Replacing Spacey in the role of J. Paul Getty in the movie is Christopher Plummer, whom Scott has stated was his first pick for the part. With reshoots of key scenes set to begin right away, and the film’s cast and crew — including Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams — all in agreement, this is an unprecedented eleventh hour change up for a film so close to its premiere.

Editors’ Picks: Killer Accessories We’re Buying from Shopbop’s Insanely Awesome Sale Right Now

Fashion girls everywhere (our editors included) are having a hard time focusing on work right now because at this moment, Shopbop is hosting their epic Event of the Season sale and tons of designer items are being marked down. If you’ve been lusting over the pieces in your shopping cart, now’s the time to pull the trigger. From September 27th through September 29th, you can receive 20 percent off orders under $ 500 and 30 percent off orders of $ 500 or more when you use the promo code “EOTS17” at checkout! Our fashion editors have their eyes on the fabulous selection of accessories – including embroidered mules, modern hoop earrings, and pony hair camera bags. If you haven’t started shopping then you better hurry, styles are already starting to sell out – fast!

Keep scrolling to shop our favorite fall accessories before the amazing deal is gone.

Kami Phillips, E-Commerce Editor: These mules are everything for fall. I’m absolutely obsessed with the gorgeous burgundy hue, luxe velvet and floral embroidery – three of the prettiest trends of the season. I’m stealing a styling trick from supermodel Gigi Hadid and rocking them with my favorite pair of cropped vintage denim and a cozy, matching turtleneck.

Buy It! Sam Edelman Aven Mules, $ 96 (orig. $ 120); shopbop.com

Sarah Ball, Fashion Market Editor: I’ve been looking for the perfect everyday fall bag, but one that’s not too boring. This mini camera cross body is perfect! The brown and black color combo make it extremely versatile (I’m not one to be weird about mixing brown and black) and the pony hair and print make it standout, so it feels special.

Buy It! Derek Lam 10 Crosby Mini Spring Camera Bag, $ $ 396 (orig. $ 495); shopbop.com

Colleen Kratofil, Style Writer-Reporter: Every fall I restock my closet with a new pair of black booties. I chose the same heel height from the same brand in the same plain shade but this year, I finally decided to change it up. I didn’t think I needed a pair of embroidered booties, but this ornate jacquard design by Sam Edelman is just as versatile as a standard black boot, they just look lightyears cooler.

Buy It! Sam Edelman “Taye” boots, $ 160; shopbop.com

Kaitlyn Frey, Style & Beauty Assistant: I’ve been dying to get my hands on a pair of over-the-knee boots for over a year now, but have held back on making the splurge since most styles I loved tend to be on the pricey side. But now with Shopbop’s sale I’m finally pulling the trigger and investing in this Sigerson Morrison pair.
Buy It! Sigerson Morrison Karissa Thigh High Boots, $ 521.25 (orig. $ 695); shopbop.com

Alex Apatoff, Deputy Style Director: I hate all my earrings. I need new ones. These ones are cute and in my budget.
Buy It! Cloverpost “Weld” earrings, $ 72.75 (orig. $ 97); shopbop.com

Andrea Lavinthal, Style & Beauty Director: For a person who covers trends for a living, I was embarrassingly late to the mules party. But I finally made it here and now I can’t get enough of backless slides — they just make every outfit look instantly cooler. I like the preppy vibe of this menswear-inspired loafer style, plus the navy hue feels so on-point for fall.

Buy It! Splendid Delory Mules, $ 86.40 (orig. $ 108); shopbop.com

Ina Garten’s New Show Airs This Weekend, And We’re So Freaking Excited

Have you heard angels singing lately? Well, that would make sense because Ina Garten’s new show, “Cook Like a Pro,” is premiering Sunday.

People email me the craziest questions all the time,” Garten told People. “So I thought, ‘Why don’t I answer these on the show?’”

The new program will be dedicated to sharing everyday kitchen tips ― like how to best cut vegetables ― and showing even the most amateur chefs how to make cooking easier.

“If somebody wants to know how you cut cauliflower so it doesn’t get all over the kitchen, well, I turn it over, cut out the core and pull the florets apart,” she said. “I really wanted to do all those little things I’ve learned professionally over the years that will make people feel like they can cook with confidence. It’s recipe-based, but it’s really much more about the tips, which are woven throughout the episode.”

Garten said her new show won’t be like “Barefoot Contessa,” which has run for 24 seasons. But it will feature some special guests, including José Andrés, Mario Batali, April Bloomfield and Yotam Ottolenghi.

