Melissa McCarthy Just Had the Worst Opening of Her Career

Actress Melissa McCarthy returned to theaters this weekend with her outlandish R-rated puppet comedy The Happytime Murders, although it managed to underperform with just over $ 10 million in third place. The opening is actually the worst of McCarthy’s career, for a movie opening in wide release, and when you take a closer look at the movie’s she’s opened, they often aren’t very consistent. With that in mind, we’re taking a deep dive through McCarthy’s previous films, and how they debuted at the box office.

There are movies McCarthy has appeared in that have opened worse than The Happytime Murders, but these are movies where she only had a minor role, like The Life of David Gale ($ 7.1 million), Drowning Mona ($ 5.8 million), White Oleander ($ 5.6 million) and Go ($ 4.7 million). There are also others which had worse debuts, since they were only given a limited debut such as St. Vincent ($ 109,878 from four theaters), The Nines ($ 23,617 from two theaters) and Pretty Ugly People ($ 2,522 from three theaters). Still, with those movies aside, The Happytime Murders marked a new career low for McCarthy.

Sarah Paulson Hides in a Box After Getting Scared Again on Ellen: ‘Worst Place on Earth’

If Ellen DeGeneres promises not to scare you on TV… don’t believe her.

The latest celebrity to fall victim to DeGeneres’ favorite talk show stunt is Sarah Paulson. While appearing on Ellen Monday to promote the upcoming Ocean’s 8, Paulson was skittish from the moment she sat down. (She was spooked no less than three times during her last appearance on the show.)

“The coast is clear — so far,” said Paulson, 43, after apprehensively checking out the hollow coffee table between the two chairs, which someone typically jumps out of in the middle of interviews to scare guests.

“I did ask for this mirror so I could check behind me at any chance,” she added, joking that she had considered conducting the entire interview facing the other way to make sure no one surprised her from backstage.

And while DeGeneres, 60, vowed she had no plans to scare the American Horror Story star, she couldn’t help but break her promise during a hilarious game of “5 Second Rule,” arranging for a staff member dressed as a clown (one of Paulson’s biggest fears) to jump out of the podium for another priceless fright.

“This is the worst place on earth,” called out Paulson, who promptly sought refuge in the hollow box. “I’m not coming out!”

Ellen airs weekdays (check local listings).

The Absolute Worst Song Ever Is More Terrible Than You Ever Imagined

Here’s yet another reason to hate the media: We’re making you listen to the worst song ever recorded.

This past weekend, a HuffPost writer found a ditty called “Fast Food Song,” which rose to No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart in 2003 for a group called the Fast Food Rockers.

Music is a subjective thing, but we’re pretty certain that no one can listen to this and not realize it’s a recording so terrible that playing it to others without warning might constitute a violation of the Geneva Convention.

The song’s chorus is annoyingly catchy ―“Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut/ Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut/ Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut/ Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut/ McDonald’s, McDonald’s/ Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut.”

We guarantee that anyone who hears it is going to have this earworm stuck in their noggin for the next 24 hours.

Although this song was a pretty big hit in jolly old England, the Fast Food Rockers were never foisted on Americans ― yet another reason to appreciate our British allies.

The British trio (four people if you count “Hot Dog,” a non-singing person in a giant blue dog suit who joins in the video romp) freely admitted to the BBC its music was cheesy. So much so, that the follow-up single was called “Say Cheese!”

We haven’t listened to that one yet. We don’t have the guts. If you’re more daring, here’s the link.

Please forgive us. “Fast Food Song” is the musical equivalent of the Mealbreakers gallery below.

‘SNL’ Just Identified The Worst Kind Of Male Feminist

Saturday Night Live” just exposed the worst kind of liberal: dudes who use activism to pick up chicks.

In a digital short titled “Girl at a Bar,” Cecily Strong gets hit on by a series of men who are eager to talk about feminism. All seems to go well until Strong’s character, who’s wearing a shirt that says “The future is female,” turns each guy down.

Beck Bennett points out that he and Strong are wearing matching shirts, but turns on her when she rejects his offer for a date. “OK, bitch,” Bennett screams. “I wore this shirt and you won’t even let me nut? I followed all the rules!”

Things seem to get better when Kyle Mooney pulls the screaming man away and tells Strong he was just in D.C. for the Women’s March, saying “it was honestly one of the best days of my life.”

But when Strong turns him down too, Mooney unleashes his wrath.

“I freaking marched for you. You won’t get down on this?” he yells while grabbing his crotch.

Even Alex Moffat in a pink pussy hat can’t seem to get it right. He name-drops Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), then presents Strong with a very disgusting offer.

