Molly Goddard Scoops BFC/British Vogue Designer Fashion Fund

MOLLY’S MARK: Molly Goddard, the designer known for her exaggerated proportions, puffs of tulle and smocked dresses inspired by children’s clothing, has won the 2018 BFC/British Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, an annual prize that comes with 200,000 pounds and mentoring for a 12-month period.
“Molly Goddard is an original, she has a singular vision that has propelled her label to an international level,” said Edward Enninful, editor in chief of British Vogue and chairman of the fund committee. “She is the definition of talent and what Britain does best in our creative industry.”
Goddard, who launched her label in 2014, was competing against David Koma, Huishan Zhang, Le Kilt, Marques’ Almeida and Rejina Pyo. The announcement was made Wednesday night at The Mayfair Hotel in London.
As part of the competition, which was created by the British Fashion Council and Vogue, brands lay out their business plans and collections in front of a judging panel, which this year included Enninful, Caroline Rush, Erdem Moralioglu, Gemma Metheringham, Helen David, Jourdan Dunn, Maria Hatzistefanis, Sarah Manley, Sarah Mower, Paul Price, Topshop and Xia Ding.
The fashion fund is supported by British Vogue, Burberry, Harrods, JD.com, Label/Mix, Paul Smith, Rodial and Topshop. Previous winners include Christopher Kane,

Hillary Clinton, Yara Shahidi Keynote Teen Vogue Summit in L.A.

“Thanks so much for all of your help,” Hillary Rodham Clinton said backstage at the inaugural Teen Vogue Summit on Saturday morning. As she posed for a photo with a large group of police officers at 72 and Sunny’s Playa Vista campus in Los Angeles, Clinton told the photographer, “This is a very important group. Take a good picture.” The former Secretary of State and presidential candidate had just completed the opening keynote conversation with activist and “Black-ish” actress Yara Shahidi.
While the question-and-answer session lasted 40 minutes, it took less than seven for the discussion to shift toward the previous night’s vote on tax reform. “In the last 24 hours, the Senate passed this absolutely horrible tax-cut plan,” Clinton said, as the crowd booed in support of her sentiment. “It’s great for Donald Trump and his family. It’s great for the billionaires who support him, but it’s going to make life much harder for middle-class families and poor families. It even cuts the tax deduction for teachers who buy supplies for their classrooms and their students.”

“Now it takes care of you if you have a private yacht or a private plane,” she continued, “but heaven forbid if you buy some

The Dubai Design and Fashion Council and Vogue Arabia Award Fashion Prizes

DUBAI — The Dubai Design and Fashion Council and Vogue Arabia awarded three designers from the region the Fashion Prize earlier this week, an annual award going to the top talent from the Middle East. The designers represent three different categories: ready-to-wear, fine jewelry and accessories. The winners were chosen by a panel that included designer Reem Acra, Aquazzura creative director Edgardo Osorio, DDFC chief executive officer Jazia Aldanhani and Vogue Arabia editor in chief Manuel Arnaut.
“It’s wonderful to discover such promising new talent in the region,” said Osorio. Accra, who is on the board of the council, said: “The DDFC Vogue Fashion Prize is so important for the region. It empowers the new generation of designers.”
This year’s winners were:
Faissal El-Malak, Ready-to-Wear
Palestinian designer Faissal El-Malak grew up between Montreal and Qatar and studied in Paris before settling in Dubai. His work is rooted in his search for identity. “Both sides of my family are Palestinian refugees,” he said. “My identity was only based on ideas and memories of my grandparents. I didn’t have anything tangible until I discovered traditionally hand embroidered cushions and dresses that my mother had. That was the first time I had something that related to my identity.”

Vogue Fashion’s Night Out in Milan Revises Format

MILAN — Milan’s leg of the Vogue Fashion’s Night Out event is revamping its format for the ninth edition, which will be held Sept. 14. Vogue Italia’s new editor in chief Emanuele Farneti unveiled the new logo and program during a press conference Wednesday at the central Palazzo Morando here.
This year, the initiative will be promoted under the “Vogue for Milano” moniker, introduced to stress the bond between the city and the magazine.
“The project at the core of Vogue Italia is to focus on Italy and [develop] a complete narrative on it, aimed to an international audience,” said Farneti, adding that the magazine’s September issue will be dedicated to such a theme.
Before introducing the calendar of events, Farneti underscored the important role Vogue Italia’s late editor in chief Franca Sozzani had in promoting and enhancing the shopping evening in Italy through the years, making it one of the longest running versions worldwide. In addition, he stressed the importance of developing and increasing the initiative’s cultural offering, including events related to the world of cinema, photography and music.
Partnering with Fashion Film Festival Milano, Vogue Italia will host the “Through My Eyes Episode Two — Women’s View” screening of five fashion films, which

Teen Vogue Is Evolving Thanks To Elaine Welteroth

You may have noticed that Teen Vogue is getting political. At first, this may seem surprising. But to those who have been following the changes at the magazine, it was inevitable. Teen Vogue was recently taken over by a new editor-in-chief committed to making the publication more inclusive and aware of the world we live in. The new E.I.C, Elaine Welteroth, has created an editorial vision that’s expanded and prioritized its coverage of politics, feminism, identity, and activism as it relates to Teen Vogue’s audience.

