‘Heartless Psychopath’ Husband Allegedly Killed His Pregnant Wife and Daughters: Victim’s Brother

The brother of a slain Colorado mom vented his grief on Facebook against the woman’s husband, who is suspected of killing the woman and the couple’s two young daughters.

“I just want 30 seconds alone with that heartless psychopath,” posted Frankie Rzucek, the brother of Shanann Watts, who was 15 weeks pregnant.

According to the post, Shanann was going to have a son and name him Niko.

“My blood is boiling and the pain and anger and sadness I have in my heart,” Rzucek wrote.

In another post, Rzucek also shared a photo of himself and his two nieces, Celeste, 3, and 4-year-old Bella, to whom he described in a separate post as “absolutely adorable, precious, harmless.”

According to a family friend, Shanann and Chris “were having marital problems and she was getting ready to leave him.”

Shanann, Celeste and Bella were reported missing on Monday. On Wednesday night, the Frederick Police Department, working with the FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation, arrested Chris Watts, who had given multiple media interviews pleading for their safe return.

He has been charged with three counts of murder in the first degree and three counts of tampering with physical evidence, according to court records.

Multiple outlets, citing police sources, have reported the husband confessed, but police have not confirmed or denied such reports.

It was not immediately clear if Chris Watts has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

The body of Shanann was found on Thursday, police said at a press conference, though no cause of death was revealed.

The bodies of the children have not been found, but Colorado Bureau of Investigation director John Camper said at the press conference, “We have strong reason to believe that we know where the bodies of the children are and recovery efforts are in process on that.”

PEOPLE has not been able to reach Shanann’s family, but CBS Denver reported the family said in a statement, “It is with deep hurt, confusion and anger to confirm our beautiful cousin Shanann Watts, her unborn child, and her two angelic daughters, Bella (4), Celeste (3) were viciously murdered by husband Chris Watts; who confessed to the killings. Please keep Shanann’s parents and brother in your prayers.”

Shanann’s family has launched a fundraiser page on Facebook to help with expenses for services.

Time’s Up Raises $21 Million for Legal Defense Fund to Help Victims of Sexual Harassment

The Time’s Up legal defense fund is already helping victims of sexual harassment.

Two months after the Time’s Up movement launched, the National Women’s Legal Center has started matching victims of sexual harassment with a network of lawyers and public relations professionals provided by the legal defense fund.

“Since Jan. 1, we’ve had over 1,600 people seek assistance,” NWLC President and CEO Fatima Goss Graves tells PEOPLE. “That number is continuing to grow, which tells us that the need is great.”

“People have begun to boldly share their stories and now their boldly beginning to seek assistance,” adds Graves.

To date, over 600 attorneys have joined the network.

“Some attorneys take cases pro bono while others will do it at reduced rates,” says Graves. “Everyone who joins this network has agreed to provide a free consultation. We are continuing to build out and recruit additional attorneys.”

The Time’s Up initiative has raised over $ 21 million for the legal defense fund, which helps victims of sexual harassment protect themselves from sexual misconduct and the fallout from reporting it.

“The donations have come from a real range of donors, more than 20,000 people have given to the fund. People have given from every state in the United States and globally,” says Graves.

More than 20,000 people and groups have donated so far, in sums ranging from $ 5 to $ 2 million.

“It’s critical that we keep the momentum up. We have been really successful in raising so much in such a short period of time and driving attention to the cause,” she says. “The need is so great. We aren’t going to stop.”

Movement starters Meryl StreepReese WitherspoonJennifer Aniston and Shonda Rhimes each donated $ 500,000, while Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey chimed in with $ 100,000 each. Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain and Cate Blanchett continued the donations with $ 50,000 each.

To donate to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, which will provide subsidized legal support to women and men in all industries who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace, visit its GoFundMe page. More than 300 prominent actresses and female agents, writers, directors, producers and entertainment executives signed an impassioned open letter that officially announced the movement on New Year’s Day.

“The struggle for women to break in, to rise up the ranks and to simply be heard and acknowledged in male-dominated workplaces must end; time’s up on this impenetrable monopoly,” the letter read in the New York Times.