After “SNL” scored its highest ratings in years by picking apart President Donald Trump’s administration, it seems like the show decided it was time to make fun of the left too.

And creepy, fake feminist men are a hilarious start.

The Best and Worst of the Star Wars Special Editions

As far as Star Wars history goes, 2017 is an important year. Not only is it the 40th anniversary of the release of Episode IV: A New Hope in 1977, but also the 20th anniversary of the release of the Special Editions. The original trilogy was rereleased for fans to behold on the big screen once again in 1997, but the Special Editions weren’t the same films that aired two decades earlier. They featured some… tweaks.

If you ever find yourself longing to engage in a passionate debate with a Star Wars fan and are tired asking “Who shot first?” (and we should all be tired of that one), bring up the Special Editions. You’ll likely begin an entertaining discussion about the alterations George Lucas made to his story set in a galaxy far, far away. The revisions range from minor dialogue adjustments to Hutt-sized additions. Which of the Special Edition changes work well and which are egregious? In honor of the 20th anniversary of the theatrical release of the Star Wars: A New Hope re-release on January 31, 1997, here’s look at the best and worst:

WATCH: The Best and Worst Parts of the Supreme Court Marriage Ruling

It’s been less than 50 years since the Stonewall riots and the foundation of the modern LGBT liberation movement. And here we are, with marriage equality newly-recognized from coast to coast. It’s amazing.

But June isn’t just the anniversary of Stonewall. It’s the anniversary of the ruling that overturned the federal marriage ban, and the ruling that ended the criminalization of homosexuality. And it’s close to the anniversary the ruling that for the first time extended equal protection to LGBTs.

All of those cases were written by Justice Anthony Kennedy. And now, he’s given us a decision that establishes the freedom to marry as a fundamental right. Five justices agreed with Kennedy, and four disagreed for various reasons that really do not hold up. Let’s take a look at how Kennedy’s decision works, and then talk about why the dissent is so wrong.

Kennedy’s ruling is based on four ideas: freedom includes the freedom to choose who you marry, marriage is vital for relationships, marriage protects kids and families and marriage is a cornerstone of American society.

Central to Kennedy’s ruling is this:

The nature of injustice is that we may not always see it in our own times. The generations that wrote and ratified the Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment did not presume to know the extent of freedom in all of its dimensions, and so they entrusted to future generations a charter protecting the right of all persons to enjoy liberty as we learn its meaning.

In other words, the Constitution’s set up so that as we become a more enlightened society, we can improve our own laws to reflect that enlightenment.

Ultimately, Kennedy wrote,

Marriage allows two people to find a life that could not be found alone, for a marriage becomes greater than just the two persons. Rising from the most basic human needs, marriage is essential to our most profound hopes and aspirations. The Constitution grants … that right.

Five justices agreed, four didn’t.

Essentially, the dissenters believe that marriage isn’t a fundamental right, or that it is for everyone except same-sex couples, which is very convenient.

Roberts calls marriage bans a “decision to maintain the meaning of marriage that has persisted in every culture throughout human history,” and an “unvarying social institution enduring over all of recorded history.”

Well, that’s just wrong. As we know, marriage has varied a lot. Virtually nothing about marriage has persisted throughout every culture. It is in a state of constant change and, though gradual, improvement.

Thomas has what may be the strangest dissent. He says that human dignity is innate and can’t be granted or taken away by the government. And here’s where he goes with that:

Human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity … because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity…

Did Thomas just mean to defend slavery? Probably not, but he also probably didn’t mean to suggest that banning marriage is similar to slavery and internment.

What he means, is that if you only acknowledge the personal, internal aspect of dignity, then yeah, no one can take that away. But dignity has external qualities as well. Slaves were definitely deprived of something, for example their freedom and very recognition of their humanity. And it seems like some amount of dignity would go along with that.

Roberts, meanwhile, admits that marriage changes, writing “the ‘history of marriage is one of both continuity and change,’ but the core meaning of marriage has endured.”

And there’s the fundamental disagreement. The core meaning of marriage. Is it, as Kennedy says, an embodiment of “the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family”?

Or, is it as Alito says, “the one thing that only an opposite-sex couple can do: procreate.”

I don’t know. Between those two — love fidelity devotion sacrifice and family, or procreate — which sounds more like a wedding vow to you?