There’s no word yet on whether her husband, Jeffrey, will have a prominent role ― but if we know the Barefoot Contessa, he will.

We’ll be waiting with bated breath for the first episode to air on the Food Network this Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

We’re Still Waiting For Jennifer Garner The Movie Star

The role of wife and mother is something Jennifer Garner knows well. It’s one she’s played in her last seven consecutive films, an identity that’s boosted her cultural relevance over the past decade, as her on-screen career has taken a back seat to raising a family … and, err, Ben Affleck

Films like “Juno” and “Miracles of Heaven” showed Garner making the most out of the “wife” character, delivering her best film performances to date, exploring the joys and challenges of motherhood. Similar roles in more forgettable fare (”The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” ”Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” and “Danny Collins”) have fallen by the wayside. And the less said about “Nine Lives” the better.

Those clamoring for a Garner comeback of a different sort won’t find much to celebrate in “Wakefield,” which opens for a wider release on Friday. Based off the short story by E. L. Doctorow, the film finds Garner playing wife and mother yet again, but the typecasting could be easily forgiven if the material was deserving. Director Robin Swicord, who’s made a career out of bringing women’s stories to the big screen, is at the helm of her first film in years. And yet here these identifiers overwhelm fleeting moments of agency, as Garner’s primary function is to service the evolution of a husband who’s, well, kind of an asshole.

“Wakefield” belongs to Bryan Cranston as Howard, a man who essentially ghosts his wife Diana (Garner) and children by going on a faux “Into the Wild” quest to find himself. Except instead of traveling all the way to the Alaskan hinterlands, Howard sets up shop in the attic overlooking his house, as he watches his family cope with his disappearance and presumed death. Apart from a handful of flashbacks where Garner gels well with a more adult, edgier tone, her scenes are mostly silent, taking place behind the attic’s glass window pane and through a pair of binoculars.

There’s a certain boldness in telling this story from the eyes of an unlikable protagonist, especially through the lens of a female director, and no one is better suited than Cranston to humanize an anti-hero. The film stays with Cranston’s character, even in his most arrogant and repulsive moments, as “Wakefield” is a deeply internal piece that strongly evokes its original source material. Exploring everyone’s perverse desire to pull the escape hatch on life is fascinating, but not allowing Garner a moment of respite under Cranston’s unrelenting gaze makes for a frustrating and far less dynamic experience.

In a recent interview with Build Series, Swicord addressed these criticisms, agreeing that the story is the very “definition of the male gaze,” but claiming that the film ultimately subverts this power structure. There is something to be said about Swicord writing and directing a film that unapologetically empathizes with a middle-aged white male in crisis and not his wife. However, if her intention was to provide commentary on the ways men come to view women, she missed a crucial opportunity in the film’s ending to drive her point home.

While Howard lives in self-imposed destitution, dumpster diving for food and communing with the town’s local raccoon population, Diana is left to her own devices. She later strikes up a romance with Dirk (Jason O’Mara), an ex-boyfriend and former work rival of Howard’s. Through flashbacks, it’s revealed that Howard was only initially interested in Diana because of what amounts to a pissing contest between himself and Dirk. It’s disappointing to say the least that Garner’s character so easily volleys back and forth between the two and is none the wiser.

Dirk’s encroachment on Howard’s so-called territory and an almost laughable come-to-Jesus moment during a rainstorm prompt him to return home months after disappearing. Before he walks through the door, however, Howard imagines the various reactions Diana and his family might have. In one scenario, they’re terrified, and in another, they break down crying. But before the audience is allowed to see her genuine reaction ― and a scene where she exists outside of her husband’s viewpoint ― the film cuts to black. The short story ends in a similar fashion, so the adaptation is nothing if not faithful, but the ending feels like a cop-out that unfairly robs the character of any semblance of justice.

Curiously, “Wakefield” was filmed during the nearly one-year period after Garner and then husband Ben Affleck announced their separation. The actor was painted by the media as a philanderer in the midst of a mid-life crisis (see: fake phoenix back tattoo), while Garner held down the fort, shuttling kids back and forth from karate class. That’s why it’s somewhat baffling that given the material’s fascination with a husband’s failings, Garner chose to work on this project before eventually divorcing Affleck this April.