This has caused a huge shift for the publication. Teen Vogue’s website has increased by 6.5 million unique visitors since last year when the magazine’s leadership pivoted. Welteroth is just the second person of color at a Conde Nasté subsidiary to hold a E.I.C position, and has more than risen to the challenge.

Diversity is a key component of her editorial strategy. Young readers are hungry for content that reflects a broad range of experiences, which is something Welteroth undoubtedly built upon from her time on Teen Vogue’s YouTube page hosting a show called “3 Steps To.

The new E.I.C may be the youngest in Conde Nasté’s history, but she’s proven that “serious” topics like religion, business, and politics should not be reserved strictly for older generations.

Vogue Italia Releases First Issue Under Emanuele Farneti’s Tenure

“We start our new, exciting journey,” wrote Emanuele Farneti in his first letter as Vogue Italia’s editor in chief in the magazine’s March issue, which hits newsstands today [March 14]. This is the first issue under Farneti’s tenure, succeeding the late Franca Sozzani, and in the letter he pays homage to his predecessor. “The work that starts today will be done not in her shadow but in her light, as her son Francesco [Carrozzini] said remembering her,” writes Farneti.
He also thanked the magazine’s vice director Ariela Goggi, who “has been the heart and arms of Vogue Italia for almost three decades, and has lent us her experience in these first weeks. Now she will start a new life, as she has chosen and earned, while we start our new, exciting journey,” confirming her retirement.
According to the newest cover story, Farneti’s creative approach intends to continue in the direction Sozzani gave to the magazine, channeling controversial and unconventional themes and aesthetics. In fact, the cover references the world of e-commerce, re-creating the layout of a web site and showcasing “add to favorites” and “add to cart” buttons. Lensed by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer, model Lulu poses with three outfits, wearing Giorgio Armani embroidered tulle dresses over sweatshirts, including a

Michelle Obama Breaks Hearts With Final Vogue Cover As First Lady

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.

To call Michelle Obama’s first lady farewell tour a roller coaster of emotions would be an understatement. There were the love letters in T Magazine, the relentless, passionate campaigning for Hillary Clinton and the rose gold chainmail Versace gown seen ‘round the world, to name a few.

Now, during a week when we could all use a bit of a pick-me-up, FLOTUS is back to kick us right in the feels all over again.

Looking ethereal in a white Carolina Herrera gown, she is, as usual, the epitome of elegance and grace. Aptly calling her America’s “Mother-in-Chief,” the story followed Obama in the months leading up to Election Day.

Of course now, the story, cover and Obama’s words, which went to print before the election, hold a completely new meaning post-election. Consider the way she describes her role as first lady ― a position that Vogue calls “surprisingly malleable, shaped by the personality, style and interests (or lack thereof) of the person occupying it.”

“I could have spent eight years doing anything, and at some level, it would have been fine,” Obama said. “I could have focused on flowers. I could have focused on decor. I could have focused on entertainment. Because any first lady, rightfully, gets to define her role. There’s no legislative authority; you’re not elected. And that’s a wonderful gift of freedom.”

It is what she did do ― advocate for education, promote healthy lifestyles and become a darling of the fashion industry ― that in part will make saying goodbye so hard to do. We don’t know for sure what kind of first lady her successor will be. All we know is what Michelle has meant to so many people over the past eight years, perfectly summed up to Vogue by President Obama himself.

“Who you see is who she is,” the president said. “The brilliant, funny, generous woman who, for whatever reason, agreed to marry me. I think people gravitate to her because they see themselves in her—a dedicated mom, a good friend, and someone who’s not afraid to poke a little fun at herself from time to time.”

We know it’s better to smile because it happened than cry because it’s over, but we’re going to need a few days to recover from this one.

Michelle Obama Tells Vogue ‘It’s Time’ To Leave The White House

First Lady Michelle Obama’s days in the White House are numbered, and she’s savoring every last moment as she prepares to say goodbye.

“Looking out on the South Lawn and the Washington Monument and it had just rained and the grass was really green and everything popped a little bit more,” she told writer Jonathan Van Meter for Vogue’s December cover story. “It’s soooo beautiful. And for that moment I thought, I’m going to miss waking up to this, having access to this anytime I want.”

Yet she’s ready for the next step, she said.

“On the flip side . . . it’s time. I think our democracy has it exactly right: two terms, eight years. It’s enough. Because it’s important to have one foot in reality when you have access to this kind of power. The nature of living in the White House is isolating. And I think Barack and I—because we’re kind of stubborn—we’ve maintained some normalcy, mostly because of the age of our kids. I go out to dinner with my girlfriends; I go to Sasha’s games; Barack has coached a little basketball with Sasha’s team. But at the same time, when you can’t walk into CVS?”

