a photographer, I always encourage my couples to talk to me about things, places and colors that inspire them, and that they enjoy together. We then work out a details of a session (both engagement and wedding) that allows them to explore those passions and interests. We work together to create a comfortable camaraderie so that there is room for a little adventure and authenticity.

To all the engaged couples out there, please know that your most special day, your wedding, doesn’t have to be color coordinated to the rhythm of popular trends. It should instead represent your silliness, your quirkiness, your crazy awesome love. And, when it comes to photographs, rest assured, you will be proud to show those photos to your grandkids.

So, how about I help you find out a few ways you can achieve that:

1. Erase the trend, and fill in with your passion
When you sit down to plan your wedding, the first thing you need to do is block the word “trendy” or “trends” from your planning dictionary. Instead, list out the places you’ve traveled together to and pick out your favorite from them and what aspects about that place made it your favorite. Maybe you want to include some elements of that place in your wedding. Or if you like to go to museums together, bring in elements from that in your wedding, such as, small terrarium boxes as favors (tons of vendors on etsy), decorate with vines and leaves instead of flowers or buy mini canvas from a craft store and create your own masterpieces for your guests as favors.

[The bride and groom crafted this stunning gold backdrop for their wedding]

2. Be bold
Honestly, what makes a wedding memorable are the photos. So, look for a photographer who can capture your beautiful relationship as is. Have your engagement session in a trapeze studio if you like flying, and during the wedding day, allow the photographer to really get in and dirty with all the emotions exploding around. Don’t go for the safe shots, go for those photos that scream “you” and allocate enough time for the photographer to create those sick bride and groom portraits for your during sunset. You will be thanking me later.

3. Keep it close, keep it personal
Sometimes the best settings are when you have the time and energy to celebrate your wedding with each and every soul who made the effort to attend it. So, don’t worry about numbers. If you have only 30 people to invite, then rock on! For instance, charter a boat and celebrate in style with those who really matter. Everyone else can enjoy via those super awesome photos!

4. Unique venues, with unique voices
Yes, a venue sets the mood and expectations for the day. So, don’t let that go dry in a ballroom. From yachts to zoos to state parks to public libraries to old mining mills…the possibilities are endless. Let the venue speak uniquely of your unique love story.

5. Dress up, dress right or dress left
What’s in a wedding dress? A lot, that I agree with. But, again, who says that a gold sequined gown with your grandmother’s lace is any less gorgeous than that $ 20,000 couture one that every bride has already worn. And, who says that bridesmaid wearing pant suits is a total shocker? That’s right…no one. So, don’t let the fashion gods dampen your fashionably forward spirit. If it feels right, guess what, it probably is right.

Listen, I am no expert at wedding planning, but after having been in the industry for a while I can safely say that following your heart and liberating its power in the planning process can do wonders. From the details to the glorious photos – you will be truly see your love shine. And, who wants to see the same peony bouquet wrapped in blush tulle for the millionth time?

Anyone? Anyone?

3 Brand-New Wedding Dress Trends, Hot Off the Bridal Market Runways

There isn’t always a sense a newness when you see wedding dresses heading down the runway. Even when the dresses feel pretty and stylish, there are only so many ways to do white, lace, and…

Men’s Hairstyle Trends on the Runway: Long Vs. Slick

A longtime favorite of stylists, slick hair was the go-to look at the fall men’s runway collections. An extreme slicked-back style with high shine, hair was given slightly more volume for an overly dramatic look. Although a bit predictable, this look has the potential to gain popularity once again.
Long hair is no longer a woman’s prerogative. Taking its cue from the rock music scene, this season’s looks included mostly medium and long textured hairstyles with a messy finish. This hairstyle is not expected to be a temporary trend, so anyone opting to grow out their hair will surely find plenty of inspirational images.

This Hilarious Video Boils Down The Makeup Trends We Need To Leave Behind In 2014

As 2014 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the pretty moments… and the not so pretty moments of the year past.

Thankfully, YouTube vlogger and makeup artist, Jackie Aina aka Makeup Game On Point, released a video that is one of the funniest, most honest end-of-year roundups we’ve seen to date. Although she usually executes sleek tutorials on eyeshadow and more, this beauty guru gets playful (and mad real) with the makeup styles that made 2014 so… special. Yes, we’re talking about contouring (among other fads).

Check out Aina’s hilarious video above and see which beauty trends need to stay in 2014, and 2014 only. And when in doubt, remember Aina’s wise words: “Your lashes should not be able to slice a pizza in half.”