As she raises her three children, the actress is increasingly selective with her film work, especially leading parts that require her to be away from her family for long stretches of time. Maybe Garner has fallen victim to Hollywood’s pernicious stereotyping of women over 40, or maybe she’s had trouble finding roles that work within her constraints. She could be seeking out these roles, as she can relate in one way or another. Or perhaps, she just needs a new agent

The idea of Garner strictly as a wife and mother in her personal life and in her on-screen roles might be the dominant narrative of her celebrity, but she has already proven that she’s more than her megawatt smile, dimples and Capital One commercials. Five seasons on ABC’s “Alias” shot her toward superstardom, and cemented her status as an actress who could kick ass and emote with the best of them. At least, the Golden Globe Awards thought so. And playing a deranged woman who develops an attraction to a priest in the little known short film “Serena” confirmed that Garner could, yes, go dark.

Despite making the most out of the little she’s given in “Wakefield,” you can’t help but walk out of the theater asking: What if?

What if Garner made as many films as Affleck in the last decade? What if “Wakefield” took the time to explore what it’s like to be the one left behind? What if Garner finally found a role that allows her to be the movie star we always thought she could be?

You can be highbrow. You can be lowbrow. But can you ever just be brow? Welcome to Middlebrow, a weekly examination of pop culture. Read more here.

Walt Disney’s Last Words Were ‘Kurt Russell,’ According To Kurt Russell

When it comes to the legend of Walt Disney’s final statement, Kurt Russell has the last word.

Disney Studios has always been a huge part of the actor’s career. He signed a 10-year contract with the studio early on and now Russell is starring as Star-Lord’s dad, Ego, in Disney and Marvel’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Still, his connection to the company goes well beyond business.

As a kid, Russell had a close, personal relationship with Walt Disney. The industry pioneer thought so highly of the young actor that a legend surfaced claiming Disney’s last words were actually “Kurt Russell.”

In fact, it’s more than legend, according to Russell. It’s true.

Disney died in 1966 when Russell was still a teen. The actor says he learned about Disney’s last words a couple of years later.

In a recent interview, Russell told HuffPost, “They pulled me into the office a couple years after he died, and this woman — who I don’t believe it was his secretary, but it might’ve been, I don’t know ― pointed to [something he wrote] and she said, ‘Do you know what that’s about?’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t.’[She said], ‘Because he wrote something after it. But then he went back up and he wrote your name. That was the last thing he wrote.’ And I said, ‘Oh gee. I don’t know what it’s connected to.’”

Was it because Disney considered Russell a friend? Was it for a movie role? Who knows?

Russell said he’s been asked about it for years, but he doesn’t know any more than that. “She was pointing out that that’s the last thing he wrote. That’s the only thing I know.”

The actor said Disney was very important in his life and he learned a “tremendous amount” from him. Russell’s stories are even more unbelievable than learning Disney’s last words.

“We did have a personal relationship. We played Ping-Pong at lunch sometimes. He’d come down to set. We’d go watch movies that the studio was making, and he’d come down and ask if I wanted to go see them. He’d took me around and introduced me to all the different departments at Disney, and at one point gave me a bunch of original photo cells that they make the backdrop drawings of the characters and stuff like that,” said Russell.

“There were many, many things that I connected with him [on],” he continued. “He reminded me a lot of my own grandfather. My grandfather was a creative and sort of inventive man, and they were not dissimilar in their demeanor, too.”

Apparently, Disney even liked to give Russell career advice. The actor’s family has a deep connection to professional baseball; his dad, Bing Russell, ended up owning a minor league baseball team — a “unique” minor league baseball team (which is the subject of the documentary “The Battered Bastards of Baseball”). Kurt played pro baseball himself for a while, too. Disney told him early on that he didn’t think it was for him.

“I was very comfortable around him, and I had a great time with him, great relationship, and it was very important. He said to me, ‘Baseball might not be something that you end up doing as a career.’ He said, ‘I think you might want to look at things in this business because I think your going to have a long career.’ So he did have a strong effect on me,” recalled Russell.

After an injury reportedly slowed his baseball dreams, Russell became an actor again, and Disney’s prediction of a long career came true.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is now set to be one of the biggest box-office successes of the actor’s career, and it’s coming on the heels of another one of the his movies, “Fate of the Furious,” which is soon passing $ 1 billion worldwide

Russell said, “It’s just serendipitous the fact that they’re coming out literally back-to-back, so that’s kind of [an] amazing event.”

Or perhaps it’s just a bit of Disney magic.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hits theaters in May.