And while she admits that she doesn’t know what that step will be, she vows to continue fighting on behalf of the issues she cares about.

“I will always be engaged in some way in public service and public life,” she said. “I’ve always felt very alive using my gifts and talents to help other people. I sleep better at night. I’m happier.”

Van Meter spent a month by the first lady’s side, accompanying her to various engagements and speaking to her staffers.

He shows just how revolutionary her tenure has been. She took a “job with no salary, a platform with no power” and loaded it with significance and purpose, he wrote.

“Everything we do is by choice,” she said. “I could have spent eight years doing anything, and at some level, it would have been fine. I could have focused on flowers. I could have focused on decor. I could have focused on entertainment. Because any First Lady, rightfully, gets to define her role. There’s no legislative authority; you’re not elected. And that’s a wonderful gift of freedom.”

She is the perfect mix of substance and insouciance, Van Meter argued.

He highlights her accomplishments in the last eight years ― like Reach Higher and Let Girls Learn, two education initiatives ― as well as her impeccable style and penchant for SoulCycle and carpool karaoke with late-night host James Corden.

Particularly remarkable has been her choice to spend so much time learning from young people.

“It makes us want to live right and do right and be right—Every. Single. Day—so that we don’t ever disappoint these kids and they have something to hold on to, and so that they know—as I say all the time—I can do this. You can do this,” she said.

Taylor Swift Debuts ‘Bleachella’-Blonde Hair to Match Her ‘Rock N’ Roll Chick’ Vogue Cover

When Vogue asked “Who’s that girl?” on a cover featuring Taylor Swift’s shaggy bleached bob, they didn’t know they might set off a chain reaction that led to Taylor actually rocking a bleach-blonde bob the next day. But somewhere, we can bet Anna Wintour is delighted.

Taylor Swift Bleaches Her HairTaylor Swift/Twitter

While unveiling the cover of Vogue‘s May issue on the Today Show Thursday, Wintour said, “I’m thrilled that it’s Taylor Swift, who’s my co-chair this year at the Met Gala …And we very much wanted to give Taylor a new look, make her into a sort of a rock n’ roll chick.”

Mission accomplished! The star, who’s at Coachella to cheer on the third-night headliner (and her love of one year) Calvin Harris, leaned into the current celeb trend of Coachella hair changes (we see you, Hailey Baldwin and Vanessa Hudgens) by showing up in a superblonde shade. And how excited is she about it? So excited that she added a lightning bolt to her Instagram caption.

RELATED VIDEO: Taylor Swift’s Changing Looks!

This isn’t the first time Vogue has bequeathed the superstar a hair change that’s stuck. Tay’s now-famous bangs were the result of a makeover for the mag’s February 2012 issue, where they took her from a country cutie to a hippie chick, and now her transformation from pop star to glamazon is fully complete.

No word on whether her friends cheered her on this time, as they did when she went from long hair to a cropped bob, but knowing Tay, we can’t imagine there wasn’t an element of squad support in there somewhere.

Kim Kardashian Goes Makeup-Free For Vogue España

It’s hard to keep up with all of Kim Kardashian’s magazine covers, but her most recent, for Vogue España, is pretty hard to miss. It’s not every day that we see the queen of selfies sans contouring.

The 34-year-old beauty is makeup-free on the glossy’s August cover. The glowing reality star even looks, dare we say, normal? If it weren’t for that blinding rock, you might mistake North’s mama for a regular old mortal.

Kardashian took to Instagram to share the news, revealing that the entire shoot was done without makeup. “I can’t wait for you to see it!” she captioned the photo.

Here’s to many more makeup-free moments (and magazine covers) for this mommy mogul.

It turns out, however, that is not the case. On the contrary, it’s been a pretty huge week for Kendall Jenner, too. Kris Jenner took to Instagram Wednesday with a sneak peek of her 18-year-old daughter’s spread in the upcoming issue of Vogue Paris, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. Captioned “PARIS VOGUE June/July 2014 Wow @kendalljenner stunning!! Congratulations!! #proudmama,” Jenner is obviously ecstatic over the news. And we have to admit, she looks absolutely gorgeous in the photos.

This has been a whirlwind year for Kendall, who has already walked the runways at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks and starred in her own Vogue US selfie-inspired spread back in February.

James Franco And Seth Rogen Continue Bromance With Photoshopped Vogue Cover

The world’s second most talked about couple, James Franco and Seth Rogen, have photoshopped themselves on to the cover of Vogue, replacing the heads of Kim and Kanye with their own. This follows the pair’s vaguely homophobic “Bound 2” parody: “Bound 3.” Prepare yourselves for a phoned-in satirization of E!’s two-part wedding special.