Allure Editors’ Worst Hair-Removal Stories

Removing unwanted body hair isn’t exactly our idea of a good time. But when it comes to the whole “beauty is pain” thing, Allure editors have done it all for the sake of beach-ready limbs and Taylor Hill–like brows. Here, a few of our especially memorable hair-removal horror stories.
The latest from allure.com
At my job interview here at allure.com, the editor straight-up asked if I was a beauty girl. Through the haze that shrouds all interview-related memories, I recall all-too-honestly confessing that I was generally too lazy to pull off masterful, salon-level blowouts or ten-step smoky eyes myself. But, I assured her, I was an absolute skin-care nutcase. (It was the first time I could seamlessly bring up my four years as a—top-selling, thank you very much!—sales associate at The Body Shop as a valid credential.) The college job embedded a serious respect for (and deep dependency on) vitamin C, shea butter, grape-seed oil, and other natural ingredients. During the past two years, my already-high skin-care standards have grown even loftier, and my beauty-product dance card has gone from full to overflowing. Here are its MVPs.

You Are Your Own Worst Enemy and You Are Your Own Worst Enemy If You Think That You Are Your Own Worst Enemy

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
~ Hamlet (1.5.167-8)

I have a marketing problem.

I teach conundrums, paradoxes.

I undercover discrepancies, hypocrisies.

I explore aberrations and mysteries of the human mind – phenomena beyond the ken of the cage known as consciousness that coddles us into complacency, lulls us into believing a new normal after every paradigm shift, without us ever knowing it.

And I do this with some really bright, well-educated people.

But I am not a magician or “mentalist.” I am merely a psychotherapist who teaches mindfulness and a little yoga.

The first part of my “Cultivating Meaning and Happiness through Mindfulness and Yoga” workshop is How Your Mind Was Built and What It Was Primarily Designed To Do, which happens to be to protect you from future traumas by creating fears, prejudices, reactions, assumptions, and expectations.

Depending on who you listen to, our minds have 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day.  The vast majority are the same as the thoughts we had yesterday and the day before and most of those thoughts are negative.  Yes, our minds have a negativity bias.

So how do I get really bright, well-educated people to have somatic, visceral experiences that give them insights into the mental and emotional Operating Systems that are running their hard-drives?  How do I get people to release some of those fears, prejudices, reactions, assumptions, and expectations so that they can show up authentically in the present moment?

That was the essentially the question the editor of my next DVD “A Beginner’s Guide to Happiness” asked me when he asked me what the midpoint should be.  I thought about the midpoint of the daylong course that I have taught to thousands of physicians, psychologists, attorneys, nurses, engineers, professors and other extremely erudite people over the past few years.

As I stated above, I have a marketing problem: because if I opened my workshop with, “We are all 100 percent responsible for our thoughts, feelings, and actions and if we allow our minds to run on autopilot we are bound to crash,” half of my students would run from the halls demanding their money back.

But when I spend an hour casually discussing some anomalies of quantum physics, some observations made by Jacques Lacan, Slajov Zizec, John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth and a few other people, then have participants attempt some mental gymnastics like try to imagine infinity, try to think without language, try to change their childhoods, try to shut off the chatter in their heads, try to NOT imagine Barack Obama standing on the White House lawn wearing the United States of America flag as boxer shorts… it slowly dawns on them that “the mind has a mind of its own,” that they are flying on auto-pilot most of the time (fears, prejudices, reactions, assumptions, and expectations influence most of their decisions) and that many the thoughts that rise to consciousness may not be the most useful or interesting or help them get their emotional needs met.

So if you want to explore some of the great mysteries and paradoxes of the human mind, such as why you are your own worst enemy and you are your own worst enemy if you think that you are your own worst enemy, if you want to learn how to take yourself off of autopilot by practicing yoga and mindfulness, and do some fun exercises to learn how to show up authentically and create loving, positive, supportive relationships, then check out one of my upcoming workshops or retreats.

Because there really are more things in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in our philosophies.

Johnny Depp Gives The Worst Advice Ever In New ‘Black Mass’ Trailer

The new “Black Mass” trailer probably isn’t for young, impressionable kids, but for everyone else it’s a pretty great time.

“If nobody sees it, it didn’t happen,” Johnny Depp tells his young son in trailer number two, which premiered during the NBA playoffs on Friday. It’s terrible advice, not only because it’s a young kid receiving it, but also because it’s not true. (Nobody saw “The Lone Ranger,” but that clearly still happened … wait, didn’t it?)

The good news for Depp is he probably doesn’t have to worry about no one seeing this new flick. The movie follows the actor as mob boss Whitey Bulger and has an all-star cast with big names like Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton and Dakota Johnson.

“Black Mass” arrives in theaters September 18.

Granada Defender Fails To Block Goal In Worst Possible Way

Real Madrid trounced Granada CF on Sunday with a final score of 9-1.