Melissa Joan Hart And Ryan Reynolds Were *This* Close To Dating In The ’90s

Long before he was Deadpool or the proud Mr. Blake LivelyRyan Reynolds was a young actor cast as the bad boy love interest of Melissa Joan Hart in the 1996 TV movie “Sabrina The Teenage Witch.”

Here he is tossing a volleyball to Sabrina while rocking some very ‘90s, very bouncy surfer hair:

Though their characters don’t end up together in the movie, there was apparently some real-life magic happening between Hart and Reynolds on set.

“We were smitten and cute,” the 40-year-old actress said on Australia’s “Studio 10 talk show last week. “He was adorable. He was a really nice guy.”

The teenage romance wasn’t meant to be, though.

“I had a boyfriend at the time,” she explained. “[He] probably would have been a great boyfriend. And I didn’t end up with the other guy, so maybe I should have taken a chance!”

“He wasn’t like, the Ryan Reynolds everybody knows these days,” she said. “You can see in the clip the crazy hair. He was sweet — he was very sweet.”

Hart’s recent admission about Reynolds sounds a lot more tame than what she described to E! host Guiliana Rancic in 2014.

As the ‘90s TV queen told it then, the two shared a little makeout sesh after Reynolds bought her a Bulova watch on their last day of shooting.

“I chased him down, got in front of his car and just kissed him and then made out with him all night,” she said. “Then I had to call my boyfriend the next day and explain it.”

Then what happened? Clarissa, explain it all

“[Ryan] came to New York to visit me,” she said.“But I think he wanted something more but I decided I was going to stick with my boyfriend.”

Oh. Well, that was anticlimactic.

Though Reynolds hasn’t commented on the on-set romance, his wife Blake Lively is apparently aware of the kiss.

“She did know, actually,” Hart told People magazine when asked about it last year. “She reached out to me via email to help her with a birthday present for Ryan!”

Hm, maybe a Bulova watch?

TLC Is Rebooting ‘Trading Spaces,’ And We’re Freaking Out

Move over, “Property Brothers” ― “Trading Spaces” is ready to make its return to the world of home renovation TV. That’s right, the beloved TLC show is returning to television in 2018, keeping the age of the reboot alive and well.

Nancy Daniels, TLC general manager, shared the announcement on Tuesday at the Discovery Communications Upfront presentation.

“This is a big one,” Daniels said, according to A.V. Club. “I am excited to announce that TLC’s most successful and most iconic series, ‘Trading Spaces,’ is coming back.”

In a press release, Daniels dubbed the show, which initially ran from 2000 to 2008, “the series that put property on the map.” TLC had nothing new to add when The Huffington Post reached out for comment.

Since details about the reboot and how it will unfold are pretty sparse, we are left with a few questions: Will the families get more than a mere $ 1000 budget for their renos? Will Paige Davis come back to host? (HuffPost reached out to Davis to find out, and will update this post accordingly.) Will Hildi Santo Tomas and her wacky designs ― Sand on the floor! Hay on the walls! Furniture on the ceiling! ― return? And what about Ty Pennington?

Hopefully, we get more information soon. But in the meantime, we suggest you relive the show’s glory days with some of the best “hate it” reveals:

Kim Kardashian Thought Armed Paris Robbers Were Terrorists

NIGHT OF TERROR: Kim Kardashian thought she was being kidnapped by terrorists during the armed robbery in Paris in October in which thieves made off with jewels valued at $ 5 million.
The revelation is contained in a transcript of a hearing of the reality star conducted by a French investigating judge in New York on Feb. 2 and published by French daily Le Monde this weekend.
Kardashian, flanked by her two Parisian lawyers, gave testimony for a full day as part of the ongoing investigation into the armed robbery that took place at the No Address residence in central Paris on the night of Oct. 2 to 3, the paper said.
In the transcript obtained by Le Monde, Kardashian described her emotions upon seeing two intruders dressed in police uniform arrived unannounced in her hotel room at around 3 a.m. with the residence’s night watchman.
“I thought they were terrorists who had come to kidnap me,” she testified. “I remember that I had an indescribable feeling, as if my heart would leave my body, I thought that I was going to die.”
Kardashian had previously given a detailed account of the events of the night to French police, before leaving the country in a private

Couples Were Asked If They’d Have A Threesome. Here’s What They Said

Like anything sex-related, you’ll never know if your partner is into threesomes unless you ask.

In the video above, the team over at WatchCut got the conversation started, asking couples if they’d ever be down to share their partner in bed. Some of the pairs have already done it.