French Fur Federation Sets Up Help Line for Victims of Antifur Violence

FUR REAL: As the fashion world increasingly turns its back on fur, the French Fur Federation is fighting back with the creation of a dedicated center for providing information on the fur industry called Le Centre National d’Information sur la Fourrure, or CNIF, and even a help line for victims of antifur violence.
In response, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals on Tuesday released a statement declaring that it is “time for compassion.”
“Today, most consumers do not want to wear the skin of animals that have been abused in this way, and for something so unnecessary, considering the number of cruelty-free vegan alternatives that are winning over the fashion world,” said PETA.
“As long as there is clothing made from animal skin in shop windows, PETA, and other associations and activists defending the cause, will continue to defend the interests of the animals that are tortured and slaughtered to make them. We also encourage consumers who are concerned about animal welfare to call for a ban on fur production in France.”
As reported, real fur was thrust under the spotlight during the spring collections season, where antifur protesters made their presence strongly felt. In New York, protesters disrupted a presentation of

How Ben Stiller and Cher Are Helping Hurricane Victims Who Are Still In Desperate Need of Water

Ben Stiller wants to make sure no one forgets that the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands still need help in the wake of the deadly hurricanes that devastated U.S. territories earlier year.

“There is a lot going on in the world and it’s easy for the news coverage to move on to the new thing, but these are our fellow Americans and they are still in need of our help,” the actor says of having his non-profit, The Stiller Foundation, partner with music legend Cher and Icelandic Glacial to donate over 600,000 bottles of water to the thousands of people on the islands who are still without access to running water.

“I am so glad I’m able to help in the way that me and my foundations has been able to but there’s something everyone can do. You don’t have to start big, you can help in even the smallest way and it can make a big difference,” says Stiller. “There’s a lot still to be done — and there will be for long time. We can’t forget about these people who need our support.”

“This tragedy has had a devastating impact on the communities, and water is one of the most basic needs to get everyone back on their feet,” says Jon Olafsson, Chairman and Co-Founder of Icelandic Glacial.

Adds CEO Reza Mirza, “With the assistance of Ben and Cher and the incredible reach of their voices, we hope that our water will not only reach the families in need, but also raise awareness for continued support from around the country.”

Cher first partnered with Icelandic in 2016 to provide clean water to the residents of Flint, Michigan, in the wake of their contaminated water crisis.

Eiffel Tower Goes Dark To Mourn Victims Of Stockholm Attack

At midnight in Paris, the Eiffel Tower went dark to mourn the lives lost during Friday’s suspected terrorist attack in Sweden’s capital.

At least four people were killed and more than a dozen injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd of people at a shopping district in Stockholm.

“Sweden has been attacked,” Prime Minister Stefan told news reporters on Friday. “Everything points to the fact that this is a terrorist attack.”

This is the second time this week the Eiffel Tower has shut off its lights to show respect and solidarity with a country reeling from tragedy. The tower went dark Tuesday in response to an explosion that killed 14 people and injured 50 others in a subway in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo called Friday for the Eiffel Tower’s lights to be switched off earlier than scheduled.

“Horror struck Sweden at its heart today,” Hidalgo tweeted. “All my sympathy goes to the victims and their families.”

The Eiffel Tower’s lights are typically turned off every night at 1 a.m., according to the tower’s website. But sometimes the lights are shut down earlier in recognition of a terrorist attack or to raise awareness of various issues.

When a terrorist rammed pedestrians with his vehicle and stabbed a guard in London last month, Paris shut off the Eiffel Tower’s lights at midnight in honor of those killed. The lights were turned off at 8 p.m. Dec. 14 to call attention to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and in 2015 to mourn the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris.

Preparing Liturgies for Suicide Victims

Preparing Liturgies for Suicide Victims

It is simply a fact that every priest in ministry today is likely to have to preside at the liturgy for a victim of suicide. While they have to deal with churning emotions, they owe it to the suicide victim, the family and the friends, to plan and celebrate a liturgy that will be appropriate and worthy of the occasion, which has some very special characteristics and sensitivities. As well as covering every aspect of the liturgy itself, this book also deals with issues like the connection between the symbolism of baptism and that of Christian funerals, the offertory procession, the choice of music, selecting appropriate readings, and so on. Overall, the book aims to help those involved to be more sensitive to the particular pastoral and liturgical needs of people at the time of a suicide.