8 So-Called Wedding ‘Trends’ We’re Calling B.S. On

Bridal magazines and blogs are quick to grab onto the latest “trend.” Sometimes, those judgments seem reasonable — we can totally see short wedding dresses taking off. But when media outlets declare donkey weddings or marijuana weddings the hot new wedding fad, we can’t help but roll our eyes. Here are eight wedding “trends” we’re calling B.S. on:

1. Donkey weddings

Some people may try to convince you that having a donkey at your wedding is a thing. Sure enough, an Arizona company called Haul N Ass Productions has trained donkeys — err, “beer burros” — to be wedding party entertainment. The donkeys walk around wearing saddle bags filled with beer for your guests and are billed as a great “ice breaker.” Or you could just like, hire a bartender instead. That works too.

2. Robot weddings

In the U.S. and Japan, couples have been using robots like the four-foot-tall i-Fairy to officiate their wedding ceremonies. If you want to participate in this trend anomaly, you can call up Oscar the Wedding Robot who is based in Minneapolis and can serve as “officiant, ring bearer, flower girl, videographer, usher, reader, dancer, child charmer, or speech giver.”

3. “Hand lifts” for better engagement ring selfies (aka “relfies”).

Apparently, some women have undergone plastic surgery on their hands for a better selfie of their engagement ring. The surgery involves having fillers implanted to give hands a smoother appearance. Media outlets jumped on the story, and earlier this year, NYC dermatologist Dr. Ariel Ostad told SELF that he’s seen a 40 percent increase in requests. Cue eye roll.

4. Shadow weddings

If your wedding is designed to be the perfect moment to declare your love for your spouse while looking beautiful, the “shadow wedding” is meant to be the exact opposite. Conceived by two California therapists, the shadow wedding takes place a week before a couple’s actual wedding ceremony in order to “celebrate” the couple’s unpleasant, unromantic baggage. The couple dresses in shlumpy clothes and makes depressing vow statements like, “I vow to be controlling and always think that I know what is best for you.” While it’s meant to offer a more honest counter to the idealized fairy tale wedding, it mostly sounds uncomfortable for everybody involved — and so not a trend.

5. Social media wedding concierge

Earlier this year, the W Hotel announced a new “social media wedding concierge” service to help you craft the perfect hashtag for your special day. For $ 3,000, the concierge will live-tweet your wedding, splash Instagram with photos from the event and get all your guests to use your wedding hashtag.
We’re just kind of like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6. Bum-flashing bridesmaids

A good bridesmaid will do anything for her friend’s special day, and apparently that sometimes includes dropping trou in the bridal party photos. In June, College Humor noted that a number of photos of bridesmaids showing their bums had been circling the Internet. While media outlets were quick to dub the salacious bridesmaid photo a new “trend,” it turns out many of the photos were from porn sites and were pretty old. So, thankfully, we dub this not a thing.

7. The “solo wedding”

This “trend” comes from Japan, where the solo wedding is apparently the latest way to celebrate one’s independence. Designed for the “modern woman,” it’s billed as a chance to celebrate self-love by getting married to yourself. For the equivalent of $ 2,750, the Japanese company “Solo Wedding” will plan a two-day excursion where the “bride” can pick out a dress and flowers and pose for photos. We’re all about celebrating singledom, but there’s got to be a more fulfilling way to spend a few thousand dollars?

8. The marijuana wedding

As legalized recreational marijuana takes off, many have been quick to announce the rise of the “marijuana wedding.” Apparently, these events can include everything from edible pot caramels to marijuana leaf bouquets to vaporizers given as party favors. While this brand of wedding could conceivably catch on in Boulder, Colorado, we don’t see pot replacing a nice old-fashioned glass of champagne in most of the country anytime soon.

The 2014 Kitchen Of The Year Perfectly Nails This Year’s Trends

Trends can be so much more than unachievable inspiration, they can become reality. And if there were ever a question as to whether this were true, we present to you one of the coolest kitchens we’ve ever seen.

It’s filled with gorgeous onyx-colored cabinetry, perfectly-placed open shelving and the stunning metallic mash-ups, all of which were touted to be huge this year. So with that in mind, it’s no wonder it was named House Beautiful’s “2014 Kitchen Of The Year.” Inspired by the “amazing light the space afforded,” the dramatic room was designed by Steven Miller for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase, and will be featured in the magazine’s October issue, which hits newsstands on September 23. It’s the seventh year House Beautiful has worked with a designer to create a space they describe as the “new American living room.” And considering we couldn’t see ourselves spending as much time in any other spot in the historic 1907 home where this year’s kitchen was installed, we agree with the decision.

But don’t let jealousy overcome you just yet. You can get the same jaw-dropping appeal in your own home. Here are a few close-ups to show you how.