“We don’t do it with people we know,” one boyfriend explains. “No kissing! And no spending the night ― [it’s] a one and done kind of deal.”

Some couples aren’t exactly on the same page.

“My wife is for me; I don’t want to share or be part of somebody else’s fantasy,” one husband says. “I’m just not that into that.”

His wife, on the other hand, seems a bit curious about the possibility.

“I don’t know about now but I probably would have before?” she says. “I don’t know! I’d definitely have to be drunk.”

KKK Members Claim They Were Paid To Fabricate Scenes For A&E Show

Members of the Ku Klux Klan who were participating in a now-canceled documentary series for A&E are claiming producers paid them to fabricate scenes for the show.

The show, “Escaping the KKK: A Documentary Series Exposing Hate in America,” was scheduled to premiere Jan. 10.

A&E canceled the series after learning cash payments were made “to facilitate access” to the film’s subjects by the production company, This Is Just a Test (TIJAT).

The show was initially titled “Generation KKK,” but A&E changed it to make it clear the film is a work of documentary journalism rather than reality-TV entertainment.

However, KKK leaders tell Variety that they each were paid hundreds of dollars in cash a day during filming to participate in fabricated scenes designed to fit a predetermined narrative of tension between Klan members and relatives who wanted to get out.

KKK leaders also say they were presented with scripted scenarios, encouraged not to file taxes on the cash payments, instructed about what to say on camera and directed to re-enact camera shoots until the production team got what it needed.

Multiple sources told Variety the production team even paid for material and equipment to make Nazi swastikas and to construct and burn wooden crosses.

One of the featured subjects, Richard Nichols, the grand dragon of a KKK cell known as the Tennessee White Knights of the Invisible Empire, said producers encouraged him to use the word “n****r” when being interviewed.

“We were betrayed by the producers and A&E,” Nichols said. “It was all made up ― pretty much everything we said and did was fake and because that is what the film people told us to do and say.”

The Huffington Post reached out to TIJAT but has received no response. The company had issued a statement to TheWrap.com.

“We take these allegations very seriously and in partnership with A&E we will be looking into them fully,” the statement said. “We fully expected opposition from hate organizations who wish to disparage this series.

“We have been told that participants in the series have received threats and coerced into speaking out against the authenticity of the show.”

The company also addressed A&E’s decision to cancel the series before the airdate:

“We had many many long conversations about how to tackle this subject matter, and we are proud of the program we made. We feel the backlash over the announcement of this series has led to a shoot the messenger mentality.”

If People Were Honest At New Year’s Eve Parties

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those of us who look forward to New Year’s Eve and those who know the night will inevitably end in disappointment.

If you fall into the latter camp, you’ll appreciate the College Humor video above. In the sketch, guests wander around a house party and say exactly what’s on their mind.

“I had to come to this party because everything I actually wanted to do was way too expensive,” one guest explains to the host as he walks in.

“Also, you’re out of alcohol and it’s only 10 p.m.,” another dude says to her. “Sounds like your problem!”

Yeah, we’re staying home this year.

John Krasinski Wishes More Parents Were Honest About How Hard It Is

John Krasinski knows you can’t totally prepare for parenthood.

In an interview with Today, the actor opened up about what he’s learned raising his two daughters ― Hazel, 2, and Violet, 6 months ― with his wife Emily Blunt.

“You can read all the books you want ― I certainly thought I was prepared because I had such amazing parents growing up,” Krasinski recalled. “I just figured, I’ll just do exactly what they did. And then you realize that moment-to- moment, you don’t know what they did because there is no manual. There’s no exact way to go about things.”

He added, “You’re just trying. There’s no perfection. There’s no school. There’s no defined way to go about it. You’re just learning.”

Krasinski said fatherhood has given him a newfound appreciation for his own parents and their dedication to raising him well. He said having kids has also given him a different perspective on his pre-child life.

“I think the biggest question I have is: what did I do with my life before this?” the actor said. “What did I do with all the time that I had on my hands? I think it’s certainly a full-on job, and something that I enjoy so much, but I really do look back and think, ‘Was I just the dude who ate potato chips and movies all day?’”

Now hat he’s in the throes of parenting, Krasinski said he believes it’s important to be honest about the good, bad and ugly sides of taking care of kids.

“I’m a big fan of being open about the truth and how you really feel, and not putting on a pretty face for everybody,” he explained. “No one really tells you that it’s hard and there are sleepless nights. Kids get sick, kids fall down and get hurt, and all these things are really intense and really emotionally difficult ― and you hurt for them more than you hurt for yourself.”