Columbine. Isolated Victims, Ignored Signs.: Victims of Intolerance, abuse, bigotry and hate.

1)In a world where hate, bigotry, poverty and false hope abounds, it same as though today our children are compelled to deal with intolerance, hazing, and bullying behind the walls of our schools as if it has become a part of their school’s curriculum. The spectacle of a young individual’s life being snuffed out in the flower of their youth is not only heartbreaking, but it’s also a disadvantage to the world for the fact that that individual was robbed the opportunity to bless the earth with their talents and gifts, in addition to those whose lives they were called to bless. Within the past ten (10) years, stories of unspeakable horrific violence have introduced us to a new meaning of the word, “Heinous”. It’s no doubt sad and mind blowing the way people’s decisions and ignorant action in they ways of living preys on the innocence of others until it is translated into violence. Whether its persecution, rape, molestation, bullying, physical, verbal, mental, and or sexual abuse, racism, hatred, bigotry, and intolerance for reasons unknown to us, these all play major roles in our lives and often rapes and destroys a part of our being and compel the weak to translate an abundance of hurt, pain and hate into what is know to the world as, “School Massacres”. As an outsider with a clear mind and conscience we can easily judge those who had made harsh decisions such as executing massacres and or suicide. However, placing my feet into the shoes of one who once walked the street of depression I can say that most whom had killed others didn’t really wanted to commit the act deep down in their hearts, but when one is consistently beaten, abused, teased, hazed, and having their advantage taken, your mind becomes overwhelmed with revengeful thoughts, and I guest after being ignored help, feeling hopelessly lost, one makes that desperate call to end it all, not because they wanted to die, but because they felt no one cared that they lived. Remembering Victims Of Flight MH17 With Ukrainian Sunflowers

A year after a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine, killing all aboard, a Dutch town is remembering the victims with Ukrainian sunflowers.

Flight MH17 was hit by a missile over eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014, amid fighting between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian government. The plane was destroyed by a Russian surface-to-air missile fired from rebel-controlled territory, according to a Dutch Safety Board investigation

Hilversum, a town near Amsterdam, lost 15 residents in the crash. One year later, Hilversum residents have a new way to remember those who died — with sunflowers grown from seeds gathered near the crash site.

Crash investigators found sunflowers blooming around the twisted wreckage and human remains when they first reached the scene of the disaster, after two weeks of Russian obstruction.

The flowers quickly became a symbol of hope and remembrance. Some laid the blooms in front of the Dutch Embassy in Kiev as a memorial to the victims.

It’s unclear how the sunflower seeds got to Hilversum. Two Australian journalists said they made it their mission to send seeds from the crash site to victims’ families and friends, thinking they could plant them as symbols of remembrance and renewal.

They sent seeds to the father of Quinn Lucas Schansman, who lives in Hilversum. The first news article about Hilversum’s sunflowers says an unnamed American journalist gave an unnamed victim’s father the seeds.

Some of those seeds were nurtured into flowers by the town’s head gardener. Others flourished in the church of the Rev. Julius Dresme, pastor of the St. Vitus Church, where the victims’ funerals were held.

Seeds from those flowers were to have been given away at a memorial service Friday. They will be planted in families’ gardens, as well as the schools and sports clubs they attended.

”It was a really good thought, because the seeds, they become flowers. They have seeds again, and on and on. And you can see, there’s life,” the gardener told RFE/RL.

“There will always be seeds from Ukraine now in Holland,” he said.

The MH17 disaster heightened tensions among Russia, Europe and the U.S., as the as the world blamed Russian President Putin for sponsoring and arming the separatists suspected of bringing down the plane.

Secretary of State John Kerry accused pro-Russian separatists of drunkenly piling up corpses and disturbing the crash site. Rebels initially blocked international investigators from reaching the site.

Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine have all called on the U.N. Security Council to conduct an independent investigation into the crash. Putin has rejected the calls as “premature.”
