Second Edition of Green Carpet Fashion Award by Chopard to be Unveiled in Venice

MILAN – The second edition of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia, will be once again held at the La Scala theater — this year on Sept. 23 — and organizers Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Eco-Age and Chopard will unveil this year’s trophy on Saturday in Venice during the city’s Film Festival.
In accordance with Chopard’s commitment to produce all its watches and jewelry in ethical gold starting in July, the statuette is crafted from Fairmined-certified ethical gold.
“Once again we are delighted to be able to have the opportunity to work with The Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia for this year’s ceremony,” said Caroline Scheufele, copresident and artistic director of Chopard, as the awards “are closely aligned” with the company’s values of sustainability and the “celebration of the artisans involved in all levels of our supply chains.”
The trophy represents a woman, whose long braid is produced in Fairmined-certified ethical gold. “Draped in a long robe made of aluminum to lend a lighter touch, the silhouette of this noble 21st-century heroine evokes the models sketched by fashion designers,” stated the company. “She appears surrounded by a halo, borne by a thermoformed Plexiglas cape featuring engravings evoking a golden apple tree.”

THEY DO: Chiara Ferragni: Italian, blonde, influencer, entrepreneur, mother and, now, wife.
The personality behind The Blonde Salad digital platform and the Chiara Ferragni Collection footwear and accessories label married Italian singer Federico Lucia, better known as Fedez, in a civil ceremony in Noto, Sicily, on Saturday.
As reported, Ferragni’s wedding dress was specially designed by Dior’s artistic director of women’s collections Maria Grazia Chiuri, who also attended the ceremony.
The white Dior haute couture style featured a long-sleeved crochet lace top juxtaposed with a tulle skirt embellished with a thin ribbon belt. A long white veil and white, Dior sling-back pointy shoes completed the ensemble. Ferragni’s hair was styled in a simple updo while her makeup was kept natural to emphasize her blue eyes.

The groom opted for a Versace outfit, comprising a black suit and white shirt, with no tie but only golden Medusa cufflinks and a gold watch as accessories.
The six bridesmaids, who included Ferragni’s sisters Valentina and Francesca, donned sustainable custom-made Alberta Ferretti gowns. Offered in two variations, one featuring a deep V neckline and another with a sweetheart neckline, the pink silk georgette pleated style with lace inlays was developed in collaboration with Livia Firth’s brand consultancy Eco-Age, according to

Eleanor Balfour Line Unveiled on Moda Operandi’s The Platform

Eleanor Balfour has officially launched her signature collection exclusively on The Platform at Moda Operandi.
The designer is one of a few being supported via the new platform. She first sold to the e-commerce site via a trunk show last year. After attending Central Saint Martins, Balfour worked for Figue and Oscar de la Renta before starting her own company last year. Her namesake label is also sold via her own site. In future seasons, she plans to sell her designs, which retail from $ 400 to $ 2,000 to specialty stores.
During a phone interview from Venice Friday where she planned to check out the Biennale and was in search of a little inspiration for her next collection, Balfour spoke of her international upbringing and her career. Raised in England, she often visited her mother’s family in Kärnten, Austria, where she and her cousins would take the one-hour train ride to Venice. “I haven’t been here in years so I’m sort of seeing it with a new view of everything,” Balfour said.
New York has been her base city for the past seven years, but she is now dividing her time between New York and London. “It will be a bit more trans-Atlantic. I

Gianfranco Ferré Exhibition To Be Unveiled in Italy

The Fondazione Gianfranco Ferré will host an exhibition to celebrate the late designer’s vision. Running from April 21 to June 18, the “Gianfranco Ferré. Moda, un racconto nei disegni,” — or “Gianfranco Ferré. Fashion, a tale in drawings” — exhibit will showcase more than 100 sketches in the 15th-century Santa Maria della Pietà cultural center in the city of Cremona, located a 90-minute drive from Milan and home to Ferré’s mother.
A former hospital for lepers, the venue’s 530-foot-long hall and essential architecture will serve as a stage for modular panels showcasing the rectangular drawings, which will be divided into groups according to thematic or chromatic affinities rather than following a chronological order. A small section of large-scale sketches will stand out at the core of the exhibit, while some of the designer’s fashion creations will also be included.
“There will be only a limited array of clothes because the whole focus of the exhibition is the drawings,” said Fondazione Gianfranco Ferré’s director Rita Airaghi, underscoring how such garments will be added to show the complete transposition of the designer’s vision in three-dimensional shapes, volumes and textures.
In addition to retracing the history of Ferré’s fashion collections, the exhibit aims to highlight the creativity and evolution

Unveiled: Story of a Vampire Rapist and Serial Killer Named John

Have you watched horror stories where vampires are the main characters? If you think that these supernatural beings are just part of your imagination, try to consider the possibility that they really exist. The night is filled with fear as a vampire could attack randomly. The extreme thirst for blood may turn anyone as the victim or prey. Having an encounter with a serial killer would be the worst experience ever. When we say “serial killer”, this person murdered more than two people, not just by shooting a gun or stabbing them with a knife. It is horrible to know that sexual contact is involved in most serial killings. Among the stories you have read, you may not have found yet this peak level of intensity. The version where John Brennan is the vampire rapist is where you will discover his brutal acts and dark intentions. This man had criminal backgrounds like rape and kidnapping. Specifically, Crutchley killed 32 women in his entire venture. Considering the fact that he drained his victim’s blood, he is indeed suitable for the title of “Vampire Rapist”.John was part of a wealthy family, but not of a circle of friends. Instead of interacting with the other young children outside, he preferred to explore his gadgets and play games. With his interest on technology-assisted equipment, his career was related to electronics. John Crutchley was able to earn a decent income from rebuilding stereo systems and doing radio repairs. This man has great potentials, making him competent in the company he was part of. He completed his course in physics within a reputable school in Ohio. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he never stopped learning. In fact, John Crutchley had his post-graduate schooling for the improvement of his skills in electronics. His diligence in studying is too far from his image of being a “Vampire rapist” and criminal. This man was feared due to his notorious acts. However, every individual has his own burden. By simply looking at him, we cannot instantly

New ‘Hellboy’ Dinosaur Unveiled In Scientific Paper With A Romantic Twist

Romance is not extinct.