Krasinski said he appreciated hearing a friend who recently became a parent describe how difficult the journey has been so far.

Said the actor, “I think there’s a sense of relief hearing that it’s hard for other people because you’re all in this fight together.”

Read more about Krasinski’s views on parenting and love for “old lady” baby names on Today.

7 ‘If We’re Not Married By…’ Pacts That Actually Ended In Marriage

In “How I Met Your Mother,” Ted and Robin make an agreement that if they’re still single at 40, they’ll just marry each other.

Spoiler alert: They do eventually end up together (with a whole lot of ups and downs in between). But to our surprise, this kind of thing isn’t just a pop culture trope; it happens in real life too.

Read on for seven stories of real couples who made similar “if we’re not married by…” pacts and actually ended up together. Some didn’t wait until the agreed-upon age, but that doesn’t make their love stories any less sweet.

1. We made the pact as a joke in high school. At 30, we tied the knot.

“Brittany and I were in each other’s lives longer than my memory will go back. We were always good friends, but got really close in middle school and high school. Sometime in high school we started joking that if we were both single at 30, then we would get married. At 24 we started hanging out a lot. By 25 we were in an official relationship. And on our 30th birthday (yes, we share that) we were married. We didn’t force anything because of the pact we made. It all happened as it was supposed to. We celebrated our first ‘birthiversary’ earlier this month, and we are still madly in love!” ― Byron

2. After some heart break, we made the marriage pact in jest. Now we’re 30 and planning a wedding.

“Rey and I met online and became good friends when we were both 23, and since we lived 2000 miles apart, it was only a friendship. After each of us had a few bad relationships and shared mutual heartaches, we jokingly made our pact; If by 30, if we were still single, I’d take the leap of faith, move across country and we would date for a year or two before getting married. We both tried dating others, but by 28, we reconnected through social media. Our friendship grew and when the pact was mentioned again, we both embraced it. I moved to Texas in 2014, and now at 30, we are happily engaged and planning a wedding for the spring of 2018.” ― Heather W.

3. We decided on age 33, but destiny couldn’t wait that long.

“Jason and I met in high school in 1996 (we were 17) and ended up going to senior prom together since neither of us had dates. We decided that we were such good friends that if we weren’t married to other people in 2011 by the time we turned 33 (our birthdays are five days apart) that we’d marry each other. Fast forward to 1997 when we had our first child before getting married on Valentine’s Day in 2000. We were both so scared of finding ‘the one’ so young that we fought it, but fate had plans for us and they couldn’t wait until 2011! We now have two children, 16 years of marriage and are looking forward to old age together. Even when we are angry with each other, we can find a laugh because our friendship is so strong. It’s pretty damn awesome.” ― Dawn-Maia S.

4. We agreed that if we were single at 30, we’d get together. At 34, we were married.

“I first met Burnill in fourth grade and didn’t like him one bit. When we were 13 we met again at a skating rink while I was on a date with his friend and he was on a blind date with my friend. We eventually started spending time together, and we became a couple at 16. We broke up and lost touch for about a year after, and ran into each other again when we were 18. That’s when we made our pact that if we weren’t both married at 30 then we would get married. After this I didn’t see him for about nine years until he found me on Facebook. At the time I was married and had two kids. About six years later, I was single and he contacted me again via Facebook. We got married at 34 and have one beautiful little boy together, along with my two older children.” ― Rae M.

5. We started out as best friends with an “if we’re still single at 30…” agreement. Six months later, we were husband and wife.

“My best friend of 10 years said to me one day in a group conversation that if we weren’t with anyone by the time she was 30 (she was 25 at the time) that we would have to be together. As beautiful as she was/is, I never made a move because I used to date her best friend, so I thought the ‘girl code’ would halt my advances. Sure enough, once she said that, I was like, ‘Hold up, she’s possibly into me?!’ So I made the move! Six months after that conversation, we got married. It was a fairly easy transition. Currently married for three years with two children. I’m loving every moment of it.”― Korderius D.

6. We made the pact in college. Two years later we were married ― long before age 40.

“Sarah and I became best friends after working as EMTs on our college ambulance service. We were never single at the same time, so when I was 20 and she was 22 we made a pact to get married when I was 40 if we were both single. I made it to age 22 before asking her to marry me. Our wedding was in 2013 and it was a ton of fun ― she’s a private pilot and I’m in the Air Force so we had a formation flight before exchanging vows on the taxiway at the small airport where she learned to fly.” ― Ahmed H.

