Will a Larger Adidas Yeezy Boost Release Hurt the Brand?

Kanye West always wanted this.
Not having royalties and not being able to produce more sneakers were the main reasons he left Nike. And upon signing his deal with Adidas, which started in 2013, he made it clear that he wanted more people to have access to his sneakers. Today he’s making good on that promise with the release of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 in an all-white colorway that retails for $ 220. Customers will only be able to purchase the sneakers directly through adidas.com and the Yeezy Supply web site. They are reportedly releasing 1 million pairs of shoes.
West’s influence, along with scarcity, is what has bolstered the Yeezy footwear line. But what happens when a Yeezy Boost style becomes even more ubiquitous? Will it have the same trajectory as the Jordan brand, which lost market share and cache due to overproduction. WWD spoke with people in the sneaker industry to see if the release will hurt or help the brand.
Matt Cohen, vice president of business strategy and development at Goat, a sneaker resale app
WWD: What do you think of this release?
Matt Cohen: This is an interesting release because we’ve never seen something like this. For one, it’s a restock,

Kanye West Holds Yeezy 5 Show in the Dark

The anticipation for Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 show is riding high among fashion week-goers. The show, which is taking place at Pier 59 (way more convenient than last season’s Roosevelt Island venue), had scores of fans and paparazzi waiting out front. And while it took team WWD 30 minutes to get through four different security checkpoints, all seems calmer and more organized than West’s September show, which saw the likes of fainting models and peeved guests.

Upon getting through the checkpoints, guests such as Emmanuelle Alt, Maria Duenas Jacobs and Jim Nelson were ushered through to the pitch black venue. Guests used their iPhones to help guide the way.

Kanye West Doesn’t Want You To See Yeezy Season 5, But Here It Is Anyway

Anyone who has waited to see the inevitable debauchery of Kanye West’s Yeezy fashion show this year was probably disappointed. Just moments before show time, it was announced that that there would be no live stream of the event.

To add insult to monochromatic injury, not only was there no live stream, but attendees were informed there were also no photos or videos permitted during the show. Press was even apparently removed from the venue before the show started.

Still, content creators will be content creators, and there was plenty of imagery on social media and around the internet for us to see. Herewith, the imagery and videos Kanye West does not want you to see from Yeezy Season 5.

There was camo:

There were impossibly high snakeskin boots:

For what it’s worth, there seemed to be a consensus among attendees, including the New York Times’ Vanessa Friedman, that Season 5 was West’s most efficiently executed:

As for Mrs. West, she wore an entirely eggplant look complete with a sheer top to sit next to Wintour in the front row, natch.

NFL Finally Approves of Yeezy Cleats

FINE FREE: Yeezy Cleats have made another on-field NFL appearance.
Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller launched the Triple Black style over the weekend and shortly after that, Adidas announced on its Instagram account that the black colorway would be sold to the public at some point.
On Monday, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also wore the model, but in a beige colorway.
Previously players including Houston Texans’ wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson and Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Sammy Watkins wore the 350 version of the cleats and were fined up to $ 6,000 by the NFL. According to the league, cleats must have a solid base layer – the 350s are cream and black with a marbled effect.
While Kanye West has stirred up excitement and money with his more athletic and performance styles, his women’s footwear is still a work in progress.
During his Yeezy Season 4 show in September, West opted for thigh-high stiletto boots that models couldn’t walk in and Adidas disassociated itself from the line, stating, “These particular boots are actually not a part of the Adidas collaboration.”
West’s spokesman underscored to WWD that Adidas has never produced Yeezy heeled shoe designs and the shoe construction will be addressed in the

Kanye’s New Hit: Yeezy Season 1 Collection Sells Out at Retail

He might agitate editors with his packed-to-the-brim shows that disrupt the fashion week schedule, but consumers and retailers are buying into Kanye West. That was made clear on Thursday with the release of the musician’s Yeezy Season 1 collection, which was unveiled in February during New York Fashion Week and subsequently picked up by over 30 retailers in the U.S.
Tom Kalenderian, executive vice president and general merchandise manager of men’s and Chelsea Passage at Barneys New York, said lines formed outside of the company’s Madison Avenue flagship store on Thursday morning. Customers had to secure a wristband on Wednesday night to shop the collection. It was carried at 16 Barneys’ locations and released on its e-commerce site at 10 a.m. Thursday.
According to Kalenderian, the black 950 Boot, an elevated take on a duck boot that retails for $ 585, sold out first. Barneys will release a new colorway for the 350 Boost sneaker on Nov. 14.
On the apparel front, Kalenderian said Barneys picked up 18 styles from the collection and that the bouclé sweater, which retails for $ 1,690, was a bestseller.