A paleontologist recently proposed to his girlfriend in the acknowledgments of a scientific paper describing a newly unearthed dinosaur species, but says he hopes the romantic gesture doesn’t overshadow the discovery.

Caleb Brown of the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta, Canada, is the lead author of “A New Horned Dinosaur Reveals Convergent Evolution in Cranial Ornamentation in Ceratopsidae,” published Thursday in the journal Current Biology.

The paper, co-authored by the Tyrrell Museum’s curator of dinosaurs, Donald Henderson, describes Regaliceratops peterhewsi, a close relative of the Triceratops that lived during the late Cretaceous Period. The fossil is believed to be around 70 million years old.

Brown told The Huffington Post that the dinosaur was nicknamed “Hellboy” because the process of extracting the animal’s skull from the ground was so difficult. He noted that the name also works because of the horned creature’s vague resemblance to the ’90s comic book character.

While discoveries of new species of dinosaurs are “fairly common” these days, Brown said, Regaliceratops is particularly interesting because it’s the first example of “evolutionary convergence” in horned dinosaurs. Evolutionary convergence occurs when two groups that are not closely related independently develop similar traits.

Brown explained that the Regaliceratops was a Chasmosaurine, a group of dinosaurs that typically had a modest, simple neck frill. The fossil that was discovered, however, had a larger and more elaborate neck frill much more similar to that usually seen in Centrosaurines, another group of horned dinosaurs that lived two million years prior to Chasmosaurines. A news release describes the frill as including a “halo of large, pentagonal plates radiating outward, as well as a central spike,” giving the dino the appearance of wearing a crown.

That crown-like appearance is what inspired the dinosaur’s scientific name. “Regaliceratops” is derived from the Latin for “royal horned face,” according to Science Watch, while “peterhewsi” is an homage to Peter Hews, the Alberta geologist who first spotted the dinosaur’s fossil sticking out the side of a riverbank in 2005.

As if a new, royal-looking species of dinosaur named “Hellboy” weren’t cool enough, the paper also has a romantic element. In the acknowledgements, Brown wrote a note to his girlfriend, which was reprinted in Retraction Watch:

C.M.B. would specifically like to highlight the ongoing and unwavering support of Lorna O’Brien. Lorna, will you marry me?

“I never expected it to get this much attention,” Brown told HuffPost. He said he just wanted to propose in a “unique and spontaneous” way, and he felt that including the proposal in the paper “immortalized” it.

Obviously, O’Brien said yes.

Unveiled: Voices of Women in Afghanistan

Unveiled: Voices of Women in Afghanistan

"We have been forgotten, and we need the right to speak. If no one hears what we say, nothing will change." In 1997, during the Taliban’s repressive rule, award-winning photographer Harriet Logan went to Afghanistan and encountered a group of extraordinary women whose strong characters and dreams for the future made an indelible impression on her. Despite the peril to her life and theirs, she captured their lives in a series of striking photographs. The women risked their safety by speaking to and being photographed by her because they felt that the outside world needed to know what was happening to them. The images of women from 1997 contrast sharply with those from the 1970s, when they were free to dress as they wished, speak up for their rights, and pursue their educations alongside men. After the Taliban’s defeat at the end of 2001, Logan returned to Afghanistan, where she found many of these women again and met others. These courageous and intelligent women shared with her stories of unimaginable sadness and abiding strength through the long years of war and uncertainty. Zargoona, a widow, reveals that she could not afford to treat her cancer because Taliban law prevented women from earning a living. Nahed, a schoolteacher, has vowed never to marry because even her own brothers beat her, Durkhanai, the daughter of a famous television anchor-woman, tells how she experienced the joys of family life and the pain of lost freedom all at once: "We were like birds in a cage. For me, maybe my cage was good — my home was full of happiness. We love each other here and we are not hungry. But outside it was terrible." Nine-year-old Sanam rejoices that she can carry her doll without beingbeaten for idolatry. Latifa lost her foot when she stepped on a mine and subsequently left her house only four times during Taliban rule. She begs of women across the world: "Please help us Afghan women. We have just come out of a dark period into the sunshine. Learn from us so that what we have suffered will never happen again." Logan’s photographs reveal the world of these women, from portraits of them at home to the war-torn landscapes of Kabul and its marketplaces newly brimming with beauty products. This stunning journey in text and image will open the reader’s eyes to the Afghanistan of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Their Do It Up salon has been swamped ever since hometown-Hollywood-star Courtney Day had her wedding hair done there. Now the sisters know every secret of every bride-to-be that crosses their threshold: does she or doesn’t she, will she or won’t she, how often, and with whom? What happens at Do It Up stays at Do It Up — until Craig Esposito strolls into the salon with the latest wedding party. Cinnamon’s dazed reaction suggests there’s something only she knows about this handsome cousin to the groom — making Ginger wonder if he’s the mystery father of Cinnamon’s young daughter (which should kill her attraction to him, but doesn’t).