7. We agreed to be each other’s backup spouse if we weren’t married by 30. Just a few years later, we got married.

“I met Sam in 2010 during our freshman year of college. At the time we were both seeing other people, but we became very good friends very quickly mostly because of our mutual interest in self deprecation. Sometime that year we were talking about the inevitability of our current partners giving up on us and decided we should probably have some sort of contingency plan so we didn’t die miserable and alone. We decided if we were both single when we were 30, we would give up on love and resign ourselves to lives of senseless banter. She and I were 18 and 19, respectively. We decided we did actually love each other, so we moved our timetable up a bit and got married in April of 2013.” ― Ethan W.

Jennifer Lawrence Says What We’re All Thinking About Being A Bridesmaid

Jennifer Lawrence is all too familiar with the long hours, demanding schedule and slew of difficult personalities that come along with… being a bridesmaid.

Lawrence stars on Vanity Fair’s Holiday 2016 cover. And inside the mag, she reveals that after four times serving as a bridesmaid, she’s done playing a part in friends’ wedding parties.

“Weddings rock, but I will never be a bridesmaid again,” she said. “There needs to be a bridesmaids’ union. It’s horrendous. If anyone asks me again, I’m going to say, ‘No. That part of my life is over. I appreciate the ask.’”

She feels so strongly about it, she apparently plans to forego picking her own.

“If I do ever get married, I don’t think I will have bridesmaids,” she added. “How can I rank my friends?”

Of course, serving as a bridesmaid can be a meaningful and beautiful experience for any friend. But do it a few times and you’ll realize that Lawrence pretty much hit the nail on the head here.

All those in favor of forming a bridesmaids union, say “I!”

My Friends were Possessed after the Election

2016-11-14-1479083367-5558621-elaine201392.jpg

My colorful, creative collection of friends consists of liberals, conservatives, assorted thespians, some town criers, recovering journalists, and a few agnostics. I enjoy our online conversations, and we usually resolve any issues with a virtual toast of wine and some salacious jokes. But last week, all hell broke loose on social media when anyone commented for or against the results of the national election. Several times, I had to scrape the manure off my eyeballs and go take a shower.

The rancorous election turned some of my funny, positive, middle-aged friends and associates into hate-spewing demons who threatened eternal damnation to anyone with an opposing opinion. Because I’m too old and chubby to fight, I decided to offer some innocuous images that made social media popular: photos of funny animals. Just for extra fun, I added exact quotes from some of the more vitriolic comments. I didn’t include the profane remarks because we’ve all seen them and choose not to see them again.

2016-11-14-1479083431-1484968-electionhorsememe.JPG

The most popular demand was, “Unfriend me now!” I assume the friend had the power to quietly unfriend me, but it was more dramatic to make a statement on the Internet. I think this funny horse doesn’t care, and neither do I.

2016-11-14-1479083514-4077848-electionmonkeymeme.JPG

Sometimes the comments are ugly and intended to hurt. My friend received this retort on Facebook after she dared to post a non-threatening remark. She is a sweet, funny grandmother and couldn’t understand why anyone would be so mean. Bless her heart.

2016-11-14-1479083577-5538919-electionhamstermeme.JPG

Frankly, some of us are getting tired of the unjustified and untrue name-calling. Just look at this cuddly little hamster. She just wants to play and wiggle. Be like that.

2016-11-14-1479083642-7477523-electionbulldogmeme.JPG

Another friend received this “Shame on you!!!!” comment on her Facebook page. She’s the one who received the most exclamation marks of all the retorts because people were blatantly mad about her opinions. This laughing bulldog thinks humans are weird.

2016-11-14-1479083757-2496010-electionzebrameme.JPG

I received a message instructing me not to get smug after I wrote something positive and negative about each candidate. My accused smugness could have been applied to either or neither. It was all too confusing.

2016-11-14-1479083974-9425682-electioncatmeme.JPG

This exaggerated message was sent to my friend, the sweet grandmother. She didn’t know how she could possibly torture anyone, let alone dismantle their family. She decided to delete her post and go back to sharing photographs of flowers and kittens. She wonders how things got so offensive. Her left eye is still twitching.

After the dust settles and we all go back to breathing without exhaling steam, we can tiptoe back onto social media and be midlife friends again. I miss our online chats about empty nests, full schedules, tight budgets, and loose skin. We’ll get more involved in the political process so we can endorse better candidates in the future, and we’ll work together to help instead of hurt each other. I want to laugh again. We can’t allow the animals to have all the fun.