But as this Vine painfully illustrates, it wasn’t for a lack of effort, as one Granada defender left it all on the field — and then some — while failing to block the first goal of the game, scored by Gareth Bale:

Following Bale’s game-opening score, Cristiano Ronaldo proceeded to score five goals of his own, three of which he scored in a period of just eight minutes.

Why It’s Time To Pull The Plug On The Worst Awards Show In Hollywood

The Golden Raspberry Awards, now approaching their 35th year of doling out dubious honors to Hollywood’s worst, just leaked their shortlist on the Internet in anticipation of next week’s list of nominees. At a glance, it’s traditional Razzie fare. They’ve identified an actress over 40—Cameron Diaz—to kick while she’s already on her way out the door of an industry that already doesn’t have a place for aging women. They’ve opted not to target the genuinely worst movies of the year, but rather the ones most likely to draw the most Internet attention to their increasingly bitter roast of the entertainment industry. The awards continue to be surrounded by a crass and juvenile air, but what can you expect from a production named after flatulence?

Jerry Seinfeld’s Worst Bomb Ever Sounds Very, Very Uncomfortable

It’s easy to forget that even the most successful of comedians once had to rise their way up through the ranks.

Luckily, Jerry Seinfeld reminds us of this fact in a new web exclusive for “The Tonight Show,” in which he shares the story of his worst standup set ever. Back in 1977, when he was 22, Seinfeld scored a gig at a disco in Queens on New Year’s Eve. Let’s just say it didn’t go well, and there’s little evidence anyone at the venue even knew he was there.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

This may not be the worst “Wheel of Fortune” guess of all time. After all, there was the guy who had every single letter turned and still got the answer wrong.

    But it’s up there.

The category was “song lyrics,” and the board read: “S_RF C_ _Y _ERE WE COME.”

Obvious, right? Well, not to this contestant. Watch the clip and see what he came up with… and then wonder how in the world he came up with it.

“Night of the Clipper”: “In the Aftermath of One of the Nation’s Worst Air Disasters, One Passenger Remains.”

“Night of the Clipper” is a ghostly story of mystery, action, suspense, and even budding romance centered in the small town of Elkton, Maryland. The date is December, 2013, and young Douglas Pledger and his family are newcomers to the neighborhood, after having moved to escape the bustle of the big city, and for his father, Rick Pledger, to begin a new law practice. For Douglas, confused and frustrated over having to leave his former home and friends, what should be a new beginning for this now-lonely ninth grader is just the beginning of strange and mysterious events that, initially, only he experiences. Douglas’ sister Marcy, his father Rick and his mother Rachel become gravely concerned with his sudden change in behavior. It isn’t until Douglas enlists the help of former firefighter, Dave Holt, Dave’s dog Gretchen and Dr. Celeste Creeley from Villanova University that the truth surrounding Douglas’ ghostly encounters becomes clear, after which the only question is, “What now?” Marcy, Rick and Rachel also become deeply involved as answers become known. For Dave Holt, a former fire fighter’s haunted past is awakened as he and Douglas become close friends. For Dave’s faithful dog, Gretchen, her uncanny instincts will help move the action in the most chilling ways as she helps guide the others to important clues. Celeste Creeley will be met with a realization she would never have anticipated before leaving her home in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania, to travel to Elkton at Dave Holt’s invitation as the dynamic background story requires her presence there. Douglas’ sister Marcy, father, Rick, and mother, Rachel, will make a shocking transition from disbelievers to unwilling participants in a bizarre series of events as the action unfolds. Elkton CID detective Ed Neevers is initially on the outside looking in as the actions of the other characters present an entirely different picture, where his law enforcement responsibilities require that he begin to investigate the st

People Who Take Selfies On Instagram While Driving Are The Worst People

Didn’t think anything could be more dangerous than texting while driving?

Now people are filming and taking pictures of themselves on Instagram while they’re driving. And not just a few people: There are over 3 million posts on Instagram tagged with “#driving,” nearly 50,000 with “#drivinghome” over 9,000 tagged “#drivingtowork” and more than 3,500 tagged “#drivingselfie.”

Using cellphones while driving is a huge problem in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 31 percent of drivers in the U.S. between the pages of 18 and 64 reported that they had used their phone for texting or emailing while driving within the past 30 days. 3,331 people were killed in crashes that involved a distracted driver in 2011.

Last week Toyota released an ad warning against taking Instagram photos while driving. The ad shows a photo of a car crash as seen through different Instagram filters and features the phrase “Don’t shoot and drive.” Seriously, though. Don’t.
