Troll This Politician And He Just Might Call Your Grandma — Literally

When Pennsylvania House Rep. Brian Sims (D-PA) woke up Wednesday morning, he followed his usual morning routine: checking the news, and then deleting the hate speech left on his Facebook by trolls overnight.

An openly gay politician, Sims is used to having to go through these motions. However, this morning one comment stuck out to him: it read “n****r faggot.”

When Sims checked the poster’s Facebook page, he didn’t find much info or a clear-cut motive for the troll’s actions.

“What caught me about it was there wasn’t a reference to something I said or something I’d done or some policy,” Sims told HuffPost. “And when I looked at his page there was very little there ― but he’d posted a telephone number a number of times.”

So Sims decided to call the number at 6:15 a.m. ― and the person on the receiving end turned out to be none other than the troll’s grandmother.

”I explained to her exactly who I as and what he had done,” Sims told HuffPost. “Like any grandma she was very embarrassed at having this kind of convo and very ashamed at the actions of her grandson. The conversation ended with me telling her that I wanted to hear from him.”

Sims did in fact ending up talking to the poster after the conversation with his grandmother. He said that he rather not discuss the specifics of their conversation but noted that it “didn’t resolve anything.”

“It is the ultimate calling card of a coward to ― under the guise of night and behind a keyboard ― use the kind of language that in person would cause most decent people to respond in anger and frustration,” Sims continued. “The reason people do things like this is they don’t have the courage, the education or gumption to do this kind of thing in person.”

Let this be a lesson to trolls everywhere: be careful what you’re posting ― it might just result in an early morning call to your grandmother!

Deadpool And Wolverine Troll Each Other In The Most Bromantic Way

Call it Method acting.

Marvel’s foul-mouthed and quick-witted “Deadpool,” played by Ryan Reynolds, sure loves to joke around. And one of the character’s favorite targets is a fellow X-Man, Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman.

Reynolds’ Deadpool began poking fun at Jackman’s Wolverine even before the first “Deadpool” movie came out, ripping on Wolverine in the teaser.

In the actual film, Deadpool shares plenty of Wolverine-related jokes, as well. Like the one where he attaches a cutout of Hugh Jackman’s face to his own after his love interest removes his mask in an attempt to see underneath.

And if we take a quick peek at the actor’s Twitter account, it seems as if life is imitating art: Reynolds really seems to relish in a good Jackman burn.

For instance, while Hackman was in Beijing promoting his latest ― and last ― Wolverine movie, “Logan,” he tweeted this perfectly nice photo of himself:

And Reynolds decided to Deadpool all over it:

But Jackman had a good sense of humor about Reynolds’ tweet:

Jackman’s attitude may stem from the fact that Reynolds has been trolling him for quite a while.

For example, in February, Jackman tweeted this:

And Reynolds retorted with this:

Jackman, however, has done his fair share of Deadpool ridicule as well.

For instance, when Reynolds was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December, the actor made a video urging fans to urinate on Reynold’s section of the sidewalk. It cleverly recalled the Jackman cutout Deadpool wore in the film:

Jackman also posted this frosty gem on Reynold’s birthday:

And he also ― very politely ― blasted someone’s Wolverine fan art for including Deadpool in the illustration:

Of course, Reynolds had a very appropriate response:

It seems all of this online jabbing is just good fun. The two actors are sincerely supportive of one another’s projects; Reynolds has retweeted a teaser, trailer and a positive review for “Logan.”

With each he included a sincere compliment:

And Jackman has been really appreciative:

These two dudes seem to genuinely like each other.

Aw, you guys!

Kal Penn Responds To Racist Troll By Raising Thousands For Refugees

Kal Penn is turning racist vitriol into meaningful action to help other people.

On Saturday, the Indian-American actor posted a screenshot on Instagram showing a text-message conversation with a friend. The friend was talking about an Iraqi refugee turned away from the United States in the wake of President Donald Trump’s executive order halting the U.S. refugee program and suspending immigration from several countries.

Someone then messaged Penn saying that he doesn’t “belong in this country” and is a “fucking joke.”

So Penn responded in about the best way possible: by raising money to help refugees.

“To the dude who said I don’t belong in America, I started a fundraising page for Syrian Refugees in your name,” Penn wrote in a follow-up Instagram post.