What We’re Buying: Brittany Gibbons Swears by Thinx

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PeopleStyle offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” We love to share our absolute can’t-miss picks in our gallery, What We’re Loving Right Now — and now blogger and author of Fat Girl Walking shares her newfound period savior.

What We're Buying Brittany GibbonsCourtesy Brittany Gibbons

Brittany Gibbons, blogger at Brittany Herself: “I have recently discovered and fallen in love with these Thinx hip hugger period underwear. Not only because their plus friendly sizing goes up to size 3x, or because with every pair I buy, money is donated to female entrepreneurs in Africa, but also because I’m a woman with a busy career and small kids and a packed calendar, and — seriously — we do not talk about making our periods periods easier as much as we should. I have experimented with all sort of menstrual paraphernalia; these hip huggers don’t leak, and they’ve officially replaced my cups and tampons, making my life (especially those 3 to 4 days every month) so much more productive. Not to mention, they are really cute, and I’m not walking around in giant underwear and pads like some sort of social pariah. I feel like a girl, again.”

Victoria Beckham Has a Posh New Makeup Collection with Estée Lauder! We’re Crossing Our Fingers for These Three Products

Victoria Beckham may have taught us everything we know about fashion (rule one: wear pumps with every outfit until you “can’t do” heels anymore), but now, the British designer is delving into the world of beauty with her very own makeup collection for Estée Lauder!

Victoria Beckham launches makeup line with Estee LauderSolve Sundsbo, courtesy of Estée Lauder

Beckham, 41, is already the head of an incredibly successful eponymous fashion label, but that’s not stopping the mom of four from branching into another major market: beauty. The fashion mogul is teaming up with beauty giant Estée Lauder for a limited-edition makeup collection for fall.

“I am thrilled to be launching this limited-edition makeup collection with Estée Lauder,” Beckham said in a statement. “The whole process has been both inspiring and eye opening — from going back and revisiting the Estée Lauder archives through to working on the product with the Estée team, this feels like the perfect makeup partnership for me and my brand.”

She added: “I had long admired Estée Lauder the woman, and the powerful brand that she created, so I am excited to offer both of our customers this makeup range and play a small part in her vision for women.”

RELATED VIDEO: Victoria Beckham’s Changing Looks!

While details on the designer’s exact product line are limited, based on Beckham’s signature beauty look (sultry smoky eye and glossy pale pink lip) as well as her previous predilection for extremely streamlined beauty basics (who could forget her two-shade nail polish line?) here are the three products we hope to see in her first collection:

1. A super-luxe eye shadow palette, filled with both shimmery and matte neutrals for a truly sultry smoky eye.
2. A kohl eyeliner pencil to help smoke out eye shadow and add definition to aforementioned smoky eye looks.
3. A series of lip glosses, ranging in color — from nude to petal pink to brown — for a ’90s-inspired pout.
*Bonus: A contour and highlight palette so we, too, can replicate the designer’s chiseled cheekbones!

“We are excited to join forces and bring Victoria’s take on beauty to her many fans around the world,” said Jane Hertzmark Hudis, an exec for Estée Lauder. “Victoria is an entrepreneur in the true spirit of our founder, Estée Lauder, with a real understanding of what women want and a commitment to making women look and feel their most beautiful. Victoria has a passion for beauty and we are delighted to welcome her into our brand.”

What We’re Buying: Carmen Electra’s Perfect-Skin Solution

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PeopleStyle offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” We love to share our absolute can’t-miss picks in our gallery, What We’re Loving Right Now — as well as the go-to skincare of actress Carmen Electra (who just launched a new scent with FragranceNet).

Carmen Electra, actress, TV host and fragrance entrepreneur: A product I absolutely cannot be without is SkinCeuticals Skin Firming Cream. Growing up, I would spend long summer days in the sun trying to get as tan as possible, not realizing the long-term damage I could possibly be causing. About five years ago, a well-known dermatologist recommended the SkinCeuticals line to me after my first visit. I began using the firming cream religiously, and started to see major changes in my skin. It became much smoother, tighter, and moisturized. I tried many other products in the past, but they usually left my skin way too dry or too oily. I use it on my face every day before I apply makeup, and after I wash my face with SkinCeuticals Purifying Cleanser, which I’m also obsessed with. I highly recommend this cream if you are looking for something to enhance, hydrate, and improve the health and appearance of your skin!