The CrowdRise fund, which benefits the International Rescue Committee, doesn’t appear to actually show the person’s name, at least publicly. But by mid-afternoon Saturday, it had raised over $ 15,000 for the cause, and the amount was rapidly growing.

Some people have donated under the names “Melania Trump,” “Donald Trump” and “Chief Strategist Steve Bannon,” but we’re going to go out on a limb and assume those are pseudonyms.

Way to go, Kal!

How The Internet Gave Birth To ‘Troll Politics’ And President-Elect Trump

The internet is often hailed as a place where marginalized communities can have a platform and circumvent traditional media gatekeepers to make their voices heard. But according to author Caitlin Moran, the web also has a more insidious side, and with President-elect Donald Trump’s political rise, it may have just reared its ugly head.

Moran, the author of the new book Moranifesto, stopped by The Huffington Post Tuesday to discuss how the internet may have helped fuel the loud, populist politics that drove Britain’s exit from the European Union and the election of Trump.

One of the biggest problems with the current state of the internet, Moran noted, is that its gatekeepers don’t reflect the diversity of its users. Instead, the dominance of young men on the web resembles “California during the Gold Rush.”

“If you look at the structure of the way that it is, like 92 percent of coders are male. So this is a male environment,” she told HuffPost’s Alex Berg. “It’s mainly young. There aren’t any tribal elders on there who can go, ‘We’ve seen this before. Calm down.’ It’s a very hostile place for women and people from the LGBT community and people of color.”

This problematic issue is compounded by the fact that internet harassment is rarely treated as “real” harassment. Internet abuse is often dismissed, despite the fact that the web impacts almost every aspect of our lives and plays a very real role in everything from entertainment to politics today.

“Its a place that dictates the way that we talk and deal with our problems and it has absolutely, logically, clearly resulted in this world where we’re now gaming politics,” Moran said. “It’s just about shouting. This is the era of the troll. This is troll politics. Brexit. Trump.”

Today, the online phenomenon Moran discussed has very real-world implications. Hate crimes spiked after the Brexit vote, a pattern that also emerged in the U.S. after Trump won the presidential election.

“This dream world we’ve got on the internet, we’ve now ported this over into real life,” Moran said.

Jon Stewart: Donald Trump Is An Internet Troll Running For President

Comedian Jon Stewart returned to standup on Tuesday night, and wasted no time going after one of his favorite targets: Donald Trump.

“It’s like an Internet comment troll ran for president,” the former “Daily Show” host said of the GOP presidential frontrunner at the 9th annual Stand Up for Heroes event in New York.

(Warning: strong language ahead)

“When I was doing the program, we liked to make jokes about him because he’s hilarious and easily mockable,” Stewart said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “We would mock him with things such as, ‘He looks like a bewigged boiled ham,’ or something like that. So he would tweet in the middle of the night, ‘Jon Stewart’s real name is Leibowitz. He’s a Jew. Why does he run away from his heritage?’ You know, because that’s what I think most presidents would do. I remember Lincoln used to drunk tweet: ‘Hey, emancipate this, you fuck!'”

Stewart, who has had a long-running feud with Trump, was referring to tweets such as these:

Stewart expressed some disbelief that Trump is a serious contender for the presidency.

Are we really doing this Donald Trump thing? We’re really doing that as a country?” Stewart said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s fucked. I like to put my name in giant letters on everything I own as much as the next guy, but the only other people that do that are like 8-year-olds going to camp.”

Then, he broke out his famous Trump impression.

“Where did I put that building? Oh there it is, Trump. Boom. Where’s my fucking helicopter? Boom, Trump,” Stewart said. “Where’s my wife? Boom, Trump, nice.”

If Trump is aware of Stewart’s jokes, he has yet to fire back on Twitter.

Stewart had words for people who say they like Trump because of his unfiltered views.

“People are like, ‘I like Trump; he says what he thinks,'” Stewart said, per The Hollywood Reporter. ”What he thinks is stupid. That’s like if your friend is like, ‘I would like to fuck your mom.’ Why would you say that? … I don’t give a shit if you’re politically correct, just be correct, correct.”

While it seems Trump got hit with the sharpest of comedic barbs, Stewart also told jokes about Ben Carson, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and even himself before wrapping it up with some exasperation over politics.

“I’m done with this shit,” he said, according to EW. “Done, done, done.”
